Yelp
Mid food, high prices, ok portion sizes (on protein) but good service. Dulan's is crazy overhyped and to be honest you're better off going to Soul Food Shack down the street. Service was friendly, and food came out fast despite waiting 20min in line to order. I paid $20 for a meatloaf plate and a choice of cornbread and two sides, so I picked mac and cheese and cornbread dressing. The cornbread dressing had great flavor and the gravy was delicious, however the texture was literally like baby food (as someone wrote in another review), which was odd because the cornbread dressings I've had at other soul food spots have a great variety of texture rather than mush. The mac and cheese was not that good, it wasn't necessarily bad, but the noodles were definitely overcooked and the sauce was really similar to velveeta. It had texture but also no flavor at the same time, and I feel like mac and cheese is a strong telling of whether the rest of the food is good or not. Meatloaf was disappointingly small in size, although the picture I added was already bitten through, trust me when I say that protein portion was small as hell. The tomato sauce on top tasted like canned tomato soup and IMO didn't compliment the meatloaf very well. I will say the meatloaf had decent texture and flavor though. Cornbread was delicious, great taste and texture- was probably the best thing out of my order. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it was a miss. It sucks that all the lower rated reviews have highlighted the same issues (quality of food, texture, mac and cheese) but unfortunately there was no improvement because I ended up having the same experience with their food. $20 is crazy for a palm sized amount of meat, velveeta mac, and mushy cornbread dressing WITHOUT a drink. Not an ideal representation of how soul food is. Wouldn't come back or recommend to anyone.
