中山陵 - the final resting place of Sun Yat Sen. Born in Guangdong, lived and passed away in Beijing but buried in Nanjing as per his wishes. “吾死之后,可葬于南京紫金山麓,因南京为临时政府成立之地,所以不可忘辛亥革命也。”
Again a long walk before you reach the main steps leading to the tomb at the top. 299 steps from bottom to top but in total, 392 steps from the entrance to where he's laid to rest. This place is also known for its unique design such that from bottom up, you only see the steps but not the platform, but when you reach the top and look down, you only see the platforms but not the steps.
On one of the platforms, you'll find 2 bronze structures 铜鼎, presented by Shanghai Provincial Government in 1929 and the one on the left has 2 holes caused by Japanese bombing during the war in 1937. They've left it as it is, to remind all of the atrocities of war, and interestingly, you'll find people dropping coins and cash in it. On 2 of the arches along the way, you'll also find his ideals - 博爱 (universal love) and 天下为公 (the world belongs to the people).
It was super legs day climbing up to the top, only to be disappointed that his tomb wasn't open for public viewing. The furthest point we could access was the 祭堂, used for ceremonial purposes.
