"It sure seems that Arts District restaurant Duello has closed down for good. The bar has scraped its social media presence, the phone lines go unanswered, and as of service hours on Saturday night, the security doors out front were rolled up tight." - Farley Elliott

"LA Downtowner has a new piece out on Duello, the reborn bar and restaurant in the former Simone space. Now with its previous residency behind it, the casual hangout spot in the Arts District is trying to become something for the neighborhood, complete with cocktails, a burger, and late night hours." - Farley Elliott

"Out of the ashes of one of LA’s most surprising restaurant closures rises Duello, a casual family-style dinner spot in the Arts District under chef Jason Beberman, formerly of Empellón and Gramercy Tavern. The new Duello takes the name of the former Simone front bar area and extends it to the entire space, focusing on casual fare for groups, including crispy pork belly with salsa verde, or octopus with fava beans and toasted garlic. Expect larger-format main proteins as well, from lamb to short ribs. The new-look Duello will also continue its cocktail focus under bartender Iain McPherson. The restaurant’s new/old opening starts this Saturday, with hours running from 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday." - Farley Elliott

Randomly walked in for brunch and probably had the best time. They opened last September so it's fairly new. Arthur the operations manager is the best! The staff is extremely nice and helpful. When you walk in the front bar you'll be greeted with some champagne (on the house). If you're sitting at the bar you might do a shot with everyone there, you've been warned. They know how to have fun. We got the standard issue and short rib porridge. Both great choices but a bit salty. You can also have dinner at the main area or just have brunch at the bar. This place is a legit choice.

Such an amazing selection of complex food selections, that one trip is not going to enough. The waite staff was amazing with the service and menu insights. We will definitely be going again.

Beautiful space and great staff. The food was super yummy, with a shout out to the Caesar salad (served on broccolini, which was a fun twist). We ordered the dry aged steak, which is served with “all of the things.” Great in concept, okay in practice. The steak itself was good, but a little work on the story of all the dishes (which had a high sodium content) served with it would go a long way (and justify the price). Only 2 weeks in, so looking forward to coming back in the future to try their refined menu. Yum!

I love the unique lights that gives a nice and warm feeling when you walking in. I would highly recommend this place, more of places like these would be great!

Beautiful space and atmosphere but food was disappointing. Cocktails great and bartenders wonderful. Service was good as well. Food underwhelming. The short rib was terrible- big hunks of fatty beef. While the waiter did try to warn us that is was not typical short rib, it lacked flavor. Scallops good not great. The cabbage dish was wonderful. Desserts not good - the apple thing may have been worst dessert ever - bad flavor. Place has potential but feel they are trying too hard to be different - they just need to serve good food

I had a wonderful experience at Simone. I went with a big group last night and sat in the back room which is perfect for large parties. We tried almost everything on the menu except sadly for the Ribeye (next time). It was all delicious. One of my surprising favorites was the cabbage. I never knew cabbage could be so flavorful! The Short Rib's rub was perfection and the meat perfectly cooked. My experience at Simone was flawless. The decor was stunning, the staff warm and friendly, and food yummy. I will definitely be coming back soon.

Our visit was nothing short of amazing! From the time that we walked in, until the moment we left the restaurant, the entire experience was absolutely beautiful. Some food highlights worth mentioning: The short ribs - like butter that melts in your mouth. The scallops - a delight. The little gem salad + the burrata = tantalizing! So many memories made on this very chilly February evening. We send special thanks to Art and his team - including our amazing waiter, Michael. Also Nina, the very talented pâtissier. And not to ever be excluded: The Goddess herself, Chef Jessica. We loved all of it. Thank you, Team Simone!

Beauty really is skin deep with Simone. The venue is beautiful, but sadly, that's where the good times end. The menu, firstly, is small. I have no problem with that if they do everything on it well. Sadly, they don't. The food is lacking, not in imagination, but in execution. The meatballs were tasty in a wonderfully cheesy broth, but that was the main highlight. The pickles were fine but nothing exciting. The $10 bread was as good as you'd expect 4 slices of bread with butter to be. The short rib was disappointing to say the least. It was crying out for a sauce , and for the fat to be rendered down more. Desert was nothing to get excited about. The worst thing, though was the clear desire to get diners in, get their money and get them out. My GnT was cleared before being finished. Our sweet potato dish was almost gone but we lucky saved it. The check came as the last bite of desert went into our mouths. We were at our table for an hour and half, and that felt like it was an imposition. Lucky for them, we won't be imposing again.
