Vegan friendly! I was so happy to be able to get a yummy pastry with my blissful oat milk matcha latte ☕️ nice spot to meet up with friends or enjoy solo and do some writing on my laptop. Great location, easy access from the Wilson red line and plenty of street parking out front too.

This cafe really is the place to go if you want to drink happy thoughts!! Great atmosphere, chill jazz music, comfortable window side seating, and a relaxing ambiance for getting some work done, sitting down with a book, or conversing with friends new and old. I'd highly recommend grabbing your next cup of coffee, chai, or happy thoughts here!!

Stopped by for a quick bite to eat and a coffee. Definitely on the small side for a cafe, but the vibes are very cozy. I ordered an orange muffin and the Sum’n Sweet latte, and both were delicious.

This coffee Shope is truly the best in the city of Chicago not only that the coffee is absolutely ground and unique, but the owner of the Coffee Shope delivers more love and personal touch to the whole neighborhood. Going out on my early walks with my pup and meeting others pups and owners grabbing an early morning coffee from the best happiest owner that wants to see you in this life. It is more than a coffee at this place!! It is the best coffee in the whole entire city of Chicago. Please check for yourself!

While on the more expensive side, I got a cider and absolutely loved it, it was worth the almost $9 and that's saying a lot! The baristas were so friendly as well, there is not a lot of seating but it's a great place to sit for a bit.

Great cafe with an awesome owner that excudes a positive atmosphere. Single origin coffee on drip was a huge plus, and the menu includes some innovative drink options. Definitely worth the visit if you’re in uptown!

Very nice barista, very welcoming customer service but I had the same experience as a few others, music was way too loud. It was 9am, for me a bit early for rap to be blasting in your ear. Food was decent but nothing to wow about. I did enjoy the cucumber matcha latte. I will be back for their lattes for sure and the great service.

What a GEM! Drink Happy Thoughts is not only an amazing coffee shop, it brews positivity in every beverage. I love the message this place offers. It has plenty of space to catch up with friends, work, or sit and read. Also plus, it is black male owned! I visited with a friend on a Saturday afternoon. We were able to snag a spot by the window, chat, and people watch. It was pretty busy but most folks got their coffee to go or sat and enjoyed briefly. We ordered: Ice Spice Latte: Such a nice blend of cinnamon, spiced honey we ordered it hot thought it can be iced as well. Matcha Bliss: This was my menu highlight truly the best matcha I have ever had, smooth, creamy, not too chalky and the best part? Pistachio syrup. So so yummy, I dream of this matcha! Pumpkin Cold Brew: Perfect for the season, nice pumpkin flavor which was not too over powering. Nice and creamy and bold coffee flavor. We also ordered some bites, including a ham sandwich on an everything bagel as well as the chorizo empanada. Highly recommend the empanada or 6 of them lol Get to Drink Happy thoughts, make your stomach and mind happy!

Checked out this pretty small but cozy coffee shop in Uptown on Montrose. Drink Happy Thoughts is a clever name. It more importantly has good coffee too. Good place for doing work or just chilling. There's also a few cookies and other pastries. A limited menu but it's big enough. It's about $6 for a latte. The last time here I got the Nutty Professor. Has a pretty good combination of nuttiness and sweetness to it. This is made with a double shot of espresso, and pistachio and rosemary syrups. It's about $3 for a cookie. These are pretty limited in options. Good place to get perked up in the morning or any time you can. It's located on Montrose east of Sheridan. The hours are kind of limited because they close early even on weekdays.

we lovedddd it. this location is super cute and cozy too. I live close and will definitely be coming in to edit/work or just have a cute tea! My foodie friend said 9/10, and she's a big matcha/coffee girlie! H was also super so sweet and helpful!!

Got to love this place! Very small and intimate with cool decor. Very nice owner, and great coffee. I've been wanting to come here for a while and stopped on my way back from the beach for a cold brew. It truly is a "happy" place. It's the honey bears on the side of the building made me notice this place.

Dropped by this cute cafe this morning and tried their horchata latte! It was creamy, smooth, earthy, and just the right amount of sweetness. Yum! The cafe itself is cozy with lots of seating so it's great to sit down and study there. Highly recommend!

My buddy and I found this spot quite by accident one morning while trying to find a different cafe. I'm glad that we ran into this one first, because it's difficult to believe that the other spot would have been better. The sign outside just says "coffee", so I had no idea what the actual name was until we were inside. They should really change that. But once you've ventured inside you'll be glad that you did. It is really welcoming, and while seating is limited, there is a nice comfy booth right next to the entrance, as well as a few high top seats and a couple of tables. The guy running this place is super friendly, and really knows his stuff. He was very knowledgeable about all of the drinks and made helpful recommendations for how to modify things to fit our taste. We went with a Bee Sting and a Marry Me, Mel. My wife's name is Mel, so I was obligated to order that one. I don't think she was crazy about me saying that to someone else, but that tune changed once she tried the drink. Both drinks were fantastic, and had a great balance. The Bee Sting is a little spicy, but really pleasant with the sweetness of the honey. And the Marry Me isn't too sweet at all, but really fragrant and easy to drink. We came back the next day and all ordered a Marry Me we were so impressed. I can't wait to be in this neck of the woods again. We will absolutely return here. No need to scope out other joints. I think this is the one.

Great coffee and the barista was very nice as well. The ambiance pulled off a Costa Rica vibe for me. I will return

Loved this little coffee place. Simple and modern with a focus on crafting great tasting lattes. All the milk substitutions you'd want and sugar free syrup options too. There is some cute seating in this place but definitely a more take it to go vibe. No food options besides donuts but the people in front and back of us seemed content with their beautiful donuts with unique flavors ( I overheard someone order a tiramisu donut and another a lavender one - not exactly sure what that would taste like but it looked beautiful). Would return if in the neighborhood again - my latte was perfect!

The smoothies at DHT are amazing!!! I legit had Diplomatic Immunity the other day and told some strangers to run there and get one, too. That's how good it is--advertising to strangers. The balances of flavors in the smoothies are enlightened! Get some!

Came in around 10am on Sunday and there was only one other customer in the shop. Barista was super friendly and took my order immediately - vanilla latte and a blueberry pancake donut, which was amazing and I wish I had ordered more of them for later! The inside is pretty small so it seems like it's more of a to go than a sit down and hang out kind of place. Food and drink was top notch!

I've wanted to check out this coffee shop for a long time and finally did. BLACK OWNED baby, (under new ownership) and happy! It's small seats in a booth 4, high tops another 4 and there's another section of high tops so I would say comfortably 20 people max at a time. Meter parking on the side. They are known for their honey bear latte, I saw some great cans of Kombucha as well and I'm sure they offer tea. Not to mention the walls are so cool!

Stopped in after seeing other good reviews. Barista was super friendly, place was clean with cool art. I got the Classic Sammich and the Bee Sting (iced) and they were both delicious. I'd be in here all the time if I lived nearby.

let's say this is a 4.8! i popped in during the colder months, and i really love the space and vibe. barista seemed like they were in a great mood and there were a lot of interesting drink choices. i...don't actually remember what i got, but it was one of the specialties and it was AWESOME. i actually asked if i could get it as a cappuccino, which the barista was happy to do for me. a very good blend of being a sweet drink while still tasting like coffee. i didn't get any food, so i can't comment on that, but it did seem like they had some good options. i hung out a while and overall it was just a very positive experience. my one and only qualm was that the music was SO loud. i do have sensory issues (ADHD) so this probably wouldn't be a problem for most people. its something i run into frequently with chicago cafes. i was ok with my loop earplugs in. you might want to get a to-go order if you get overstimulated easily, though.

I liked this place quite a lot. The employee who fixed up my order could have maybe been a bit friendlier--I'm not sure if they said anything besides asking me how I was going to pay and naming one of the drinks as they finished it--but hopefully that was just a fluke? But they were wearing a mask so I super appreciated that. I had been curious about this place for over a year before I found out what it was (so, about a year ago or a bit more) when driving down Montrose and I saw the honey bear mural. Obviously as a Cubs fan, the Cubs bear caught my eye! But this is a such a nondescript storefront that I only learned what it was a month or so ago. It's small. Very small. One of those below grade shops you find in Chicago sometimes. There's one large table by the window facing Montrose, and a couple (somewhat uncomfortable looking) stools at the bar, with a two or three two-top tables rounding out the seating. It wouldn't take much for it to be pretty crowded but it was empty when I was here yesterday around 12:30. I honestly am blanking on whether there's parking along this stretch of Montrose--there must be--but there are several parking spots, which was pretty unexpected. Enter like your going to Ross. The drinks are good. I'd say that this place and The Coffee Studio are my faves of the ones I've tried in the area over the last couple months, for different reasons. Chai is my go-to drink; I don't drink coffee and I don't like tea. So while The Coffee Studio has my favorite chai in general, I really like what DHT is doing with their drink menu. They're inquisitive, exploratory, and dynamic; you'll find things on their menu that you won't find in other places, and that sets them apart. They'd have various drinks they seem to rotate through their specials menu (I'm really wish there was a non-coffee version of Hermione's Adderall!), so they're switching it up, and they have drinks on their permanent menu that are are unusual as well (Figgy Stardust, I'm looking at you!). I'll be honest, sometimes it feels like us mom-coffee drinkers are just paid lip service at coffee shops because most coffee shops will have up to three non-coffee drinks: Chai latte, hot cocoa, and tea (occasionally a matcha latte, so good for my green tea-loving brethren!). But DHT feels like they're actively trying to be inventive with their non-coffee menu, to appeal to more than just the coffee crowd. That really does make give me happy thoughts! Case in point: Their mystery chai, while expensive, is something I will look for each month or two; it's something new that this place is doing and it is fun to see what they come up with, since most places don't go beyond the basics with chai. I had my first today, and I'm honestly really curious what was in it--was that an extra pumpkin-y flavor I tasted? Something savory-sweet, like date? Unfortunately, I didn't realize/remember that the deal with the mystery chai is that you can guess the flavors... and it's a bit of a bummer that the barista didn't mention that. So hopefully you'll keep it in mind. (I only remembered it when looking through the photos I took to post with this review, since it was listed on their speci I'll be back to Drink Happy Thoughts, and perhaps next time will remember the thing with the mystery chai (though I don't expect I'll ever correctly guess the flavors!). I hope they keep up their exploration--especially for those of us who are coffee-averse. :)

Another coffee shop, amazing and it's cute. Yes it's open on a Monday too! It's vegan, vegetarian friendly as well. It's a small coffee shop, so you can miss it if your driving. When your coming into the shop, everyone one is super friendly. The drinks are really good. Can't complain at all. The bear drink is Delicious and cute.

Wanted to love it but didn't. Not my first time there as I like to support local and independent businesses in my neighborhood. I was dismayed on a couple of levels this time around. Food overpriced and not too appealing, music blaring, large hairy dog way too near the counter with food. Then found a charge for a tablespoon splash of non-dairy milk and for ice. Ice! That increased the price for two shots over ice to about double other places. When THEY solicited ME for my feedback, I got a snarky response basically inviting me to go to Starbucks instead. Then a follow up to my additional comments back chiding me for my opinion? Not cool and certainly not inspiring anything positive to say. I read that as perhaps they're struggling and have lost any sense of importance with customer relations. At any rate, there are many choices around and I certainly can't think of any reason to choose Drink Happy Thoughts again. And review team, maybe use the feedback without the attitude of "so there".

We went there to study and the coffee was good but the environment was bad. The employee was playing EDM music and was gradually turning it up louder and louder while saying "maybe if I turn the music loud enough the people will leave." He kept talking about how much he just wanted us to leave and how he wishes no one was there. He also swore up and down at any chance possible making the environment very uncomfortable.

10 out of 10! This coffee shop has excellent lattes, breakfast sandwiches, and lots of options for tea drinkers too! I love how friendly and fast the service was. Literally a cool little coffee shop. This place is tiny, lol. The coffee is pretty good and the vibe is very inviting. This location has housed a few different coffee shops over the years. Hopefully they're able to last.

I came here on a whim and tried to find a nearby coffee place in Viet town. They have a bunch of unique latte drinks, too many to choose from, so I just went with the cardi's mom's rose latte, which is a blend of cardamom and rose. The latte has a great combination of the 2, and the cardamom is just a hint stronger than the rose. The space is small. There are a few tables and bar seating. I wouldn't recommend coming here to study. Overall, I'll definitely come here again to try the other lattes

The worker was really welcoming and down to earth. He helped me make my decision of having a Chagoccino latte. It was delicious! Really cute spot with some awesome wall art. Would definitely recommend!

This place was awesome!! The smoothies are amazing and I highly recommend them. Coffee and bagels are also good. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. It was fairly busy when I went but they got through the line as fast as they could.

Picture this, you are working from home and hoping for a little pick me up. So you throw on your lululemon leggings and sneakers, grab your boyfriend and pomsky. Then set out to support a local business. You think to yourself, let's discover a new gem in the 3rd largest city in America. You hop on yelp and find Drink Happy Thoughts tucked away in Uptown about 10 minutes from your home in Lakeview. Once you, you boyfriend and pomsky (Diesel) get there you are instantly hit with a little joy, because that is exactly what this place emanates. For lack of better words, it is a true Chicago experience with references to the muralist Sentrock and his mural you can fly higher and the street art walls. Not to mention it is so cozy in the front booth. There were zero coffee snob vibes there, it was just simply welcoming, clean, and our barista was so nice. NOW let's talk coffee. I, my boyfriend, and Diesel would 100% go out of our way to come here again, we had the Nutcracker which gave a tribute to Rosemary and pistachio flavors and Hermione's Adderrall (who doesn't like a good Harry Potter reference). Get out there and go support! (Don't forget to take a picture with the honey bears outside too.)

Shading new coffee shop from a roastery out in Kankakee. The staff was super friendly, the coffee well priced and the menu looks interesting. My flaming s'mores mocha was incredible. I'll be back...

In town for the weekend and went here 2x. Solid solid coffee and excellent service. Day 1 had a cortado with almond milk and it was smooth, next day mystery Chai iced with almond milk. So delicious and the mystery will surprise you! Definitely will be back!!

It was a nice cafe, but the service was unfortunately poor. I liked the fig latte I got but I'm not coming back for it. The barista could have been more friendlier, don't know if they were having a bad day but it leaves enough of a bad taste in the coffee I had that I don't want to come back to that experience.

Really wanted to give my neighborhood coffee shop another chance being under new ownership, and I am so happy I did! Service is nice, and their new lattes and specials are pretty great too. Cold brew remains the best! New owner is very nice and personable.

The Cadillac smoothie was super yummy, and filling but still light. The gentleman at the counter was very nice and welcoming! The shop was clean and chill.

I really enjoy the atmosphere of this coffee shop! The iced coffee was amazing and the wait staff was very friendly and helpful.

Thus far my boyfriend has only had the cold brew and I've only have their iced lattes, but we both agree the coffee/espresso beans they use must be amazing because the flavor of our drinks have been incredible. Can't wait to try some more drinks/smoothies/food off their menu!

I got the Dirty Hippie & In Love With Coco toasts for carryout and they were both INCREDIBLE! The pics that I took really don't do it justice. The toast slices are really big. The flavors on both blend perfectly. The Dirty Hippie tastes like it should be classified as a dessert. Soooooooo good! I also enjoy their donuts and the staff are really nice. Great addition to the neighborhood!

They put too much sweetener in the coffee by their standard so you can't even taste the coffee flavor. The service is not great too. Too rude for the "happy thoughts".

I came here with a friend and our drinks were phenomenal. I was a little disappointed that they were out of bear jars for my Thyme is Honey, but I loved the drink just much. My friend got a Matcha latte that he really liked- not too sweet. We both had Swiss and bacon quiches that were crispy and butter and delicious. I will definitely be coming back!

Love this place and the vibes they have. Great art and vegan friendly options as well. But one of the women that work there has to look at the recipe like 6 times before and while making your drink and often messes it up. Regardless support small business especially if they're cute like this one.

I am over the moon to have a local coffee shop that has smoothie bowls. The staff is so friendly and the food is dynamite! I tried the berry açaí bowl, horchata latte and a donut to enjoy later. Can't wait to try everything on the menu!

I have been wanting to try out this place for a while now and finally stopped by this week. I am a bit disappointed with the Horchata Latte I ordered. The cold brew was very weak/bland and the "horchata" was not the best. I ended up tossing my drink out after two sips and making a latte at home, which is a bit upsetting. Other than that, the place was very clean and the barista was nice. I also think that the drinks are overpriced for the quality and taste. I have tried better horchata lattes at other coffeeshops and this one was not the best. My friend ordered a drink too and she did not like hers either.

I wanted to surprise my daughter on her birthday. This is her favorite coffee shop. I took some gifts in a gift bag and asked Hannah to help me with the surprise. I bought a gift card and some teas to add to the gift bag, gave Hannah my info and my daughters and she held on to the gift bag until my daughter came in for her favorite drink. She surprised my Rainbow Baby Girl so perfectly. It was the sweetest. I would highly recommend Drink Happy Thoughts and Hannah.
