Dumpling Xi - Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Dumpling Xi, a Chinese chain with 800 locations across Asia, has their second NYC location in the East Village—their first is in Flushing. They make nine different versions of dumplings filled with things like pork and celery, shrimp and chive, and curry chicken. They’ve got a few other things on their menu as well, like soup pots. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

Okay, confession time: I was skeptical. Can a famous Chinese dumpling chain really translate its magic to Manhattan? Let me tell you, Dumpling Xi absolutely does. Walking in felt familiar – it's the real deal, the same brand I know from back in China, and crucially, the taste is spot on. First things first: forget those sad, frozen dumplings you get elsewhere. The freshness here is next level. You can literally see the team making them to order behind the counter. That "xiàn bāo xiàn zhǔ" (freshly wrapped, freshly boiled) promise isn't just a slogan – it's their whole vibe. You taste it in every bite. The dough has that perfect slight chew, and the fillings burst with flavor because they haven't been sitting in a freezer for months. My go-to is always the Shrimp & Veggie (虾三鲜). And folks, they aren't messing around – there's a whole, plump shrimp right there in the middle of each one! Seriously satisfying. But my personal favorite has to be the Fish Roe Dumplings (鱼籽水饺). That unique pop of briny flavor mixed with the juicy filling? Heavenly. If you like a kick, don't sleep on the Spicy & Sour Fish Fillet (酸辣鱼片). It's got that great balance – tangy, spicy, and the fish was super tender. Honestly, the quality across the board is just excellent. Beyond the dumplings (which are obviously the star), the vibe is clean and efficient, and the staff were friendly and helpful when I asked for recommendations. Watching them hand-wrap everything is kinda mesmerizing too! Bottom Line: If you're craving authentic, high-quality, truly fresh Chinese dumplings right in the heart of NYC, Dumpling Xi is the place. It delivers exactly what the brand is famous for in China. No shortcuts, just delicious, honest food. I'm thrilled they're here and I'll definitely be back soon – that Fish Roe craving is already hitting me again! Highly recommend!

Pros: If you are craving for warm dumplings which are light to your stomach, easy and fast serving food, this is your place to be. I ordered the chicken and corn and shrimp and chive and it was delicious. Great quick stop by for an evening run. They also have other items on the menu. Would definitely come back again. Cons: Slightly limited menu.

Stumbled upon this because of my friend and we decided to check it out. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. All the dishes were clean and well looked after. Food didn’t take too long since it wasn’t busy, but we chose a spicy & sour broth with fish fillet. Plus a small bowl of rice and pork dumplings. I was pleasantly impressed with the spicy & sour soup, it had such a good flavor. The soup wasn’t too spicy but the sour flavor reminded me of lime, which I’m personally accustomed to. I loved the veggies and the bit of noodles it had. I definitely would’ve loved more noodles. Dumplings were freshly made and hot, but it was just as delicious. I would love to come back and try their chicken broth soup!

My new favorite dumpling spot in the East Village. Their steam dumplings are pillow-y soft and fried dumplings are perfectly crispy. Loved their braised chicken leg hot bowl, so tasty and tender. Great prices too for so many in-house, freshly made dumplings. Comfortable, spacious seating. Friendly service.

I am so excited that this dumpling chain has now has a location in NYC!! I got the shrimp/fish roe/pork dumplings and the tossed lotus root shaped noodles, and the flavors reminded me exactly of their delicious counterparts in China. I ordered this to-go and the packaging is perfect for transporting boiled dumplings. The partition in the middle of the container helped keep the dumplings from jostling around or sticking together– everything was perfectly presentable by the time I was ready to eat. Service was great. I can't wait to make this a regular lunch spot!

Hasan was a very good host. We ordered shrimp with chives and egg. We also ate beef with vegetables and pinto beans. Very good food. You can have a host to serve you utensils, or you can also self serve your food. Overall a nice experience.

I finally found my favorite dumpling from my childhood and hometown of northern China. Open kitchen make the food right in front of your eye. Clean and neat. The flavor is authentic, fresh and brings all my childhood memories back. Like the ratatouille for the food cretics in Disney cartoon. Definitely will take my kids here.
