Quick Summary:
- Within walking distance from one of the MUNI N line bus stops
- Parking appears difficult around the block, possible alternative to park in the Golden Gate park?
- Indoor seating
- Casual eating experience
Felt like years since we went to the Inner Sunset region, so we searched around for possible places to eat there, when our eyes stopped on this one. We love dumplings, and on top of that, there is also the family favorite dishes: the mustard green with pork noodle soup This was definitely a must-go, so off we went to the city.
This area is two blocks from the Golden Gate Park, so it's bustling with pedestrians, vehicles, and other public transportation including the MUNI. Sidewalk parking looks very difficult on how often and busy this lane is, so if you are planning to arrive in a car, I would suggest looking for parking in the Golden Gate park and walk to the street. Otherwise, I would recommend take the MUNI, N-line and stop at Irving and 9th street: the public transit will stop a building or two away from the restaurant.
The restaurant has a casual eating experience, a place to go when you are feeling hungry. There is a sign at the back, where it mentions that there is a 10% discount if the order is paid in cash; a nice discount I would say. A family with a toddler was there to enjoy a meal experience.
When asked for how many people, the staff replied that we can sit anywhere, so we chose a table. Once we sat down, we grabbed a takeout menu folded menu, that was placed on the table. We already decided on the mustard noodle soup, but it took us a while to choose what dumpling to eat, there were so many to choose from.
Eventually, we chose Shanghai Soup Dumpling, Shanghai Pan fried soup dumpling, and the Crispy Special Shrimp dumplings.
The mustard green and pork noodle soup arrived first, so we filled out bowls with the noodle and soup and ate this one first. This one was very nice! The soup is clear and refreshing. We were delighted with the mustard green, It was cooked lightly, so the vegetable had sweet notes to it. The color was vibrantly green. For our first time here, we ordered it with default noodles, but next time I might try the knife-cut version.
Next was the Shanghai soup dumplings and the crispy special shrimp dumpling came soon after. The Shanghai soup dumplings were piping hot with the clear and rich broth inside. After drinking the soup, we poured a couple drops of the sour vinegar sauce into the dumpling and ate it. The size is a nice bite-size, but I would eat it in that way after drinking the soup out.
The crispy shrimp dumpling was a unique one. The skin was cooked to a fine crisp texture, so every bite made a satisfying crispy crunch. The inside was packed with pureed shrimp. This dish was sprinkled with hot chili sauce and cilantro, so it didn't need other sauces. This one felt like it was meatier than the other two dumplings, since the rest had a balanced ratio of soup and meat filling.
Finally, the Shanghai pan fried soup dumplings arrived last. Compared to the other two, this one is a size larger. If I squint, it kind of reminds me of a Momo size. The skin is also thicker than the Shanghai soup dumpling, so a chopstick poke didn't hurt it. This one is large, so we ate this by placing it in the small bowl instead of the spoon.
Eating this one does fill the stomach a notch, so be weary if you are planning to eat this alongside other dishes.
Overall, I'm very happy to continue discovering dumpling restaurants with the family's favorite dish. Surely we will come back here again to try this because we love this neighborhood.
