The Hit List: New East Bay Restaurants To Try Right Now

"The team behind dumpling all-stars Dumpling Home is on a quest to spread the word about their miraculously sheer, broth-packed xiao long bao—there are now four related restaurants across SF and the East Bay. Dumpling Hours in Oakland’s Lakeshore is the latest edition, and cranks out a variety of perfect steamed, boiled, and pan-fried pouches made to order. The menu's long, but we'll make things easy: order the pork soup dumplings and pork buns, paired with the crispiest cucumber salad around. This casual place (no reservations taken) is the answer to any call for a no-fuss, dough-fueled meal. " - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez

Google
I love the food here and the portioning is large. My only issue about this place was communicating , I have no problem with the services given by the staff, but they should train their staff to communicate better in English. It's was my third time to be here and 2x I had miscommunication issues with the staff. Don't get me wrong their staff were wonderful ,they just need a little practice in English communication. They have clean restrooms and very nice interior design

I stopped in for lunch and had the spicy beef noodles. Delicious! And reasonably priced. Saw a lot of other tasty looking dishes on other tables. You know you’re in the right place when you’re one of the few non-Asians. I will be coming back!

Google
This place actually exceeded my expectation. I didn't expect much from a Chinese restaurant on Lakeshore. I ordered their wood ear combo and shrimp & pork dumplings. Both were surprisingly tasty! I will return.

Dumpling Hours in Oakland is a gem! We enjoyed a comforting Sunday lunch with freshly made noodles and dumplings that were stuffed to order. The flavors were exceptional, with each bite bursting with freshness and authenticity. The dumplings were perfectly steamed, and the noodles had just the right texture. The cozy ambiance and friendly service made the experience even better. Highly recommended.

Google
I love the dumpling entry, but no lie, I assumed their size would be like medium to large as illustration on the menu. Small dumplings portions were fine, and a lot of them. My problem with "cafe food" is a second entries. Give me medium fries, potatoes, or vegetable chips, which are my favorite mixed vegetables or leafy salad that's not more than the main menu. I enjoyed by shaded indoor seating do to a somewhat hot, people busy temoerature. Love, the concept with full Dumplings; it's something different.

Google
We were walking in the neighborhood and saw this restaurant. It’s full of people during the dinner time! But basically no wait hours. The dishes also came very quick. Shengjian mantou is very good and looked so cute! I like chives pocket. The spiced beef is also good.

Google
A solid 4 stars. The food was tasty, and the service was fast and attentive. My only complaint was that the chicken wings had too much batter. There were small clumps of unfried batter on some of the larger pieces. I probably won't order the wings again, but the green beans and dumplings were delicious.

Google
The Xiao Long Baos are good, but the prices are not. Its nice to try once from this place but theres better options with better prices out there. Nice small shop ambience with good quick service.

Yelp
Dumplings so good it must be a fluke, right? I will have to come back for a second round because I just cannot believe how good the dumplings were! I happened across this place by chance and was enticed to try it because of the sheer multitude of people eating here and the cozy, welcoming environment. The customer service was excellent! With great food and service, I felt like I was eating at someone's home. Be cautious when eating because the dumplings are hot and the liquid squirted across the room and almost hit another customer.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch on Christmas Eve as we were in the area. Really happy that they were open despite it being the holiday and we've been meaning to try this place. On our way to the restaurant, we tried adding our name on the Yelp waitlist but kept getting an error. Luckily when we got there they were not super busy so we were seated right away in one of their tables for 2. They told us to scan the QR code for the menu and to order, but ended up grabbing a printed menu anyway and ordered through the QR code. We got a bunch of stuff as we wanted to try different things and also love left over. We got the food below Cucumber - 9/10 - v crunchy and v garlicky, yum! Add some chili oil! Brussel sprouts - 9/10 - crunchy and flavorful. Make sure to toss them! Shrimp siumai - 9/10 - really yummy and juicy Shrimp dumplings 7/10 - it was ok, sauce was not yummy, ended up dipping in chili oil Dan Dan noodles - 9/10 great noodles consistency, great flavor but def needed chili oil and I wish they had raw egg yolk on top! Beef noodle soup - 3/10 this was a v disappointing dish. We ere excited about this bec it was one of those cold days but man that broth has zero seasoning. Tried adding soy and chili oil but nothing could fix that. The meat was also ok. The noodles were the only thing that saved that dish Chili oil - 10/10 - theirs is super delicious!!! Overall the food is good, service is quick despite them getting busy after we got there. Their walls are also decorated and their serving dish are very durable and nice. Would come back if in the area

Yelp
Delicious! All the classics are executed nicely here and delivered hot (which matters a lot of dumplings!). The pork xiao long bao is flavorful and well-executed; nicely cooked with a delicious broth. Must-get. The steamed pork buns, are hearty and satisfying, while the string beans sautéed with garlic sauce and juicy pan-fried pork buns are both tasty. My personal favorite? The braised beef noodle soup--rich and comforting and perfect for the winter months--and the pork wontons with sesame sauce and chili, which are absolutely delicious with a tasty sauce. The dan dan sesame paste dry noodles are also executed well. The only downside is the price point is a little higher than your typical hole-in-the-wall dumpling spots. That said, while it's not spectacular in comparison, everything is fresh, consistently good, and always hits the spot. It's a great choice for brunch with a group. Service is fast, efficient, and professional. Parking on Lakeshore can be tricky, especially on busy days. But they're open all day and you can count on every dish being nicely executed here. You can't go wrong!

Yelp
Tasty Dim Sum in an upscale atmosphere. Descent service. I usually prefer some place a little more authentic for dim sum, but this worked just fine for me as a place to meet up with some friends from out of town.

Yelp
First time lunch experience here and it definitely deserves a repeat. We ordered a variation of things: Dumplings Noodles Soup Mushroom salad app. See receipt for exact order. The mushroom salad appetizer was a different experience to texture was really different but it was tasty and I really like mushrooms so I was giving it a go. I thought the ginger scallion noodles were very good. And a soup was tasty which is what I would really probably go back for. I thought the dumplings were pretty fair as well. It was pretty quiet in there it was a later lunch so we didn't get the lunch crowd. The service was decent and the server was able to answer questions we had about what we were ordering.

Yelp
Had a great lunch at Dumpling Hours! I'm so glad there's a spot like this here in Oakland. I came for Saturday lunch around 11:30 with a party of 7. It's a large space and still a bit early for lunch, so it was easy for us to get seated. The menu is straightforward, with one page of drinks (beer, wine, tea, etc.) and one page of food. We ordered a variety of XLB / soup dumplings, pan fried pork buns ($14.95 for 6), string beans ($13.95), beef pockets ($13.95), and dan dan noodles ($15.95). You can order the XLB in orders of 4 or 8, so it's good for small and big groups to share. They run about ~$2/dumpling for the pork and beef and ~$3/dumpling for the crab and pork. Our favorites were definitely the XLB and the pan fried pork buns. The skin was very thin and there was a lot of soup inside the dumplings. We tried three different types -pork, beef, and crab & pork- and my favorite was probably the pork. I'm not sure if the crab & pork is worth the extra $$ since I couldn't really taste the crab. Everything else was also solid except for the beef pockets. Wouldn't recommend that as I found it a bit dry. Service was also good here. They kept refilling our waters as we slowly ate and chatted. Eventually the restaurant filled out and most of the tables were busy, but it was never so busy that there was a line of people waiting out the door.

Yelp
Having just been to their sister restaurant on Fillmore, Dumpling Hours was on our radar. Three of us (including my cousin who was a "Virgin Dumpling Hours" and sister restaurant customer were excited to check it out. Kyra and I feeling like the dumpling connoisseurs (that we weren't) zeroed in on the dumplings. Some pan fried juicy dumplings, some spicy wontons (not spicy at all but with a pleasant sesame based sauce), and a whole lot of soup dumplings! We ordered pork xlb, spicy pork xlb, truffle pork xlb, loofah and shrimp xlb! We got a little distracted with the dry fried chicken (not dry at all but with a sweet chili sauce) and some fried wontons (hey, those are dumplings too! Heheh). Everything delicious. Again, the stars were the steamed xlb and pan fried juicy dumplings. In fact cousin, who isn't a virgin dumpling person anymore has told us that she plans to go back... next week for more goodness along with a few more persons! Ordering is easy with a QR code at the table. Payment must be done with waitress when done. Parking metered along the street, free after 6pm!

Yelp
Very trendy little place with good food cooked to order. Good service. Good variety of menu items. I will have to go back to try more dishes!

Yelp
I've dedicated plenty of hours of my life to enjoying dumplings, and what a pleasure it was spending a couple hours at Dumpling Hours! After a busy workday, my thoughtful friend Li Y. and her cousin were kind enough to invite me to get together for a meal. We chose Dumpling Hours as it was a good in-between and all of us had never been but were interested in it! We all had high expectations considering it's a part of the Dumpling Home empire and boy did they deliver! Dumpling Hours in Oakland is the perfect addition to the upbeat area. The restaurant is super laid-back and casual, with artwork on the walls, and spacious with high ceilings. It's a non-pretentious environment for people of all paths to enjoy some good dumplings! There are plenty of tables for pairs or groups, it can be loud at times, and service is not as present. Since the restaurant operates through a QR code, staff work towards expediting orders versus checking on you so be mindful of that. Food comes out fairly fast and staggered depending on the dish. Now when it comes to dumplings, we love to try a variety of them! My friend ordered: Juicy Pan-fried Pork Buns, Pork Xiao Long Bao, Pork Wonton with Sesame Sauce Chili Oil, Hot & Spicy Pork Xiao Long Bao, Dry Fried Chicken Wings, Black Truffle & Pork Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp & Luffa Gourd Xiao Long Bao, and Fried Pork Wonton. My favorites were the pan-fried and pork xiao long bao--you can't go wrong with a classic. The spicy ones we ordered had a kick but weren't overpowering with spice. The luffa was not my favorite and I found it too bitter for my liking. Regardless, it was a dumpling delight for us to try so many new things! I'm grateful to Li Y. for taking and treating me to a phenomenal meal! I'm so happy to discover a new dumpling spot closer to home when I get my xiao long bao craving. For those who love xiao long baos and dumplings in the East Bay, this is a great spot. They also have another restaurant in Walnut Creek, but the Oakland location is easy to spot off Lakeshore Ave. with street and metered parking.

Yelp
Had a deal on grub hub and was craving some dumplings and found this location. Ordered through the app and my food was ready within about 15 mins. Got two orders of the pan fried dumplings. 1. Pan Fried Dumplings: These were so delicious! We literally got it straight from their kitchen when I picked it up so they just made it. They were super hot but there was so much delicious soup inside the buns. The flavor was amazing. I did wish they included some vinegar but I'm sure they would have had it if I asked for it but I assumed it would come with it in the bag. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, easy ordering and great quality for the price. Would definitely be back!

Yelp
Delicious! My younger sister introduced me to dumpling hours and it's now on my list of recommendations for Oakland eats. The environment is small and busy so you'll have to flag down your server but the dishes come out quickly. Some highlights for me were the Sheng jian bao and ginger scallion noodles, we asked for extra orders to-go because they were so good. If you're looking for tasty pan fried soup dumplings and comforting noodles, stop by dumpling hours.

Yelp
Whoa this place is legit! Out of all the new dumpling spots popping up. This one has been the best one so far. The must gets are the pork XLBs and pan fried soup dumplings. Both have great flavor and lots of bursting soup inside (proceed with caution). Came here for lunch and food came out really fast. Will for sure be back to try the other dishes.

Yelp
Efficient ordering system with a broad menu of items - I found the cucumber salad and bean curd salad to be exceptionally refreshing. The flavor profile is nuanced and not as in your face as other places, but I prefer that.

Yelp
This place was so good!!! I came here on a Friday afternoon and staff seated me immediately and were super attentive to my needs. Interior was modern, industrial, and clean. I had been craving wontons in peanut and chili sauce for so long and they made it so well!! I finished it super fast. I also got the pork xiao long bao and it was delicious. I appreciate that they give you a dumpling spoon to eat with as well. Highly highly recommend this place and I would say it's pretty affordable as well. Will be returning for more!!

Yelp
So glad to finally see dumpling hour open up in Oakland. They're the absolute best dumpling restaurant around as their Xian long bao dumpling skin is so soft and supple that they probably wear a face mask every night! Yet, they somehow are strong enough to keep in all the wonderful juices! Chicken Xian long bao - this is typically my favorite and unique to Dumpling Hour as most places only do pork or other meats. The only issue is that the cumin is a bit too strong but the Walnut Creek location makes the perfect version. Juicy Pan fried pork dumplings - crispy bottom and lots of juice inside. Really rich flavorful pork flavor. Cucumber salad - crunchy cucumbers with garlic. Pretty good and you need some veggies right? Love how this location is closer to where I live with great food but still think the Walnut Creek location makes everything a tad better

Yelp
So it was yummy but not original. Kind of toned down chinese. The dishes are well known dishes but the taste is very mild. We visited on a weekend Inside was clean with new interior. Not very busy but not quiet. Some dishes were better than others. We got the Juicy Pan Fried Pork Buns, Dumpling with shrimp pork, Dan Dan sesame paste noodles and Ginger noodles for two people. The Dan Dan had no flavor. No rich taste of the sesame like Im used to. Noodles were cooked firmer which I prefer. The Ginger noodles were a bit too sweet. My favorite was the dumplings with shrimp. It tasted fresh. Server was okay very neutral. I would try again if Im in the area. Street parking in front

Yelp
This place rocks. Do you like dumplings? Well they have alot of them and all the ones we tried were exceptional. Different flavors. Different textures. Just a great meal. Spicy Pork XLB are not spicy at all. But we expected that going in based on reviews. I would have preferred having the noodles prior to all the dumplings because I felt like the flavor was milder on them than the rest of the dishes. Everything came out hot and steaming. Great service.

Yelp
Google may have said this hole in the wall was less busy than usual, but this place was hopping on a Thursday night! When we arrived, we put our name in and waited for a bit outside to get seated. Once we got a table, ordering was made easy using their QR code. Once things got going, they got food out pretty quickly. I'm so glad I ordered the mushrooms because it was not only delicious, but something I knew I wouldn't have ordered just a few years ago, and I would have been missing out! We also ordered the scallion noodles which were so good and perfectly sauced. Onto the stars of the show - the dumplings. Because each time we got a new one, we couldn't imagine the next would be better and it never failed to disappoint. Ultimately, the tables favorite were the pan fried dumplings. But everything was delicious. The only ding on their record would probably be the Thai tea. I didn't love it, which is a rare thing with me and Thai tea. Next time, cause there will be a next time, we'll definitely be ordering all dumplings to try as many as possible!

Yelp
A good theme and summary of Dumpling Hours would be that it's a good Chinese restaurant that's lacks authenticity and tries to cater too much to the Western palate, which makes some of the dishes just very lack luster. Dumpling house feels like a restaurant with an identity crisis. While trying to hold onto classic and traditional vibes while opting to use modern decor and furniture. This ambiance... works. Now, as for the food, same thing. Classic traditional Chinese dishes, but with a modern and contemporary touch. Unfortunately, this take on food doesn't quite work--for me at least. Where the modern twist is more on the flavoring, it lacks the traditional flavors as it seems like the spices, sours, sweets, and general umami was more mellowed out to cater to the western palate. Now, the food is tasty itself. The food just doesn't hit the spot when it comes to being "authentic" in flavor. I'm curious as to why the scallion noodles and dan dan noodles are Italian spaghetti noodles cooked to al dente... Disappointing. Service was fine. Not nice but not mean, just your average hum drum RBF Chinese restaurant service. I wouldn't visit again.

Yelp
The hour for dumplings is here... The xiao long bao is the best thing on the menu. Excellent soup. My 10 year old eats a whole order of these himself. We have tried xiao long bao all over and these are quality. Definitely the best in Oakland. Five stars just for that. The rest of the menu is good. I like the ginger and scallion noodles, it is different from the usual noodles I get. The other dumpling offerings are also pretty good. The green beans are not of the same quality as other dim sum places but still pretty good. The food comes out QUICK. You order from a QR code app and it must be some efficient system that goes right to the cooks. Also, it's a xiao long bao place, they just keep cranking those out, makes for fast service. The servers are usually pretty busy so you will not get that very personal service but that is an acceptable tradeoff for quick food. Especially with kids!

Yelp
Great food! We were looking for an xlb restaurant last minute and decided to try this. Location is right downtown lakeshore which is nice. Service was good and quick.

Yelp
Ordered delivery, food was still hot when it arrived! I really like that DH offers a lot of dumplings options with chicken and shrimp. We ordered twice in one weekend and had the opportunity to try a lot of stuff. It is pricey, but we're happy to be able to get delicious dumplings delivered (twice, haha) when home sick over the weekend. I'd def order Pork XLBs, chicken XLBs, pan fried pork buns, green beans, and dry fried wings again. WILL DEFINITELY ORDER AGAIN Pork XLBs were fantastic. Perfect wrapper, delicious filling. Most places... their wrapper is too thick, this one was perfect, the dumpling stayed together but both the wrapper and filling were tender and delicious. Chicken XLBs were fantastic. So much so that I'd happily order them over the pork XLBs. Pan-fried pork buns were amazing. Chewy bouncy dough, delicious filling and soup. Still crispy even after delivery. Dry fried wings are delish, and the closest I've come to Nan King Road Bistro's Crispy Sesame Honey Chicken (temp. closed for years, ). IYKYK. Wenchang Dumpling Restaurant SF and Dumpling Baby China Bistro SF both serve Crispy Sesame Honey Chicken which is worth the trip, we stop by every time we're anywhere close in SF. I'll settle for DH's dry fried wings in a pinch, but wish they'd just serve Crispy Sesame Honey Chicken Nan King style (do it DH it'll be a best seller!!!) Green beans. Delish. The whole family loved them. MEH. PASS ON The green onion pancakes were good, but tasted... a little like Thai basil? Or something like that? I didn't love that. But hubs and kiddo like them. Veggie spring rolls. Kiddo requested the veggie spring rolls. They were still hot and crispy when they arrived and the filling was really tasty, but if it weren't for the kiddo I'd order something XLBs or pan-fried over spring rolls. The second time we ordered them she didn't touch em. So... pass. Sesame balls fell short. Small, and filling was dry. Shrimp, egg, mushroom dumplings. Meh. No one cared for the filling. Hard to identify shrimp, and the filling just didn't do it for us taste wise.

Yelp
I love big baos and I cannot lie. When I see ladies freshly wrapping them in front of my face, I get sprung! Juicy pan fried pork buns - they're the #1 recommended on Yelp for a reason. This is one of the best I've had. Super yummy, juicy and well cooked. This is a tricky one to do well since you don't want the bao too thick, but if it's too thin, the bottom will burn/burn through to the meat (which you don't want to overcook). I was pleasantly surprised to see all elements perfectly cooked. Crab & pork Xiao lung bao - this was my personal #1. I have found that a lot of places overcook their XLB when they add in shrimp or crab, but dumpling hours nailed it. It was yummy, juicy and so flavorful. Also, the presentation is beautiful with the crab sticking out the top! Brussel sprouts with truffle - a classic. Cooked crispy with clear truffle flavor coming through. A tad over salted. Hot and spicy pork XLB - not actually that spicy at all. It was well cooked though Sesame paste + chili oil wasn't my favorite. The sesame paste and wonton felt like a discordant combination and I didn't quite enjoy this one. They offer tea for $2pp as well! The service was prompt to give me napkins when I needed it. I admired the interior with beautiful wall art and woven lamps. The space was bright, cheery and warm.

Yelp
Hits the spot, but can be better if everything comes out nice and hot. Ordering the food was quite simple; you scan the QR code on the table and there are pictures as well, so you know what you're ordering! Once you're done eating, you pay at the cashier. Order these 7 dishes: Pork Wonton with Sesame Oil : 4/10 wouldn't get it again. It was cold once it came out, and over powered with the sesame oil (which tasted like peanut butter) Pork XLB : 7/10 a lot of flavor and perfect amount of soup Crab XLB: 6/10 not really anything special, unless you're truly craving for crab, would pass on this. Hot & Spicy Pork XLB: 5/10 not spicy at all, wouldn't get it again. Juicy Panfried Pork Bun: 6/10 it was cold once it got here, but packed with flavor and soup. Dumplings with Pork and Napa Cabbage: 7/10, I love the texture of the skin, that is chewy. Good balance of pork and veggie. It was cold once it got here. Shrimp Pork & Vegetable Pot Stickers: 7/10, nice crispy texture, and chewy on the inside. A lot of flavors, also cold once it got here. Honestly, definitely a more affordable price than Din Tai Fung if you're craving for dumplings, but if everything was served the moment it comes out the steamer / kitchen, I think the temperature would make a huge difference in the food.

Yelp
Wonderful dinner here with friends! As someone who doesn't eat pork, I was very happy with my non pork options. The chicken soup dumplings were delicious! Also loved the ginger sesame noodles. The green beans and sesame buns were good too. Service was quick and the seating inside is casual and welcoming. Good music too! Would return.

Serena C.

Yelp
Their food is really a cut above your average Chinese restaurant. So far it has not been crowded or noisy. We really like the shredded tofu salad. But the dumplings are all great too.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Dumpling Hours since they opened in Walnut Creek a few years ago. When I found out there was a location 5 mins away from where my mom lives, i told her we should try it sometime (as we love dumplings and dim sum), and did so last night. We had the ginger scallion noodles, veggie dumplings, Brussels sprouts, and the shrimp chive pockets. Of the four, our favorite was the ginger scallion noodles. Great flavor and not overly spicy. Loved the bright green color of the veggie dumplings and they didn't skimp on the filling. Brussels sprouts were crispy and the truffle flavor was not overpowering. Our least favorite was the shrimp, egg, and chive pockets as those had WAY too many chives and barely any shrimp or egg. I like chives in small doses but this amount was way too much. Only Shrek would like the insane amount of chives (because ogres are like onions, as both have layers). Despite arriving early in the evening on a Saturday night, the restaurant was not too crowded and we were able to find a table immediately. Service was quick, though the pockets took longer and were served after the other items were. The main downside that keeps me from giving 5 stars is that most of the dishes have pork. I'm pescatarian and wished they had more vegetarian and seafood only options (like har gow). We would for sure come back as we enjoyed 3/4 dishes, especially the ginger scallion noodles!

Yelp
Nice place, food is delicious. But most dishes are light taste, and steam food Good for lunch and dinner
google avatar

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Food was decent. Some pieces came out faster than others. I probably ordered dishes that aren't as popular to prep and serve quickly. The shrimp chive mushroom pockets were fun to try.. they were reminiscent of a hot pocket and a shrimp chive dumpling merged. The pocket was fresh and crispy. The okra was okay, I say the green beans are always a hit/fav. I enjoyed the pork dumplings with hot chili oil. It seems to have a type of peanut sauce with it. Service is attentive, even as they got busy. Ambiance is cute, high ceilings & culturally relevant decor. I'd come here again.

Yelp
I was so excited to see a new dumpling restaurant open in Oakland. I went on a Wednesday night and didn't have to wait. There's only street parking available and that area tends to be a little busy, so parking can be difficult. I ordered juicy pan fried pork buns, crab and pork XLB (half order), hot and spicy pork XLB (half order), pork wonton with sesame sauce chili oil, and green beans. They offer half orders (4 pieces) and full orders (8 pieces) of XLBs so it gives you a chance to try the various XLBs options they have. My favorite was the juicy pan fried pork buns and this is a must order if you are here. It was so delicious, juicy, and flavorful. The dough was not too thick. I thought their XLBs were delicious too, the dumpling skin wasn't too thick or thin. It doesn't break when you pick it up, which can be a problem at some places. Each piece was so juicy and flavorful. I liked both the crab and spicy baos, but the spicy was not too spicy. The green beans are pretty standard (just needed some vegetables for the table). The sesame chili oil wonton was interesting, but I probably wouldn't get this again. There was too much sesame paste, I wished there was more chili oil and spicer numbing taste to the wontons. The wontons itself were good. Highly recommend this place if you're craving dumplings.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place, because on paper it sounds amazing. I mean, what's not to love about dumplings, am I right? We got three different kinds of dumplings to sample (won tons with sesame sauce and chili oil, fried won tons and a third one I can't remember). Unfortunately they were all mediocre at best. Interior is nice though and service A-OK. I might come back, if I'm in the area and try something else, but so far I'm a bit underwhelmed.

Yelp
Came with the intent of having a family style dinner and the portion sizes definitely allow for that. The food service was very quick, they have a QR code system that allows you to order right from your table. Ambiance is relaxing, light music playing but allows for conversations to be had easily. It sounds obvious but don't stray from the objective if you're coming for the dumplings. The best ones by far are the hot and spicy pork xiao long bao and ordering a cucumber salad as a side. These require absolutely no dressing or preparation and are wonderful out the kitchen. Also tried a couple versions of the noodles, the pork buns, and the "dry fried wings". I quote those because they were anything but that, overly candied in sticky sauce, heavily fried and little meat on the bone. Not my style of wings but they were hard to finish an order of 6 between 7 of us, so take that as you may. Everything else was average and required you to dress it up to make the dish stand out. In summary if you're coming for the dumplings it's worth the stop. Just wouldn't stray too far from that.

Yelp
THis Place discriminates against the Black and disability Community. I'm upset that we were treated unfairly and discriminated against for who we are, and we are owners of property and members of this community. I pulled these pieces of Grissles out of my childs bowl, after they choked off the hard parts, and just threw the whole soup away. The Food we were given to Go, wasn't even Edible for DOGS, I have never been given any kind of food like this, ever in my life! This place would not be in business if they sold food like this, and I'm seeing all the reviews from customers who are not of African AMerican descent. We spent closed to 35$ for 2 bowls of soup, and this bowl caused my child to have to seek medical Attention! I'm Furious, because they had to have known what they were giving us, We ate one bowl there, and they give us this to go. I'm tired of these businesses coming in to our community, making money off of us, while taking their money back to their city and mistreating us, in this case, Harming us, as this was a very traumatic experience my child and I had to go through, just because they didn't treat us as equal, and give us the quality of food that we paid for!! I would URGE ANY AND EVERYONE TO BOYCOTT THIS BUSINESS FOR RAcIST AND HARMFUL PRAcTIces.

Yelp
Surprisingly good dumplings, given the general impression of a "fast Chinese foods chain" impression. The deco was neat and clean, services fast (server with iPad, or QR code on table). For Monday late lunch hour, we just walked in and seated. Not bad. Generally, highly recommended. Two nits: for Chinese restaurants, they charge for hot teas. The "spoon" was weirdly shaped like a small bowls. That really does not work for dumplings. Get some standard Chinese porcelean spoons please. Juicy Pan-Fried Pork Bun 生煎包 came in 6. They are the new "cup cake holder" style (instead of the traditional large cast-iron fry-pan). It's better for modern kitchens, but felt slightly less authentic. Flavor-wise, right on. Beware of the squirting hot juice. Pork Wonton with Sesame Sauce ande Chili Oil 紅油抄手 was the only one I felt not "up to par". This is basically standard wonton with spicy sauces and therefore judged primarily for the sauce that was not "red" enough, probably an attempt to appease the mainstream clientele that are spiciness-challenged. Shrimp, egg, chive mushroom pockets 韭菜盒子 was well flavored and perfectly pan-fried. Vegetable Dumpling 素蒸餃 was not properly (English) named as they were steamed. They surpassed my expectation from past experience elsewhere, as it is really a challenge to deliver without meat or oil. They did a wonderful job, particularly the shell was exactly the right thickness and texture. Shrimp and Luffa Gourd XLB 絲瓜蝦仁小籠 was the best dish. So flavorful and delicious that we cannot stop. Gosh, if it was that good, I wonder what will be their standard XLB be. Alas, we ran out of stomach capacity 2 and half dishes ago. I do recommend they consider a more thoughtful sequence in delivering dishes. The vegetable dumpling should be served early to not be paled by the stronger flavored follow-ons.

Yelp
Wow I did not expect to like this place as much as I did. Would give 4.5 stars if I could! We came around opening at 11am on a Saturday and was seated quickly. You can order through a QR code. We ordered the: - Crab xlb: good crab flavor! I've tried this at multiple places and most times you can't even taste the crab. This place does it right! - Truffle XLB: always a fan of truffle. You can taste the truffle but not sure if it's worth the extra cost - Pork XLB: solid - Dan Dan noodles: this would be my skip item if I were to order again. I liked the ginger scallion noodles more - Ginger scallion noodles: flavorful - Pan Fried Pork Buns: really good! I normally don't like pan fried buns so when I do, it must be really good!! Con's: One restroom inside only. Street parking only (and hard to find). Will come back and try the other items on the menu!

Yelp
Perfect dim sum for friends or other large groups in the popular Grand Lake neighborhood. I came here with a group of friends for lunch. They had been there before, and absolutely loved it. We were able to get seated in less than 10 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. Ambiance is causal and the service was good. We ordered the juicy pan-fried pork buns (soup dumplings), sautéed green beans, shrimp dumplings, and braised beef noodle soup. Everything was freshly made and delicious! I really want to come back and try the seasoned beef pockets and red bean paste pancakes.

Yelp
Excellent food!! Pan fry dumplings - Sheng Jian bao - FIRE!! juicy and the fried proton is so lightly crisp yet holds the juice up well!! The golden crunch so good! Spicy pig ears - on point! Light chili oil, a few dashes of soy sauce, the raw garlic really pulls everything together Ginger scallion noodles - definitely no ginger that I can taste, this is not the Momofuku version, but there are basically tender lightly seasoned noodles with deep fried green onions YUM Seasoned beef pockets/Shao Bing- great crisp on the outer pancake, scallion slices just right. The thing that was surprising was that the beef was unfortunately COLD. Taste and texture of everything else was there except for the cold beef which wasn't hot and tender as I'd hope Pork xiao long bao (XLB) - juicy, delicious, wonderful. Skin just the the right thickness, pork fluffy, not chewy at all Service was lightning quick and the server even came to silently hand me extra napkins when he saw me struggling. Food comes out fast too. No frills. Atmosphere was clean, bathroom was in good shape Overall, definitely would return and even bring my super picky Asian parents!

Yelp
Second time here, first time w the family in tow. The kids declared this location to be "better" than the Walnut Creek location. We waited 5-10 min tops and got to sit at the lone window bench seat which was great since my 4 year old didn't need any high chair or booster. Excellent food and service with a smile. One bathroom can be tough but it helps there is a toilet and urinal inside. Recommend everything here and I'm sure we will be back many times now that there is a closer location to where we live.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of trying out Dumpling Hours, the newest addition to our culinary scene. The pork xiao long bao was a standout, boasting that perfect blend of savory goodness and delicate wrapping, a true classic that lived up to its reputation. Now, onto the star of the show - the pork wontons in sesame chili sauce. These were an absolute must-try; the combination of flavors was nothing short of exquisite, a tantalizing experience for the taste buds. On the flip side, the scallion and ginger noodles didn't quite hit the mark for me. Despite the anticipation, they fell a bit short of expectations. The flavors lacked the vibrancy I was hoping for, leaving the dish somewhat disappointing. To wrap it up *badumtst*, Dumpling Hours shows great promise with its standout dishes. While the pork xiao long bao and the pork wontons in sesame chili sauce are definite winners, a tweak to the scallion and ginger noodles could elevate the overall dining experience. I look forward to seeing how this spot evolves in the future.

Yelp
Love that they have a dumpling making station so you can watch them make your order fresh!! Service was relatively fast and efficient. Dan Dan noodles was properly flavored and they mix it at the table for you. The pan fried dumpling was filled with hot broth so they warn you multiple times before they walk away. It's delish. Highly recommend the hot & spicy XLB it wasn't very spicy but had a lovely flavoring. The black truffle one was meh. The crab and pork XLB definitely had crab in it. Will have to come back to try the rest of the menu!!

Yelp
I am so happy to have a local dumpling restaurant that tastes so authentic! I've taken my Taiwanese in-laws here, and they even give Dumpling Hours two thumbs up We ordered: - Pig Ears & Cucumber with Chili Sauce - Pork Xiao Long Bao - Crab & Pork Xiao Long Bao - String Beans Sauteed with Garlic Sauce - Juicy Pan-Fried Pork Buns - Ginger & Scallion Noodles There isn't anything that I would not order again -- everything was a hit!

Yelp
Delicious! Beautifully decorated, love the exposed brick walls. Dumplings are like love in a little package. I ordered the veggie ones...my eyeballs rolled into the back of my head. That's how amazing they tasted! Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Food 5/5 Tried the pork soup dumplings, spicy wontons, Egg Drop Soup, Dan Dan Noodles, potato salad, green onion pancake, and pan fried dumplings. No kidding everything was significantly better than expected and I can say the best dumplings I've had so far in East Bay. The sesame spicy wontons were really flavorful and the soup was very tasty. Soup dumplings were hot, the soup was amazing, and the meat inside delightful. Service 5/5 They kept coming to refill waters which was awesome. They explained how to order (via phone) and to made recommendations. Ambiance 5/5 It was clean, the tables were right size for food. It was casual inside and not too loud so we could all hear eachother talking. I would definitely come back. And hopefully get more photos of the food haha.

Yelp
I love dim sum and this place does not disappoint. It's a small casual spot in the Oakland Lakeshore district. We walked in on a Friday evening for dinner and was seated immediately the restaurant was buzzing with couples and families with children enjoying the food. we decided on several options like cucumber salad, garlic and chive noodles, wontons, potstickers, brussel sprouts, egg rolls and pork buns were all fantastic two ladies behind the counter were energetically preparing our food, everything steamed and fried to perfection I will definitely be back to try some of their other options. Thank for a great date night kick off.

Yelp
Overpriced and bad! Dan Dan noodles: tasted like Panda Express noodles but more oily and more expensive. do not recommend!! rating: 1/10 Chili oil wontons: this dish was so weird. There was a lot of peanut butter on the wontons which did not work with the chili oil. not enough meat in the wonton and too much skin. not worth! rating: 1/10 soup dumplings: these were alright. strong gingery flavor and semi-warm. rating: 6.5/10 overall: would not come back & do not recommend. not a good reflection of chinese/taiwanese food. Everything on the menu was overpriced.

Yelp
LOVE the pork XLBs and green beans and shu mai. Tried the spicy pork XLBs and they weren't that spicy and actually had a bit of sweetness we didn't love. We were curious about the shrimp egg chive pockets. They were very hot and crispy but too much chives and not enough of the other fillings.
