Duo Modern @ Market Hill

Always love Duo Modern. For starters. I love the atmosphere. Beautiful art everywhere. Great lighting, and comfy seating. Attentive service. Cocktails are delicious. I liked the tequila based drink with Tajín. The food was wonderful! I got the 1/2 chicken with a side of chimichurri potatoes. Great flavor and not dry. Husband got pasta. We love it here and will definitely be back to try other things on the menu.

To find Duo: from the parking lot, find the big cowboy statue. Go down the hall left of him, and you'll find Duo on the right. Everything about this place is awesome. Food, atmosphere, service are all top notch. Especially good are the fresh bread loaves and butter served at the beginning of the meal, and the bacon burger. Broccolini and venison sausage were good too. Enjoy!

We had an early dinner at the remodeled and now reopened Duo Modern in Market Hill, Round Top, Texas. The interior is attractive, the food excellent with a mostly new menu, good wine list and generally good service. We live fairly close and it's nice to see Duo Modern back open.

Duo Modern @ Market Hill is the place to eat in Round Top. We drove from Houston just to have dinner here, and it was absolutely worth the drive. Jake Michael was incredibly friendly and truly made our trip special. For shareable starters, we had the whipped feta with honey and pita, along with the grilled olives. Both were fantastic and immediately got our taste buds going. For dinner, I had the branzino with roasted Brussels sprouts, while my husband enjoyed the roasted orange chicken with maple butter carrots—everything was so delicious. We also dined with our son and his fiancé, who enjoyed the short ribs and Italian sausage flatbread. Again, absolutely tasty! We originally came looking for a place to host our rehearsal dinner, and we found it. Duo Modern may be an intimate restaurant, but it can easily accommodate our large group of 45 guests. We’re looking forward to our rehearsal dinner and sharing this wonderful restaurant with our family and friends as we celebrate the upcoming nuptials.

If you've been to Round Top, you've most likely been to the amazing Paul Michael Company store, Market Hill or been to the Holiday House in the back (if you haven't, go). Duo is the restaurant on site and provides a great option for dining for folks who are out and about shopping and locals alike. Due to the size of the dinner I was planning for Round Top Film Festival Duo provided a beautiful option for an elevated private dinner. I went through all the pictures online to find menu items from Duo and asked if they could be an option for the menu. Jake and Chef Gino were able to accommodate. The plating was beautiful and I'm sorry, I can't seem to find a photo of the main course which was tenderloin to share, but guests said everything was delicious. The group was large, over 130 and the Duo team were gracious enough to move the tables around a few times to make sure we could fit everyone comfortably. The service staff, small, but might worked the room and worked together to make sure drinks were in hands and courses were delivered. It was an exceptional night and so thankful for Jake, Chef Gino, the entire kitchen and service team, Paul, Elizabeth, and Debra for making this event happen. It was truly a team effort. If you get a chance to dine at Duo either for lite fare, lunch, dinner or a private event, you are in good hands! #chefkiss

The new and upgraded Duo is absolutely incredible. It’s elevated while also being welcoming. Food was incredible, cocktails were amazing. Highly highly recommend. Daziah made it such a wonderful experience for us! Will be back soon.

We originally came to try the oysters. They no longer serve them, but the owner or manager (i dont know who it was my apologies) gave our baby some mashed potatoes... they were the best I have ever had. Because of that, we ordered the ribeye to try .. it was absolutely amazing. Our waitress made me a very tasty martini as well. We will be back.

We were looking for a nice place to celebrate a birthday close to the round top. We went through reviews and gave this place a try. We were really lucky we picked this place. On special request they took care of espresso martini and it was really nicely done. The food was amazing. We enjoyed our entire lunch experience. On my request to take care of my partner's special day and they took care of things. Service is really impressive. They run a pet friendly place. I will visit them often.

The food, presentation, and atmosphere were ALL beyond our expectations....and we are huge foodies! Chef Gino has a gift....and it is to make sure customers have a great experience!

I highly recommend stopping by. The bar program and wine selections were phenomenal. Also, the service was excellent. I look forward to coming back.

The food is sub par and their staff is arrogant. For $25 you get a mediocre meal and with their Senior staff, you get tons of arrogance. There are several better choices in the area.

Tasteless, unseasoned, bland. The shrimp was mushy and obviously frozen. The meatballs were dry, hard and impossible to swallow. I have dined here several times but I am always disappointed. Beautiful setting however. Maybe i will come back for a drink, but dinner? Pass. Not again.

Beautiful property. My lamb was super tender but a little on the salty side. The chicken was seasoned great and the salads are fresh and tasty. The bar is adorable but them need stuffed olives (not black) for martinis.

Food is no doubt excellent but service needs to be improved. Waitress brought only one page listing available wines (and we later found out she forgot to bring the second page). When our bill was brought to us we submitted our credit card (which they ran at the bar) but waiter forgot to return our credit card when he brought the receipt. As said, the food was very good but servers need to be better trained.

Duo's is in Market Hill in Round Top, and is kind of the Flagship restaurant for the whole complex-- and holy moley is it good!!!!!!! We came here as a group of 3 on a recommendation from some girls at Marburger and came in during one of the antique fair's buffet nights. Living in Vegas and LA, I've experienced my fair share of buffets-- (my hips definitely do not lie lol), and I can say-- this is one of the best buffets I think I've ever had. There was a miso type glazed fish which was incredible, veggies, meatballs, a truffle and mushroom risotto, cauliflower-- It was so delicious. Gino was working, I recognized him from doing research before we came, and as far as QC, he has that on lock!! The food was delicious. I know it was buffet dining, but it tasted like a meal prepared to order. I overate, hated myself, and would do it again. Thanks so much for a fantastic meal!!

DUO, the restaurant in Roundtop, just called the sheriff on us because we were eating too much food at the all you can eat buffet. I can't make this stuff up!! Now mind you, all they had left was beef fajitas for 5 TOTAL SERVINGS AND A BURGER! After a lengthy conversation with the sheriff and his deputy, we were told that we can never come back to the restaurant. Prior to the sherrif arriving, Paul Michael of Paul Michael Company --- who never introduced himself but is the owner --- proceeded to tell us that we took too much food! When we first arrived, I asked when does the buffet time end and the cashier said "soon". As soon as we got to the buffet line, the staff started taking food up. So, I started loading several plates because the staff wss literally picking up the food in the buffet line and throwing it in the trash. Did they intend to use the buffet line food again after being out several hours? The sheriff was very nice and was almost laughing because I asked him how he was going to write this report up. We had dinner Saturday evening for a special family occasion. It was awesome as always! The service was over the top! The chef and proprietor, Gino, who is super friendly, personally greeted us on arrival. Everything was great!! Can't say enough good. 5 stars are not enough for this place!!

I seriously loved the ambiance and staff. Let me start by saying they were amazing. The three of us spent almost 5 hours there last Friday. But within 90 min of returning home the two of us that ate the seafood starters had the most violent food poisoning I've ever experienced. I tried calling and emailing from who was listed but I couldn't reach anyone. I ended up having to get two bags of fluids I threw up so badly for 12 hours. Just stear clear of anything that isn't cooked well.

This place is the absolute best restaurant in the Round Top/Carmine area. It is pricey but a cut above anything else there. The atmosphere is lovely, the wait staff, owner, and chef are friendly and welcoming. We had the short ribs and risotto which is rich and delicious with layers of flavor. Also the salmon with tomato purée sauce which was the best salmon I've had. A mini pizza for appetizer. Cheesecake for dessert. All terrific. The chef came out and introduced himself to us and thanked us for dining there as did the owner. Very professionally run outfit. We will be back soon!

One of the best brunches I have ever eaten. Reasonably priced. Service was excellent. The ambiance is perfect for Roundtop.

This restaurant was beautiful and the food was amazing. I got the chicken quesadillas. Basic meal but it was delicious. The beans and rice that came with it were just ok. Lots of peppers in the beans. The service was just ok. Pretty slow and the waitress was also the bartender. She took our drink order and had to go make them before taking the food order. We were a bit annoyed but the food made up for that. Jacob helped us and also gave us the best recommendations for other restaurants and bars to visit. He said the brunch here is amazing and has bottomless mimosas. We may come back!

The food and service were AMAZING! We had the Fish and Pork Chop and a bottle of Rose. What a treat!! We can't wait to go back.

What a hidden gem in Round Top, Texas! The food is outstanding and the staff is friendly. They have a full bar and delicious food. Try the enchiladas and tacos if you go for lunch!

Great food. Great location. But the girls at the bar are just terrible. They want nothing to do with customer service or with helping anyone. They refuse to assist with anyone and stick up their nose. I want to love this place but it's hard.

Food and service was excellent as always but please do something about your ac. Couldn't stay a while and sit and enjoy the meal because it was just too hot. Will check before returning if in working order. Heard this has been a problem and not corrected for a while.

Read previous reviews and decided to stop for lunch on our visit to Round Top. The restaurant is unusual in that it is located inside the Paul Michael Company antiques/home furnishings building. Tables and chairs one sits on are actually for sale, food is cooked behind a diner counter (location previously served as a PM Company cafeteria). Menu varies daily and is displayed on an electronic board. Flat rate $16 fetched one a house salad and an entree. We ordered the Kobe Burger with fries, chicken quesadilla, and vegetarian and mixed meat El Norte Taco plates. Portions were more than generous. Initially we were a bit skeptical as service related to drinks and the offerings themselves were a bit under par - later learned the restaurant is new and still settling in. And looking at the menu, wondered if we had made a mistake - "Tex-Mex" at $16 an entree? However, once the food arrived and we tasted it, our opinions changed drastically for the better! Food was nothing like the Tex-Mex we were used to in Houston...it was modern Mexican in character and composition; fresh, incredibly tasty, and unusual with welcome touches such as beautifully spiced fries, great dressing on the wonderfully tasty dishes, and superb homemade spicy habanero salsa (bought two quarts to take home). Service was friendly and superb...subsequently went over to compliment the Executive Chef/owner, Gino Llanes, and had a great chat with him about his background (he was head chef at Caracol in Houston) and his/his partner, Nate's journey to the present location. A wonderfully bold experiment by Gino and Nate, hoping it will thrive/prosper - restaurant has been open for 3 months and as things settle down, it should progress as a local landmark! Wow! Wow! Wow! The food, the team, the atmosphere - all exceed expectations. We enjoyed delicious mussels, refreshing salad, a chef surprise of fresh lobster ravioli, buttery sea bass & a customized pork chop with a side of lamb chops. The sauces were fresh & just completed the meal. Each dish was prepared with attention & heart. Gino & Nate & their team are so kind & really build relationships. The space is quite unique - very comfortable & cozy on a chilly winter evening. Highly recommend!

Oh my! What a incredible brunch. Every thing was outstanding. The tender pork with pozole, the eggs, the sausage and the beautiful fresh salads.J just to name a few of the delicious items offered. The ooey gooey chocolate cake to die for!! And you can't go wrong with the $18 bottomless mimosas. Be still my heart, I can't wait to go back. Do yourself a favor and get here as fast as you can. Excellent job to the entire crew at Duo!! Kudos to y'all.

We enjoyed a couple of Bloody Marys and shared the tempura fish tacos for lunch. Hands down the best fish tacos, beans, and rice we've ever had.

We live nearby in Ledbetter and we're excited to have a new place in the area. Unfortunately the service was awful and kitchen hit and miss. The salad that was supposed to have blue cheese and had none. We tried to flag someone dow to no avail (later the owner offered to bring some blue cheese with our entree - what am I going to do with that). When the owner brought our entrees I asked for a glass of wine that never came and had to go to the bar. Food is fine but service is the worst in Round Top (and that is saying something given how abrasive Armando is!).

We come here every week for date night and it's always a great time. The staff are what give this place its fun friendly atmosphere. The food is always great, but especially try any pasta on the menu.

The food and drinks are absolutely amazing! I had the Salmon and it was perfection! The spicy foo foo drink is a must too!

I've been several times now - I love this place! Great atmosphere and it's full of locals every night. I have tried several salads, the red snapper and the beef short ribs. All have been outstanding! Nate and Gino have a great operation and a great staff!

The only thing that beats the food is the ambience and the teamwork of the owners working with the staff like a well oiled machine. On our recent trip we ate at Duo's 3 times! Each time the food was excellent, well prepared and presented and our waitresses Vivian and Alex were attentive but not overbearing. We were impressed that Nate not only greeted guests but was often seen clearing tables and serving dishes. The sea bass, branzino and soft shells were cooked to perfection and our fish tacos at lunch were as good as any we've ever had. We highly recommend Duo's both for the food and the overall experience.

Brunch on Sunday at Duo is becoming a must and a staple for us. It's amazing and delicious! Bottomless mimosas! Fresh food! And dinner here is always a curated incredible menu. We love Duo!

Does not disappoint!!! Brought our artsy friend here to celebrate the big 5-0 and everything about this place hit home. Menu had something for everyone, large portions. Wine list was amazing, just like the vintage decor surrounding us. Wait staff was knowledgeable and helpful in decision making. We'll be back!
