Çka Ka Qëllu Celebrates Albanian Cuisine in Murray Hill - Eater NY

"In the Bronx, for example, you can get these spectacular stuffed phyllo pies at coffee house Dukagjini Burek in Pelham Parkway, and Çka wisely hesitates to tread on its turf." - Robert Sietsema

Google
Great spot for authentic Albanian burek. Food was great, immediately out the oven and the price is great. My Albanian friend took us all the way here from Manhattan specifically to try the best burek he knows and grew up eating.

Ankush Thakur

Google
Amazing Burek! It's smells wonderful in there. Freshly made Burek. We really loved the cheese Burek. Highly recommend trying it out.

Google
Delicious bureks, an Albanian specialty, served in comfortable clean surroundings. Magnificent!

Google
Crispy & flaky with a generous amount of beef. Hands down best Burek in NYC. You know it’s legit when the mother’s & grandmothers in the back preparing the food. 5 stars all around.

Google
Bureks are super fire. This place sometimes gets crazy busy. It’s a small no frills spot but definitely one of my favorite places to eat in the area. The meat burek is good but I think I like the spinach and cheese more. Would highly recommend if you haven’t tried it already.

Google
The spinach and cheese burek is extraordinary. When it comes fresh out of the oven, its a explosion of flavor and warmth. We also had the cheese burek - also tasty but perhaps not as much as the spinach and cheese one. The place has a limited menu (including homemade yogurt) but each item on the menu is super delicious. The folks at the counter are very kind and friendly. If you are ever in the area visiting the Bronx zoo or the Botanical gardens, this is definitely the place to grab dinner. The place is tiny with around 5 tables and very bare-bones decor, but the bureks are worth it. They are $5 each. A whole burek pie costs $20.

Google
So delicious! They make 3 types of Burek: meat, cheese, and spinach. Love them all. And don't forget the homemade yogurt! If possible, sit down and eat one fresh out of the oven!

Stephanie Jean-Stern

Google
I tried the spinach & cheese and meat burek. Both were delicious and flaky. I wish we had gotten a whole pie! The woman at the counter was really nice and patient in explaining the Albanian drinks they also sell there. We'll definitely return soon.

Yelp
This place is so tasty it is trouble! I was looking for a quick bite near Pelham Parkway and stumbled upon Dukagjini Burek on an online search. Having no clue what a burek was I proceeded to do some research and uncovered that I hadn't been doing life right as I had been depriving myself of the joys of the flakiest and tastiest of savory pastries in the Bronx. I had to correct this asap! I went on a weekday afternoon and fully reveled in the delights of burek. I really intended to get more than one slice but the burek was very filling and I couldn't make it past one. I was able to snag a table and throughly enjoyed seeing how the bureks at DB brought a really diverse group of people together. I heard Spanish, Albanian, Arabic, and English. Young and old. Locals galore. That's how you know the place is reallllly good. Fresh out the oven. Flavorful. Greasy deliciousness. Try it, you might just become a regular!

Yelp
After a day at the Bronx zoo I wanted something new and local to the area before heading back to Manhattan. This is the spot! I got a beef pie and the lady cut it in half so I can eat the rest later but it's so good I ate it all in one sitting and took the spinach home. Friendly service and A rating for cleanliness. I'll be back next time I go see the gorillas.

Yelp
It's like a stuffed pizza,addictive. It's absolutely delicious.you can't just do one and it's not expensive. I'll be a regular now

Yelp
Is this a place you should drive out of your way for from another borough? Unless you love burek SO much that you're willing to pay tolls to cross bridges and brave traffic for? Probably not. Is this a place you should visit if you're in the area of close enough to it? Absolutely, yes! The thing to get here is obviously burek because that is what they sell here and the burek at Dukagjini is superb and as close to authentic as you can get outside of Albania. The burek is fresh, flaky, and delicious and the simplicity of the menu makes it easy for you choose between meat, cheese, and spinach, which are all equally good but very different from one another. I loved the ooey gooey goodness of the cheese, the flavor of the meat, and the freshness of the spinach, and as I said you can't go wrong with one, two, or all three but beware of the portions, which are generous and quite filling. The lovely people who work here are very sweet and helpful so grab yourself a slice or a pie along with an espresso or cappuccino and experience one of the best of the Balkans! Excellent spot to check out if you're in the Bronx!

Yelp
Just delicious. I'm from CA but make a point to visit when in NY. Warm, welcoming, fresh. My favorite is the meat, but also love the spinach. It's really nice to eat a cup of fresh, tart, creamy yogurt along with the savory burek. So lucky to get to come here.

Yelp
Dukagjini in Pelham Gardens has gotten a lot of buzz. And because I had heard great things about it, I wanted to try my hand at it too. This no-bells-and-whistles setting has wall plaques, indoor dining and a digital overhead menu listing nothing but bureks, their plain yogurt and coffee. For me, it's all about the greens- so picking up 2 Spinach Bureks to try, had to happen. Dukagjini bureks are pimped out with a nice amount of spinach+cheese and an overwhelming dose of onions. My mom especially- liked the combination of having that phyllo golden top and the burek's doughy bottom. Service was friendly and swift. But that flaky, phyllo, buttery sheen top for me- was everything.
google avatar

Yelp
Balkan / Eastern European speciality place bureks. As always the service and the food excellent. The burek are made freshly and are tasty; not saturated in fat and oils.
google avatar

Anik R.

Yelp
This place is where you go to for genuine bureks, the "Dukagjini" in the name of this restaurant is an area in Albania where the owner is from. There is no variety in their menu but that's actually the strength of this place. You can get in and out quickly faster than a typical order at your local deli while also having it hot and fresh as a result of them constantly creating burek pies for other customers and to portioning them out. The portion size is not something to be upset at despite it seeming small since it is caloric dense, making it extremely filling. With the only item made being the bureks, you do not have any other flavors masking the taste of it. Definitely a good place if you are commuting somewhere and this is on the way, as a local, or if you wanted a genuine burek.

Yelp
As longtime NYC'ers we opted to spend a different day of the July 4th break in a different borough. Stopping here part of our Bronx Day. Excellent, I had the meat she had the veggies and cheese. After eating we walked through the Botanical Gardens towards Arthur Avenue, where we shopped for Italian groceries to bring home.

Yelp
Crispy, delicate and balanced. Only bad thing about it is that at some point it's finished ...came from Mount Vernon just for this and my only regret is not having come sooner! Delicious and friendly service...
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely amazing burek! A beautifully flaky dough filled with flavorful fillings (I opted for a spinach and cheese, and a meat). The burek was so good I ended up taking home a pie as well! Staff is super friendly as well.

Yelp
My favorite place in the Bronx to get burek! It's always served hot and fresh. Crispy and flaky crust with delicious fillings. The ladies behind the counter are always super nice to me. This place is usually pretty busy and you can always see customers carrying out boxes and boxes of burek pies - because they are the best of the best!
google avatar

Delphine P.

Yelp
The burek here is always fresh out of the oven because they are so busy with customers. I often have to wait 20 or 30 minutes for them to make more, but it's worth it. I just go shopping or to the library or sit in the park and wait. The spinach burek is the absolute best. Crisp, savory, cheesy, and delicious. Hits the spot. The workers are all very nice and friendly. I see some customers getting the yogurt drink too and consume both the burek and the yogurt together. I'll try it next time. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Drove from Florida and I had the chance to try Dukagjini Burek. Super pie, delicious, like homemade burek! Loved it until last bite. And homemade albanian yogurt. Great service! Strongly recommend this to all my friends that luckily lives in this area.

Yelp
I never knew what a Burek was, and I'm grateful my first was from this establishment. The ladies are kind, the slices are huge (enough for a 2-person split), and the fillings are delightful. Always a smash dinner w. a salad. Cannot go wrong with any of their selections.

Yelp
The burek is amazing here, I always stop in every time I am in the Bronx. The staff is awesome and always nice.

Yelp
First time trying Burek and Dukagjini Burek was highly recommended. Definitely don't regret trying. Generous slices served warm.

Yelp
I had been dying to try this place for months and finally, after going for a run with my girlfriend I got a chance to stop by and bring home a take out Burek. I didn't want to get the cheese variety just because I was worried it would be too heavy so I opted for the meat flavour and bought a couple of single cheese burek slices to go as well. The dough is crispy and light on the outside and warm and flaky inside. There is a good filling to dough ratio and this is definitely to be considered a comfort food. It's filling and will make you feel warm and full, like visiting grandma and eating her food. I would definitely get more burek if/whem I'm in the area. They're located in my girlfriend's neighborhood so I'm nearby pretty often especially since it will get warmer soon and our runs will likely be more often. I think the best thing to do is to get a whole meat burek and supplement with a couple cheese and even spinach flavours for some variety.

Yelp
Places like Dukagjini Burek is one of the many reasons I love NYC. Where else can I find an awesome spot like this right in my backyard? I first discovered DB through one of my mother's colleagues. He's Albanian and when one of my brothers mentioned wanting to try authentic burek he directed us here. The menu is simple and no frills; they serve three varieties of burek (meat, cheese, and spinach), homemade yogurt, espresso, and cappuccino - that's it. Wanting to get the full burek experience, we picked up a slice of each variety to take home. The burek was really good, I'm a sucker for cheese so that was definitely my favorite - but really they were all great. The phyllo dough was flaky with the right amount of filling and full of flavor. I definitely want to return for more burek and try their yogurt. I'm glad I got to discover and enjoy something new and different - a winner all around!

Yelp
This has to be the best Burek place in the 5 boroughs. Best cheese pie in NYC. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Oh my god, catalog this under "most recent discovery". Don't tell this Albanian girl I know (Bora Durrsi), she already has enough of an ego. If you're lucky enough, you can catch the cashier pull the byrek from the oven, cut it into slices, and listen to the sweet crunch of the blade ripping into the flaky crust. *Moans* it's some real life audible porn. Menu's really simple: meat byrek, spinach byrek, cheese byrek, and yogurt. What meat? Good question. I thought it'd be funny to leave as a mystery but for the sake of prosperity, it's beef. My friend was under the impression that years ago, he had the spinach with cheese inside. It could be a deep seeded fantasy or they decided to separate the ingredients. No word yet on whether they can combine them, but that's the exact reason I need to come here again. I tried asking what the yogurt was for. The cashier was confused and then I was confused, then my friend was confused, and now everybody's confused. I put it on my byrek to accent the savory taste of beef, so whether or not I was supposed to do that, it was tasty. FOOD HAS NO RULES! Card minimum is $10 but she kindly charged me for less. But I'm gonna stick to the $10 minimum. For a filling slice at $4.50, I feel like I'm stealing from them, if they're paying a card fee. I can see byrek becoming a trend; it's that good. It's so simple and tasty. Why isn't this a thing yet? Ugh, I can't wait to go back.

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Got a slice of the spinach and cheese and could have gone back for a whole pie. Such a treat! And lovely staff. Will absolutely be back next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Yelp
The Burek here is filled with flavorful filling. The meat one is especially flavorful, and all wrapped up in a flaky, doughy phyllo shell. Yum. The whole pies look impressive and would be great to take to a party.
google avatar

Yelp
In and out with two slices cheese and two slices spinach in about 45 seconds. Fed two of us well, though it was plainly a cheat meal. Despite the presence of a vegetable, this isn't health food. Never had burek before; coulda used more salt and I wish the spinach layer were thicker (though the amount of cheese in the cheese slices seemed just right to me). The texture of burek itself is as you've probably read: like a puff pasty, but fewer layers. The cheese one was a bit doughier than the spinach one. Don't know if that's a bug or a feature. Both textures were good.

Yelp
Simply the best. I love ethnic food. Simple menu made by Albanians (family owned) and eaten by Albanians! I just trespass sometimes to eat it!!!! The golden standard that I have developed is that if an ethnic food is eaten by the same ethnicity then the owners are doing it right! I LOVE SPINACH AND BEEF BUREK. A burek is an Albanian stuffed pizza. Get a yogurt (freshly made) and eat it. Been there plenty of times, always left happy as their standard is maintained and clean. Small place and best if you eat your first Burek there and then take out. Can be eaten as a snack with tea coffee or as a meal. Get the whole pie or a slice is up to you. A pie is about medium pizza. Parking around the block is a challenge! Highly recommended ethnic food!

Yelp
I have walked past this place 5,000 times and never went in because it seemed *too* simple. Finally a new friend told me that this was his favorite restaurant in the neighborhood so we went for lunch today and WHOA. It is super no frills, there is quite the language barrier and there is one solitary table for two outside (that we were lucky enough to get on this beautiful day). That said, the burek was outstanding - and I'd never burek before. I will definitely be going back!
google avatar

Julianne M.

Yelp
Incredible food! So much (you really only need one slice), for such a great price. This was my first time having burek, sampled the cheese and the spinach, my husband also had the meat. All were fantastic. Similar to a Greek spanakopita, which makes sense due to the Balkan commonality, but I liked this even better. The dough has a bit more of a chew to it, while still being endlessly flaky. Fillings were fresh and the slices came out H O T !!!! Fast & casual with a few seats, the vibe of an Albanian pizza shop. Service was warm and the environment was inviting. Loved hearing customers speaking Albanian. Parking is troublesome, but circling around is worth the effort!

Yelp
I love New York because of random places like this. Wondering around the Bronx, I thought I would be getting some pizza, some Puerto Rican food, maybe some tacos, but nope, I found this super authentic Burek spot. You can argue all day if the burek is Albanian, Turkish, or from another European country. But there is no argument that these are delicious. I enjoyed one meat slice and it was just what I needed. Some meat and hand made dough, that was super crispy on top and soft on the inside to perfection. The offer a few other options of the burek and yogurt. This made my day.

Nick T.

Yelp
I'm so thankful we have this Albanian restaurant near, reminds me of home. I've been coming here since I was kid and they never disappoint. My fav is cheese and meat burek but spinach is great too. The staff are always warm and welcoming. I can't say enough good things about this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Usually when I visit my best friend in the Bronx, I like to take that opportunity and see what the Bronx has to offer back! With the help of Yelp, I decided to stop here for lunch and try one of their famous Burek ($4). I opted for their meat instead of the other two choices, which is either their cheese or spinach. Initially I thought their Burek was a bit too pricey but once I had it, I realize for one Burek, it really does it's job and it felt like a meal. The meat (wish there was more) was very flavorful and I enjoy the crunchy dough outside and the softness inside. My best friend (we shared) also had some and thought it was very delicious. I would definitely come back here again and let's say I would recommend it to anyone that lives near by the neighbor. Their Burek was certainly fresh and delicious. As far as decor goes, this place is a hole in a wall but honestly who really cares.

Yelp
Don't worry about Drive-bys in The Bronx. Especially not if the Direct TV Genie is the person driving by. I mean, firstly, if you're going to get shot, it's better to get shot by her. No? And secondly, this place has you covered. Whenever she drives by to shoot at you, the owners will scream "Duck! A Genie!" Which is why the name of the place is, of course... "Duckagenie Burek." What to get: Meat Burek What else: Hannah Davis is a hottie There is a Bosnian restaurant in Buffalo, NY named Balkan Dining which is by far the best Slavic food I've ever eaten in my life. It's off-the-charts good, it's a 6/5 rating. There's only one other Slavic place in the country that compares to that, and I've tried plenty. It's here, at Duckagenie, where they make the most delicious, steaming, hot, meaty, juicy, orgasmic Burek you will ever put in your mouth. If you've never had Bosnian meat in your mouth before, and never felt Bosnian meat juice going down your throat, it's time to break you in, at Duckagenie. The Burek is like a huge wedge of pizza but with the Greek-style dough instead of Pizza dough, and with all kinds of cheese and oil and onions and potatoes and meat goodness on the inside. It'll burn your mouth if you try and eat it within the first 5 mins of its arrival. I love that NYC knows how to do "hot food" instead of "lukewarm food". At least in this part of the Bronx they do. And it's dirt cheap, and incomparably delicious. It's so good, it's worth making a pilgrimage to the Bronx for (along with Gyro King, Greek Express, S & S Cheesecake, El Atoradero for Mexican, and Louie & Ernie's Pizza). So if you thought that Pelham was only famous for Denzel Washington's sausage, in that movie where he pulls a train, then think again, because Pelham is now the capital of hot juicy Bosnian meat. It's a crime that this place doesn't have hundreds of reviews yet. Come and taste this Burek, and tell me it's not one of the most delicious things you could ever put in your mouth in The Bronx, baby.

Yelp
I'm giving them a two stars only because the burek was decent. Nothing special to say the least. Being from Eastern Europe I was excited to give them a try. Service is terrible the lady taking the order was nothing short of rude. When I asked for the menu she kept pointing to a TV that was turned off and was annoyed at the fact that I asked to see the menu. She finally said that they only have cheese, spinach and meat, however the cheese was already being held for somebody else. She then proceeded to say I can only have one piece and made it seem like it was an inconvenience that I even wanted to order the cheese. Being a paying customer I just don't understand why I was treated so rudely. Definitely will not come back and would not recommend based on the service alone.
google avatar

Alexandra D.

Yelp
Rude. I walked in after seeing great reviews ... I'm a super foodie so I'm always interested in trying new foods. I walked in and the woman in the counter looked at me, and proceeded to help everyone else behind me. And even others that walked in, I waited a few moments and she still didn't acknowledge me. So I walked out... I'm a black woman and I don't play the race card but this is the only thing that's different between me and the rest of the customers.

Yelp
Mmmm! These boreks are delicious! I tried the spinach and the cheese boreks. I enjoyed the spinach one a little bit more. The boreks were warm and fresh and only $4.50 each. The ladies serving them were also very sweet I would definitely come back to try the meat flavor if I was in the area.
google avatar

Htez W.

Yelp
Giving a generous 4/5 stars. Called to ask if it was halal so the lady answers "idk, are we?"-- thought that was pretty funny 20 mins later we received the most majestic and blistering hot cheese and spinach pie/bureg in the entire world. The boys and I enjoy spicy food so when my friend asked the lady for some peppers or hot sauce she stared him down :-) Sad to say the bureg lacked A LOT of flavor. There was barely any salt let alone any seasoning. I give it a 4/5 because it is flaky and made with red-hot love! #BYOHS
google avatar

Mel G.

Yelp
Man-o-man, this place is good. For $4.50, you can enjoy a cheese, spinach, or meat burek, and it is incredibly flaky, doughy, delicious and comforting. Yum. I opted to try the cheese one on my first time and it was piping hot and a generous portion. There are maybe 5-6 tables to sit at--a number of people were there hanging out, and a number got theirs to go. Can't wait to go back and try the other varieties!

Yelp
We had the meat Burek and the spinach Burek last weekend. Both were really tasty. The. meat Burek just came out of the oven and it was just perfectly baked. The meat was tender, full of ground pepper and onions, it was very crispy, very tasty. I would recommend this place! Service was just ok.
google avatar

Yelp
Something special from the balakans- either spinach, cheese or ground beef- amazing taste and a good alternative to pizza- be careful super hot out of the oven.

Yelp
The BEST burek in USA period! Been coming here over 20 years and they NEVER disappoint ! Love it

Yelp
THE BEST BUREK IN NYC! This a is a family owned and operated establishment located in the heart of a Bronx community. This place has been around for many years/decades. They are very positively involved with neighborhood functions. I have been coming here since I was a kid.

Yelp
Sometimes I see myself as the guy in that soup commercial who says, "Ok", in response to the excited woman on the other end of the phone line exulting: "it fits!" Ok. Yup. That's it. Just: Ok. I read the glowing yelp reviews for Dukagjini Burek enthusiastically, including one that notes: we were all welcomed into the big Albanian family. I probably am missing some warm, fuzzy genes, but I felt no such love. I entered the restaurant. Informed the lady about my order. Was told that there was no slice of the Meat Burek available (a customer was offered one five minutes after me!). Was given two room temperature slices: one each of the spinach and cheese pies ($4 each). These were placed on paper plates into a brown bag without asking me whether I wanted to sit down and eat. All the while the lady managing the shop, and the oven, spoke on the phone that rang every few seconds - with yet another order. So, yes: they are popular, extremely busy. Churn out lots of pies that sell out soon. Are probably very good at what they do.... But, spare me the Disney movie and the pixie dust! It wasn't that I expected an earth shattering experience, after traveling for more than an hour to reach the Pelham Parkway location. I did expect quality, though. I don't think getting a soggy, room temperature slice meets that definition. To be fair the pie was still in the container that was placed in the oven, and may well have been hot once. But, moisture condensation had killed any of the noted flakiness. I didn't finish that slice. It would've been unnecessary calories. But, just when I was debating a "Meh, I've had better" rating, I was surprised that despite the lack of flakiness, or warmth, the spinach pie (with a little feta cheese and onions) was very tasteful. I might even have described it as delicious, had it been just a notch warmer from room temperature. Another aspect warranting their acclaim was the lack of greasiness that typifies Bureks in other cuisines. Given the accolades that adorn the walls from dozens of magazines, I expect that my experience wasn't typical. As a practice, and to be balanced, I don't review before multiple visits. But, in this case I will make the exception to make a point: it's not unlikely to be an outlier to the great experiences, should you receive the last slice of a cold pie. Then again, it's probably me. (2.5 stars, rounded up).

Yelp
It might be too early to say 2011 was a great year, but being invited into the kitchen of an Albanian mother and daughter cooking burek is a pretty good way to start. In between a small photo studio and halal meat shop on Lydig Avenue in the Bronxdale neighborhood (of the Bronx), Dukagjini is owned by an Albanian Kosovar but operated by two lovely Albanian women who obviously know all their customers and produce some fine burek. Balkans double park their cars outside and run in for a slice. The walls and windows are covered with posters advertising various events going on in the community. There is a painting of the owner's restaurant (also called Dukagjini) in Kosovo. Everything just speaks of it being a hub for the area's Albanian residents. On a recent visit, I finished my burek and espresso and got enough nerve to ask if I could take a photo of the women at the counter. This opened the floodgates of hospitality, the door swung open and I was allowed to step into the kitchen to meet mom and see the preparations of uncooked burek. Mom was lovely, greased up to her elbows making the dough and happy to show off her creations. Her daughter (see kitchen photos on blog, didn't want to put their photos on Yelp) was equally proud and gave me a look into the oven full of all varieties available. Before all this went down, I was able to enjoy a lovely meat slice, a cup of the freshest yogurt ($1.50) you will ever try, and a small espresso ($2). The menu is limited to these three things, although you do have the choice of meat, cheese, or spinach for your burek, all of which are $4. The flaky goodness of a burek is common to all countries that make them, but an Albanian version is somehow less greasy. The meat is good, the cheesy slices have more cheese, and the spinach slices seem to be infused with dill. There are only five tables here, but it seems like most people take their food and run so it is easy to get a seat. It's fun to sit back with your food and drink and watch people come in and out. The Bronx has something very special here at Dukagjini.

Yelp
They accept credit cards it seems now. It took a bit longer with the credit card for the transaction to go through but I don't mind. Though I did buy two slices for 9 because why not (I could take half of each for a good lunch) and so I could try both of the flavors I wanted to. It might look like a pizza place (especially with them giving full bureks in a pizza box,) but this place dishes out bureks. Bureks are giant filo dough pastries filled with your choice of meat (lamb/onion/pepper,) spinach (with a little cheese,) or some other type of cheese solely. I got the lamb one and the spinach one. The spinach reminded me a bit of spanikopita but with a more buttery shell instead of a flaky one. It was tasty though I felt it needed a bit more sourness though I have found the same in other Albanian places (sorry i prefer the Greek style, though with this type of crust.) The lamb one was much better. It almost reminds me of Samsa but lighter. The dough was also very soft and the meat was slightly fatty with some good pepper and onion taste (maybe a bit too much pepper.) The woman was nice and the food was good. Good option in the area along with EZ Cafe for anything not Burek.

Yelp
Okay---First of all, the correct name of this place is Dukagjini Burektorja. In fact, when I first entered it that way, Yelp claimed to not ever have heard of it. Good thing I then did some googling because only then did the Yelp listing come up! Had I not done that, Yelp would have ended up with 2 different listings for this place. And now, mini-rant over! Half Albanian, all-American mutt that I am, I just had to try this place. I grew up eating burek but my family called it "lakror". My grandmother and great-aunt (her older sister) used to make this from scratch without using a recipe (a handful of this, a pinch of that). I used to watch fascinated as they rolled out the phyllo dough so thinly that hung over the sides of their dinner tables that were large enough to seat 6! And spinach lakror was always what my brothers and I requested when they said they would make some. So...how did Dukagjini measure up to Grandma and Great Aunt's? Well...the phyllo dough was perfect. There's nothing like fresh phyllo in terms of flavor and flakiness. I make lakror now---using a recipe but also using boxed phyllo and yes, the boxed stuff just doesn't compare. However, Dukagjini's filling was just *meh*. One bite into it and my husband said "I like yours much better." (Awwww!). Don't get me wrong---Dukagjini's is decent. We didn't get one fresh baked right from the oven, rather it was right from the warming oven. It would have been nice to have one freshly made to see if that made a difference. It's a cheap meal, to be sure. With a slice of burek each and 2 soft drinks, the total cost was $11. The dining area is small as most of their business is take-out. And, yes, people do double park and run in for their bureks. As for us --- We won't make the trek up to the Bronx again just for this. Still, if you go, the folks there are nice. The older lady (I take it she is the mother) doesn't have the best command of English. I tried to engage her in conversation about her bureks but I don't think she understood as she just smiled. It would have been nice to chat, however...

Yelp
Wonderful cup of coffee, welcoming and educated staff. Dukagjini Burek was exactly as the reviews state - what you read is what you get. Unique flavor combinations. And staff is always friendly. Very nice people.

Yelp
We got the meat burek & the cheese burek. Both were really good. The meat inside the meat burek is flavorful, not dry like some other meat burek that we've tried in the past. The service was good. The lady who was behind the counter was friendly & polite. The place is small with just few tables. $4 for each burek Highly recommended!
