"When ordering peking duck at Duck House, the menu is broken into three tiers: For $79, you get a whole roasted duck with a traditional spread. For $91, you get the duck “two ways”: the traditional spread and one other duck dish of your choice (bean sprouts, soup, or a deep-fried duck bone.) The third tier, at $103, comes with the traditional spread and two duck dishes. There’s a lot to parse, so we’ll keep it simple. Get the second tier and order the bean sprouts as your extra dish. They’re warm, savory, and the perfect complement to the rich duck." - brant cox, sylvio martins, nikko duren

"Our Favorite Dish: Peking Duck (call 30 minutes in advance) This classic restaurant requires you to call at least 30 minutes in advance to reserve your duck, because they spend hours preparing their birds the night before, and sometimes run out. But at least you know you’re getting the real deal - their duck has an excellent, not-too-gamey flavor, with plenty of crispy skin that basically tastes like duck bacon. Bring a group of friends, reserve a couple of ducks, and go to town building wraps using the rice paper “pancakes” and plum sauce they provide." - jess basser sanders, amy clark, brant cox, brett keating

"Movie Pairing:The Last Black Man in San Francisco (Prime) “There are so many reasons to love The Last Black Man in San Francisco - the incredible cinematography, the ways it weaves in complex issues like gentrification and displacement without being heavy-handed, Danny Glover. Plus, it’s a two-hour love-letter to the San Francisco I know and love. One of my favorite memories from when I lived there was when I’d walk to Irving St. with my boyfriend at the time, and we’d order all the char siu, bao, and duck we could carry, then pick it all apart with our hands while watching French bulldogs celebrate their birthday in Golden Gate Park (this absolutely a real anecdote). And while we can’t do that anymore, you can still order whole Peking ducks from Lu Din Gee, a Taiwanese restaurant in Monterey Park that specializes in Beijing-style birds, inexplicably. Call (626) 284-3227 to set up a delivery or takeout.” - KH" - brant cox, kat hong, brett keating, james montgomery

Always a good place to go for occasions, the duck is great, and steam fish is cooked just right, very soft and not overcooked. All their dishes are not overly salty and oily. They have a few big round tables so they can accommodate large parties. Plenty of parking in front.

I love the eel sticky rice!! We had 15 people and booked one of their private rooms. Menu is large so there’s something for everyone! They have stellar service, so we will definitely be back!

Even though it is a bit pricey, great idea to treat your family or good buddies. Sour and Spicy is in strong white pepper. Like it or not, it's up to you. Don't miss the Crispy Boneless Whole Rock Cod with sweet and sour sauce and Buddha's Chicken. However, the Stir Fried Scallops in Crispy Noodle Net is disappointed. My purpose of this order is the noddle net... Too oily, hard and tasteless. If you want to experience a decent Chinese restaurant, give it a try

Super good food and super good service! Love the place so much, we come back immediately after the first time. The duck is very famous classic style, must try! Also like the lobster! You also can have different veggies to balance the diet, many options. Highly recommend!

Food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A very nice Chinese restaurant. Highly recommended. The service was superb 👍 The receptionist was very welcoming, and the waitress was attentive and professional. Not only do I savor the flavors when I eat here, but I also appreciate the level of respect I receive. We ordered four entrees. All of them were delicious. Peking Duck: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The roasted skin had a satisfying crunch without any greasiness. The duck meat was not only moist and succulent, but also tender and easy to chew. The dark sauce even made it more tasty. Crunchy Mayo Shrimp ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The shrimps were large and had a satisfying crunch, with a creamy flavor. The fried shrimps were complemented well by the diced pineapple's fresh taste. The only downside was that the pineapple was served cold; it would have been perfect if it had been served hot. Baby cabbage with mushrooms in dark sauce ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This stir-fried dish is refreshing with a moderate level of salt, and it's not greasy at all. The only issue is that a few pieces of baby cabbage were not washed well enough, so they felt a bit sandy. Sautéed string bean ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This dish was incredibly tasty! The string beans were cooked to perfection, remaining crispy while being well-cooked. The shrimp-flavored sauce provided enough flavor to the string beans without being overly salty. In general, I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I visited Duck House Restaurant to meet with my previous supervisor, and she picked a corner table up front that was very private, quiet and bright. We ordered several items on the menu. I had never had Peking Duck so she showed me how to wrap it and eat it. Basically into the rice skin, with onions and sauce. We also tried a pulled tofu dish, the green bean pork, a crispy rice pancake, and eggplant dish. Everything was delicious.

Since many Fellow Yelpers have been raving about how good the Peking duck is, being a Peking Duck connoisseur, I thought I would give this place a try. We came for lunch today and the place seemed to have a decent lunch crowd. That was a good sign to us. The restaurant owner was very friendly and recommended some dishes besides the Peking duck dish. The owner told us that the restaurant mainly focuses on Beijing style dishes. The main chef spent sometime in Beijing and learned the Peking duck making techniques. As we came mainly to check out their duck, we ordered half the duck and then a string bean and fried bun dish. When the duck came, it looked pretty good 👍 the skins seemed to be very thin and translucent. The pancakes accompanied the duck was paper thin which is like the ones they make in Beijing. The duck meats were very tender but the skins, the main show of the restaurant, were not very crispy. I felt the duck preparation was not done quite right. The duck skins didn’t quite tasted like the real Peking duck. The string bean dish had good wok hei and it’s very tasty. I also like their free passion fruit dessert, courtesy of Yelp. Overall, the foods are above average and the duck is about slightly above average and considered to be good for SGV as there are not many restaurants offer Peking duck on their menu. I do recommend fellow Yelpers to come to try out their Peking duck and let me know what do you think.

Any old hand at the greater Los Angeles food scene should know by now that Monterey Park is a gold mine of the finest Chinese food outside of China, to the point where I had often thought I could charge off in a random direction and find a gem hidden within. I've only tried this once seriously, and it was then I found this gem. When I passed by Duck House Restaurant, I was merely a curious bystander. Having dined there, I'm a convert to this - one of the most underrated Chinese fine dining experiences in the city, if not the country. The pitch for Duck House is as follows: Go out for a big event or celebration, and experience an exemplary preparation of the famous Chinese roast duck, at a restaurant with a lovely aesthetic, that has been frequented by the likes of the late Chadwick Bozeman and the legendary James Hong. Yet, when I looked up Duck House after passing it on the street, I hesitated because of two things; the price of the dishes, and a handful of low reviews, particularly on Yelp. It is true that duck house is no impromptu excursion if you want to sample the titular duck. But if you want to experience the restaurant at a reasonable price, you absolutely can. The green onion pancake is a ridiculously low $6, and balances the oily crisp of the edges with a soft gooey interior. The lunch specials are quite varied, coming in at 12 to $14 per dish, well in line with other similar restaurants. While my group did not attend during lunch, we ordered many of the dishes which would have been on that menu, including three different tofu dishes, all unique and tasty in different ways (though the group as a whole settled on the three cups tofu as the favorite) and an eggplant dish so good, it converted someone who had never liked eggplant before. As to the reviews, from what I could see, there were two complaints: the service was bad, and the duck wasn't good. For us, the service was tremendously accommodating and friendly. When calling ahead to ask whether they could accommodate a vegan member of our party, they both confirmed that they could, and even guided me through the process of reserving, and made sure to let me know to reserve the duck ahead of time. When we were there, they would readily answer questions, be quick to replenish food and tea, even provided complimentary gelatin treats for the birthday, something we didn't ask for, and were not charged for, and seemed to enjoy their work, and for any concerned, were perfectly fluent in English. But you're not here to hear about the staff. You may not even be here to hear about the prices. You want to know about the duck. To anyone unfamiliar with the famous Chinese roast duck, it is certainly a classy dish, typically ordered at banquets, and meant to serve several people. It is usually served in two parts: The meat and skin on one plate, and accoutrements on the other. The idea is to take a provided wrapping, and put in the duck, some green onions, and some hoisin savory sauce and assemble it, burrito-like, to consume. It's always quite the treat, but of the dozens of ducks I've had over the years, this one may be the best. Unlike many restaurants, Duck House separates the skins of the duck from the meat. Duckskin is always a resplendently crispy and savory part of a meal, sometimes a little bit too rich for some, and the separation gives you the option of taking more less of it. When you do taste it, it's very well balanced, abounding with flavor without being too oily. Duck meat can sometimes be inconsistent or chewy, but the thin slices here are a joy to eat, and the green onions and cucumbers balance out the meal effortlessly. From those of us who had been eating duck for years, to people who had never tried it before, our entire party of nine left satisfied and impressed. I truly have no idea what the negative reviews of this place are talking about when it comes to the duck. So if you have an occasion worth celebrating, don't duck out on your responsibilities; Make a detour to the duck house - they're serving duck, but clearly laying golden eggs.
