Chef Nik Forsberg's Pittsburgh Travel Guide | Bon Appétit

"I find Duo's Taqueria — the Duolingo cafe where my friend Marcella Ogrodnik is the chef — to be unexpectedly excellent: the menu leans higher-end and very seasonal Mexican, the Duo bird on the menu is goofy but I don't care because the food is consistently so good, and the chef is clearly talented." - ByWilder Davies

Google
Delicious and authentic Mexican food in a small and cozy restaurant under the Duolingo headquarters. All the food including the tortillas and chips are made at the restaurant. The restaurant does not have a big duolingo theme, but more of a modern cozy vibe. The tuna tostadas were delicious, the tacos, flautas and guac were also amazing. The churro was good but a little undercooked in the middle. Overall a really great experience serving authentic mexican food that might take your taste buds outside their comfort zone.

Google
BLOWN AWAY! Everything about this restaurant was perfect. The guacamole and chicharrones with jalapeño was incredible. Me and my party of 5 were truly caught off guard with this restaurant. We were all boy excepting such greatness. GOAT tacos were mouth watering. Chicken flautas are also a must try. But the best part of the meal was the churros which was the best churro I have ever had in my life. Thank you for such a perfect meal.

Google
Freshly made and flavourful guac. They refilled our chips after we finished with our first round. The burrito was absolutely delicious too and I’ve never tasted such a yummy green sauce that came with it. Went on labor day and overall a pleasant experience. It was overpriced in my opinion but worth a try

Google
Yes, you read that right—Duolingo, the language learning app, has a Mexican restaurant- Duo’s. And surprisingly— It’s not just a gimmick. Duo’s delivers authentic flavors in a warm, modern space that feels like a curated escape. The staff was welcoming, the cocktails were elevated, and the overall vibe was inviting—definitely built for groups, date nights, or anyone chasing a polished experience. I came specifically to try the suadero tacos—after eating my way through LA’s street taco scene, that cut has become a personal favorite. Unfortunately, they had just pulled it from the menu. I pivoted to the Al Pastor, and it was solid. Nice flavor, good execution. But here’s my honest take: the tacos are street-sized and priced like fine dining. If you’ve been in the taco game for real— and enjoy Spanish/Latin culture and food— not just riding the “Taco Tuesday” wave—you’ll know what I mean when I say— you’re going to Duo’s for the experience, not the value. The food is authentic, yes. But the pricing— Not so much. It’s A la carte. Which pulls away the true authenticity of Mexican / street tacos. Would I return— Maybe, if I’m in the area. It’s worth visiting once just to say you did.

Google
Duos is located in East Liberty. I the guacamole was freshly made. The flautas were good too. The goat birria was delicious very flavorful, it was served with five of the smallest tortillas I’ve ever seen, and toppings, and you build your tacos. The menu is kind of small not many choices, everything I ordered was tasty. The prices are high, the portions are small, but overall good experience

Momo

Google
octopus was very good- great flavor and crunchy potatoes too. Didn't like the bean sauced up chicken as much tho. Had good flavor just didn't like sauce as much.

Google
The food here was amazing, the guac y totopos were SO good (we got them güero style) - so many wonderful flavors in one dish! I also got the mushroom tacos (with the crunchy cheese), and those were delicious with fun textures throughout. I was well surprised with how good everything was! They also make their own masa in house so the tortilla chips were nice and crunchy and substantial. Would recommend this place to anyone, it's also cool seeing the Duolingo offices right next door.

Google
I’ve been using Duolingo for years so imagine my surprise when I was invited to eat at the cafe with my aunt… the goat birria is a 10/10! The self construction makes me even happier. The horchata was also amazing! The service was really nice. You have to try it out! The guacamole was a nice surprise! We added extra lime and it kicked it off ☺️

Yelp
This was a long awaited visit to a place that we were so excited to check out. It did not disappoint. While I would've expected, there would be a casual multinational food court because that would be more along the lines of Duolingo's style, this authentic Mexican restaurant was amazing. The service was impeccable, and the food was really top-notch. These were not your regular American tacos or American chips and guac. We had flan for dessert, following flautas, well spiced tacos, and super fresh appetizers. Believe it or not the founder and CEO of Duolingo himself was casually hanging out at the bar enjoying his evening. I was honored to be able to have a few quick complimentary words with him. If you're in the area or if you're a fan of tacos, check it out.

Yelp
Duo's restaurant is owned by the educational-technology company Duolingo. Its website says that it serves foods inspired by Mexico City and Mexico's 31 states. Examples of menu items are tacos, shrimp cocktail, flautas, NY strip prime, rotisserie chicken, goat birria, octopus, and flan. Options are available for meats, seafoods, and vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free foods. This restaurant also has a bar that serves cocktails. My husband and I ate one lunch here. Our hostess/waitress provided timely and friendly service. Considering that my husband is of Mexican descent, and we have eaten authentic foods in several Mexican cities, here are my ratings for what we ate here: Tostadas de Atun - 4 stars - Big eye tuna crudo, avocado, salsa negra, and sesame seed were atop tostadas. The spiciness was moderate. My husband took a couple of bites, and I ate the rest. Quesadilla de Col Rizada - 4 stars - A large tortilla was filled with kale, queso oaxaca, chivo blanco beans, and salsa ranchera. I thought that this quesadilla tasted good. Tacos de Cachetada - 3 stars - These soft tacos contained prime ribeye steak, costra cheese, salsa crudo, asada onions, and cilantro. My husband called these tacos "bland," and he used my salsa to add flavor. In addition, the tacos were soggy. The total price for this one appetizer and two entrees was $50 plus tax and tip.

Yelp
Another excellent visit here, though upon my second visit there are definitely a couple of things I think could stand improvement to make this five stars. Still love the vibe and love the tacos! I got the oyster mushroom tacos again which are an absolutely amazing vegetarian choice. My friend got the al pastor tacos and was very happy with them. On my last visit we got the queso fundido, which got very hard if you let it sit for a minute. This time we got the guac, which the server recommended with a special preparation that included some salsa with jalapeños and the queso. It had an underlying smoky flavor and was delicious, and hot when you hit a jalapeño. I liked it a lot and liked that the server proactively brought us more chips so none would be wasted. I ended up taking the leftover of this home and it was just as good there. I got an Agua Fresca as I did last time and these are nice choices as nonalcoholic drink options. A couple of small misses here. First, being a Duolingo concept, this place has no right to be such a fantastic restaurant, which it truly is. One of Pittsburgh's best. Still, you come here as a Duolingo learner wanting to feel connected to the concept in someway and the only connection is a neon sign of Duo at the entrance. I feel there should be some tie to the learning via a QR code or something special to make you feel engaged if you are a Duolingo learner when you are here. I currently have a streak of over 1000 days and feel very connected to the learning and the company. Also, the dessert menu is only three items none of which got us particularly excited. The dessert menu could use a little upgrade to make the end of the experience as great as the rest of it.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food, including tacos and more meaty main dishes. Gigantic portions for a fair price. Nice date night vibe but also some larger tables for groups and families. Our server told us that the street food portion of the menu would have smaller and sharable plates. They were sharable but not small! The chips and guac are a formidable starter; very dense chips and a heaping mound of guac. The tuna tostadas are filling as well. Nice change of pace to have raw tuna on a menu with many other cooked meats. We also got the flautas, which are chicken stuffed hard-shell tacos doused in salsa verde. They were humongous and delicious. The order came with two and I could only eat one by myself. We also got a side of frijoles refried black beans to take home for our 9-month old (great baby food!). We would have been stuffed after those sharable plates. But we thought we must try a main dish and ordered the pollo rostizado. It included four large pieces of chicken (two breasts, a thigh, and a drumstick, from my count). I mean, that could have been our dinner in and of itself. The chicken was very tender and juicy. My only constructive feedback is that some of the dishes were too saucy. The flautas could have had half as much salsa verde and still been delicious. The chicken came on a bed of black beans, but those were washed away in an ocean of sauce.

Yelp
Booked my reservation through the Resy app and had the BEST time on my solo date night! From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted and made to feel so welcome. The host showed me to my table and even pointed out the restroom; those little touches really matter. Even though the restaurant was fairly busy, it took no more than about two minutes after I sat down for my server to greet me. Water was brought immediately, poured for me, and my glass stayed full the entire night. I let both the host and my server know that I was visiting from California, that it was my first time in Pittsburgh and my first time at Duo's and they were beyond friendly and helpful, which made the experience even more special. My server, Shayla, was absolutely AMAZING. Her passion for the menu and Duo's concept was contagious. She took the time to explain how the ingredients are locally sourced, with some items flown in directly from Mexico, and she thoughtfully walked me through all the pork-free options. Her energy, knowledge, and attentiveness truly elevated my night. Sinead also stopped by to check in and ask how everything was especially the dessert and she was just as warm and welcoming. The Tamales de Cacao were TO DIE FOR, and the churro was incredible as well. For my main, I ordered the Birria de Chivo an easy 10/10. The blood orange margarita was spectacular, perfectly balanced, and so refreshing. The ambiance and service was absolutely unreal hands down the best I've had yet. This was the perfect solo date night: great vibes, amazing service, delicious food, and such a fun, welcoming atmosphere. I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
When you drive by, you may not know what's inside. But what's inside is a lot, and it's very good, too. First off, the decor is very cool, and the music is authentic Mexican. The hosts were very warm and welcoming. The food was delicious and it came out fast. They have a nice collection of Mexican sodas. There are booths, tables, bar seating and lots of outdoor seating. I heard employees of Duolingo eat free on Wednesday nights, so everything was hopping. I'm a Duolingo customer, so this was a fun evening for me. I think anyone would enjoy it here

Yelp
We came here for happy hour/dinner and really loved it! Beautiful ambiance inside - dark greens, wood, and plants. They have a big circular bar where you can sit at and plenty of tables inside. Some tables outside too but it's nicer inside. Olivia was our waitress and she was wonderful. Such a fun energy and she gives you her honest opinion on dishes/drinks. We got the happy hour margaritas which were $8 each. They were really good! We loved them. We got the tostada de atun to start. Wow, this was a highlight of the meal! Truly such an amazing flavor. Not your typical "tuna tartare/crudo" dish, it packs so much flavor... it's smoky, it's creamy, it's got a little bit of a kick. I would order these again in a heartbeat. Then we got the broccolini a la blancha. Beautiful presentation, it's topped with pistachios and edible flowers. Really nice dish too, very tasty. Then we got the al pastor tacos - it comes with three. They were also great. The tostada de atun was definitely the standout, but we enjoyed everything. Great meal - thank you!

Yelp
The food was great I've been wanting to try this for a while and I'm glad I finally got the opportunity to. From the front door it doesn't look like much but it opens up and we sat upstairs it looked great. We started off with guac, tartare tostadas, and my girlfriend got the salad. Everything was excellent well balanced and refreshing. Birria de Chivo is the main dish we ended up getting. Honestly the best Birria I've had in Pittsburgh and the Flan and Churro for dessert topped it all of absolutely amazing! And the bar had a liqueur that's been evading me and the bartender knew how to make it excellent service right there.

Yelp
Who knew you needed a Resy table reservation for a rainy Monday evening! Luckily for me and my friend (who recommended this restaurant after eating here before), their bar offers full food service and had two seats together available. We should have know it was busy when the nearby metered street parking was full. It's a dimly lit warm ambiance and the staff were very welcoming. I enjoyed their take on shrimp cocktail as a starter. Small plates add up the tab. But the octopus dish was a star!
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyable experience. Nice to go with a group and share some small plates. I did not love My cocktails and that bummed me out because I took my time to choose them. They have a list of what felt like one million mezcals but only one cocktail with mezcal. I also want my cocktails served with straws. The flavors accumulated at the bottom of my drinks and it altered its taste and presentation. I ordered a michelada and it came separate. My entire beer did not even fit in the glass. I prefer my cocktails are already made for me. The plantain cake slappedd and I loved the broccoli dish too. So creative and flavorful Our server was patient with us because we took forever but was also attentive and never disappeared, great service. The interior and two floors gave a tropical, cool, calm feeling. Loved the decor and design.

Yelp
Both dishes had loads of flavor, I wanted to ask for both sauces in to go containers! The Al pastor tacos paired great with the fresh mango habanero, but it wasn't spicy at all. The tacos dorados were delicious, a crispy potato (looked like mashed and then formed into a log then fried) in a tortilla with a bold salsa on top. Service was fine, staff was friendly and on top of things.
google avatar

Marlee B.

Yelp
Duo's pleasantly surprised me! I had a Brazilian limeade (a bit too sweet for me), queso with chorizo (a great app!), Al pastor tacos (I loved these + great for sharing!), and the chicken entree (stand out dish). For the entree, the staff recommended shredding off the bone and making tacos. The chicken was extremely tender, and the sauce was tasty. The only odd thing was that when I arrived they said bar seating was the only option, however the restaurant wasn't during my 1.5hr spent there. If you're going with a group I recommend reservations for any night of the week.
google avatar

Olivia A.

Yelp
Duo's is so cute! I went on a Monday and it was pretty empty, but still enjoyable. There is little to no relation to Duolingo besides the name and logo. We ordered queso, tacos, drinks, and a free birthday flan. The queso was delicious, although I was not a fan of the grilled cactus on top. I ordered the al pastor tacos which were delicious. I did not like my drink (Attic Queen, I think?), but I think that might have been order error. Our waiter was awesome and made great recommendations and explained things. All in all, a good experience and I would like to go back!
google avatar

Lena Y.

Yelp
They have a fun loft space upstairs that can gather a private party and it was a great area for a twenty two people birthday celebration I hosted. The two tables took up half the room, allowing the other half to stay open for cocktail hour mingling. They are really easy to work with and to this date make the best flan I have ever eaten - I ordered that as desert for everybody and it was devoured by all, including the dairy evaders :)
google avatar

Tammy L.

Yelp
Love coming to Duo's! Especially how kid friendly they were for beautiful space. They had good high chairs, and sat us upstairs in a nice and bright space (seems to be where the families get put). This time we tried the birria de Chivo (smoked goat birria) and it was incredible. Comes with a side of tortillas, rice, and a platter of toppings. Also don't skip the beef tartare appetizer!! When we come back, we'll definitely have to get both of these items again.
google avatar

Marla C.

Yelp
Went and sat at the bar with a friend. It was busy so I would recommend making a reservation. The staff was so nice and helpful. We got the guacamole to share and it was so good. I loved all the fresh jalapeños. I got the beef brisket tacos and my friend got the Al pastor. We both added crispy cheese and this is a must. I absolutely loved my tacos. And my friend loved hers. We then got the churro to split. I personally didn't like the chocolate sauce but the churro was good. I will definitely be going back for those tacos. And to try more of the menu.
google avatar

Liz G.

Yelp
I love the food and vibe here. We came last night for dinner. The host and server were both incredibly sweet and welcoming. We got the cóctel de camarones, trio of salsas, fish tacos and kampechi pescado. For drinks we had mezcal old fashioneds. Everything was absolutely delicious!! You can taste the freshness.
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
Gorgeous ambiance! I would highly recommend trying Duo's which is the restaurant attached to Duo Lingo. I wasn't sure what to expect but was blown away. The tacos were exploding with flavor. Very high quality ingredients. Our waitress was attentive and even offered us a free hot chocolate for Day of the Dead.
google avatar

Karen H.

Yelp
We went to do dinner at 6:30pm on a Wednesday and it was packed, especially the bar area! The inside is charming with a cute bar area and tables downstairs and upstairs. Our server was super nice and did a good job with suggestions. We got entirely way too much food and too many drinks and all of it was pretty good! I will note, the tamal de cacao dessert looks unappetizing but tastes absolutely delightful.
google avatar

Kelli C.

Yelp
My roommate and I have been dying to come to Duos and we finally got to go! The food was absolutely incredible and so fresh. Some of the best tacos ever! The aqua fresca was delicious and so refreshing. The service was incredible! Our server, Phoebe, was so attentive and helpful. Everything about this was a wonderful experience and I cannot wait to go back!
google avatar

Ashley P.

Yelp
Everything here is so good! The service was quick and our waitress was very friendly. She explained anything we had a question about. We got there for happy hour and some in our group got the paloma, while I got the pomegranate agua fresca with rum. Both were delicious. For food, I got the pollo rostizado (and forgot to take a pic). Omg, the chicken was cooked perfectly - it was tender and flavorful and the sauce complemented it so well. Everyone loved their meals, no complaints! The desserts were also great - we shared the flan and the almond plantain cake. We were scraping the dishes to get every last bite - so delicious! Between the group, we tried several of the signature cocktails also and all were made really well. This has been on my list to try for a long time and I'm sad now that I've been missing out for so long! We'll be back again for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
The most incredible meal I've had in Pittsburgh. Such fresh ingredients, bold flavors and prompt service! Our waitress Kat gave wonderful recommendations, everything was delicious. We happened to go on pupusa night, where instead of tacos being on the menu it is pupusas, and I would recommend going on a Monday to experience this! The cold asparagus salad was probably the best thing I've ever eaten and I will be thinking about it for days. A beautiful restaurant, definitely go!

Yelp
July 2025 Jueves cultural. Nice place, chill vibe. Very American , no Latin vibe. The food was ok. Taco al pastor was what one would expect. Red rice excellent. Black beans were a miss. Guacamole was uneventful, just ok. Portions are small. The kind of place you'll want to order several things to share. Best of the night was the Thursday margarita for 8 $ Really like the staff- door greeter, bar tenders, GM all very personable. The tacos and tortillas caught me by surprise. Very thick corn tortillas. Tasty and new. Prices are higher than usual for Latin food and portions small. I was surprised that the chicharones were not house made. Been there once, not likely to return. Need more Latin vibe

Yelp
Here's a polished food review for Duo's based on your notes: Duo's - A Flavorful Taco Gem Duo's delivers big on flavor and freshness. The brisket and al pastor tacos were standouts--each bite packed with juicy, well-seasoned meat and balanced toppings. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender, while the al pastor had just the right kick of spice and sweetness. The guacamole was bright, creamy, and clearly made fresh to order--no shortcuts here. And the tuna tostadas? A surprise hit. Crisp, light, and topped with perfectly marinated tuna that brought everything together. If you're looking for a spot that nails both classic and creative bites, Duo's is worth a visit.

Yelp
When I read about this place opening, I thought it was just a window to order at - was very pleasantly surprised to see the dining room! Vibes are very fun and cute, not too many tables crammed in so felt intimate. We ordered the salsa y totopos, lengua tacos, and suadero tacos. I also got the cocktail named where there's smoke, which had carolina reaper infused benedictine. My takeaway is that everything we ordered was VERY spicy, which is probably authentic. It was delicious but def something to be prepared for if spice isn't your thing. The lengua tacos were something I had been wanting to try for awhile and they were my favorite, the suadero tacos were a bit too heavy for me. Our server was so nice and friendly. It happened to be dia de los muertos when we came and even got a complimentary dessert and beverage. Overall we had a great time!

Yelp
o m g! I've been wanting to try Duos for a while and omg it was amazing. The service, ambience, food... everything! The location is pretty hidden in the strip on Penn Ave but it's a must try! Honestly some of the best tacos I've had in the Shadyside/oakland/east liberty area. Everything was also super reasonably priced. The Suadero tacos and white fish tacos were both phenomenal, very different vibes from each other but both so so so delicious. I can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
What a terrific little find in East Liberty. A beautiful restaurant with the most kind and knowledgeable staff. The guacamole was tasty and the salsas were so fun to try! The totopos (tortilla chips) were much thicker than I am used to but they were tasty and homemade. The fish tacos I got were so good and I could have ate 12! A smaller menu, but great variety. Go try out your spanish and enjoy a lovely meal.
google avatar

Hadley Z.

Yelp
Fun little spot for an upscale casual dinner! Our server was attentive and gave great recommendations. We tried the queso, tacos, and they even give you a free dessert for your birthday.

Yelp
We stopped into Duo's for a date night on a Saturday. We made a reservation for 6:30, but had to change it at the last minute to 7:30. Duo's was very accommodating and we were able to be seated right away when we came in. The space itself is luxurious and cozy. I love the low lights, it definitely sets a mood. We started out with some drinks. My date got the tepache and I got a margarita. Both were delicious. We got the Caesar tostada as an appetizer. I ordered the suadero tacos and my date ordered barbacoa. Everything we consumed was soooo good! The food, service, and space are top tier. I'll definitely be back. Ps- this spot is derived from Duolingo. You can order in English, or you can practice your Spanish and order in Spanish! Cool concept!

Yelp
Drinks were delicious. Food was delicious. Only downside, the shells split pretty quickly. Also they do play music with a DJ on some nights so plan accordingly if you're not interested in that vibe. We also had the ceviche which was interesting and delicious and the salsa flight which was good but a little spicy for this incredibly white girl
google avatar

Yelp
I think it's so interesting that not only does Duolingo operate a Mexican restaurant in Pittsburgh, but that it's an extremely good one at that! Honestly, it may be the best Mexican restaurant in the city - if you're craving some authentic cuisine, you must check it out! For starters, I like the vibe here. We went on a Friday night, and they had a DJ bumping tunes that transported me straight to Tulum. The waitstaff are so friendly too and never left us waiting for drink refills nor did they rush us with food or anything like that - we took a good bit of time with our apps but they waited until we were done before bringing out our entrees. Sooo many places nowadays just bring out your entrees whenever they're ready, regardless of if you're ready for them or not. It sounds like a minor thing but that kind of attentiveness really does stand out to me and makes for a great dining experience regardless of the food. Luckily though, the food itself also stood out. We started off with the guacamole, queso, and ceviche, all of which were perfectly prepared. The ceviche though was definitely my favorite - it was made with coconut milk and the first time I've tried a creamy ceviche, and it was so refreshing and delicious! The tacos were also very good - even after all the apps we had, I had no trouble polishing off my suadero tacos. I only wish I had opted to get cheese on them - my husband got it and said that they put the cheese on first and melted it into the taco, which sounds fantastic. Dessert was good as well - we got the churros and tamal de cacao, both of which were surprisingly light and easy to eat after our big meal. They're definitely less sweet than most desserts, but I liked it because it allowed the flavors of the chocolate to shine. Overall, I really enjoyed checking this spot out and recommend you do the same!

Yelp
I personally think Duo's Taqueria is a hidden gem and closest thing you will get to authentic Mexican food in Pittsburgh. If you are looking for Mexican food that is not super Americanized, this is the place to go. The guacamole was fantastic, with the perfect consistency, and the barbacoa was amazing and great for sharing. We also tried the suadero tacos, but they were devoured so quickly that we didn't even get a chance to take a picture. I was half-expecting more owl-themed decor given Duolingo's meme status on TikTok, but the references are very subtle and tasteful. The ambiance is more of a classy establishment, with soft and flattering lighting that adds to the overall experience. The waiters are attentive. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend Duo's Taqueria for anyone looking for top-notch Mexican cuisine in Pittsburgh!

Yelp
Stopped on a Tuesday evening. We had made online reservations beforehand and got seated quickly by EL, who was super friendly and gave a great vibe that was inviting and made me want to be there. Decor is clean and relaxing. Got there by the end of their happy hr, which is 6:30. Ordered margaritas, and they were great. Both hubs and I ordered tacos, I do not speak or read Spanish, so for me, the menu took some effort even though ( could totally just be me) there is English in the description. I am not sure of the name, but I got the beef tacos and hubs had the pastor. The food is definitely delicious, no questions. Our waitress Phebe was great and informative. The only downside really is that $15 with a $3 fee for cheese for 2 street tacos is way more costly than it should be. For $18 for 2 street tacos, can you at least add chips or an ice cream scoop of rice?

Yelp
Okay was not expecting this restaurant to be as good as it was! Two friends and I stopped by on a whim on a Wednesday night and were able to get seated without reservations but it seems like most nights you might need a reservation. We got several dips to share and they were all fantastic- the guacamole was perfect. We all got tacos and they were delicious. Service was great. The atmosphere was warm and lively. Perfect spot for catching up with friends or going on a date. Can't wait to go back during their happy hour!

Yelp
Cool Mexican restaurant with a nice vibe inside. We had reservations so were seated right away. Menu is a bit limited with tacos being the main dishes. We started with the Tacos Dorados, which is basically like taquito's. We really enjoyed this dish! For our entree, we went with the Suadero and Al Pastor tacos. You get 2 tacos with each order. My son and I split so we got one of each. Because the tacos are so stuffed, they are a bit hard and messy to eat and the homemade corn tortillas tended to fall apart a bit. Between the two, I preferred the Al Pastor while my son preferred the Suadero. I felt the Al Pastor was a bit more flavorful. For dessert, we went with the warm churro. Dessert was good but note the chocolate sauce is rather bitter. The Mexican coffee however was very delightful with hints of orange and cinnamon.

Yelp
Duo's was above my expectation. I was expecting it to be like an educational restaurant/cafeteria because of it's proximity to Duolingo (was imagining their employees eat there for work lunch kinda vibes) but it was more of a fine dining experience. I've been a few times and there was always something new and interesting on the menu. Many times I came back wanting to try a dish, only to find it already replaced. I am pleased by this, however, because this reflects the great work on behalf of their team. They are quite literally always cooking something new up in their restaurant! Service is always phenomenal. Their team knows the menu well and make lovely recommendations. One of my favorites is their chicken. Juicy, well seasoned, with a sweet and crispy skin. It comes with tortillas which I am not a big fan of (too floury) but I can tell they make it fresh. The beef tongue tacos were also delicious but I believe it was a seasonal item that has now retired. One feedback I did have is for their fish. I felt the flavoring was great but the fish itself was very over cooked, making the meat a bit tough to eat. Drinks are also great, offering a wide variety of classic and original creations.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday and sat at the bar. Had the best time. Cocktails were inspired and refreshing. Everything we ordered came out hot and it was great that the staff explained to us a bit about what we were eating. My favorite appetizer was the tacos dorados because they were exquisitely crispy and hot in the center while covered in cold salsa. Also highly recommend the pork tongue/cheek tacos.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in Pittsburgh! I had heard good things about the new version of Duo's and stopped by for the Day of the Dead -- I was in Mexico for the holiday last year. This was by far the most authentic Mexican food I have had in Pittsburgh and most of the US! Everything was so fresh and delicious. The spicy margarita was top notch, homemade salsas and guacamole were great (don't miss the chicharrones!), but my favorite was the beef tongue taco with cheese added. This was one of my favorite tacos EVER. Finally, the chocolate tamale was unlike anything I have had before and worth a trip on its own. Our server Meagan (not sure the spelling) was incredibly attentive and pleasant and the manager stopped by to make sure everything was great. 10/10 I will absolutely be recommending Duo's and returning.

Yelp
10/10 service, my group shared a large order of tacos and I asked for mine without cheese but they put cheese on it so they comped them and brought me new ones! We were also celebrating a bday so they brought out a flan with a candle out! Food-wise, the guacamole and chicharrones (10/10) were really good and I'd definitely order the brisket with cheese (9/10) again! I'm a lover of Al pastor, but these didn't hit the mark as much. It may have to do with the giant chunks of pineapple but i would try it again (7/10). What I didn't enjoy were the tortilla chips with the guacamole, and the messiness of the tacos. Things I didn't prefer but other people might are that the taco tortillas are on the thicker side and the flan wasn't my favorite but I'm not a huge fan of flan from the start! There were no deals for speaking in another language and I did wish that this restaurant had a little more duo decoration/marketing in it. The pineapple margarita was pretty standard. A fun place to check out! The tuna tostadas another table ordered looked really good too!

Yelp
I might be a little biased since I work at Duolingo, but I think the food here is awesome. Definitely the best and most flavorful tacos I've had so far in Pittsburgh. I particularly love the suadero tacos, guacamole, ceviches, and all the agua fresca flavors. I think the guac should come with more chips though, and the tacos seem to be getting a little smaller. But I still think it's worth it, especially when family or friends are visiting. It's also a really cool space! Nice design with cool lighting, vibe-y bar, and outdoor seating in the summer. Folks who work there are SO nice!

Yelp
I was entirely unaware when I made a dinner reservation at Duo's, it was a restaurant that's owned by Duolingo. Even when I saw the neon owl by the entrance, it didn't connect in my head until I was shown an article about their opening 3 years ago. 100% going back to Duo's. As many times as I can. They boast of street food from Mexico City. And if any joint wanted to charge me $15 for chips and guac, I would lose my mind. But these thick handmade chips about the thickness of a poker chip) were the perfect vehicle of the ginormous serving of guac with a generous helping of sliced up jalapeños in it. That chicken -- pollo rostizado -- was a half chicken of pure joy, I needed something to mop up all that sauce. The birria was made with actual goat -- no beefy shortcuts here! The octopus was perfectly tender and smoky. I mean, come on! Fantastic cocktails and terrific staff. Definitely going back.

Yelp
This place is my new favorite taco spot in town. I'm so excited this place serves lengua taco (beef tongue) It is cooked to perfection. I also love their interior design and staff. They're so friendly and helpful. Food was also served very quickly.

Yelp
Dúo taqueria is an excellent, up scale, Mexican restaurant in Pittsburgh owned by Duo Lingo. We've been here a couple of times. Tonight we had a couple of appetizers, drinks and mains. The Guacamole was delicious! We also got a very interesting broccolini dish with mole and pistachios. The shrimp ceviche was a bit sweet for me. The lamb barbacoa was very tasty with pickled veggies, fresh corn tortillas and a couple of nice salsas.

Yelp
The guacamole and chips guero style were excellent! I was less impressed by the birria de chivo (goat, refried beans, salsa, cilantro, onions, small tortillas, and other ingredients for build-your-own tacos). The balance of ingredients was wrong: too much meat & beans but too few vegetables. This dish was good but not great. I'll have to try other main dishes next time. The service was excellent; they checked on us promptly at our sidewalk table when it sprinkled briefly, offering to move us indoors (we were fine). Prices are high for Pittsburgh, but I'd say worth it.

Yelp
I came here with my partner to celebrate his graduation and we had a great experience. The service was incredible - our server was attentive, provided great recommendations, and gave us dessert on the house. The tacos were some of the best we have had in Pittsburgh. I especially enjoyed the churro with chocolate!

Yelp
The most authentic Mexican food that I have tried in town! My friend and I visited on a Saturday evening, and we were seated right away. We just came from rock climbing but definitely wished that we had changed into something nicer to wear given the ambiance. The suadero and al pastor tacos were delicious, and the guava pear fresca was cool and refreshing. Subtracted one star because the serving sizes were small for the amount of money that you pay. Service was friendly and prompt.

Yelp
We ordered 3 plates of tacos to share and it was just right. We had the lengua (beef tongue), Al pastor, and the fried mushroom one, and I was just amazed at how different each one was. I was expecting it to all taste similar/ have a similar base, but the flavor profile and texture of each one was so incredibly different it was such a delightful experience. The inside of the restaurant was very nice and classy as well, definitely a good date night spot!

Yelp
This was my first time eating at Duo's. I have been wanting to go here for the longest time!! The decor is very modern and clean, I really liked it. For an appetizer, we ordered guacamole y totopos with chicharrones. The guacamole was literally ginormous. Three of us couldn't even finish it!! The chicharrones were extremely good even just plain without the guac. I got a margarita to drink. It was good, nothing special. Just a normal margarita. I got the tetela for my main dish and it was my first time having it. It was made with their homemade tortilla (yes I said homemade ‍ slay Duo) filled with sweet potato and cheese. The sauce was so delicious. This dish was different than anything I ever had before. I would definitely get it again! The quality of the food was fantastic. The service was really odd. The waitress was very nice and extremely knowledgeable about the menu, but it took her forever to come to our table to get our orders and for us to get the bill. They weren't busy either so i'm not really sure what was happening lol.

Yelp
I have to say that the food is actually very good but unfortunately it is quite pricey. 2 tacos are like $14. I'm not saying they're not good but wow. But otherwise, the drinks are delicious and good price. So drinks are very worth it! There's also happy hour that if I remember correctly it's 5-6:30 with drinks being even cheaper. Try the Paloma! Our waitress was amazing and so friendly! The restaurant is also pretty inside! So in short, good food but dang pricey. Drinks great and cheap!!
