The Best Korean Restaurants and Food Carts in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Doyaji reinterprets classic Korean barbecue into something that can be served out of a compact food cart. Instead of atop a charcoal grill, barbecue here is served in bowls, like seared pork belly over purple rice and kimchi, or pork belly glazed with a spicy, earthy gochujang sauce served over purple rice with green onion salad and pickled daikon. Doyaji also serves its bowls with regular and spicy Korean fried chicken, as well as vegan fried tofu." - Rebecca Roland

Had a lunch at this food cart spot. This Korean food cart is 100% the best. Second time here and never disappointed. Took Garlic crispy chicken with purple rice and sides, corn cheese, cucumber salad. Everything was so yummy and fresh, chicken was juicy and crispy.

A food truck has no business being this tasty, let alone the huge portions of pork belly. The GRILLED kimchi was also an amazing surprise - deadass awoke a sense memory of when my mom threw it on the tabletop grill at home when i was a kid. Wish I had more stars to give, eat with confidence! -authentic Korean person

Got the hot honey fried chicken bowl. Sooo good! Will order extra sauce for dipping as well. Batter isn't too thick and chicken is juicy. Will definitely be back

Google
Incredible. Hard to say much else. Culinary magic here. Hot honey fried chicken to die for. Plus that cheese corn off the cob… bliss!!! 10/10 for food and vibe. 🤙

Google
Excellent korean bbq cart located at Core food truck hub on 82nd near Powell (east side near 205). Small menu specialized in korean fried chicken and pork belly "bowls"(see pic) in a generous and beautiful portion. Sides are awesome heukmi bap (black and white rice but looks purple), perfect pickled cubed daikon radish, a green onion salad that is similar to seaweed salad but blows away the costco premade stuff most places use, and a kimchi that is mild on heat, garlic, and ginger but still great. My lady and I got both chicken offerings, hot honey for me, and plum garlic for her. Hot honey has some intimidating looking sliced peppers but is actually a very tolerable heat level, and outdid chicken dishes at local dine in restaurants at much higher prices. This may well be the best fried chicken of any kind ive ever eaten. I cannot overstate how delicious this is. The menu is small because they are experts at what they make. The price is better than any dine-in kbbq restaurant, the quality and speed is great, and the Core venue has a fully indoor dining court, and a great bar adjacent to both indoor and abundant outdoor tables for hard and soft drinks. Dessert carts, and many other cuisines around for picky parties there too! The carts being outside means lightning fast takeout if desired too.

Think I need to retry this. I don't think I have my order dialed in. The kimchi was a little too salty for me. Spicy pork belly ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ Plum garlic chicken ⭐⭐⭐ - just ok, didn't love how salty the sauce was

Google
Wow! My first time trying this place and I got tofu and my bf got fried chicken. Deeelicous! Their fried tofu is my new favorite. I haven't had it that way before. The breading is similar to crispy fried chicken with a tasty soft tofu center. Yum

Google
Fell in love with their fried chicken at the Portland night market. Best fried chicken I've had. Had it 2 more times and it's not the same. The pieces are too big. What was once but sized is now like 3 bites. Completely changes the experience. But they're still good and pairs well with their ranch. The shrimp burger is decent. Definitely a work in progress. Had it twice and it needs some more flavor. Maybe a thinner patty. Taking a bite just tastes like a mouth full of shrimp. The burger isn't good. GF and I agreed it was bland. Bun soggy. The new location sucks though. I know the truck has mechanical issues. But the new area is a major downgrade. I love Doyaji. When I say the fried chicken I was served at the night market was the best I've had. I absolutely mean that. I'm excited to see them keep getting better.

Yelp
I've heard a lot about this food cart. I was really excited to try their food since I've had their kimchi before. Their kimchi is delicious. I tried their spicy pork belly which comes with purple rice, pork fried kimchi, green onion salad, pickled radish and grilled onions. The spicy pork belly has a nice gochujang glaze on it, good amount of spice but was a bit salty for me. The pickled radish and the green onion salad did help cut the saltiness. Definitely having a drink with it helps. There's a good amount of pork belly, lots of flavor. I liked the grilled onions, and rice was good. You really feel like you're eating kbbq here, except it's on a personal portion size. I'll be back to try their fried chicken.

Yelp
This was my first experience at Doyaji. Easy to order online to pick up our food. The space is clean with some tables to sit at. The truck itself looks great and staff were friendly and helpful. We ordered the plumb garlic chicken, Gochujang hot chicken and the pork belly. The food came out a little after the time I had requested but they were pretty busy. I was handed the bag holding the boxes and I thought "this has weight to it", I got home and unloaded. This was a lot of food! Leftovers are my friend so no problem here, as long as the foods good. It was! The sauces were great and I appreciate being able to add as much heat or sweetness that I wanted on the chicken. The chicken was crunchy on the outside and tender juicy chicken on the inside. The pork belly was pretty good but I would stick to the chicken next time.

Yelp
The service was so off-putting. The server acted annoyed after I got has attention from his tablet so I could order. This continued once I picked up my order, the second person in the truck was a bit more helpful, but not by much. The food was as good as people say, but it's not worth going back to a place that didn't seem to welcome my spending there.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to experience Doyaji while attending a Harvest Kickoff Party at Cho Wines in Hillsboro. Service was fast & friendly and the atmosphere was vibrant. And wow, the food is incredible! I had the pork belly bbq bowl which included: pork, griddled onions, purple rice, pickled daikon and kimchi. The pork was tender, super flavorful and perfectly cooked and the griddled onions really set it off. And their kimchi, omg, it was the best kimchi I've had in a while!

Yelp
Holy spicy chicken Batman! This place was delicious. I decided on the sweet honey spicy fried chicken bowl, and wow! First, there was tons of food, so much I was able to share with my husband and still have food leftover. Second, the fried chicken was crispy, sweet, spicy, and moist, it literally could not have been better. The purple sticky rice was good, and the surprise was the green onion salad, which is tangy and light, and went with everything. Classic kimchi rounded everything off. Service was great, they were friendly and quick, and they were outside Living Haus brewery at the time with gave made the environment great!

Yelp
Delicious!! I love me some pork belly and kimchi, and Doyaji does it well. At first I thought the price point was slightly high, but then I saw the box... it was stuffed full of food and you get a ton of pork belly, not just filler. The kimchi was amazing! I don't know if they make their own, but if they do, I'd buy it! They also had two specials, and my partner wanted to try them both. The first was a honey mustard fried chicken thing. It came with kimchi and purple rice too. It was good but not my favorite of the bunch. The other was a bulgogi burger, and it was fabulous! So full of flavor! I hope this special comes around again because it was delicious. Friendly service. We didn't wait too long either.

Yelp
Doyaji comes Korean mom and dad approved. They're LEGIT and so worth it. The first time I had it, I had just moved to Portland and didn't know what's what. My parents were in town and I wanted to take them to a few Korean spots because you know Korean parents can't go long without their kimchi and rice. We checked out a few brick and mortars but I was surprised to hear that my mom liked Doyaji the best! Maybe it was also because the chef looks like he could be their kid and she just loves supporting young entrepreneurs being one herself. Oh! And also a fave spot for the @thekoreanmama (local pdx Korean mom and son food influencers)! What can I say? The food was really good. On that first visit, we got the pork belly and the plum garlic fried chicken. Pork was grilled to perfection and loved all the sides that come with it. And the fried chicken was so juicy and flavored just right. We were also tickled by the sweet rice cake dessert and my parents praised their creativity for their take on it. The only thing my parents didn't like was the location at Holy Ghost because they didn't like the pervasive smell of alcohol and loud music but what can you do ‍ it was fine for me! Ok but you guys. What you need to do is follow them on IG and track what their specials are because it's the specials for me. Recently they had a shrimp burger and a bulgogi burger on the menu and omg I was only able to try the shrimp burger but it was SO GOOD no exaggeration. I've had many a shrimp burgers in my life but never one with such a thick and juicy shrimp patty. It was seriously the best $13 I've spent since moving here. I went there alone and as I was eating it I just kept murmuring to myself how good it was. I chatted up the group next to me who were eating the bulgogi burger and they said it was really good too. I told them shrimp burger is where it's at though and one of them promptly went and ordered one it was so good I actually walked up to the window and begged them to please keep bringing it back. If I wanted to be extra, I might bring a slice of American cheese with me to add bc that's just how I like it (don't judge me!). After this transcendent experience, I told anyone who would listen about this shrimp burger. Please bring it back!!! Also, like some of the other yelpers have noted, order online right when their menu opens and pick up. I just went right at opening but still had to wait half an hour bc they were flooded with online orders. Love you, Doyaji!

Yelp
Maybe they were busy but it took about 25 minutes to get our order. Slightly over-fried, green onion salad would be better served to the side instead on top of the chicken which sogged the breading. Fresh radish kimchi. Really the downer was how small the portion was for the price.

Yelp
Great fried chicken because I loved it, authentic kimchi because I hated it. If you like kimchi, you want to get in here and have this. And no matter what else, order the chicken. Boneless thighs, fried southern style. It was moist, crispy, and delicious. It's a food truck so wherever they are is a good place to be, and the space looked great. The service was perfect, polite nice, friendly and quick. Good eats sold here.

Yelp
Doyaji has EASILY been one of my top 3 favorite food trucks/carts. Feel so very lucky to have this in the weekly rotation of trucks to visit my office, so anytime they come by (which is not super often), I will always get it. Always be sure to line up early for lunch because they will sell out FAST. The menu is short but sweet. Opting for quality over quantity, which works entirely in their favor. Without a doubt, my favorite is the spicy pork belly. For being their most spendy option, they deliver a full meal... heck, likely even two meals. Juicy, tender, bursting with flavor. It is heaven in a to-go container.

Yelp
Incredible food! The first bite of the shrimp burger brought actual tears to my eyes. The flavor on both burgers was insane. Will certainly go back to try more and get these specials. I ordered ahead, right when they opened at 12. I had about a 20min drive and the order ready notification popped up while I was waiting in line to get my food, so it was perfect timing. Most people in line ordered ahead and were just picking up so the line moved quickly. The people working were very friendly, all while hustling to turn food out. There is street parking and a handful of tables to sit at if you would like to eat there.

Yelp
Tried the food here at the Portland Night Market. We got the Gochujang Hot Honey Korean Fried Chicken, and it was delicious. The chicken was juicy, and it was very flavorful. I loved that it came with jalapeños and shishito peppers. Delicious! Would eat here again

Yelp
The food at this joint is delicious AND legit! Service is top notch, always attentive and friendly. And I personally enjoyed the location, because you get that food truck feeling. Great foodie experience!

Yelp
A lil underwhelming, the portion size of the korean fried chicken seemed a lil skimpy although this food cart was at a very busy spot (Portland Night Market) The service was great and the food did not take too long but I can't say it was good enough for us to crave and come back to again. The breading of the chicken was katsu chicken like-- the sauce made it much better however we weren't too impressed with the kimchee

Yelp
Finally got to try Doyaji at the Portland Night Market, and it was stunninggg. The best fried chicken I've had in a long time - they were super crispy, juicy, and flavorful plus I loved the pickled radish. For dessert I got this sweet potato egg roll and it was so fluffy and milky, I could eat a million of these. I only wish they had rice today but everything was still stunning. Can't wait to eat here again.

Yelp
This is my favorite food cart in Pdx!! It is so incredibly consistent and delicious. We come here weekly or every other week to satisfy our craving for the delicious hot honey chicken and pork belly plates If you haven't eaten here and you love tasty food you're missing out!! Tried their drink specials today - cold brew cola and yuzu plum soda and both went great with our meals. We will be back again and again!

Yelp
What a find, a Korean bbq food truck in PDX!!! I'm Korean and I can say the food was authentic and I really enjoyed the spicy pork belly, especially the grilled kimchi that came with it! No hassle of having to cook the meat yourself like at a traditional Korean bbq restaurant hence their tagline, Korean bbq simplified! Portions were generous and the service was very friendly! I follow them on IG now, they offer special menu items from time to time so I am excited to try the next new thing!

Yelp
I found Doyaji one night at Holy Ghost bar and tried it on a whim. I'm so glad I did! I tried the gochujang hot honey fried chicken and the bulgolgi burger. Both were SO good. I loved the crispiness and crunch of the chicken and juicy inside. It wasn't too spicy, but balanced perfectly with the sweetness from the honey. The bulgolgi burger was sweeter than your normal beef patty, but I love it, especially with the savory melty cheese and fresh lettuce.

Yelp
I think Doyaji might make the best fried tofu I've ever had, and I've been a vegetarian for over 25 years so I've eaten a lot of fried tofu! :D This place is well worth the 30 minute drive it takes to me get here. The purple rice is excellent, the pickled radish, the kimchi, it's all so delicious! And the owners are super nice. My favorite food cart in PDX!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Genuinely some of the kindest people! I'm not even vegetarian and the Tofu bowl is my favorite :) great flavor and texture

Dave L.

Yelp
Everyone, and I mean everyone.....do yourself a favor and go take your hungry body over to Sellwood and find this truck!! Number 1, the truck is super cool with the bright amazing PINK snout and if that is not enough, the food is beyond AMAZING! Not just super good but.....did I say AMAZING! There is something for everyone and ALL the food they make is so good and delicious! If you are fortunate enough to indulge in ANY of their specials.....consider yourself super lucky! I have not had them all but I will say, the BULGOGI burger is off the charts! Get off the couch, make sure you are hungry and make your way over to Doyaji....you will not regret it....I promise you!!

Yelp
Got to visit this food cart at the Portland night market. First of all there customer service was great! There wasn't too much of a long wait for food especially since most of the other carts at the market was about 30 minutes plus. The food portion sizes are a bit smaller than I expected and the kimchi was too salty. Provided feedback to the owners about the kimchi hopefully they will fix because the food experience was good outside of that.

Rita O.

Yelp
I got the fried tofu bowl with a side of kimchi. Everything was delicious. Everything was so perfectly seasoned and cooked. Definitely one of the best things I've had lately. So balanced! I'm not vegetarian but they did let me know the kimchi isn't vegetarian. This would be my go to kimchi if they sold it at the grocery store.

Yelp
solid Korean cart! appreciate the vegan options, chicken fried tofu was very tasty ( : if i had one ask it would be make vegan kimchee! i didn't think to ask for it spicy so will want to do so next time if that's an option. nice folks, cart looked cared for and clean. recommended~

V S.

Yelp
This food cart serves great Korean fusion food to go. You can eat inside Montgomery Park; there are tables and chairs on the second floor (open atrium, take the escalator). I had the buttermilk chicken fried tofu; my lunch partner had the pork belly. Both were served with purple rice, broccolini with a tangy dressing, jicama, and a sliced onion salad (?). I also had a soy-marinated egg. We'll go again.

Yelp
If you're on the hunt for a delicious mobile feast, look no further than this gem. I ordered the grilled pork belly and I couldn't have imagined it tasting any better than it did, it's clear that this hip and friendly couple pour so much love and experience into every dish. There's umami, acidity, sweetness, juicy tenderness and a mix of textures that'll tickle your tongue into wanting more, and with such a generous portion you'll be sure to get every bite you want. Excellent value, mouth watering meals, an instant Portland favorite for me and wife. Seriously, if you haven't tried this food, you're missing out on something truly special. #followthesnout

Yelp
I visited Doyaji when they did a pop up near my place, not really knowing what to expect. This is without a doubt the best Korean BBQ in Portland. The pork belly cut was the perfect thickness with so much flavor. The pork fat kimchi, daikon and green onions were equally packed with flavor. Haven't stopped thinking about since I had it. I will follow this cart as long they're still running. Your food is inspiring.
