"Family-owned Dumpling Depot is known for its assortment of hand-made dumplings, including soup dumplings and wontons. The restaurant’s most popular items mirror some of the most common dumpling fillings in Chinese tradition — pork and cabbage dumplings and pork, shrimp, and chive dumplings. Customers also love the Shanghai soup dumplings, and kids tend to gravitate toward the chicken dumplings with corn, as they have a mellower, slightly sweet flavor. The owners are local dumpling connoisseurs who began cranking out dumplings in San Francisco 20 years ago and have since expanded to the South Bay Area. In fact, they also own Epic Dumpling, another restaurant with the same menu offerings in Sunnyvale." - Cathy Park

This place may look like a hole in the wall, but it serves fabulous dumplings and Chinese dishes. You just cannot go wrong with any of their dumplings, potstickers and hot-n-sour soup (generous portion). After every visit, I decide that next time I will try out their other dishes. Unfortunately I cannot go past their dumplings.😊

Google
The food was yummy, especially the chow main- think yakisoba flavor. The green beans were excellent, and our lamb dumplings tasty. Shrimp and chicken were good. Loved that they had veg in them. They were tasty but needed garlic, ginger, chili sauce to make them excellent. That being said, we will be back.

Google
High expectations for this place and I was not disappointed. The braised beef roll is exceptional. The dumplings are great, especially the lamb and chives. Spicy eggplant was good but I thought it came with tofu? So many things on the menu look good, next time I'll get fried rice, a noodle dish, salt and pepper fish, mapo tofu and green beans. Highly recommend!

Total Score: 6.50 Bathroom: N/A Didn’t use bathroom Customer Service: 3.5/5 Nice and friendly and refilled waters Ambiance: 1/5 Saw a cockroach around the cold drinks refrigerator 🪳🪳🪳 Food: 4.25/5 Very good comfort food! Wished the skin was thicker on the 水饺 and the wrap was flatter in the 牛肉包饼. Wow: 0.5/1 Great classic Chinese food and great for quick and cheap bites There was an old white couple beside us and def were out of place but I appreciate them coming out of their comfort zone and trying new things. Total Score = (CS + 2*AM + 5*FOOD + WOW)/0.9

Google
The real deal, dumplings were fantastic! I love finding cool Chinese restaurants that have an authentic feeling.

Helen M

Google
Their XLB is decent. Kiddo liked the combination chow mien, but the portion is on the smaller size. The Pork dumpling with chive was decent.

Matthew Kinnamon

Google
Classic hole-in-the-wall Chinese food restaurant. It’s all about the dumplings (obviously) and they are delicious! Hand-made—including the skin— same day, and the lamb filled ones are superb! The crab and pork soup dumplings were delicious! You won’t find anything quite like this in the local valley area. The tables and look are very simplistic, and the parking lot is small, but you aren’t going here for fancy trivial details. If amazing dumplings are your goal, this is the place for you!

Google
Typical Asian small family shop atmosphere, took me right back to my childhood in the early 70's. Food was terrific, I'm not Chinese so I can't speak to the authenticity, but the flavors and textures were great. We got the marinated beef pancake, green chive pancake, pea sprouts and garlic, and the crab and pork soup dumplings. All four items were a first time try for us and we thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The only caveat would be the Shanghai Crab Meat & Pork Soup Dumplings, we couldn't taste any crab. So I would order the Shanghai Pork Soup Dumpling and save $3. The diet Coke and Thai iced tea were amazing! We are not from the area but w ould definitely go again and recommend to others.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a weekday and I thought it was alright, but wouldn't go out of my way to come here. The best thing that I had on the menu was the beef pancake. The XLB had no flavor and tasted like a normal dumpling which also didn't come with ginger but they did have the sauces on the table and the braised beef noodle soup was okay. I like how they serve you tea right away rather than having to ask for it after they bring around water. ~~Parking: Located at the end of a strip mall, but the rest of the strip mall seems pretty dead so I doubt you'd ever have issues finding parking. ~~Service: Okay. You're allowed to choose your own seat depending on how many people are in your party, you order on your phone using the QR code at your table, they bring you the food, and then they just come around when you pay but they don't give you a receipt. ~~Worst Part: How cold it was inside the restaurant. Seemed like the windows were single-pane and they didn't seem to have the heat on so bring a thick jacket if you're coming here when it's cold. ~~Tips: If you're going to come here, get the beef pancake. ~~Return: I would pick up the beef pancake to go.

Yelp
Tiny little hole-in-the-wall just outside of downtown Sunnyvale. Though I live nearby, I hadn't heard of it until a Yelp recommendation. So I ordered a small variety of things in takeout. All except the steamed rice came in well-sealed plastic containers instead of the usual leaky cardboard boxes. The dumplings: soft, steamed, very thick and plain flour, so they're best eaten with a generous dollop of the hot sauce that comes with. But the filling is substantial and tastes of the meat it is. I also tried one stir-fry dish, a beef with scallions that was also soft, plain, but tasty, and chicken winglets with cumin, which were very lightly fried, quite tasty though not of cumin. As neighborhood convenience Chinese it was quite satisfactory.

Julie S.

Yelp
My husband and I tried out Dumpling Depot. We tried an assortment of dishes- everything was good. The green onion pancake was my favorite- really crispy, good flavor, generous portion. The stir- fry pea sprouts as well as the stir fry noodles had great flavor. The Xiao long bao juicy. Service was efficient and good.

Doug C.

Yelp
Freshly made dumplings. Not pot stickers, not wonton. They are sealed on both sides and made with a finely milled flour similar to 00 pizza flour. This produces a tender bite which you can't replicate at home with normal AP flour. Can't get the tender texture from a frozen costco product and until recently no restaurants made this type of northern chinese dumpling This restaurant was the first to introduce authentic freshly made dumplings to sunnyvale 10+ years ago. There are now many dumpling restaurants. There are some mega owners who have multiple outlets under different names and some chains from China w stores here aside from DTF. They sell Chinese salads like celery/black fungus in a light oil, chinese black vinegar sauce. Like a Chinese version of a balsamic vinagrette. No added sugar. Traditionally raw salads aren't a part of Chinese cuisine unlike western cuisine. Use of human feces on farms for fertilizer prevented adoption of raw salads as health measure. Celery and black fungus are blanched. Self order on cell phone. Can hear the beep once the order is placed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emmv1KxP7kE

Yelp
Solid, no frills, affordable. This is a hole-in-the-wall dumpling shop but surprisingly still has plenty of seating and good service. The food comes out pretty fast and hot! I really like their beef noodle soup. It's good and consistent. They are slightly cheaper than nearby Top Dumpling.

Eva L.

Yelp
Example of a why you shouldn't underestimate a hole in the wall restaurant. 4 stars for the food. Small divey vibe but good chili wonton, aka on their menu as also Sichuan Spicy Pork and Shrimp Wonton. Reasonable price for $11.95 for 12 wontons per order. Chili oil sauce is not overly spicy, just a little kick to add flavor. The wonton skin was in good proportion to the filling, thin enough that it's not doughy. The filling was good; you can taste the pork and its seasoning vs fillers. The Crab and Pork XLB definitely used real crab meat. Strong crab flavor that you notice the crab taste at first bite. The soup in the dumpling was just ok. Same as the wonton, good filling to wrapping ratio. Dumpling was not too doughy. This cost more at 6 pieces for $9.95. Good place for vegetarians. The Vegetarian Dumplings was the surprise. No meat but really tasty, so good. Vegetable chow mein had well seasoned noodles; soy flavor and had the smoky taste of wok hei. The dining area can use some sprucing up or scrubbing to brighten the small place and bring in some light. Great for to go orders. Quick service.

Cindy L.

Yelp
蟹粉小笼包 2 no soup, already broken 牛肉馅饼 3 not enough beef, flour too thick 芹菜猪肉水饺 3 thick skin, not flavorful 拌耳丝 3 pig ears, slightly stinky

Hannah T.

Yelp
10.26.2024. Yummy cheap chinese food. Xiao long bao. dumplings. chive pockets. tantan noodle. Tan tan noodle was a bit weird. Kinda tasted like pasta. But dumplings and xiao long bao were YUM. Chive pockets were nicely crispy and so full of flavor. Very full after lunch.

Ya Y.

Yelp
My friend introduced me to this local dumpling shop, and we visited together. The restaurant space was small but offered quite a few options. We ordered dumplings with two different fillings: one with lamb and the other with pork and chives. Their pork shrimp wonton with chili oil was very flavorful. I also really enjoyed their beef pancake roll; the pancake was crunchy, and the beef was tender. The salt & pepper tofu was crispy and well-seasoned -- a very comforting meal! Their price was reasonable too~

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Found this place via Yelp. Hits the spot, a little stuffy inside but the wontons and baos we got were all enjoyable. Would come back again! Also check in on yelp gets 10% off !

Himadri G.

Yelp
Food was good, I did come a bit late and they were more than kind to serve us. The dumplings and potstickers have the same vegetarian filling - I felt that I liked the crispy texture of the potstickers more and would go for those again. The spicy eggplant was quite yummy, the sauce was a tad sour but would get again! I also opted for Dan Dan noodles, they were interesting! I did really like them and felt that they were refreshing - but also that they were different to other Dan Dan noodles I've had in the past. I'm beginning to think I've never had the OG taste The place is super casual, service is quick and you order through your phone. I would come back to get my dim sum and dumpling fix but it wasn't extravagant - it was good and I do miss it! I believe you could get consistency here.

Phong T.

Yelp
Solid dumpling spot. V mom & pop feel--a decent amount of seating. Service was quick and efficient. Friendly staff. The dining area isn't big so it gets crowded if the restaurant is busy. There's a private parking lot. FOOD -Green Onion Pancake -Shanghai Soup Dumplings (crab & pork meat) -Xi An Cold Noodle -Spicy Beef Tendon -Lamb Dumplings Plentiful portion for all of the dishes ordered. I'd say a good bang for your buck. Everything tasted OKAY. Some dishes tasted better than others. Not anything amazing.

Marie L.

Yelp
Hole in the wall. Found this place thru Yelp and been wanting to try a local business for dumplings. We were craving some authentic dim sum style food. We came for dinner and it wasn't crowded at all. Small place. Parking is a challenge tho. Anyway, got seated right away. Decided to order some of the dumplings, Mongolian beef and string beans. Oh and some spicy wontons. Forgot to take pics of them: Mongolian beef was a bit salty, but manageable. I loved the dumplings! Super tasty and filling. Would come back here to try the rest of the food, but overall it's good here. Support your local business!

Marissa F.

Yelp
Referred by an online list of best dumplings in the South Bay, this place is WAY better than its modest location and interior would suggest. Amazingly flavorful beef noodle soup, tender and creamy eggplant, and juicy dumplings with the perfect thickness of skin. Definitely come ready to eat and eat and eat (and eat).

Juan C.

Yelp
The food was good, however the lady working at the restaurant demanded a tip even though we ordered online and had no service. Especially telling me asking "no tip, why" and demanded a cash tip afterwards. I suggest ordering to go preventing a similar incident occurring.

Karen J.

Yelp
The pork dumplings here are so delicious and juicy. Each one is packed with so much flavor. Highly Recommend

Christina W.

Yelp
Very authentic Asian food and good prices. Lots of variety of dumplings and baos. No area to sit down so good for to go orders. They have both fresh and frozen section

Miranda J.

Yelp
I dream of these dumplings I swear. SO SO SO GOOD. Best dumplings I've ever had, so pleased

Huey N.

Yelp
I picked up a couple things to go. The pork and chive dumplings were solid. I meant to order beef stew and tendon noodle soup but I got only tendon. That was most likely my fault because I wasn't clear over the phone. It was nice having a bunch of tendon chunks anyways. The broth had a good amount of flavor while not feeling heavy or rich. I'm wasn't sure if they have a spicy version of the soup with tendon so I added some chili into the soup myself.

R H.

Yelp
OMG, food was amazing, you must have the Marinated Beef Pancake Roll, this is the reason why we come back! The garlic bok choy and Shanghai Pork Soup Dumpling was soooo good, thank you for the amazing food, you can tell there was so much love put into it !!!

Cicily E.

Yelp
I don't know what to rate these folks, but do you see how much food they give you with such little sauce. This is a common occurrence. Notice I say common, because the taste of the food keeps us going back. If you ask for more, they give you just one "extra" sauce container. Imma give them a 3 because you can't really enjoy it like you like with such little sauce.

PeiJen C.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on the Christmas Day So appreciate that they are open for the holidays. I love their fish and Chives dumplings and walnuts shrimp. Very friendly customer service. You won't regret it

Aswad K.

Yelp
Fast service, fresh hot food. We got spring onion pancakes, 7-8 types of dumplings, potstickers, pork and green beans, combination fried rice and everything came out super fast and was delicious. This place is no non sense, order food, get delicious food, you eat and walk out place. If you want ambience and the staff asking you every 5 min how you are doing- go have come to the wrong place!

Shirley L.

Yelp
i love dumpling depot bro. the price is great and the food is great. service is very simplified and you can order on your phone. introvert's paradise honestly.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Small restaurant with fluorescent lighting and looks a bit sad both in and out. Ordered a chow mein and chow fun noodle dishes and they both super oily and basically were the flavor ie soy sauce. Portion size was also very small.

Daisy G.

Yelp
This is my go to Chinese eatery in Sunnyvale. I usually get a noodle, veggie, and dumpling plate. All dumplings that I've tried are amazing and fresh here. The bok choy is my favorite to get here, the cucumber salad is delicious too! Dan Dan noodles are a must, unless I'm feeling something soupy. The potstickers were also pretty good. This restaurant has my favorite hot sauce. Tangy and a good spice level. We always get seated right away, sometimes it can get busy but there's always available seating quickly. The servers are quick and very attentive to their customers. Definitely love coming here for a quick meal. The restaurant cleanliness is what you'd expect when you go to a Chinese place that's cheap and delicious. This whole meal costed 46.70$ for four plates. With a Yelp check in discount of 10%. Dumpling depot is a must try!

Kaycee K.

Yelp
Got there right at opening and we were the first ones there- good thing we did because at 6 pm the parking lot was so crowded! No physical menu,l- just scan a QR code and everyone can start ordering and adding dishes to the order! Got the following: - scallion pancake- good and crispy, would order again - marinated beef scallion pancake roll- the meat was tender and flavorful and had little pieces of julienned cucumber. Would definitely order again! - beef stew noodle soup- big chunks of tender beef, chewy noodles, crunchy pickles and a slightly spicy and rich beefy broth. Would definitely order again! - pork and cabbage dumplings- they were juicy and pretty good- I still prefer gyoza style dumplings haha. Would order another dumpling to try something new next time. - bacon and basil fried rice- tasty! Love the fresh basil pieces in it. Would order again. I do wish they had bacon and pineapple fried rice! - sautéed pea sprouts- tender, flavorful and garlicky! Would definitely order again! Would definitely order take out from here- not sure I would want to eat in house again- the ambiance just isn't very pretty haha. But the food is good!

Kevinator. T.

Yelp
No wait (Monday evening) and fast service once seated. Garlic String Beans and Pork Dumplings with Chive were so good. Dan Dan noodles were tasty and portions were huge.

Rick W.

Yelp
Food was fine. Not great, but good. Service was terrible. Walked in. Ordered Fried Rice and dumplings. 25 minutes later I get dumplings. I never ordered (she did not pay attention) and was not charged for rice. I left very unhappy.

Scott L.

Yelp
DD is a family owned restaurant in a small strip mall. It's a no frills place that you go to for the food and not the decor or service. Recommend: - XLB which come six to an order, the skins are not too thick while also not breaking when you pick them up at the top with a chopstick, sufficient soup with a decent portion of meat and taste - Beef Noodle Soup with Pickled Vegetables with plenty of beef, noodles and contrasting pickled vegetables (collard greens?). The pickled greens has a tanginess that complements the saltiness of the meat and soup. - Marinated Beef Rolls which did not require a dipping sauce like other places. The beef was tender and marinated while the exterior roll was crispy. - Lamb and Napa Cabbage Dumplings which were tasty and not gamey. Overall, a good place for affordable, quick and tasty eats.

Quyen H.

Yelp
Lots of dumpling options here. We tried the soup dumping, pork and chives dumpling, fried stuffed pancakes with chives and eggs, beef noodle soup and shrimp and pork dumpling in chili sauce. Pork and chives dumpling are great. The texture of the dough is just right and the filling is juicy. Would recommend this one. Soup dumpling - I'm on the fence. I think it's good but the dough is really soft here which is surprising compared to the other dumplings. Beef noodle soup - it's good but I've had better. Noodles are on the softer side if you like that. Lots of beef and a giant portion if you do order though. Last two items I would skip. Presentation looks nice but I felt the flavor was lacking. I would put your money into this boiled dumplings instead! Those are addicting. Check in for 10%. Pay in cash for 5% off.

Harsha R.

Yelp
Dumplings dough was quite thick and doughy. Chicken fried rice didn't have too much flavor. Service was slow seems like there was only one person managing all tables. Ambiance is basic and small.

Christina L.

Yelp
Average-looking restaurant with average food and service. Good for a nearby quick bite, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. The dumplings and xiao long baos were good flavor and wrapping was perfectly cooked - not too soft or hard. Spicy beef tendon soup definitely had a kick. It was a little too heavy, the broth was not great. It's also a self-order restaurant - you scan a QR code and order what you want. Servers were attentive enough when we needed something, which I don't mind at all. If you're looking for a quick bite and don't mind service quality, this is a nice spot.

Brandon T.

Yelp
It's quick, doesn't break the bank, and is filling. I came by with a group of 4 for lunch on a Saturday and didn't find it too busy which was a relief. We ended up ordering a few dishes such as the Xiao Long Bao, Scallion pancake, Dan Dan noodles, and string beans. We enjoyed everything but were surprised with how the Dan Dan noodles came out, maybe I have limited experience with DD noodles but the noodles were thicker, and the dish was more "saucey" than expected. Definitely different from what I have had before but not bad. One disappointment was how they had chili oil but it didn't have any of the chili seeds/flakes in it that bring texture/flavor to it. Additionally, it wasn't spicy. I'm not sure if I would come back considering the plethora of similar restaurants in the area.

Caili C.

Yelp
This is a great hole-in-the-wall spot! Good dumplings and noodles for a fantastic price in the area. We came for a quick lunch and ordered the marinated beef roll, xiao long bao, lamb and napa dumplings and beef stew and tendon noodle soup to share between 2 people. We loved the beef roll which came with nice slices of marinated beef and pickled cucumbers giving it a great crunch. Even better the pancake was perfectly crispy and it felt substantial (comes with 4 pieces) without being too heavy. The lamb and napa dumplings were also great with a nice juice lamb center. We also did see people come in to order frozen dumplings to bring home. The portion sizes are large and everything would be good for sharing including the beef noodle soup. Definitely will come back for a simple lunch. Our meal came under $50 for the amount of food, we were definitely full.

Mae L.

Yelp
Very cute, kinda hole in the wall place. The menu has a lot of variety so even if you don't go for the dumplings theres something for everyone. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. As soon as you're seated they have a QR code to scan and order. I highly recommend the Szechuan pork and shrimp wontons. We also tried the garlic green beans and the general tsos chicken. 10/10 recommend. They also sell frozen dumplings and wontons to take home

Sharon P.

Yelp
One of the best dumplings in the Bay Area. They have way more veggie options than many other places. The staff is really good and keeps the pace moving even though they are swamped most of the time. They also have great prices on frozen dumplings. Really recommend to dumpling lovers.

Honora M.

Yelp
A variety of excellent dumplings in this low-key hidden gem of a restaurant. I have also had great Three cups Chicken here too.

Megan K.

Yelp
Delicious dumplings served in a no grilled environment. This hidden gem is tucked away in a small strip mall in Sunnyvale. The decor is very basic and the location is small. There was one server covering the whole location on a Friday lunch time around 12:20pm. However, we will able to get our food relatively quickly. We tried serval things but the classic pork/chive was the best! Soup dumplings were also very flavorful and cooked perfectly. Pricing is very reasonable as the 4 of us ate a lot of food for $70!

Nat T.

Yelp
Fantastic. Great choice for carnivores and vegetarians and vegans. The highlights of our visit were the Green Chive Dumpling with Egg, the Green Onion Pancake, the Vegetable Chow Mein. The "vegetarian" Dumpling was also good, as was the Vegetarian Potsticker and the vegetarian Spring Roll. I'll bet there were a pile more awesome dishes that we didn't have stomach space to order and eat. We will be back. Fantastic.

Jack T.

Yelp
I've had take-out a few times from this restaurant and the dumplings are really good. They also stand up to being reheated over the next few days. Not sure if it is my favorite but in this area, I think you get what you pay for in terms of the take-out pricing and quality.

Momto2 S.

Yelp
The food is okayish, not great. We had chicken and chive dumplings, orange chicken, and green onion pancakes. The dumplings were ok - not really flavorful - but passable. The orange chicken was terrible - tiny portion for the price and really goopy overly sweet sauce with tough chicken inside. The pancakes were flavorful and pretty good, but greasy. I definitely would not go back to spend that much for this quality.

Ang V.

Yelp
Keep in mind the hours because they do close in between lunch and dinner. Came for lunch and the food was okay. I ordered the combination fried rice, beef stew noodle soup, pork and chive dumplings and the soup dumplings (XLB). The pork and chive dumpling was probably the best, given the name of this place. There were several inedible meat pieces in the beef noodle soup, there was hard rice in our fried rice, and not a lot of soup in the soup dumpling. I feel like they used few days old rice. Disappointing in taste. Really tiny hole in the wall place. Maybe I should've ordered other items from the menu that sounded promising because the food I ordered today was average. Nothing special.

Annie C.

Yelp
We did dine-in here as a group of 4 on a weekend lunch. Parking was easy and there was no wait. We were trying to use the QR code to order but ended up having to go through the server anyway. Dumplings came out fast and they were good. Nothing wildly amazing, but definitely decent value for the price. Solid place overall--I'd come back!

Audrey ..

Yelp
Been wanting to try the food after reading reviews Arrived 8pm Tuesday and found parking right in front -no wait and food came quickly in 10 minutes Beef combo & tendon noodle soup had rich broth with pickled veggie and peppers but mostly tendon The pork cabbage dumpling had good amount of filling

Katie V.

Yelp
Average at best dumplings the beef and onion pancake was the only good thing I ordered.

Winnie L.

Yelp
Pro-tip: Check the hours - they take a break between lunch and dinner. Highlights: Albeit named Dumpling Depot, I actually thought their best items were the Marinated Beef Pancake Roll for the flavor of the beef and the perfect crispy and chewy texture of the pancake and the Braised Beef Noodle Soups for the generous portion of beef and strong beefy flavor. It's very affordable as well. Lowlights: I wasn't a fan of the dumplings - mostly because I found the dough to be too thick.

Gene D.

Yelp
No frills, quick, budget friendly, decent tasting spot in Sunnyvale. The XLB, S&P Tofu, and chow mein were good tasting. The green onion pancakes were a disappointment. The Shrimp & Chive dumplings should have been called Chive dumplings, however.

Peter D.

Yelp
I love dumplings and noodles and little holes in the wall. The waitstaff was very friendly, and the service was prompt. Unfortunately, the food was in no way four star, IMHO. Ordered: Xian cold noodles; Szechuan pork and shrimp dumplings; crab and pork XLB; and spicy green beans. Nothing was especially flavorful, and the prices were high. Maybe I caught them on a bad day.
