New Orleans feels in the Panhandle: charbroiled oysters, gumbo, po’boys, aged steaks, live music, and late hours. The chef-owner has been recognized by the Texas Restaurant Association, and locals praise its role in Amarillo’s nightlife.

Started out strong with the 2 Voodoo Queen drinks. Beautiful presentation (see video) and the drink was fruity and fun. I did get a tiny bone in the chicken fried gator, but it was packed with lots of flavor and had a little spice. Husband ordered the Seafood Gumbo and it came in a bread bowl. It wasn't spicy, but was seasoned well. The bread pudding was hands down the BEST bread pudding I have ever had! The bread was crunchy, soft, moist and the butter pecan ice cream with caramel and candied pecans was perfect! The gouda grits were also creamy, buttery and delicious! My cajun boil with the hot ass seasoning was very gritty. I told my waiter, Jessie, who was absolutely fantastic, who told the manager and she took it back to be remade. Unfortunately the next one was also very gritty. I told her it tasted like sand, maybe something wasn't cleaned properly. The head chef was there and in fact the clams were not properly cleaned and still had sand. She was nice enough to take it off our bill and even had one made for me to go. I am grateful they made it right, but also didn't want anyone else to experience that. The seasoning was yummy, just had a little extra seasoning with the sand. Overall, would definitely recommend! The atmosphere was fun, the playlist had a little bit of everything from country to jazz, plenty of seating, delicious drinks, fantastic service delicious food. Will definitely be giving it another try.

We recently moved to Amarillo and the Drunken Oyster is one of our favorites _ We’ve been regulars at D.O. and it's always a must for our Florida family when visiting _ love that they're open late and have live music for special occasions but of course the food and drinks are the stars (especially the chargrilled oysters!) all the staff have been amazing, but our go-to server, Allen always makes it a special event with his highlights of new menu items and cocktails The Drunken Oyster never disappoints!

Google
I’m not from Amarillo, but was in town and needed lunch. This location very clearly exceeded all exceptions. The oysters are world class! I can assure you that you will not find better oysters in a 300 mile radius. The blue points we sampled are as good as ones you’d find at a high end restaurant in a major city on the east coast. If you’re visiting Amarillo, I think this is a ‘must visit’ establishment for a meal.

Easy five stars, hands down the best spot in town! We needed a place to celebrate a very special occasion and certainly found it, and our server, Autumn, was so kind and generous to make the whole thing perfectly memorable 💕 Hubby and I went on a Thursday evening, had no trouble getting a reservation and plenty of parking out front. The vibe inside was super chill but also nicely refined and polished table settings for a romantic date. We’d gladly come back any night to tip a few back and let loose, or just to try more of the delicious menu options. Portions were generous but not copious and all the dishes came out perfectly cooked and to temperature. The veggie starter was full of fresh grilled green veggies and very lightly salted so as not to take away from the delicious flavors. My entree, the scallop risotto, was worth every penny and very savory. The scallops were just right and the cream sauce was very well balanced. His Cajun fish and chips were, in his words, “unlike any [he’s] ever had before” because it was so moist inside but also crispy and nicely seasoned on the outside . Dessert kinda stole the show, even tho the food was so satisfying. We got the beignets with ice cream and caramel sauce and it was essentially the best churro I’ve ever had (get it). The mousse was light and fluffy and had a nice dark chocolate flavor throughout. The tea was not loose leaf but still tasted good and was well presented, and the Mata Hari absinthe made for a fancy little finish to our magical meal. All in all, I highly recommend trying this place. We’re already planning our next visit with my dad and sister when they arrive in town. Check it out!

Google
It was a great dinner because our child 🎓 graduated. However our server just was leaving fast and coming back kinda slow. Not trying to give him a bad review because he was totally a nice guy, but it was relatively slow. And when he got whatever person at the table said he was gone. So it felt like we were sending him back and forth. I however enjoyed the night. Left because it was such a wait for the check. Overall it was a great night. We love the sparkler.

This place has an amazing interior. The service was perfect! Friendly, responsive, and not overdone. The food tastes great! I only gave it 4 stars because it was not hot. Lukewarm at best. I would definitely go back!

Full disclosure, I tried giving the restaurant an opportunity to address my concern offline and was not responded to, so I will be giving my full honest review of my experience. I was in town visiting Amarillo with family and found this restaurant on yelp. It had good reviews so I figured I'd try it. I was very excited to see there were mimosas with $1 refills. I ordered 2 and was about to order a third right before paying the bill, only to find out that the menu was "misprinted" and in order to get $1 refills I needed to pay for "bottomless mimosas" which was not even on the menu (see photo). I brought this to the server's attention and he directly admitted the menu was misprinted and said some of the menus are right and some are wrong. He did not offer to give it to me for the price I was initially told per the menu and he was unapologetic, even after showing the menu itself. It is a shame because the food was pretty good. The chicken tenders, fish and chips, and lobster Mac n cheese had great flavor. However, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone given that their menus they hand you may or may not accurately reflect what they end up charging you in the end. Terrible customer service and overall business practice. I even tried reaching out after my visit to follow up on this issue and was not even responded to. Shame!

Google
I can’t say enough good things about The drunken oyster. The overall ambience is stellar and the service was exceptional. My mother and I shared peel &eat shrimp and oysters, and got two entrées with two drinks. Our waiter Allen was so attentive and was one of the best waiters we’ve had in a long time.

Yelp
Came through town on my way home. Checked into a hotel then headed here for dinner. First thing I saw was the dreaded metal industrial chairs everywhere. With the exception of some half booths, which had flat wood benches. I had planned on leisurely dining, not a quick bite at a fast food joint. Thankfully the bar had some padded barstools! And that was just the ticket because I got a new bartender who was really on top of her game! I heard her say it was her first week, and today was her first day behind the bar. Well, you could have fooled me as she seemed to know her way around. I looked over the menu to decide on a meal before I decided on a beverage. I know it would be wine, just not sure if it would be red or white. I learned they have fancy oysters, not a gulf oyster in the house. Poor me. I've had fancy oysters and honestly prefer gulf oysters any day. So, a bowl of gumbo would be my started and a dry New Zealand Cabernet Sauvignon would be my drink. The CS was excellent! The gumbo was quite tasty, but as the man from New Orleans sitting next to me said "it's missing something" and he is right. It is a very rich roux, more like a gravy from a pot roast. Delicious but missing some essential spice(s). Not that I wouldn't have it again, as it was delicious, but it needs a little something. Service was great, food was good. I'll try shrimp and grits next time, and you will always find me at the bar.

Yelp
We've been coming here for years, the food is always tasty, service is great and the ambiance is romantic and fun. They sometimes have a live band but when they don't, the music is on theme with the Louisiana vibe. We love the lobster Mac, bluepoint and irishpoint oysters, blueberry gin, the Cajun boil, risotto and scallops.

Yelp
The food was delicious! The service was amazing. The restaurant is so cute and old timey in a way! It is so cozy and nice! Everything was amazing and our waitress was absolutely wonderful and personable!

Rob P.

Yelp
The decor and feel of the place is nice. The mahi mahi was meh! Sweet noodles with bell peppers, stale wonton strips. The fried oyster were above average but you have to be good with heavy batter. The waiter was good as I fell sucker to his recommendation on the mahi mahi. Yes, it was Amarillo should I should have stuck with something more appropriate to the region.

Yelp
Alright. Here we go. This place isn't a 5. But it's DEFINITELY not a 3.9 (current rating as of this review). After eating at 1 billion restaurants and reading 3 billion yelp reviews this place should be at like 4.3 to 4.5. Not sure how the 3.9 happened. Most everything I've had has been solid. A year ago my wife and I got an entrée that was just mediocre, but besides that nearly everything is good to great. The ambience is great. Clean, big, good lighting. Just enough parking. And most importantly for me, they actually can serve you a legit meal late at night instead of BS bar food. Service is always super friendly and on point.

Yelp
What a freaking gem! Beautiful space, amazing service, and food we'll be dreaming about! Brought a group here and we all loved everything about our visit! Highly recommend and look forward to coming back to Amarillo for this! Not your typical Amarillo restaurant, which was amazing because after a week here we were all beefed out! Will likely go back tonight and do it again!

Yelp
Lobster Mac and cheese is wonder so e if the best I've ever had. I would say this place is a bit too expensive however but it was worth it for 2 adult meals.

Yelp
We were Headed home and stopped in Amarillo for the night. I found The Drunken Oyster on here, and it looked delicious. We got into town at 9:30pm, and they were open until midnight. It is easy to find the location and great decor inside. Our waiter, Allen, was excellent and offered Lots of great advice. The food and The drinks were perfect. Thanks to this awesome restaurant, this unplanned date night dinner was perfect. We will be back.

Yelp
The food was pretty good, the rice that came with the food had chewy texture like it was old but the catfish was perfectly seasoned and the charbroil oysters were decent but definitely over seasoned even for someone who like more than average salt. The service staff was very kind and great to help answer any questions and the ambience was beautiful, with a nice and cozy but still modern outdoor area.

Yelp
We happened upon this place on a website called Bring Fido as we're traveling cross country and had one night for dinner while passing through. While we decided against bringing the dogs as it was cold and we didn't want to sit outside, they had a lovely covered patio with a very comfortable set up filled with cushions and pillows. Definitely would recommend bringing the doggie when it's warmer! Very cool inside ambiance and set up. LOVED THE BAR! The food, was WONDERFUL! We started with fried green tomatoes; the sauce made them come alive. We each had a steak (filet and ribeye) and they were delicious. The mash, asparagus and scallops that came with my filet were STUPID GOOD. The little pockets of blue cheese in the sweet potato mash just sent the flavor of the filet over the top. High five to the creativity of the chef and team who created the menu because I'll be doing that at home moving forward. We also couldn't resist the Scallop and mushroom risotto on the appetizer menu so we shared that as an addition to our meals. Great size and could easily be eaten as an entree. Dessert menu was large and filled with fun options. High five for the variety and its presentation! But the real highlight of the night was our AMAZING server Thomas. I'm a straight shooter and I asked him for recommendations out of simply having one night in one restaurant and he didn't disappoint on any level. From drinks, to food to dessert, he was spot on; Not that the menu as a whole looked to be in any way disappointing though. With fabulous customer service, a good amount of charm and playful honesty, this guy was magnificent. I told him if he wanted to move to Cali, he'd have a home with us anytime Management.... Don't lose this guy. He's going to bring you major business! Prices were clearly fitting to the food and service we received. For a great meal and a nice date night, girls night out or even a birthday dinner with a group, this place was worth it and so much more! Wish we had time to try the other restaurants by the same owner (also recommended from Thomas and we know I trust his with my life at this point) If you heard nothing else from the above, JUST CHOOSE THIS SPOT!

Yelp
We stumbled across the Drunken Oyster while passing through Amarillo and looking for a nice dinner place. We both had the blackened salmon and it was the best we have ever had. The service by Allen was also the most attentive that we have ever experienced. We will make this a regular stop on our travels when we go through Amarillo! A true five star experience.

Lexi M.

Yelp
The staff were friendly, timely, and knowledgeable. The food was rich in flavor and probably the best I've had in Amarillo - gluten friendly options were an added bonus! We started with the bacon jalapeño shrimp and breaded catfish bites. I had the scallop risotto, a sunshine margarita, and finished off with a chocolate mousse to share. The ambiance was comforting yet polished - will definitely be back!

Yelp
I would rate this place with ten stars! The ambiance as soon as you go in is so NOLA, including the lighting and the music. The restaurant is spotless. The service was amazing, and the food was!!!! Perfection!

Yelp
Yelp and roadtrips are a good match. Found this one yesterday in Amarillo, TX. The outside is colorful and contemporary. But when you walk in it is dark, moody and Louisiana! Cajun in Texas was done right. Fried green tomatoes, fried calamari, catfish bites, French fries, fried oysters - all starters and excellent. The beer batter was light. We went because of the snapper cakes on the menu but my husband didn't like them. I thought they were full of fish, but he said he was looking for more flavor. I had the house salad to go with all that "fried". Good size with tomatoes, cucumber and cheese. I had the house dressing. I topped my meal with beignets. Theirs were light puffs, not sweet with powdered sugar.great service from Becca. Owner/Manager on site and active. Wonderful unexpected experience in Texas.

Yelp
This is what oyster should look like but what you get is just sad to have a name like druken oyster at least provide it and put your money where your mouth is this is a pic at Scott's oyster bar Amarillo that's fresh and more like NOLA not what you will get at the drunken oyster which is sad

Yelp
Food is good; nice service and ambiance. But the Parking area is dark. And a bit expensive.

Yelp
The food and service was great! The manager was so nice and pleasant. Our server was very helpful on the decisions that we made.

Yelp
The food is always top tier, as well as service and enviroment. Recommend: cajun boil, and creme brulee or beignets.

Yelp
We decided to stop on our way home from our road trip and Amarillo is exactly 1/2 way home. We decided to take the time to enjoy a nice meal instead of Jsut just blowing through town. As usual we headed to yelp for our choices and the Drunken Oyster stood out. I loved the reviews about an old speak easy feel. We arrived and were promptly seated (however no one ever checked on us for about 8min) we started to leave and a waitress did finally approach us and ask if anyone had checked on us and we told her no- she promptly found out the waitstaff in the area we had been assigned to apparently didn't show up and she kindly offered to wait our table as well. We split a salad with salmon and the house vinaigrette and WOW it was so good! The salmon was cooked perfectly and the dressing was creamy and unique. We also tried the oysters and fish cakes. Everything was so tasty and fresh Since we were in a speakeasy I had to try the prohibition absinthe drink. It was a tasty experience. We live 5 1/2 hours from Amarillo but whenever we are in town this will be a must stop .
google avatar

Guy D.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant if you don't mind paying way too much for a good meal and waiting an hour and a half to be served! No kidding, 1.5 hours to get food while the staff intentionally stalled trying to ply our party with overpriced drinks . Portions were not necessarily that great either. At that point we were hungry and tired and didn't care anymore. I'm returning to Amarillo in February 24, and will request that our party Not return to this location. There are numerous choices in town that are more reasonably priced and faster service. Try one of the many steak houses in town!
google avatar

Jason A.

Yelp
Disappointing meal at the DO. I had the "prime" ribeye which was no way a prime steak. I asked for medium rare to medium. It was well done, but that is too expected as it was thin! It was served with zucchini that was also sliced paper thin, thus it was mushy. The server took my wine without asking me, and I still had wine in the glass. The calamari was excellent. For a party of 2, $135. Wouldn't recommend going there...Saltgrass is better. One more thing...to add insult to an expensive steak, it was served on a luke warm skillet. Would have been better served on a nice plate.

Yelp
So I'm a convert. This time around the food was fantastic. I had the lobster mac, which was amazing. Flavorful, perfectly cooked, cheesy, smokey. So good. One of my daughters had the seafood gumbo, she thought it was great. And the other daughter had the ck tenders, I tried them and they were absolutely THE best ck tenders Ive ever tried. She loved them. I had to try absinth this time. It was way better than i expected. Im not a fan of black licorice, but it wasn't super strong. Had some floral notes and other flavors I couldn't put my finger on it. And let me tell you, the Beignet ice cream sandwich's with homemade caramel sauce. Holy crap!!! The best.

Richard M.

Yelp
Wow some of the best food I've ever had. Service was great. You have to try the fried oyster appetizer. Just had a simple fish and chips entree, was cooked perfectly not greasy fantastic taste. Going back soon.

Yelp
Band playing this morning- lil jazz, quick & great service. Table set perfectly and friendly staff

Yelp
Ordered the steak bites medium but they got it wrong twice, had to send it back. Very disappointed. Rare!

Yelp
Made reservations early in the day but when we got there they put us in a back room apart from the experience of the music and ambiance and told us we were lucky to sit back there. Outdoor cushions and pillows lined the wall. Felt like we were in a storage room. A couple came in after us and had to move the table and chairs out from cushions just to sit down. All while the hostess stood and watched without helping. Food was bought out in 2 groups 8 minutes apart. Also they forgot one order and we waited for a waiter but had to go to the kitchen to find out what happened. Food sat on table for over 15 minutes till all our orders made it to the table. I'm sure the food would have been better when it was warm. We came out from out of town and heard this was the place to eat. I don't think so. Very dissatisfied.

Yelp
So I visited the Drunken Oyster the other weekend, and as with most things in life, there were some pros and some cons. I'll start with the pros and move to the cons. Pros: First, it's open late. As someone who works nights this a huge plus. And when I say they are open late, I mean that their kitchen is open until 2AM on the weekend. That's pretty awesome. Second, it's a pretty nice spot. They have a good atmosphere and feel to the place. Third, I enjoyed my food quite a bit. I felt like the catfish was seasoned very well. Cons: The live music was just too loud. It was nice that they had live jazz. And the band wasn't bad. But it was simply too loud and really impeded your ability to have a conversation and/or order. It would have functioned much better as background music. I'm guessing my bartender/server was new b/c she didn't seem to really know the ropes or her way around the back of the bar. To begin with, she didn't know what they had on tap. Seeing as how they only have 6 or so pulls, I feel like this isn't a big ask. Also, the menu doesn't have which beers that are on tap either. Next she couldn't find the Pac 12 championship game on TV despite me telling her what channel it was on. Maybe they really don't get FOX with whatever cable package they have. But if they don't, I feel like that's whole other problem in and of itself (like, you really don't get FOX, ABC, NBC or CBS?). And to top it all off, she added a drink to my bill that wasn't mine. Thankfully I caught it. To sum it all up, the food and atmosphere were great. The service could use work. But again, my server might have been new or just having an off night. I plan on returning at some point. I just hope I can avoid the live music.

Todd P.

Yelp
Food was pretty good but not great for the price. Atmosphere was nice but confusing. Super dark inside and blacked out windows so made it awkward and difficult to read the limited menu. The staff attire and prices ($9 for a draft beer) and plate presentation make it appear to be an high end restaurant but the quality was not there. Want to be fancy restaurant on one side and sports bar types whooping and hollering on the other side. Food arrived quickly compared to the attentiveness of wait staff considering it was fairly quiet and took a while to place an order. I am not typically so petty but the silverware was absolutely terrible! I have seen plastic utensils of higher quality than that! Really ruined it when paying $50 for one to get decent dinner and a beer

Jonna S.

Yelp
The blue point oysters were spot on and delicious. We went on a blustery day and had Irish Coffees that totally hit the spot. Staff was pleasant and service was good. Lobster rolls were yummy and the fries served with them were really delicious.

Yelp
Great for an appetizer and a drink! Cute little date spot. Very dim lighting so be aware of that. The atmosphere is very chill.

Yelp
We typically sit at the bar and receive top notch service. The food and drinks are always on point. They have amazing brunch and their lunch/dinner menus are equally as pleasing. We always enjoy the live music as well.

Karen C.

Yelp
Yesterday, we enjoyed the oyster special & Mindy was a great server! We had fun & we're glad to relax!

Cale M.

Yelp
The food and drinks were so good! I sat at the bar, and Daniel helped me through the menus and provided excellent service throughout the evening! I had the N'awlins rice bowl (small portion for the price, but it was sooooo good!) The drinks I tried were N'awlins mule, Blood and Sand, and Sweet tea gin and tonic. They were all good but the mule and gin and tonic were my favorites. The ambiance is very cool. Looking forward to another trip to Amarillo so I can go again!

Yelp
Our party of four ate at Drunken Oyster on Saturday night - and this may be our last time eating there..... We ordered drinks and two appetizers which came out quickly and were delicious. But then the dining experience went downhill from there --- two of us ordered the special for that evening - New York strip with shrimp bisque and steamed broccoli. The other two in our group ordered a pasta bowl and a filet mignon....my steak was cold but cooked properly - medium rare. Shrimp bisque underneath the steak and broccoli was not seasoned but tasted like day old shrimp were blended up with a tomato...not a flavor that should be served with steak or anything!! My husband loves Cajun pasta - but his pasta wasn't cooked properly and there was hardly any sauce on the noodles. He was served a dry piece of bread that could have served as a very handy paper weight. Dessert menu was presented to us and we all ordered crème brûlée with a cup of coffee....we found out that they had run out of coffee....both decaf and regular!!!! We were disappointed at most of the experience - good thing we enjoyed our friends and the drinks that evening!!! PS - the band played some amazing jazz music!

Yelp
Yummiest food I've had in a while! Travelers Pro tip: make a reservation ahead of time, or be ready to have your seat options at the bar. Thankfully we had plenty of seats at the bar at 6:00 pm on a Sunday evening. Almost everything we got was recommended to us, and everything was yummy! Go and enjoy!

Yelp
Incredible first experience. Our Server Derek was amazing. The food was incredible . My husband got the seafood boil. He said it was the best seafood he's ever had. He's from Maine. That's saying something. I got the Alfredo. It was creamy and with just the right amount of heat. Delicious. We booked Valentine's Day reservations while we were there. We will probably come back before then but are already so excited for Valentine's Day.

Yelp
So so cute! 1. Location is great and easily accessible off Route 66 if you're traveling cross country. 2. Parking is super easy open lot 3. Seating, plenty of it and Pandemic friendly with plenty of social space if you like. The bar is not really social distanced seating though in case you care. 4. No masks required so be conscious during Pandemic 5. Ambience has low lighting, chill country / classic rock chill type music, chairs are metal and benches are wood buy they give these cute cushy pillows for the bench seating. 6. Bar is long and full bar both from a alcohol mixology drink level as well as from a eat whatever you want level! 7. They either do karaoke or have live music bc they have a baby stage! 8. Food is savory and salty! Broiled oysters with bread crumbs and a piece of extra buttery garlic crostini. Worth the calories! Got the Cajun boil with lobster scallops shrimp and blackened catfish. Salty and very savory but a lol too much for one person probably best for 3-4. Would get this again and offset with bland veggies or something. Also got the grilled veggies and lobster Mac sides. Grilled veggies has an odd sour kind of taste and a bit over cooked. Not a fan. Lobster Mac is expensive for what you get. Taste was just ok. Prob wouldn't get this again either. 9. Service was fast and professional and kind happy people. 10. It's also a sports bar with five TVs. One is in a private type room. 11. Outside seating as well. Overall really well done and completely unexpected for the panhandle of Amarillo, TX! You could easily pick this place up and put it in any major city such as SF/Bay area, LA, NYC, Chicago, ATL, Dallas, Portland, etc. If I'm ever out this way this will be on my absolute must stop list! Three cheers to the owner and team!

Yelp
Lobster n Fillet. Pittsburgh rare...fried okra, grilled asparagus ,fried okra. OMG. LOBSTER WAS DELISH...JUST TOO SMALL FOR A DINNER PLATE. IT WAS CHEAP . $74 FOR A LOBSTER N FILLET. Not bad at all..just would rather have the option to upgrade to a larger lobster.

Yelp
This restaurant has amazing ambience and a great menu. But, the evening we went there they had booked a bank playing music so loud we could no longer carry on a conversation at our table. Our server said the manager would talk to them, but that didn't happen. Why would you book that band playing at that decibel level in a restaurant that leans more toward fine dining? SMH

Yelp
I love the lobster mac. The seafood tower is also good. Even the lobster po boy is delicious. I held a birthday dinner here (27 people) and they nailed the service. Great job.

Yelp
Great salad very fresh A little pricey Nice atmosphere Would definitely try it again.

Yelp
I was so excited to order a top favorite fish n chips. It was so salty I couldn't even eat it. Even the tartar sauce was horrible. $25 for a horrible lunch.... Did they get a new cook? This isn't the normal for them.... ‍‍

Yelp
Good food! Eclectic menu and you get plenty. Good service always. Sporty/nice atmosphere.

Yelp
Everytime we pass through Amarillo, we also stop here for dinner. Each time had been great. We have had several things on the menu at this point and all is great. The service is always great as well!!

Yelp
Good spot. We might have been here on a off night, I would stay with the traditional Cajun Seafood dishes and steer clear of the meat recipes. Somebody in the kitchen definitely knows what time it is. Good place to go to Celebrate a milestone, nice atmosphere, good service. I will certainly return and try other items on the menu!

Yelp
the worst experience of my life you would think the "drunkin" oyster would be a fun place. no 5 minutes in and they are the most disrespectful place i've ever been. no one is drunk and the oyster suck assssss!!!!!!
