Where to Eat Oysters Along the Coast of Marin | Eater SF

"Though perhaps better known for cocktails and pub grub like fried chicken sandwiches and burgers, the recently renovated restaurant at Olema House regularly offers fresh oysters. A classic tray of raw oysters is served with citrus mignonette — though the pro-move is to add Parker House rolls with whipped maple butter for exceptional eating. Ask for the house’s “secret” oyster creation: baked oysters with porcini butter and Madeira — at press time, the dish had not yet landed on the menu." - Christina Mueller

What a gem! We’ve been coming to Point Reyes Station for years but just discovered this sweet little compound of inn, tavern, and cafe/market in Olema (less than 5 mins south of PRS!). Due West delivers on charm, delicious fresh food (oysters, mussels, burgers, eat ALL of it), and friendly local service. I highly recommend you venture out of the busy spots (that are also good, of course) and check out Due West. You will not be disappointed.

We enjoyed Due West so much on our trip we're going to eat here twice! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food and mixed drinks are superb. I thoroughly enjoyed the mussels and clams, my family also had the fish and chips, clam chowder, and although there's no kids menu they have the most delicious noodles with butter or chicken tenders. The wide noodles looked like pappardelle. We also loved the calamari and even the lemon slices were breaded and fried and we ate those too!

We stopped by to charge our tesla on our way up the coast, and decided to get some food, as the reviews were good. The reviews didn't lie, we loved it! The seafood was extremely fresh and delicately cooked by the chef. The calamari was tender. The shrimp was fantastic with a freshly shrimp flavor many can't quite manage. The clam chowder was thick and creamy but did not overpower the clams. They have a good selection of curated cocktails. And the ambiance is warm and intimate. What a nice restaurant. Only downside was they weren't open for our drive back. 🥲 We definitely plan to stop again on our next trip up the coast. Can't wait to try their oysters.

We booked for 6:30 on a Monday night and a few tables were already seated. Over the next hour the place started to fill. I love the variety of seating options on offer. (main dining, high top with furry chairs, outdoor with heated lamps) In Open Table there is a description of this place being a pub. The decor is true to that with dark wooden walls, bookkeeper lamps and pictures of horses and meadows on the walls. Our neighbors were all tucking into fish & chips, too! We enjoyed the chicken liver starter along with the fresh local green salad. The miso cure cod was tasty however I thought the carrots were overcooked. Rum raisin bread pudding ala mode was so tasty. I told myself I would eat a quarter but ate my share.

We ran away Marin for Thanksgiving last year and Due West Tavern and its staff made it memorable. Thank you 🙏

Google
We had a group of five for dinner. Nice atmosphere and plenty of staff. My companions raved about the Mussels, Fish & Chips, Cesare Salad, and the burger. It all looked great. I chose the Local Black Cod in a lemon fish sauce. It was underwhelming. Small portion (3-4oz) and the sauce was bland. There were a few slices of potatoes and slivers of veggies, but the overall size of the meal was small. It did not measure up to the price. A side note: the bill had a 5% “Living Wage” addition, and our group wasn’t sure what to tip. (Our issue, really. But I thought I’d mention it)

Google
We had an excellent meal here. Food was outstanding. We had fresh oysters, calamari and hanger steak. Dessert was creme brulee. Oysters were very creamy and the calamar cooked perfectly. The hanger steak was exactly medium rare and very tasty. Margarita was on point. I'd say this was one of the best meals I have had anywhere. Our server, Nina V was attentive and made great recommendations.

Oh my heavens! My partner and I were on a lovely romantic getaway and as we were about to drive through this quaint four-way stop, I just felt pulled to turn into the parking lot to the right. I'm SO glad I followed my gut! First of all, the stop is absolutely picturesque with a vintage vibe, but when you step into Due West Tavern, you're met with a gorgeously-decorated, elegant atmosphere. The beautiful Mayra was our server and she made us feel right at home and recommended a cocktail (Heart's Delight) and the AMAZING fried brussels sprouts - these things are culinary perfection. Everything my partner and I ate was fantastic - one of THE best ceasar salads I've ever had. The restaurant manager invited us to walk back to the creekside garden where, we're told, they host live music on special weekends. Next door is a charming bed and breakfast - so romantic! I will definitely put staying a night in Olema on my to-do list in the near future.

Yelp
Dropped in for lunch and when I perused the menu, I had a good feeling that they would make a kick ass Fried Chicken Sandwich... well, they did! Crispy chicken with some pickles and a remoulade that hinted at tarragon. I super dug my choice, it definitely kicked the Bavette Steak Salad's behind that my wife ordered (heehee). Service was a little wonky, but I will just leave it at that... the sandwich made up for it.

Yelp
Had a gift certificate from my company for this restaurant which we have frequented several times. There was $13.61 left on it when we went back tonight. Embarrassing moment after we presented it when we were told that it wouldn't be honored because the credit card used by employer had since expired. So be it. But given the modest amount, for customer relations sake would it have been better for Due West simply to have given us the credit for future business sake and spared us the award situation?

Yelp
Went to Due West, simply because of its distance from the hotel. It's a lovely space and the bartender knows how to make a drink. The food was meh at best. The oysters were almost room temp, after the first one I decided not to consume any more just in case. The Caesar salad was drenched in dressing, which I don't mind if it's good. This dressing had a strange flavor and the lettuce was never spun or dried off after washing. (Also was room temp, I wonder if the refrigeration was broken) The house buns were good with the sweet butter. I had the steak and my partner had the open faced pot pie. The steak was on a bed of lettuce with chimichurri salsa that ruined the whole dish (not the lettuce, the salsa) The flavors were off. The fries were, well, fries. Note to chef: maybe grill some vine grape tomatoes and have that garnish the steak.... The open faced pot pie, no top so prepare yourself, was ok. A drift from a traditional pot pie with a smoked chicken attribute for an additional cost, not worth the calories or the price. (Maybe note that the chicken is smoked) Again, bar, service and space was great to good. The food needs to change. It was confused and trying too hard. Keep it simple and keep the people coming back.

Yelp
Was my first time stopping by this place on my way home from Stinson beach. Initially stopped her for a drink but decided to check out the food menu as well. Jesse was an amazing bartender w/ good conversation and great drink suggestions especially when I didn't know what I wanted. It was nice to hear that others coming in also were excited for his cocktails. I love the decor of this place and how cozy it feels. Loved hearing that they do have an outdoor seating area w/ heaters so I will def check that out next time! I enjoyed my entree and everything was flavorful.

Yelp
We went hiking at Bear Valley and stopped by this tavern for lunch. The place was nicely decorated and we were seated immediately. Although their was only one other couple dining there, it took awhile for our food to be served. We both ordered the kale salad and fried chicken burger. The food was delicious!

Richard W.

Yelp
I was considerable impressed by the lunch menu, and the food at Due West Tavern. I had the smoked cod dip as an appetizer and the clams and mussels in broth for my main course. The cod was not overly Smokey with a nice texture and great flavor, and the mussels and clams were well balanced and delicious I used the toasts to soak up the broth. They were not over cooked, just tender and delicious.

Yelp
The food and service were wonderful. We just stumbled upon this restaurant on the way to Point Reyes Station and were happy we did. Do yourself a favor and start with the Olema house rolls, you will not be disappointed!

Jeanette Y.

Yelp
Terrible service! The host did not seat us at first but there were tables indoor and outdoor. He also said something confused me! Finally we sat down but no one cleared the table and set the table for us, no water and utensils until I requested. We ordered half dozen raw oysters but only five on it. I would never recommend it to anyone!

Yelp
The food is delicious and expertly cooked. Sure the portions aren't huge but they are adequate. The service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere is beautiful with fun music and pretty decor. Fish and chips fantastic. New England clam chowder delicious. Great wine list. It's pricey but what isn't these days. Definitely stop in!

Yelp
If you are headed to Point Reyes, you'll come through Olema. If you don't turn left or right on hwy 1, you'll drive into Due West Tavern's (fka Olema House) parking lot. This spot is worthwhile for what I see it as - a tourist area restaurant with a fantastic ability to tie your horse(s) out back after a 3+ mile ride from Five Brooks Horse Camp. It requires a brief but dangerous trip on the road. Dangerous because a-hats fail to yield to horseback riders and have zero consideration for horseback riders. It only takes 3-4 minutes to get to where we are going - BE PATIENT! I thought I saw there are Tesla chargers here but I couldn't verify it in my photos nor on Tesla's locations page. The prices are high for the food but this is a tourist location and it's in Marin County. $11 for a small bowl of white cream clam chowder with a very small amount of chopped clam pieces (no bread). It tasted good but was a cheaply made soup. The fish & chips seemed good and bountiful. The burger and fries seemed a good enough deal, too. I heard no complaints about the food. Alcohol about $15 per drink. Alcoholic cider pint was $12. The upstairs back patio was a fantastic dining experience. Our server did well taking care of our large group. I didn't like that the establishment believes they can charge a fee that is not gratuity. I don't patronize these kinds of establishments. Apparently there's a bakery/market here but I didn't see it. If you're into cornhole, hammocks, peaceful creeks, outside dining, they have you covered.

Yelp
Newly renovated, comfortable environment blending modern and country styles. Generous portions, tasty dishes, friendly service. The Mussels and Clams with Chorizo were incredibly rich. Loaded with seafood in a rich and thick tomato broth, topped off with a big ole hunk or grilled bread for dipping. The spicy chorizo notes really puts this dish over the top. Fried chicken sandwich was served on a soft bun with pickles and coleslaw. The chicken was crispy and seasoned with a hint of spice that I can't quite identify. All spice, or perhaps nutmeg. I subbed a salad for the fries and was pleased it came with a Caesar. Delicious tangy dressing and large chunks of parm made the salad stand out. My boys had the kids burger, which is the same size as the adult burger. Huge value! The fries were addictive! Perfectly crispy and seasoned just right. Shout out to our server Willow who was super friendly and very attentive to our table.

Yelp
Place is great, menu and food is well thought out with enough variety to keep coming back for more. It's a nice surprise with interesting west Marin customers, never know who you're gonna see!

Yelp
Mixed reviews aside, it was CPBA (check please Bay Area) that had us book mark this spot. Why you say? The cocktails looked yummy but the steak frites was calling me from over the hills of Marin! We just finished taking the pooch to Limantour beach and he was puckered out. It was off hours aka between lunch and dinner and there was not a lot of folks in or outside. We opted for outside due to the dog. Service was prompt professional and available when needed. The inside looked very cool and a good place to hang in the evening. We sat under a canopy protected by the hot sun, but it wasn't much we could do about the pesky flys that were very aggressive through out the meal. The steak frites was not on the menu! Yet prominently pictured all on Yelp. The waiter said they do have a flank steak. "Great throw one down, medium rare and pile on the garlic Parmesan frites paleeeezzze! He tried to tell me the entre comes with some potato cake deal. OOh hail 2 the NO! I'll take the broccolini but the starch needs to be fries! Either the plate was huge, my appetite extreme, or that steak looked mighty lonely on that big-ass plate...with a few paltry non cheesed garlic frites that didn't help. The broccolini's was a bit too chard for my taste but...so hungry I ate them anyway. Halfway through the broccolini Bae could no longer control herself and complained "my husbands missing some cheese on those fries is he not? They brought a little bowl. I used some, she used the rest on her fish n chips. It's as if the bounty of the sea was on overdrive as the four huge fish fillets were spilling over the huge pile of fries with a decent helping of Cole slaw to boot. Compared to my paltry $40 steak and what looked like a serving of fries that fell off her hard to contain fish an chip platter only to be caught by my whopper of a plate like a net. Do you you remember that Sesame Street song "one of these things is not like the other... one of these things... does not belong... " Fortunately the steak was very very good. No salt pepper or supplied catchup required. I must have had the dull steak knife another reviewer had. But fortunately it don't take much effort to slice into that steak... and unfortunately, it did take to much time to polish it off either! I spared the injustice and humiliation of trying to take a photo for the Yelp-a-sphere of that pitiful platter of mostly emptiness with burnt broccolini and frites that obviously fell onto the plate spilling from Baes abundant fish n chip extravaganza.

Yelp
It was a very cute place upon pulling in and inside was the same. We pulled in on our way to Point Reyes and to charge our tesla. The service was terrible, our waitress never checked on us (and there were hardly any people eating) and continued to forget to bring us more drinks when we requested them after having to flag her down. Our food came very quickly but were surprised at how the flavors didn't mix well and didn't like the taste at all. We got the chicken sandwich and Blackened Cod sandwich. I've never seen my husband leave food on his plate till we came here. Food was terrible. Mix that with the $4 per coke (no refills+incredibly tiny) and the horrible service, I would never recommend this place nor go again. (The coffee next door at Olema House was as equally awful. I couldn't even drink it)

Yelp
I just hosted a bridal shower for my daughter on the creek side patio. I can't say enough as to how smooth and seamless the whole event was. Paulina, the event coordinator, helped with planning the brunch/lunch, drinks and set up. She accommodated our flower bar and signage. The food was great with several gluten free, dairy free options to accommodate our needs. She also set up speakers for our playlist. My only mistake was I listed the location as Olema Inn. I should have said Due West as a few folks got a little lost coming in. During the lunch, the servers were very accommodating but not intrusive. I was able to relax and enjoy the day. I don't know how the cost would compare to other places. It wasn't cheap, but what we got was worth it, in my opinion. I highly recommend Due West for casual dining or a special party.

Yelp
Food was great. Clam chowder was the best I ever had and totally worth it, service was great I definitely recommend. I live trying local places and this was the best one I tried so far. I had a great time with my son and it was totally worth it!

Yelp
Oh Due West, what happened to you? We live out this way and come here semi-regularly but it feels like every visit is worse. This last time they were out of soup, out of deviled eggs, and so we ordered oysters, an heirloom tomato salad, and a chicken sandwich. They then said they could have deviled eggs ready in a few minutes so we said okay. First, the oysters were huge and didn't taste good. We didn't finish them and just turned the shells over. Then, the deviled eggs were warm and smelled reallly strongly of egg in an overly potent way like they were just boiled. The heirloom tomato and chicken sandwich were okay. It was a pretty unappetizing meal overall, and we used to adore this place. I hope they step it up on the food because it used to be so great!
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
The food was good but insanely overpriced. $20 for 3 broiled oysters seems a bit much. But the service was the best! Our server was attentive and prompt.
google avatar

Chet C.

Yelp
Food was pretty terrible. Artichoke was undercooked -- I think they roasted it without steaming it first. The $46 flank steak was tough and overcooked, and their steak knives were dull too. Other than the food, the cocktail I had was good, the server mumbled, and they had a 5% hidden fee "separate from gratuity" -- wtf is that about? Why not just raise your prices?
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty MEH experience. Food we had: Tavern Burger - mediocre - cook was poor; well done on one side and rare on the other - we ordered it medium rare. French fries were outstanding: crispy, well seasoned, and very potatoey tasting. I could eat a bucket full of the fries. Calamari - mostly vegetables and very little squid. Under seasoned, but fried perfectly. Fish n chips - terrible. I was told it was fresh cod and it was mealy and flavorless - wet cardboard and very thin, low quality filets. The breading was thick, dry and greasy at the same time, (needs to be a beer batter and there was more breading than fish AND they left the bloodline in which makes it unpleasantly fishy tasting) under seasoned and totally the wrong texture for fish n chips. Fries again were outstanding. The tartar sauce it came with was really good. Had to request malt vinegar but they did have it. Had to add a fair bit of salt. 27 bucks for this was unacceptable. Garlic Parmesan fries- stellar. Truffle Mayo was barely truffled but the fries were really good. Fried chicken sando - nothing to write home about. Clam chowder. Delicious, but there were large clumps of flour that hadn't been mixed in properly and had become like little dumplings almost. Despite been cool error they were oddly tasty. The clams were really tender and very flavorful. Wedge salad was good. Caesar was good. Wedge was not a classic wedge - it was little gems lettuce and honestly better than the typical wedge. They have Pliny the Elder on tap and god was it good. Really excellent drink selection. The Victorian Lemonade was totally delicious. Service was mediocre. It was pretty busy but it took nearly 30 minutes to get our salads and soup. a few minutes later our entrees came out and then about ten minutes later our appetizers came out. That was pretty annoying. Wait staff was wonderful. Super nice and attentive but not annoying. Waiter was fully aware that the kitchen screwed up our order and was apologetic. Fortunately our dinner mates were wonderful and we were distracted enough. Ambiance would have been better for everyone else had we not been so loud. (Sorry folks - we were a big party and hadn't seen each other for a bit) Other than that ambiance was great. It was nice that they didn't have the TV on in the bar area where we ate. The decor is really pleasant, there's tons of outdoor seating and they have these massive propane heaters that put out a lot of heat. We are inside and it was nice. Everything is clean and our waiter was wonderful. But, when you pay that much money for food, the food should be outstanding. And it just wasn't. :( If you love French fries and clam chowder though, you're golden.

Yelp
Stopped by here for lunch, and we had a great meal. The clam chowder is excellent, full of clams, thick and creamy. We also liked the chicken burger and caesar salad. Drinks from the bar were also excellent. The decor is casual western, with discrete lighting. I imagine it feels comfortable and intimate in the evening. The building is old, perhaps from the 1850's, with 1930's sash windows, wainscoting, wood floors, and nice, solid, comfortable tables and chairs. I look forward to going back!

Yelp
Their burger was yum yum! The high grade bacon makes a difference! Clam chowder was pretty good too :)

Yelp
We were at Due West last week for the first time, and it will be our last. Food was very hit and miss--stay away from the risotto....pure cheesy mush. And the desserts were awful. Cold apple cake /pie was served with ice cream that didn't melt after sitting at our table for more than 20 minutes. It tasted as artificial as it actually was. When we showed it to the staff, they first denied it and then expressed astonishment as they had never noticed that before. The sweet potato flan also lacked flavor. There were huge billing problems as we had a $75 credit from the next door hotel and no one knew how to handle lit. Upon check out at the hotel the next day we realized our signature had been forged on the receipt and a tip added on that we hadn't written in. Our server was very kind, but overall the experience was incredibly disappointing and unsatisfactory. We recommend you avoid this restaurant and hotel.

Yelp
How does someone select zero stars. Do not go here if you are a person of color, these people are racist!!! Called ahead for my wife birthday to make reservations. Lady seemed nice on the phone, when we showed up, we gave our name. The hostess looked at the room and said "hmm uh I guess we can sit you over there." She pointed by the door. I didn't understand why she wanted to put us by the door for a reservation for a bday. I asked if we could sit anywhere else. Another lady said you can sit by the bar if you want. We decided to sit over by the bar. The waitress took 15mins to take our order. We order quickly for my pregnant wife. We waited and saw 2 other tables order after us. They ordered the same exact thing we did. They received there order after a 20min wait. I was so upset by this but my wife said it was here birthday and not to be upset. After 50mins walked over to the front host and to see the manager. She laughed and the other waitress shook her head at me. After 55mins, no food. I said forget this, this is the worst restaurant we have ever been. Do not go here if you are a person of color or a pregnant wife.

Yelp
I've been here every time I hiked Alamere falls, but today I got to try their clam chowder and it was sooo good. They have bacon in it, and although they may be stingy on the clams... the bacon adds so much depth to it. The eggs benedict was good and I loved the crispy tater tots. The burger and fries were good as well. This place is definitely on the pricier end, but I enjoyed my meal.

Yelp
YOU MUST EAT HERE!! We stopped by on our way to look at a property. This place is charming, cozy, innovative, fresh and current. The old building is painted an almost black dark green inside with original art work hanging on the walls. There is so much attention to detail that even the table legs are cute! (yes, I notice all of these things). The front of the bar face is upholstered in brindle cow hide. Retro music plays in the back ground and many foreign accents from hip and stylish diners can be heard at neighboring tables. The service: Perfect! They are all so friendly, yet not pestering. Our waiter recommended some great dishes. Service was prompt, but quiet and discrete. Cocktails: I had the Reyes cup. Delicious frothy gin and cucumber based. My husband had a nice Cabernet. The beer menu is one of the best I've seen! Dinner: We had the wedge salad to start. THE BEST WEDGE SALAD EVER! The Pt Reyes blue combined with fresh hard boiled egg, bits of house cured bacon... OMG, I could have been happy with just this. Our main dishes were Cioppino and the orecchiette pasta with mushrooms. The Cioppino was not hiding behind garlic. The seafood was all fresh and delicate in a sweet and tangy tomato base. The mushrooms on the pasta were earthy and wonderful with a hint of Madeira. We look forward to returning here- hopefully soon!
google avatar

Yelp
Small menu but covers anything you might want!!! Cioppino and mushroom fusilli both excellent. Friendly and professional service. The cheese plate is excellent -- particularly loved the Bleu -- could use a few more crostini. Nice tap selection of beers.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, good food, prompt service. I recommend the deviled eggs and miso cod. The restaurant was clean and well kept.

Yelp
RACISM ALERT! If you are not white, DO NOT GO HERE or you may experience discrimination. People of color: AVOID THIS RACIST PLACE. I chose this place for my birthday dinner and it was memorable for all the wrong reasons. The food was delicious but it's not worth feeling like an outcast. I've been to most of the restaurants in Point Reyes but my experience here was the WORST. The moment we walked in, we got dirty looks. The vibe was negative immediately. The host was not welcoming and the server was rude. My party (of 4 total) and I observed how kind our server treated everyone else (all white customers) but treated us like shit. She ignored us and gave us a passive aggressive attitude whenever we needed anything (ie water). Her attitude was cold and irritable. But with her other white customers, she was so warm and attentive. We had to flag her down for water and felt as if I was inconveniencing her. When asked her to take a photo for us, "she replied, I'm busy now so I'll come back." We waited a 20 minutes and she never came. So I asked 2 more times and each time, "I'm busy." Meanwhile, she spends about 5 minutes chatting with other customers. For the remainder of the night, she did completely neglected us so I just took a selfie. We left and everyone ignored us. After dinner my friends said, "They were so racist at that restaurant!" After reading several negative review about this place, I couldn't agree more.

Adam N.

Yelp
Let me start with a classic food service industry statement: if you are in the people's business your goal should be to serve people, and not just leech off of your location trying to rake in as much $$$ as possible. The priorities here are clear. Both the place and staff are horrendous. Stopped here to charge my car and get a bite. First off the tesla charger in the front causes stress to everyone from the getgo, since ppl are fighting for spots. Some non-tesla drivers taking charging spots, I literally heard 3 f bombs in less than a minute ("as in: "f tesla", "f them who cares") just as I approached the building. Nice. Then I walk in, mind you the whole restaurant is empty, they ask for my reservation (1 person) and they told me I can't sit anywhere. Not even at the bar? Lol? Boomer establishments like this should just disappear asap, and they thankfully will soon since nobody under 30 will give business to places like this. Next time do better, you are for the customers and not the other way around. Have a nice day.

Yelp
We came to Pt. Reyes for our 20th Anniversary and decided to have dinner here. We were seated outside on the patio with a heater, nice & warm. The service was good, the waitress very friendly. The squash blossoms and the heirloom tomatoe salad were the highlights of our meal. My main course was NOT good. The black cod portion was tiny, the pereeed carrots were reminiscent of jarred baby food, but the worst was the flavorless, tough, horribly prepared baby bok choy. The waitress was kind enough to take it off the bill, but I wouldn't recommend ordering this. Maybe a hamburger would be ok, I wouldn't know. My husband had a beef rib that was just ok. Overall, I would say the choices in town are minimal, so maybe do some research, or get a sandwich from the local deli. Very disappointed for our Anniversary dinner.

Yelp
Prices are way too high for food this bad. This place has gone waaaay downhill. I never leave reviews but I'd avoid this place like the plague

Yelp
We had a fun meal here on Wednesday night. It was totally packed and a fun vibe! And a beautiful drive out from southern Marin, felt like I was on vacation for the night! We had the roasted carrots (honestly the best I've ever had), tomato & burrata and salmon. Great cocktails and then walked the grounds afterwards. Definitely will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
They have a 5% mandatory surcharge that is not a gratuity added to all checks. This kind of pricing is a total turn off.

Yelp
We stopped here after taking a hike on the trails and need a little snack. It was Happy Hour and we gave it a try. We started with oysters and moved on to the Grilled cheese and chicken wings. The bartender was amazing with the happy hour drinks and made the stop worth it. Super friendly staff and the cleanliness was on point. I highly recommend stopping here if your in the area.

Yelp
We went late on a Friday afternoon recently after a hike. The staff was amazing and informative. We shared the avocado, deviled eggs, delicious. Also split a burger and clam chowder. Superb! Loved it and will return anytime I'm in West Marin!

Yelp
I've never written a negative review before this one. We asked for a table for two and were told the restaurant was fully booked (as Saturdays are only reserved for reservations) but we could sit at the bar. During the duration of our stay, over 50% of the tables remained available. A woman that got there 15 minutes after we arrived received her burger 10 minutes before we received our meal (two salads). One of our salads was a caesar salad with ranch (this is what was ordered). We were told by the waiter that he would double check that they had ranch. Once the salad came out, it had caesar dressing. That's when we were told that there was no ranch available. My sister has dietary restrictions that prohibit her from eating caesar dressing. She received a meal that she didn't order and then could not eat. Thankfully, they took off the salad payment from the bill after we asked. As an aside, there were several couples and families fighting ?? The general ambience was unhappy customers and unsatisfactory customer service from the manager on duty. We overheard at least one other customer that had to send a cocktail back because it was made incorrectly. Meal prices were way too expensive for the quality delivered.

Yelp
Really hit and miss with this place! I ate here a few months ago and had a fantastic fish sandwich. But then I just went there again on Sunday thinking I ordered the same fish sandwich but it was prepared completely different and only mediocre. Bun wasn't nicely toasted like before and very little fish was in the sandwich. The fries were also different and not as good. The first time they were served with truffle aioli. This time the fries didn't seem as fresh and came with ketchup. Different chef?? The two sandwiches were night and day. I liked the first one so much, I drove a whole hour and a half hoping to get the same sandwich but was soooo disappointed. I'm sorry Due West, whatever is going on.

Yelp
Wish I could leave 0 stars. I don't yelp much and usually only do when the service in phenomenal. However, this experience was terrible. Food was a 1/10. Overpriced. Think city prices with slow service, a kitchen that doesn't know how to course out a meal ( starters and main brought out together) and poorly seasoned overcooked food. Pork chop was so dry and lacking flavor. The steak I ordered to be medium rare ( more rare) came out medium well. To top it off I had the hostess come to me at the end and try to explain that it wasn't made medium rare because it would be bloody. Obviously I know that medium rare is bloody LOL I eat steak all the time. She proceeds to tell me that if the meat was medium well it wouldn't be pink at all. She either has no clue about meat temperatures, or was trying to subtly tell me off at the end. I worked in the service industry at high end restaurants, I know my meat temps. The server was nice but slow for a relatively empty place. I don't understand why she sent the hostess over at the end. Hostess left a sour taste in my mouth and will definitely not be back here for our next visit. I ended up paying $100 for two water downed overtly sweet drinks ( spicy Margarita was just a pineapple drink), a cheeseboard that we had to remind the server about, the prawns ( which were very good), and a beet salad. I don't mind paying extra if service and food are 100% but this was subpar in everyway.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I love taking a drive on Highway 1 and going through Olema and Pt. Reyes Station especially with family living in the area. We saw Due West and decided to stop for a quick refreshment. They had their brunch menu and ordered 2 appetizers to share: the butternut squash soup and their brussel sprouts (drizzled with citrus vinegrette and cooked with bacon chunks). Both were so tasty! We will be stopping by again when we're in the area visiting my family!

Yelp
Unfortunately the menu was incorrect in stating that the linguine contained shrimp. We alerted the server & were given a credit. Apparently it was a misprint? It was also supposed to include mushrooms & kale. My friend got the kale & I got the mushrooms. Menu mistakes aside the food was delicious & service attentive. Chef needs to pay attention to what is listed.

Yelp
Went there for charging my Tesla after visiting the lighthouse. Service is ok. Food is terrible. Portion is small. Price is big and it seems like a $$$ place instead of $$. Overall, a disappointment.

Yelp
Love this restaurant, it's got a lot going for it, quaint, classy yet NOT snobby, low key, tasty food and great service. It's a touch of modern and history all in one. Anyways, here's what we can recommend from their simple menu: Cesar Salad- large, yummy dressing and fresh. Clam Chowder- delish and homemade, soft clams, not gritty. Focaccia Bread w/butter- soft and fresh with lots of rosemary. Salmon dinner- perfectly cooked, moist, fresh and great flavors sitting on a bed of corn and I think rice. Steak frites- ordered medium and it came well done, I'm sure it would have been better medium or medium rare. Their house Cab was very good and they have generous pours- $8

Yelp
Eat and drink next to a seashore treasure! Olema is an unincorporated community in Marin County. Its claim to fame may arguably be the fact that it is mentioned in The Young Blood's 1971 song titled "Hippie From Olema"! However, if you are a nature lover and an outdoorsy person, you may associate it with the fact that it is about a quarter of a mile away from Point Reyes National Seashore visitor center. There is also history there. I won't go into too much details here, but Olema was named after the Coast Miwok Native American village of Olemaloke, which means Coyote Village. You can see the recreated village of "Kule Loklo" (meaning "Bear Valley") at the Bear Valley Visitor Center. Those who may have explored the many hiking trails of Point Reyes National Seashore or are familiar with it in other ways would know what a national treasure it is. Add to all of the above appreciation for good food and Due West Tavern will come into play! Due West is located in a 1865 building next to Olema House that was recently renovated. It serves delicious food with very fresh ingredients. Having tried their steak, fish and chicken dishes, I can vouch for their freshness and taste! Don't like meat? Try their Vegetarian Nicoise; delicious! During our last visit, a friend of ours ordered the Due West Burger and loved it. I did not try it myself, but loved the fries that came with it!! Don't tell anyone, but I also attacked the fries that came with the other friend's steak and loved it even more!! Somehow fries taste better when you take it from someone else's plate! On the same visit we started with Charcuterie & Cheese Board and Broccolini and everyone in our group unanimously gave both items great reviews! Before I forget, I should say that the bar offers many beers on tap and the cocktails are great too, but make sure you have a designated driver please! It is a winding road back to San Rafael or San Francisco (on Highway 1). Olema is easy to get to from San Francisco. Just cross the Golden Gate and head north on Highway 101. At San Rafael take the exit to Sir Francis Drake Blvd all the way to CA-1 and there you are!

Yelp
There are lots of places in the world where Due West would be a four, but not in Marin County, so close to Napa and San Francisco. The general level of culinary experiences here is higher than Detroit or South Jersey, so a restaurant here has to work harder than this to earn a 4. We had clam chowder, which was very good, as a starter. Great start. No drinks because I have been doing wine tastings for days, but Maybe I was missing that? For mains, I had salmon and my wife had steak. The salmon came with brussells sprouts and squash. The steak came with fries that we had upgraded to truffle parmesan fries, but the kitchen forgot. The server took the plate away and they seemed to put truffle oil and parmesan on in 2 seconds. It was all fine, absolutely nothing wrong with it, but just not memorable, you know? I would eat here again but I will be in no hurry to do so.

Yelp
Very nice dinner and drinks at a casual but well done restaurant. I had the best clam chowder I think I ever had. Definitely a restaurant to come back to.

Yelp
Wow! My wife and I had what I consider one of the best meals of my life! My wife had the salmon, while I had the black cod. I think the highlights were the forbidden rice, carrot purée and fennel bulbs. Our taste buds may have been more receptive after hiking all day, but I'll have to tip my hat to the chef. The house red wine (a cabernet sauvignon I believe) was also perfectly complimentary. Can't wait for my next visit. Also a shout out for the unique salad options!!! I had the fall lettuce with roasted squash, shaved zucchini, pomegranate and goat cheese, but I always the other salads available
