Best Restaurants on Cape Cod, Massachusetts | Eater Boston

"Drifters in Chatham was opened several years ago by two friends, one of whom is a South Chatham native, who met while bartending in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The menu revolves around local coastal cuisine, small wine producers, and a serious cocktail program. Dishes include Dennis oysters, flank steak chimichurri, orecchiette bolognese with whipped ricotta and fried sage, two excellent burgers, and even a BLT. There is only one dessert on the menu — house-made donuts with cinnamon sugar — and it’s not to be missed. Pickle lovers: order the spicy pickleback, a bourbon and spicy pickle juice shooter." - Anna Darrow

My husband and I had a great meal here our first night visiting the area. The white bean dip was one of the best I’ve had and the kimchi fritters were really good! We were both pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste of everything. We would love to go back and enjoy drinks and apps again.

Restaurant has a very cozy atmosphere but is extremely loud with all the customers talking in such a small area, making it hard to hear family. The server was very nice, but either because they were understaffed for the amount of people there or some other reason, we were left waiting for our check and service for a long while. My family enjoyed their meals, although the chowder was very strange. It seemed to be a mix of cheddar soup and clam chowder (very salty in my opinion). I personally could not eat more then a few bites of my flank steak which left me feeling a touch ill. The steak was very salty, the broccoli robe was a touch bland, and the potatoes were inedible from the shear amount of salt and garlic piled on them (it looked as if you put ten minced garlic cloves onto eight potatoes). Which is a shame cause the plate looked beautiful and the potatoes, at first, looked divine. Hopefully this was a one time error on the kitchen, but I dont see myself going back with all the other wonderful restaurants around.

Google
We're staying in South Chatham and were searching for a good, casual restaurant. Read the reviews and thought we'd try Drifters. My wife ordered fish and chips and enjoyed it. I ordered the Jayne burger with fries, medium, and it was cooked as I preferred - unfortunately, it and the fries were cool to the touch and the bottom part of the bun was soggy soft - the restaurant wasn't all that busy but, apparently, our food sat out for awhile before it was served. We weren't overly impressed this time, but we'd try it again sometime..

Google
Visiting the Cape from West Coast and tried Drifters. Simply put, this is a great place. Pre-dinner drinks in bar were top notch. Menu has typical dishes with unique and high end twist. Fresh oysters and short rib pasta were so delicious. Highly recommend.

Google
YOU MUST TRY THIS PLACE!! Hands down best restaurants we visited on vacation. Every dish we ordered was delicious and made to perfection. The most delicious espresso martini I have ever had in my life. Chris you are wickedly talented! We will be back again🤩

Google
love the vibe and atmosphere. service is friendly, food is so good - crab bites, yum! white bean dip, incredibly garlicky and delicious with all the warm pita and crunchy chickpeas. will be going back to try more menu items

Google
The duck toast is a MUST! Very delicious. I had the diver scallop entree and although the scallops were cooked perfectly they were a bit small. The cocktails are delicious. I would definitely come again.

Google
Absolutely fantastic experience at Drifters in Chatham! The moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The decor is charming, blending coastal vibes with a cozy, laid-back feel. The food was incredible – fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. From the seafood dishes to the cocktails, every bite and sip was a delight. The staff was attentive and friendly, offering great recommendations and ensuring we had everything we needed. Whether you're a local or just visiting, Drifters is a must-visit spot in Chatham. Can’t wait to return! Five stars all the way!

Yelp
Thought we were SOL trying to grab dinner at 9:30 in Chatham. Mac's was closed ; Wayside closed; Carmines and Keme n Kone shut. Drifters served until 10:30 so that was the move. Great food. Great service. white bean dip was lit. I got a pasta dish that was cooked perfectly. Recommend trying that. Burgers looked good. The wife crushed some clam chowder which was pretty solid.

Yelp
A simple space with a bar, high tops, a good vibe, friendly bartender. I was at this place when it was two previous restaurants, so interesting to see its latest redo. Say yes to the Jayne burger if you need a burger. Great looking cocktail menu but I just needed a Manhattan. Perfectly made. Met nice people at the bar including a fellow hiking enthusiast and a mother and daughter. They are excited to be having daughter's rehearsal dinner at Drifters later this summer. I get it!

Yelp
Everything about this place is great, Pre-dinner cocktails in bar were top notch. Menu includes typical dishes at reasonable prices with a unique and high-end twist. I had the fresh oysters and short rib pasta. Delicious.

Yelp
You feel very welcomed coming to Drifters. Everyone is so openly friendly. You feel like you are visiting a friend. I started with a Manhattan that was delicious and served in a perfect old fashion glass. My husband started with the clam chowder which was not your traditional thick and gooey broth. This was thin with plenty of cream but had an amazing flavor of clams and possibly sherry. A+. It also had finely chopped fresh vegetables. I had the quinoa and farro dish loaded with roasted vegetables and herbs finished with a cream sauce. Excellent. I liked that it was different from most cape cod restaurants and the focus was on fresh ingredients.

Yelp
Amazing burger and truffle fries, along with fish and chips! The pickles on the burger are killer. Great music and vibes. Donut holes with diet ice cream lol for the finisher. Good times!

Sarah U.

Yelp
Food was good and service was fine. Atmosphere was great however don't get the oysters. 2 of us ended up with nasty food poisoning.

Yelp
Simple bar located on the outskirts of Chatham. Lots of draft beer. My main reason for visiting were their famous Buffalo Wings. They were outstanding!!! Big (but not too big) juicy and well cooked with crisp skin, and the Wing sauce was classic hot sauce and butter. No strange additions to the sauce - this IS the definitive Buffalo Wing

K S.

Yelp
Yum!!!!!!!!!!! Duck toast-perfection Gnocchi with pesto squash and burrata-heavenly-must have Steak frites-solid, good quality White bean hummus-we would have preferred it warm. Flavors good Cocktails-uniquely flavorful, our favorite was "the Saga continues", well, at least we hope so.

Yelp
I would give this place ten stars if I could. Amazing food, friendly staff, phenomenal cocktails, and a cool atmosphere. My wife and I went here after sleeping in and finding out every other place nearby was no longer serving dinner except Drifters. I was a little worried at that, thinking they wouldn't care about the food if they're the only place open but when we got there I was blown away by everything. The crab cakes are really tasty and the burger was AMAZING. They also had a side greens salad really compliments the dishes there well and the fries were so much better than I was expecting too. Try the doughnut holes for dessert too. The cocktails we tried were fantastic and the bartender Greg was really happy to make them and you could tell. Chloe the server was also really helpful and friendly. The other best part of it was the pricing - if we had the same thing at a place in Boston it would have been 60-70% more expensive, or if we had a similar sized meal nearby on the cape it would have been $40 or $50 more expensive than this. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting Drifters any time you're in the area.

Yelp
If you are anywhere near Chatham stop by Drifters. The drinks are incredible, we are from NYC and the creative drinks rival some of the best cocktail bars, Dylan the owner is incredibly hospitable and the food, the food is next level we tried the wings, crab cakes, Cesar salad, spicy green beans and the clam chowder, all were worthy of a second visit. It is a new staple for our trips down the cape. Also they are open late with a full menu, no one on the cape does this!! Dylan has struck gold, be sure to give them a try!
google avatar

Maddie M.

Yelp
I love this place so much! My fiancé and I went for drinks and the cocktails were wonderful. The food looked amazing so the next night we went back for dinner. We shared a Cesar salad and the carbonara. They were kind enough to plate everything separately and the portion sizes were very generous. Both the salad and the pasta were wonderful! Would highly recommend this spot.

Yelp
Place is fantastic!!! Whoever is running this place knows what's up. Well thought out drinks and food. Looks a little dark from the outside and we stepped in and it was super cozy. Got the espresso martinis.. very good and not too sweet. Real espresso and none of that creamy baileys crap. Also tried the Pimms and the Clementine. Both fantastic. Clementine was the perfect citrus with smokey mezcal. Food menu looked fabulous and the people working in the back know what they are doing and we saw them working hard putting out really nice looking food. Windows around the outside of the restaurant letting a nice breeze in and candles giving a really chill ambiance. They have an outside rail where you can sit outside of the actual bar but just hang and have a drink. Best drinks of our Cape trip! Go support them it's a place that actually is putting out good food and drink in the area. Not on the main street but not crazy far off either.

Yelp
This place is really good! They have only been open for a couple days but you would never know it. Relaxing atmosphere and food quality that can't be beat. So good that we came back the next night for more. Owners are really friendly and go out of their way to satisfy your dining experience. Nice drinks too!

Yelp
Doesn't disappoint! Cool laid back local vibe. One of the best Carbonaras I've had! I love a place where you can get a great pasta dish, a burger, fish and chips or a filet. Dylan was at the bar serving up delicious cocktails with great conversation, service was excellent . Drifters is a keeper.

Yelp
Great food! They've only been open 9 days. We were in town visiting from Boston. I'm so glad we tried this restaurant. We had the olives, calamari, bruschetta and wings. All were excellent. It's fun to try a new restaurant before it gets crowded. This one will draw a crowd soon so try it when you can still get a table. Some kinks to work out during the opening but we'll be back for sure.

Yelp
An early lunch allowed us to have the place to ourselves, a plus. Kyla was our server doing double duty getting things ready for the day. We both ordered the Culture Club, mine without mayo. Very tasty and filling. Next time I'll ask for the toast to be buttered as it was quite dry without mayo, but that was not an issue. Enjoyed the background music. Good value. Will be back to try dinner after Labor Day.

Yelp
Fun little spot with a nice food and drink menu. Just grabbed a quick drink, both of which tasted good. Wish they had legit martini glasses but still, they tasted good and service was good. Didn't try the food, but a good spread.

Mary B.

Yelp
This place is a gem! We went there three nights in a row when visiting Chatham because the food was so delicious and well prepared! The carbonara was incredible, the fried gnocchi were the best I've ever had. Don't miss this wonderful little restaurant if you are on the Cape!!

Rupert B.

Yelp
Went out to dinner for our last day of vacation and everything about drifters from the hospitality to the food was excellent!

Yelp
Amazing. Owner learned the craft cocktail trade in the East village. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great local vibe, staff is friendly and welcoming to all, food is tasty. Consistently fun, positive and a great place to get a drink or bite to eat.

Yelp
Burgers were very good, oysters can be ordered a la carte, and a pleasant atmosphere.

Yelp
Went for a later dinner the other night after getting off the ferry from Nantucket. Great atmosphere, service was excellent and the food (I got the burger and fries) was delicious. Owners were also lovely people who were so friendly. Highly recommend stopping in.

Yelp
Great food and small intimate atmosphere. They have wine on tap and AMAZING mixed drinks!

Charles B.

Yelp
Excellent service good food reasonable prices, clam chowder was great. We sat in back which was great the front room was quite noisy

Yelp
In general a Great spot! Cozy, but lively atmosphere, more than expected foot traffic on a Thursday night (1 of the few places still open on a weekday in November on Cape? LOL), great service & delicious, out of the ordinary food! We went the tapas route and were very HAPPY with our choices. Started with the charred corn & fingerlings (Best thing we had! Would def go back just for that. Unique and tasty! Love that they smash the spuds. Normally I need a ton of salt on my potatoes, but not this dish. Perfectly crispy fingerlings in a Bechamel sauce with fresh, sweet corn. Yum!), next my husband had the Buffalo wings (I don't eat meat but they smelled REALLY good & he said they were), pan con tomat (very good as well), Caesar salad was delicious as well (nice touch to have the whole anchovy filets but we had to move those out of my sight LOL), I really enjoyed this salad, & lastly we ordered the white bean crostini which was delicious, but FYI the chili oil was SPICY & while it doesn't mention garlic on the menu (& I love garlic), there's a lot of garlic in there! ALL good! Would definitely recommend Drifters!!

Yelp
Stopped in for a late dinner and were seated within 15 minutes. The food and service were great, friendly service at both the bar and dining room. There aren't many tables in the restaurant, but plenty of space. My only issue is that the dining room is very loud, difficult to have a conversation with the people at you own table because everyone else seemed to be raising their voices to be heard.
google avatar

Shelly H.

Yelp
Small but mighty! Not much seating, but a fun atmosphere with a smallish menu. We ordered a few small plates and shared. We didn't leave hungry. Prices were reasonable.

Yelp
They only opened in the last month and they're already killing it!!!! I've been coming to the cape forever & I've yet to experience a more cozy bar and delicious cocktail than I did at Drifters. My boyfriend and I came here after dinner and tried the Orange wine, the Clemente, Pimns cup and another fun tequila drink request made on the spot. The bartender Greg & one of the owners Dylan are super friendly and talented. It's just the vibe we were looking for and we can't wait to return.

Julie B.

Yelp
Love, love, love!!! So much fun and as you see the cocktails are amazing. Great service and such a fun friendly atmosphere. You would miss a Cape experience if you did not head to Drifters.

Rob N.

Yelp
Food is not very good and takes a lifetime to be prepared only to have it undercooked or lacking in taste and/or presentation. Atmosphere leaves is mediocre and importantly, the attitude and service from the owners/principles is atrocious. Frankly surprised it remains open.
google avatar

Josh D.

Yelp
I was looking for late night food and randomly called Drifters - the guy who answered the phone was friendly and said the kitchen was open until 10:30 - I was pumped. I went in and had a burger - it was amazing. The staff are friendly and polite, cant ask for much more here. This place is great and I'm looking forward to trying everything on the menu.

Maggie H.

Yelp
Great vibe! Delicious drinks! Really enjoyed my cocktail. It was busy and lively. We will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I was so excited to try this new casual bar in Chatham! The interior design is minimalist and seating is first come, first served. If the bar is full you can wait along the rail by the windows and have a drink. We tried the crab cakes, oysters, white bean dip, and burger and it was plenty for dinner. Service was excellent; our plates were cleared immediately after we had finished each dish. Overall, the restaurant has a city feel, which I appreciate!

Yelp
Absolutely incredible vibes at Drifters and the quality of the food and cocktails/wine matches. We've been dying for a place on Cape that can compete with the top restaurants in Boston and Drifters certainly delivers. The owners are so kind and knowledgeable about their craft - Drifters is a must try and then you'll be coming back regularly!

Michael C.

Yelp
This restaurant just opened last weekend and it is fantastic. It is run very smoothly. They serve all different types of tapas and every one of them was delicious. They also have a great bar that is very relaxing and they are open until 1:00 am except Wednesday when they are closed. How great is that on the Cape when most everywhere closes early?!!! The owners are very nice and know what they are doing! I look forward to my friends and I visiting this place very frequently!

Laura J.

Yelp
I went with my husband and adult son for dinner. You can tell it is new as there isn't any art or decor yet. A general modern feel with just two tables and the bar. This could be because they are having a soft launch. My son had the burger and loved it with fries, I had the mushroom vegan tostada it was very good, couldn't even tell is wasn't eating real cheese, a small portion which was great for me. I also had the ginger martini which I really liked a good kick to it and flavor it was smaller than a typical martin. My husband had the caesar salad with anchovies and the anchovy fillets were large and he enjoyed them very much. my husband had the county time lemonade drink, he said it was ok. I have high hopes for this place to succeed as the neighbors in the area are looking for a place to frequent with a generous pour.

Martin M.

Yelp
A terrific niche restaurant. They have a variety of types of food for different appetites (small plates, plates, sandwiches). We had the White Bean Crostini, the Vegetarian Meatballs, and Mushroom Tostada. They were all excellent. They have an extensive list of cocktails. The wine selections were adequate, but I would have liked a wider choice among the reds.

Splawne B.

Yelp
Bruh! Go to Drifters. Get the burger. Get the marinated olives. Have some menu cocktails. Unreal. Get the amazing mixed greens salad. Loved the vibe. Definitely a locals spot. My girlfriend and I dropped in during a weekend getaway and we were welcomed like we grew up in Chatham - and treated like everyone the bartender and chef hugged after we sat down. Our server Sarah was a boss. Loved her recommendations and her close attention. You gotta get some of that Sarah love. Do not miss this place.

Kathy B.

Yelp
Have no idea how this place got 5 stars. No place mats on tables, utensils in a container in the middle of the table, tiny glass of wine for same price as generous serving at an upscale restaurant (gone to the night before), no offer of water. Crab cakes were good but small serving on a bed of shredded cabbage.

Joy S.

Yelp
Cozy, friendly, vibe. Great place to gather with friends and enjoy delicious dishes, crafted cocktails, wine and conversation. I love this inviting upbeat restaurant. You always feel like family when you are here

Maria S.

Yelp
Amazing food !! Drinks perfect! The owner was bartending and was so great !! We will absolutely be back !! Nice to see someone take bride in there business!!!

Shelley S.

Yelp
The most amazing food flavor combinations. A Foodie's paradise. Can't recommend this place enough!! Favorite dishes include crab cakes, lobster roll, white bean crostini, and the burger.

Sheila H.

Yelp
This is an amazing little restaurant, that serves next level appetizers and dinners that are out of this world! Delicious cocktails and a great wine list featuring natural wines. The owners are experienced restaurant folks from New York City, and one of them is a local guy excited to be back on Cape. Definitely check them out!

Erica D.

Yelp
I just love this place! It's just what Chatham needed. I just returned from a trip to London where I ate at some amazing restaurants and this food was right there with anything I experienced. Such a breath of fresh air to have here.

Keri D.

Yelp
Returned to our favorite summertime South Chatham dining spot, to find that one of our favorite restaurants (Talkative Pig) had been sold and was now a restaurant called Drifters. Hoping for the best, but not expecting much, in we went. OMG we're sooooooo happy we did!!! Open just 3 weeks, it appeared we caught them during a "soft opening"- as there was limited seated for dining and they were still working on the interior, but, you could already see and feel, the cool, welcoming, chill vibe taking hold. Anyway, due to the limited seating for dining, we were ushered to seats at the bar (which is NEVER an option for us) but we decided while on vacation mode, we'd just go with the flow. Well between our bartender/waiter Gregory [not to be confused with Craig ;) ! ] and his attentive, knowledgeable great and fun (but not too much where you can't enjoy each other) personality and then the FLIPPIN so TASTY FOOD - we made the right choice!! A different twist on some typical and not so typical dishes made for a truly DAZZLING TASTE BUD EXPERIENCE haha for all 5 of us! FYI Don't pay attention to the menu shown in photo above, as they're still adding to it and will not disappoint on any level. We also had an opportunity to meet two of the three owners (I believe Julie? and Dylan) and they could not have been nicer. Such a great, unexpected experience from start to finish! Just GO!!!!
