So I visited the Drunken Oyster the other weekend, and as with most things in life, there were some pros and some cons. I'll start with the pros and move to the cons.
Pros: First, it's open late. As someone who works nights this a huge plus. And when I say they are open late, I mean that their kitchen is open until 2AM on the weekend. That's pretty awesome. Second, it's a pretty nice spot. They have a good atmosphere and feel to the place. Third, I enjoyed my food quite a bit. I felt like the catfish was seasoned very well.
Cons: The live music was just too loud. It was nice that they had live jazz. And the band wasn't bad. But it was simply too loud and really impeded your ability to have a conversation and/or order. It would have functioned much better as background music. I'm guessing my bartender/server was new b/c she didn't seem to really know the ropes or her way around the back of the bar. To begin with, she didn't know what they had on tap. Seeing as how they only have 6 or so pulls, I feel like this isn't a big ask. Also, the menu doesn't have which beers that are on tap either. Next she couldn't find the Pac 12 championship game on TV despite me telling her what channel it was on. Maybe they really don't get FOX with whatever cable package they have. But if they don't, I feel like that's whole other problem in and of itself (like, you really don't get FOX, ABC, NBC or CBS?). And to top it all off, she added a drink to my bill that wasn't mine. Thankfully I caught it.
To sum it all up, the food and atmosphere were great. The service could use work. But again, my server might have been new or just having an off night. I plan on returning at some point. I just hope I can avoid the live music.
