"There are a tonne of noodle soups across the whole of London, but few compare to Dr.Noodle. The little BYOB Chinese spot in New Cross is ideal for a low-key lunch or a cheap and cheerful dinner marked by the sounds of slurping and jingling bags from the off-licence next door. Just know that a spoon of the doctor’s chilli oil is a must—the Sichuan pepper film coats your throat like an aggressive Strepsil." - jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak
"This little New Cross noodle shop is the kind of place that everybody wants down the road from them. Wander into the small white-tiled room of nourishment, where bouncy handmade noodles swim in beefy broth or are fried off with slices of juicy duck on top. If your prescription is multiple dishes, look toward the brilliant hand-sized frankfurter jian bing and a tingling cucumber salad. Come dinner, things liven up a bit and the offy on the corner is primed if you’re looking to BYOB." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, daisy meager
"What Dr.Noodle lacks in size it makes up for in broth. Specifically, its speciality beef noodle soup. There isn’t a great deal of seating in this Chinese noodle specialist in New Cross, and its walk-in only policy means that you might need to crack a beer outside before you can get a table, but it’s worth it. And, unlike turning up at Singburi hoping for a last-minute cancellation, you’ll get in. The two-person operation makes some of London’s best noodle soups alongside moreish frankfurter tian jing crepes, as well several exciting vegetable side dishes. True to its name, the unremarkable white-walled space feels like the waiting room of a broth-reliant GP. But if you’re after flavour, Dr.Noodle should be high up your list." - jake missing
"Dr.Noodle’s little white-tiled New Cross space only has eight or so tables, but you’ll find this place is popular with friends and solo diners alike. SE4 locals come to this handmade noodle specialist prepared, with bags jingling from the off licence and rumbling stomachs asking for beef broth. The bowl of soups are excellent, as are the bouncy noodles, and there are decent rice and vegetarian options for those less-inclined to a deep-fried frankfurter." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"Beef soup noodles “Most trips to the doctor don’t come easily to me, but I had no qualms about hopping on the 21 to Dr.Noodle in New Cross. The beef noodle soup at this little handmade Chinese noodle specialist is my kind of prescription. There was plenty of bite in the noodles, the broth had a deep umami flavour, and there was a maternal generosity with beef and herbs. A fragrant bowl of soup like this needs plenty of fresh foliage and this one has got it. And a couple of spoons of the doctor’s chilli oil livened things up even further to the point that a film of Sichuan peppercorn oil happily coated my throat. Local to me Dr. Noodle is not but, then again, I’ve always been told that a good GP is worth seeking out.” - JM" - Jake Oliver, Rianne Shlebak, Sinead Cranna
