Drifters is a cozy little spot tucked away in Chatham, and I'm so glad we gave it a try for dinner on a Friday night.
When we arrived, the place was a bit busy, and it wasn't immediately clear whether we should seat ourselves--there was no sign or host at the entrance, which made for a slightly confusing start. But once we got past that minor hiccup, everything else was fantastic.
Our waiter was a total home run--friendly, conversational, and made us feel completely welcome from the get-go. He gave great recommendations, too.
We started with drinks, one of which was a carrot cocktail--yes, carrot--and it absolutely knocked my socks off. I never imagined I'd enjoy carrot in a drink, but here I am, still thinking about it now that I'm back home. So unique and surprisingly delicious.
I also had their award-winning clam chowder, and after sampling four different chowders in the area during our trip, this one easily took the top spot for me--rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced.
We kept it simple for entrées: a Caesar salad and a burger. Both were excellent. The Caesar came with whole romaine leaves instead of being chopped, which was a cool and unexpected touch. The burger? Cooked medium rare, just as ordered, and seasoned to perfection.
Since we visit the Cape often, I'm already looking forward to coming back to Drifters. Next time, I'm showing up hungrier so I can try more of their menu. This place is a gem.
