The 13 Best Restaurants In The Lower Haight - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This is the second location of the casual dim sum spot Dumpling Union, and, damn, everything here is delicious. The siu mai is perfectly constructed, the xiao long bao is extra rich, the barbecued pork buns are pillowy, and the beef chow mein is full of the most tender noodles we’ve had in recent memory. Dim sum this good and fun needs a fun space. There’s a pair of neon blue angel wings on the wall, slightly gaudy gold spray-painted chairs, and vines everywhere." - ricky rodriguez, lani conway, julia chen 1

Power Ranking Every Two-Word SF Restaurant That Starts With "Dumpling" - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"If Dumpling Home is the trusty old Toyota Corolla of the dumpling world, then Dumpling Union is the showy Porsche. The Lower Haight spot has gaudy gold chairs, faux marble tables, and a seemingly random set of neon blue angel wings on the wall that make this place feel like a club-turned-restaurant. And the dumplings go along a similar route: there’s multicolored xiao long bao and spicy siu mai that’s extra red. But despite all the theatrics, each of these dumplings actually deliver on both flavor and quality." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

Dumpling Union Review - Lower Haight - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This is the second location of the casual dim sum spot Dumpling Union, and, damn, everything here is f*cking delicious. The siu mai is perfectly constructed, the xiao long bao is extra rich, the barbecued pork buns are pillowy, and the beef chow mein is full of the most tender noodles we’ve had in recent memory. Dim sum this good and fun needs a fun space. There’s a pair of neon blue angel wings on the wall, slightly gaudy gold spray-painted chairs, and vines everywhere. Food Rundown Seaweed Salad Juicy, firm, crunchy—everything a simple, but perfectly executed seaweed salad should be. Although, it’s kinda hard to mess this one up. photo credit: Erin Ng Spicy Siu Mai Great siu mai with just the right kick. The pork works well with the shiitake mushroom. photo credit: Erin Ng Combination Xiao Long Bao Get these on your table. The combination is a mix of three different flavors: original, spicy, and tom yum flavors that will delight. All three are full of broth you’ll never want to end. photo credit: Erin Ng Barbecued Pork Bun The bun is pillowy and the filling isn’t too sweet—the recipe for an overall nice pork bun. Beef Chow Mein At first glance, this is simply a standard chow mein, but one with almost perfectly chewy noodles that make this dish stand out. Nicely cooked beef, cabbage, carrots, bean sprouts, and onion round it all out." - Ricky Rodriguez

Google
Ordered takeout — went with the pork, cabbage, and onion dumplings. They traveled surprisingly well; still soft and juicy when I got home. The flavor was solid — savory filling with a nice balance between pork and cabbage — though nothing that completely blew me away. Overall, a dependable dumpling spot if you’re craving something comforting and straightforward. Nothing fancy or over-the-top, but it definitely hits the spot. I’d order again, especially for a quick and easy meal.

Google
The food came out very fast, it was good. I did find a hair in my green beans which made me not finish my last few bites. The cucumbers were disappointing so maybe skip those. I will say the restaurant itself needs a good cleaning. The walls are filthy and dusty, and the vents are packed shut with dirt/lint.

Google
This place is nice and clean, everything is self service, order your self, no paper menus electronic orders taken on line, no conversation with staff 😕 I liked the dumplings 🥟, tasty and delicious Quick service . Street parking available .

Google
I just paid over $40 for this food to be delivered to me in my hotel. It’s absolutely inedible. Both the rice and the kung pao chicken taste like chemicals - like someone sprayed Lysol on them or something. I ordered through Uber Eats which does not offer any kind of refund for crap food. Do not order carry out from this place - it’s disgusting. It’s also poorly packaged and arrived dripping greasy oil out of the bottom of the bag which is now on the table in my hotel room and I have no reasonable way to clean it without ruining towels. The potstickers are tasteless and soggy. I couldn’t be more disappointed or grossed out than I am.

Google
Two of us went here for dinner and had a really nice time, tasting some of the tasty Chinese dishes. The food order process is very neat. You scan the QR code on the table and order food through your mobile phone. Then, the waiter will bring food to your table. You pay at the end. We ordered a pot of jasmine tea, beef fried rice, shrimp chow mein, combination bao buns and spicy shrimp dumplings. Everything was very tasty and good portion sizes. If you are in San Francisco looking for great Chinese food, I have no hesitations recommending Dumpling Union. Thank you 😊

Google
We order Mongolian beef and noodles beef. Both are way too salty. Poorly prepared. We didn’t enjoy the food. Dumplings so so given the name Dumpling Union is a shame.

Google
I had the chicken dumplings and pork shrimp xlb Bao. Delicious.

Google
Really great dumplings! Service was really good as well. I'm looking forward to returning.

Yelp
Finally had a chance to try this place out! It's a cute spot on Union in the Marina! We ordered combo Xiao Long Bao (XLB) and Union XLB. They were both delicious and my favorite out of all was the Thai Tom Yum flavor! We also had two kinds of noodles: ChongHing Noodle soup was one. I personally love spicy so it was perfect. We also had the Shrimp Chow Mein. The pan fried onion pancake was a good appetizer. Workers there were pretty friendly and helpful. The prices were reasonable so we would definitely go back again to explore their menu!

Yelp
This is a fusion restaurant, not the type of place you take your Asian aunties to! Ok now that we've established that, this place is actually pretty solid for fusion food. I came with two friends and was pretty skeptical because the Marina is not known for authentic Asian food lol but I actually enjoyed the food we got here. I came with 2 friends who were vegetarian and got the vegetarian potstickers, vegetarian dumplings, and kimchi fried rice to share. The dumplings were pretty chewy and the kimchi fried rice was flavorful. The beef noodle soup was also pretty rich and a good portion size. Service was fast and the place filled up quickly later in the evening.

Yelp
comparatively to other dim sum places in san francisco, this one was okay. in my opinion, the food was not super flavorful and nothing really stood out to me. the beef chow mein was not great, not much sauce to it and so we ended up leaving a large portion of it at the restaurant. the xlb was pretty standard. the tap water was not great but such is sf tap water. the service was great. the staff was friendly and not a long wait time at all. the prices were fair for the food.

Yelp
Food was tasty and each item was bursting with juices and flavor. Service could be a bit more friendlier but I liked how the waitress was attending to our water serving and then served the custard buns as dessert at the end. Ambiance - causal, modern dining with nice decoration.

Yelp
3.5 stars - Not the best, but also not bad. Gets the job done if you're in the area and need your dumpling/Asian food fix. I would not go out of my way to come here again. We walked in on a Sunday evening around 630pm without a reservation and were seated right away. The crowd picked up shortly after we ordered, and by the time we were done eating, every table was taken. **SERVICE** I want to be lenient here because our waiter seemed overwhelmed once it got busier. The staff were nice but not that attentive. There were a few times when I tried to wave someone down and they walked right past me. The food came out pretty quickly though. **FOOD** Dan Dan noodles: The texture was good - just the right amount of chewiness and flavor. I would have liked it to be just a tad saucier, but it was still tasty. Not really spicy as noted in the menu. I asked for some chili oil on the side to add some extra heat. Chicken Truffle dumplings: My least favorite dish of the meal. We opted for this instead of the wontons in chili oil because this one came with 12 instead of 8 pieces. The texture was more like tortellini than dumpling, and I could barely taste the truffle oil. Pork XLB: Good, but not super memorable. **AMBIANCE** Super casual. The restaurant is small, but they make good use out of the space they have. I also saw 2 tables set outside, but it was too chilly to sit there. You walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. **PARKING** Almost entirely street/meters. Can be tricky as there are also lots of other restaurants and shops nearby.

Yelp
Food was great. Cucumbers and zucchini sides! Beef noodle soup had great flavor, light broth. Service and ambiance great

Yelp
Checked out yet another place to get dumplings and other Asian. Dumpling Union has a few locations in San Francisco, including this one on Union Street at Octavia Street. It apparently is the original one of these. A few tables are inside. This is pretty common for takeout it seems. Better to eat inside if there's enough room because the dumplings are good when they're fresh. It's not a big place but there's enough room for a few tables inside. The menu specializes in dumplings obviously. Has quite a few to choose from. It's about $11 to get the Vegetarian Dumplings, which is the one we got. These are filled with bean curd, cabbage, carrots, chives, and mushrooms. Good enough for a lunch. These maybe wouldn't be enough for a big meal. Good place to get some fresh dumplings. It's one of the many around here. There's several options of these for vegans and vegetarians.

Yelp
Great spot and staff. The string beans here are to die for honestly a must have if you stop by here. I would skip on the noodles and rice which were really just OK and just come for some dumplings and other dishes. I teter between the 3/4 stars but I really loved the string beans and I think the dumplings were ok enough to warrant a "maybe come back for it"

Yelp
We were a party of 5 that showed up no reservation. The tables were pretty full, but the host let us know that a party of 5 was running late so if they didn't show up we could have their table. We got seated 10-15 minutes later. For four of us, we ordered quite a bit of dishes because each dish each person would get maybe 1-2 dumplings. Decently priced, and a good dumpling, would definitely come again! ++ if you can speak Chinese. Items to recommend: Stir fried string beans Chicken fried rice Szechuan hot and spicy dumpling - good flavor of the sauce with the dumplings Classic pot stickers - nice and crunchy i really liked them Pork dumpling - i am a sucker for a good boiled dumpling and these were outstanding, the skin was nice and chewy Items we ordered not too stand out but still decent: Steamed soup XLB - came with those little alumnium dishes which to me doesn't scream fresh but rather frozen Barbecue pork bun - nothing too special, just a dimsum dish Classic siu mai - nothing too special, just a dimsum dish
google avatar

Cara M.

Yelp
Always our go-to when craving dumplings! Good variety of dumplings on the menu with a few fusion-style dishes also, always very welcoming when you arrive and quick service which is always appreciated. And reasonably priced for the city! No frills, clean seating inside- we usually opt for takeout because nothing better than dumplings at home while cozy watching tv! Favorites include: wagyu dumplings, crystal shrimp dumplings, sichuan hot and spicy dumplings, classic siu mai - honestly can't really go wrong with any of their dumpling/dim sum options! The mayonnaise nut shrimp and mapo tofu are also notable mentions as great sharing plates (we even had another table of guests inspired by our choice of foods they asked what the mayo nut shrimp dish was- it's definitely a treat!)

Yelp
Came across this place on Yelp while in the Marina District for dinner. Upon entering we were greeted by one of the servers and they told us to sit anywhere we'd like where it's open. There was a self-service kiosk as well to order their food to-go. We dined-in and ordered the following: - Wagyu Dumplings: Very good meat flavor & packed with a bit of broth - Stir-fried String Beans: Amazing! Loved the fried garlic on top of the string beans. Highly recommend drizzling it with chili oil for that extra flavor - UNION Beef Noodle Soup: Delicious and warm, the beef was very tender - Combination XLB: A great way to try their Xiao Long Bao flavors, the Tom Yum was an interesting one to try! - Chrysanthemum Tea: Wasn't sure if they charge for refills or not, but it was so warm to the stomach and I enjoyed it very much. When you open the pot, you can see the flowers in a strainer, so you know it's really fresh tea! It is a nice restaurant to visit while in the area, and there's a lot of stores around to shop at before or after dining. I would come back to try again if I'm ever in the area

Yelp
We had been looking forward to dining at Dumpling Union! We've heard such great things so we decided to have a date night here. We got there right at 5pm on Friday and sat immediately. You order from the QR code and they'll start working on your order! The food was super quick to come out; hot and ready. All so delicious! 10/10 experience :)

Yelp
Quick service in a casual restaurant that was busy even on a Monday night. No wait though! The noodles themselves taste very high quality, perfectly chewy! Xiao long bao options were interesting and unique!

Yelp
Super cute restaurant! The food; YUMMY! The drinks: Great The service: FAST! We got: Sichuan Hot&Spicy Dumplings. Steamed Soup Xiao Long Bao XLB (favorite) Sichuan Dan Dan Noodle Three Flavor Dumplings (favorite) Fried Crab Roll (favorite) Chrysanthemum tea Lime passionfruit drink (favorite) It was all SOOO GOOOOD!!!

Yelp
Rainy day and I stumbled across this gem! So glad I did, as a pescatarian sometimes it's hard to find dumplings! The place is super cute and the service was amazing, would recommend!

Yelp
Walked up to Dumpling Union today for lunch with a party of 8. They were able to accommodate us no problem, plenty of seating and space. Ordered a ton of shared dishes that were all amazing. The Sichuan Hot & Spicy was amazing. Fried rice and Pork bun also fantastic.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a good solid neighborhood restaurant. It's my go to place and has a large takeout presence and a computer right in front to self-order. I like their vegetarian dumplings which come in a vibrant green color and are flavorful and have texture to them which is harder to do with vegetarian. The Mongolian beef seemed a little fatty, I wasn't into that but their the Kung Pao Chicken is good and I order often. They close at little early at 9pm, I really wish they stayed open until at least 10. Worth noting that on the weekdays they close for lunch from 3pm-5pm.

Yelp
Great location on Union street with average food and service. If you're hungry and nearby, it's a sold option but with so many outstanding dumpling and dim sum restaurants in the city, you can definitely do better. The potstickers were the standout dish, chock full of tender flavorful pork. Cucumber salad was bland but better with the addition of chili oil tableside. The spicy dumplings weren't very spicy and the xiao long bao had a tasty broth but not much of it. It was a little odd that they were purple. A decent pork bun and bland ha gow rounded out the meal. Everything came out quickly and piping hot. Ordering takes place thru your phone and service mainly consisted of delivering dishes and filling water glasses. A little mumbly but ok.

Yelp
Amazing dumplings! Enough said. Just go. Spicy sui Mai had a delicious pepper flavor I've never tasted. Pork buns taste fresh made, shrimp dumplings: amazing. They didn't miss with anything!

Yelp
We eat here every time we are in SF for work. It's a great place that can handle large groups. The staff is ver friendly and the food is always excellent. Its very casual open atmosphere in a fun part of town. Call a head for large groups because the restaurant isn't very big. I recommend dumpling union if you are in the area.
google avatar

Alicia F.

Yelp
Food: solid 3.5 Service: 5/5 I've walked pasted Dumpling Union a ton of times. Honestly, honestly, I think the cheesy logo shied me away from it but a few drinks in, we stumbled in and ordered a feast. lol We came in 30-40 minutes before closing time and they didn't hesitate to take our order one bit. It was pretty busy but we got a table right away. Service is really what bumped up my rating - our waiter was so nice! Here is the feast order: Vegetable dumplings Regular & spicy xiao long bao String beans Cucumber salad Sichuan spicy dumplings Crab rolls Chicken chow mein Our favorite dishes were the veggie dumplings, string beans, cucumber salad and chow mein. Not gonna lie, all the dumplings tasted exactly the same. They weren't bad, just nothing special and nothing was even remotely spicy. If you're hanging out in the Marina looking for dumplings or Chinese food, this will satisfy the craving for sure.

Yelp
Awesome dumpling fusion spot in the cow hollow marina area!! Definitely try their king pao dumplings, spicy XLB, chicken wings, honey walnut shrimp, and short ribs. I come here quite often for team dinners, birthdays and whenever I crave some good dumplings. The service is pretty good and fast, the staff is pretty friendly and helpful as well. I'll continue coming back!
google avatar

Yelp
Yummmmyyy!!! Had soup dumplings, string beans, shu mai and beef noodles yesterday. Everything was delicious...seriously the garlic string beans were phenomenal. Highly recommend. The order off the menu was convenient but a little hard to navigate. I would def go back though.
google avatar

Avery M.

Yelp
wouldn't say this would be my go to spot but it did get the job done and quick service! my favorite was the spicy wonton/spicy dumpling and the beef soup. comfort food and the meat was tender and flavorful :) the rest were honestly not as flavorful as I hoped. they weren't bad but it didn't wow me. overall though, not a bad spot if you are trying to avoid lines. easy to walk in and take out!

Yelp
Discovered this place on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy. Got to sit wherever we wanted and we ordered using the QR code on the table. All of the food was delicious! Everything was reasonably priced with good portions! I would recommend going with a big group so you can try everything. This is my new favorite place and will definitely come back to try the ones I didn't get this time around. Staff was also nice and attentive.
google avatar

Deangela S.

Yelp
I came here on a Thursday night and let me tell you, this place gets packed quick! The space is small just like any other SF restaurant, but can still accommodate groups of 6 for a family/friend dinner. I was able to come in and enjoy a hot meal while watching the Warriors game. I recommend the hot tea. I got some Jasmine and it really warmed me up while waiting for the rest of the food. The customer service is quick and really nice. All the servers are still wearing masks. They tell you to sit in any available seat. All of the food is beautifully plated and steaming hot as it's coming out of the kitchen. The chicken wings were juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The sauce is just like the sweet chili sauce you can get from the Asian supermarket. I would recommend as an appetizer, but order multiple if you're planning to share. This is on me that I didn't order the right thing. I did not like their mapo tofu dumplings and I would not recommend. The filling had green peas/carrots that reminded me of the ones you get from a frozen bag and just dominated the flavor of the dumplings. Do not get me wrong. The vinegar and chili oil helped out, but I would not recommend. I'm sure the other dumplings must be better. Something I was eyeing as it came out was their kimchi fried rice. It will just be for another time. I noticed a lot of people doing Doordash and takeout. The people working there were so efficient and made everything look so easy. If you want a nice hot meal during a cold SF night come out and try this place or just order in.

Yelp
I came here to satisfy my Chinese food craving and while that did happen, it was not by any means the best Chinese food I've had. The xiao long bao (xlb's) were good but the spicy one was nowhere near spicy. In fact, it tasted like a regular one but with purple skin. Speaking of spice, the Sichuan hot and spicy dumplings were once again -10 on the spice level but the flavoring was good. I was surprised to find hints of peanuts in there since I never typically find that in dumplings. The beef noodle soup was all right. The broth wasn't any special and the noodles weren't too springy. The Thai fried rice noodles on the other hand had too strong of a lemongrass flavor but the noodles were chewier. My favorite entree was probably the beef fried rice since the beef was pretty tender and they had a good balance of all the ingredients. We ended the meal with condensed milk and fried bun which I thought tasted like grease but my table seemed to like it a lot more. To order your food, you select the items online and press order which sends it to the kitchen. You can always add on more food by scanning the QR code and adding more items which we ended up doing. It comes out at a reasonable time and there are sharing plates for everyone to try a bit of everything.
google avatar

Aishwarya I.

Yelp
Great vegetarian options. Tasty and reasonably priced food in a clean cute little restaurant. The mapo tofu dumplings were delicious. So were the pan fried vegetable dumplings, vegetarian Dan Dan noodles. The service was prompt; it was a phone QR code ordering system.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
I've had a lot of xlb and dim sum in my life and this spot is not great, not bad. Combination xlb had good mix of flavors and pretty colors, and the siu mai had good flavor even though the meat was tightly packed and a bit dense. If you've never had any of this food before prepare to be hooked and then prepare to find a better spot to try a more extensive dim sum menu.
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
Nice location along Union Street for Chinese food! They do QR code menus with ordering through your phone directly to your table. It's a very convenient way of ordering. Tom yum Xiao long bao: B+ The most unique thing on the menu so I had to order it. They look quite pretty with the bright red skin. Taste wise, it's pretty similar to regular pork soup dumplings but has a slight sour profile from the Tom yum. Was good, but wouldn't say better than the original version. Pork pot stickers: A These pot stickers were great. Firm wrapper so the dumplings give very satisfying bites and the pork tastes wonderful. Cucumber salad: B- Pretty decent if you like cucumber. Dan Dan noodles: B Not as spicy as I imagine some places make Dan Dan noodles. I like noodle dishes a lot and this one was okay. Lava buns: B- These are salted runny egg yolk steamed buns if you've seen them at dim sum restaurants. I typically prefer egg custard buns but these are sweet and salty for a good balance. These buns are a bit small.

Yelp
Found this little gem while in the City picking up our daughter from and was early. It was about 7pm on a Friday night, got street parking right in front of the restaurant and got a table right away. There were a lot of people eating. We ordered a few different dumplings. The Three Flavor Dumplings with Pork, Shrimp & Chives, Shrimp XLB with Pork, Sichuan Hot & Spicy Dumplings with Shrimp, Pork, Chill Oil, Garlic & Peanuts, & Shumai with Pork, Shrimp & Shiitake Mushroom. Every single dish is 5 stars. Tasted fresh and flavorful. The Hot & Spicy Dumplings were not spicy at all so I add it their house made Chill Oil which was very good with a great aroma. My absolute favorite in the Shumai the the Shiitake Mushroom, I love the flavor mix with the pork and shrimp. BTW, those are very hard to find, not a lot of restaurant add the Shiitake Mushroom Shuimai's. The service was excellent and fast. We ordered online at the table and the food came fairly fast. In & Out in about 45 minutes. Differently would return!!!

Yelp
Delicious! Amazing customer service. My boyfriend is allergic to shellfish and that can be hard when eating Asian food because fish sauce is in a lot of the dishes. They were helpful and ordered with us to make sure he would be safe. The food could be a little more spicy, but overall super good.
google avatar

DeAnne V.

Yelp
We slipped in right before the rush and in our haste and excitement, we ordered a LOT of food for the three of us. We started with the spring rolls, which I highly recommend for a troop they are petite and so tasty with or without the sauce. We then ordered vegetarian and pork dumplings and BBQ pork bao buns. The BBQ was great and we definitely order again. The pork dumplings were fantastic but the veggie dumplings lacked a lot in flavor. The Mongolian beef was a home run but the veggie noodle dish with the mushroom sauce just didn't have enough liquid to distribute so it felt a little gummy in the mouth. Overall, I still highly recommend a trip to Dumpling Union. There are a lot of tasty things to choose from and they bring your food to you fast!
google avatar

Yelp
Note this is a pescatarian based review. I cant speak to the meat dumplings this time round Fish dumplings were pretty average, you get an option of boiled or steamed and we went boiled. Tasted pretty much the same if you just had a supermarket frozen packet and boiled them. Not worth the money Zucchini and shrimp soup dumplings tasted full on zucchini, couldnt taste the shrimp at all though I could verify it was inside. Visually. The base of all of these stuck to the foil even straight after it was served. I guess this indicates a lack in preparation. My guess is frozen to steam straight away. Lost pretty much all the soup from having no choice but to let the top rip off Kimchi fried rice was also pretty bland. We would have gone for a noodle dish but none are without meat. A little if rice, kimchi bits and 2 piece of green onion The service was fine, you order through a QR code on the table. Will not be back unless i want to try the pork dumplings but I think I can already guess how theyll taste (not worth the price)

Yelp
I'm sitting in a gold booth here at Dumpling Union and HAD to write this NOW! We could keep ordering amazing dumplings all night long- everything from the cucumber salad to the purple soup dumplings was just delicious. My hands down favorite was the Szechuan dumplings !!!!!! Oh, the neon cats are fun too

Yelp
Absolutely delicious, and already looking forward to our next visit. We came in around noon on a Sunday, and were seated immediately near the back of the restaurant by the kitchen. You are given QR codes to pull up the menu and order on your phone. We ordered a few of our favorites, and our server was super sweet when we called her over and let her know that we would love the chili oil dumplings, but unfortunately I can't eat pork. She had us select the vegetarian option, and then just made the adjustment for us. Dishes came out pretty quickly, and paced out, so that we weren't bombarded with everything all at once. The fried rice was absolutely delicious. We accidentally ordered both the vegetarian potstickers, and got the chili oil dumplings with the vegetarian filling as well, so next time, we'll definitely opt for one of those to be chicken. The scallion pancake was super crispy, but a little light in the actual scallion, and the union dumpling (with shrimp) ended up being our favorite. We were pretty sure that both the fried buns for dessert and scallion pancakes are probably premade and just heat it up at the time of being ordered, but they were still pretty good. Decoration was cute, and the bar looked neat and organized. The whole place was clean, and efficiently run. Overall, we had a fantastic time, and will probably be back when we're in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Haven't tried anything else from their menu, I keep going back for the beef noodle soup. Noodles are so fresh and chewy and the beef is melt in your mouth tender. Good flavor for the broth as well.

Yelp
Delicious. Easy ordering, friendly staff, prompt service. We ate till we waddled out the door What more do you need?

Yelp
Got dumplings to go, so the food was excellent and well packed. The Shanghai soup dumplings was exactly what I needed! While waiting, I checked out the ambiance inside and it was small, but nice. I'm not sure what the internal service experience was though.

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner with a friend the other night and it was such a delight. Loved the green beans and the siu mai so much! Lots of good spicy options in the menu. The combo soup dumplings look pretty but honestly the regular was my favourite! Dumpling Union is delicious and reasonably priced. A no brainier in my book!

Yelp
Went here on a Sunday afternoon on Father's Day. Booked a table on Open Table when we were 15mins away. Got seated right away. Service is good. Our waitress/server was a really sweet young lady who made some recommendations and came and checked on us a few times. She proactively refilled water too. We wanted a light afternoon snack since we had dinner plans. We ordered the Chow Mein and then a few dumplings. I rate my food based on how flavorful it tastes without having to dip in soy sauce or hot sauce. Unfortunately, I had to dip in soy sauce and hot sauce. The inside stuffing of the dumplings didn't really have much taste and was fairly bland. I know people rated this highly and I do feel bad rating this a 3, and perhaps I'm not a dumpling expert (I know I'm not) but I hope that chefs start to think the way I think. Soy sauce and hot sauce does not have to go with everything to taste better! If the meat inside the dumplings was even slightly spiced, this would have made a world of a difference. But a main reason for the 3 is this: Take a look at the receipt picture I included. The suggested tip on top of the total with y tax!! 18% of the food amount of $36.40 is $6.55 not $7.12!! I do not like when businesses do this to squeeze unaware customers. It's deceitful IMO. The people need to earn their tips.

Yelp
Can't wait to try more things here! I walked in on a Friday afternoon after a haircut in the neighborhood. I felt bad because they were closing soon, but they were happy to seat me, which was soo nice since I hadn't eaten and was craving homestyle Chinese cooking. I ordered the beef noodle soup which came out piping hot! You can see the steam in the photo... the soup was amazing, and the noodles had the perfect texture. I wish there were more greens, but the spice and warmth were perfect. They sat me and within 10 minutes of ordering I was being served! I was alone but they have tables inside and a couple outside too. Seems like a family business and was very glad to support!

Yelp
I've gotten take out here a few times before, and recently had my first experience dining in. My friend and I stopped by around 8pm on a Thursday. The restaurant was still quite busy but we were seated quickly. Dumpling Union is a wonderfully decorated, intimate restaurant. Ordering is by phone, and the food comes out really quickly. Green beans- 5/5 crispy and delicious! Spicy pork xlb- 5/5 soup inside was delicious, purple color was fun, skin was nice and thin Beijing noodles- 3/5 really wanted to enjoy this but it was so salty Shrimp dumplings-4/5 a hefty amount of shrimp per dumpling, but $9 for 3 is a bit much Molten lava custard bun- 5/5!!! The best. It's rare to find a yolk custard bun where it's just the right consistency. Overall a nice experience. Would recommend if you're looking for food quickly or for a nice night out.

Yelp
Service was not great as the server often expected us to move the dishes to make room for more. When the server was cleaning up, things would fall off the plate and even stained one of our pants. Pork XLB - flavorful and had a good amount of soup to meat ratio. The skin however was a little rubbery. Combination XLB (pork, green onion, tom yum) - the Tom Yum stood out the most since it was most flavorful. However, the skin was a little rubbery. Kimchi fried rice - the egg needed to be fried a little more as the egg white was runny (I love the yolk runny but not egg white). The rice was mushy but I did like the pieces of pork belly. Fried string beans - personally this was the best dish for me as it was flavorful and crispy. Secret chicken wings - even though it was coated in a sweet chili sauce, it was still crispy. This was the second best dish of the night. The chicken was juicy and tender. Shrimp toast - lacked flavor. I only tasted the mayo that was drizzled on top. Spicy wontons - skin was super rubbery and thick. The filling was good and the sauce was decent (wasn't spicy tho). Dan Dan noodles - I liked the addition of spinach because it makes it feel healthier. It definitely needed more sauce as it was a bit bland.

Yelp
Just your average neighborhood dumpling spot. It's not the best dumpling but it's good enough, service is always great and the prices are reasonable.

Yelp
This place is great! Dumpling Union wowed me with their delicious renditions of some of my favorite dim sum classics. The Sichuan Hot & Spicy Dumplings (I think I've seen these referred to as just Spicy Wontons elsewhere) had the perfect amount of lightly numbing Sichuan spice and chili oil flavor. Can't go wrong with these if you are into Sichuan spice. They also have terrific barbecue pork buns and delicious xiao long bao. The Spicey Xiao Long Bao was not only my favorite dish here, but the best xiao long bao I've had anywhere. I'm serious. The flavor of the soup inside of these is incredible and way more complex than anything I've tried before at other spots. I only ate here a couple hours ago and I'm already craving them again. The nice thing about Dumpling Union is that they do a bit of everything and they do it well. I am looking forward to coming back for more!
