Dutch Pot Miami Gardens - Review - Miami Gardens - Miami - The Infatuation

"Think of this as Jamaican fast food. The dining room walls are painted bright red and yellow, there’s a queue railing, and even a drive-thru out back. Oxtail, escovitch, and jerk pork are piled into your styrofoam box as fast as you can point to them on the steam counter. But the speed does not compromise the quality. The steam keeps all the meat moist and the plantains sticky. They fill those boxes with so much food, you’ll want to ask, “Are you sure?” They’re not messing around. And neither is the curry goat. It’s tender, and the heat creeps up on you like a stealthy kitten. Dutch Pot has nine locations across South Florida, but this is the only one in Miami-Dade County. video credit: Virginia Otazo photo credit: Virginia Otazo video credit: Virginia Otazo Pause Unmute" - Virginia Otazo

I went to this specific location and asked for the exclusive dining experience which was upstairs! Beautiful atmosphere. Loooooved their oxtails(wish it was a bit spicier but you can also ask for some additional hot sauce), the plantains were deliciously sweet, jerk chicken was also very good. My husband ordered the platter which had the curry goat, oxtails, beef stew…. Everything was delicious and we loooved the portion! Ask for Lulu(the server), she was sooo awesome!

First time here. Customer service wasn’t the best- hate to say I had already anticipated this would have been the case. My sister didn’t want the sides that came with the oxtails and she was told they would have to weigh it by the pound then! She ended up getting the sides for cost purposes. I wanted jerk pork and they didn’t have enough. It was mid afternoon nowhere near closing. She was so non chalant about it and I had to ask her to check if more would be coming. Of course it was a no, however the food was good! Rice was tasty, buttery like and I usually hate rice & peas. Portions more than plenty! Price point, decent.

After placing my order through DoorDash and sending my elderly father to grab our lunch, he calls to 1st say they don't have our order, but Door Dash has sent the #UrfoodReady text. 2nd, they're treating him like he's begging for food instead of a paying customer! So I screenshot the order with all the info as I listen to the rude clerk dismiss my 70 year old daddy I 2way call and ask for a manager. After being on hold for 14 minutes and my dad on the phone still standing there waiting for our food, I'm fuming! He was so shocked by the lack of kindness, courtesy or professionalism from the staff or the dismissive manager. After 45 minutes, he came back with this dry chicken I couldn't eat, nothing to wash it down, and the echo in my head of how they spoke to and treated my daddy🤬 Dutchpot just be glad I was at work! #NEVER spending my money, time, or voice referring them EVER again! #CustomerServiceSucks #ManagerMadeItWorse

I went there yesterday and Ann was my server she was super friendly she recommended that I try the soup of the day which is the goat head soup and it was very delicious I also had oxtails and Rice&peas with plantains for my main . Let’s get into how clean and sanitizing this place looks this is my first experience in a Jamaican restaurant that isn’t nasty and filthy . the entire customer service here was top tier even the store manager on duty was very polite and friendly “y’all know Jamaicans have the worst customer service lol” my overall experience here was satisfactory, Will definitely try again.

Firstly, i love the aesthetics of the 2-story dining experience with bright colors. It was clean, and the service was quick. It wasn't too crowded when we went. The food was ok. I got the curry goat, and my partner got brown stew. We both got rice and peas with cabbage. The cabbage was fresh and tasty, but the rice and peas needed more peas, more coconut, and less water as it was over saturated. What happened to the plantains?? I really was looking forward to that part of my meal. All in all, my experience here was neutral, and this spot is good for dining in.

Google
For a restaurant that should be at the Pinnacle for Jamaican food in Florida, I'm very disappointed, it's as if they don't care anymore. The food looks Jamaican but smells and tastes like the chef knows nothing about the country or just made the food from some pictures he\she saw. I'm kinda embarrassed that this is a representation of my country's cuisine. Can't decide the flavor of the rice, the steam veg just tasted like uncooked oil and the jerk chicken tasted as if if was only seasoned with salt. The curry gravy was just color. Few years ago the food was way better, but I guess the focus shifted from food to financial.

Google
Big disappointment. Many popular options were not available, and the food tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. Maybe I came in too close to closing time? I'm glad for the drive-thru, but next time, I'll just get out of my car and order take out from any one of the several Jamaican restaurants nearby.

Yelp
I had a chance to stop by here finally. We weren't hungry and too early for lunch. So, we got Jamaican patties. The crust was flaky and the beef inside was yummy. I wish they put more! The lady behind the counter was not so friendly but the service was fast. The place was clean but the dinning area was plain. Most people use take out instead of eating there. I want to go back there to try their food!

Yelp
Gotta love this Jamaican restaurant for its freshly cooked food! The team is always working but honestly the service is slow. Just be ready, during the lunch or dinner rush to factor in at least a 20-30 minute wait for service. Parking can also be a challenge to be honest. Sunday brunch starting at 11am is a new service, I cant wait to try. This spot is a must dine!

Yelp
Consistently good food, it's a local franchise so it's not out of this world amazing but it's popular and consistent. Service is standard. Plenty of places to sit, has a nice Caribbean vibe on the inside.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was amazing, food was so so. We love Jamacian food in part for the spiciness and this spot didn't deliver much spice at all in tje jerk chicken. Also...no white meat at all was abit disappointing. The ladies behind the counter were amazing, the food was somewhat disappointing

Yelp
Delicious food after a hectic morning. Oxtail was a bit too sweet for my liking, but the curry goat made up for it.
google avatar

Renee R.

Yelp
Honestly if you're looking for affordable Jamaican food that taste good try Dutch pot! You can stay in your car to order as they have a drive thru! Finally a Caribbean restaurant with a pick up window! How genius! ** Be prepared to wait patiently** The food is always good and they have a massive menu of food and drinks to choose from. The highlight of Dutch pot are the $6 lunch specials that are fulfilling and tasty. ***The only negative thing I can say about them is that they are always out of steam veggies. I think it's because they rather serve that coleslaw. Please go back to serving steam veggies with each plate.***
google avatar

Yelp
I like that the food was already prepared before you arrived and there's an option for the drive thru. The oxtails were good and well seasoned. The oxtails gravy was delicious as well. The cabbage was bland and could use some seasoning. The rice and peas were okay. If I desired Jamaican food I would go there again. I like that they had sitting inside if you needed to eat your meal.
google avatar

Yelp
4 stars for the quality of food. This is the spot for Jamaican dishes. Food is flavorful, delicious and consistent every time. Meats are all tender & thoroughly seasoned - especially all the chicken (brown stew, curry, jerk) & the oxtails. I really like that the food is served at a hot temperature. Dutch Pot has one of my favorite white rices with that hint of coconut milk. I don't even order the peas and rice anymore. On the other hand, the festival (fried dough) is very sweet and quite dense. Service..... *s i g h* I prefer to go inside so I can ask for gravy on the rice to my liking but it takes twice as long to be served inside as it does going through the drive-thru. They have signs up about being short-staffed but from my observations, on the inside, it's moreso inefficiencies in the way plates are prepared. Put two people stationary on the line and it will fly. The servers get to choose how *and when* they want to make plates, so there are times no plates are being made, even with a line to the door. Meanwhile, the ONE person making the online orders has made 20 plates while customers are standing in an unmoving line. It's maddening. If the food wasn't so good, I'd leave every time. That being said, the drive-thru is a tight fit around the building but moves at a good pace and is a much more pleasant wait in the comfort of ones vehicle. Have to make mention of the $5.99 everyday special plate. It's a great amount of food for one person! This is the biggest meal deal around! Across the menu, depending on the time of day, be mentally prepared for items to have run out. It's either the oxtails or the jerk chicken. So the earlier, the better to be safe and satisfied.

Yelp
I started eating Dutch Pot a few years ago, and I must say my favorites on the menu are the Peas and Rice with oxtail or brown stew chicken, festival, and fried dumpling. One thing I can definitely say is that they fill up your plate with food, they are not STINGY! The ambience make you feel like you are in Jamaica of course, with the music playing in the background.
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
They're lucky the food is authentic and tastes good. Because the service is nonexistent. I've seen folks in a catatonic state move faster and in a more organized fashion.
google avatar

Diane M.

Yelp
On a positive note, the portions were not bad, the plantains were good and they had a nice juice selection. The prices were decent and I liked the fact that they were open on a Sunday. The stew chicken and jerk chicken satisfied our hunger, but that's about it. It wasn't horrible, but for Jamaican food, the flavor was sub-par. We picked it up and took it to a friend's house to eat it. The only hot sauce my friend had was Tabasco which I NEVER use bc IMO it's just vinegar with hardly any spice. Well, even the Tabasco made the food taste better after drowning it! If you're not used to real Jamaican food, you might like this place. It's definitely better than eating "fast food." If I'm in the area again I "might"come and try a different dish to give them a 2nd chance. But I'll be sure to bring some scotch bonnet with me!

Yelp
the worst customer service in the world will never go there again...in life i prefer golden crust my new go to jamaican spot
google avatar

Jilli C.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Went straight to the register to order a patty (as I was directed to do in the past). The cashier today (11/13- 3:00pm) refused to take my order of 3 Jamaican patties and loudly told someone else I would have to "wait for her to cash out everyone in the buffet line or I can leave." I took her advice and left and I won't be returning. I'll take my money elsewhere.

Mizzie G.

Yelp
Honestly, we went to Dutch Pot almost every day while we were in town. The food is good. The jerk could use some real seasoning tbh but portions are solid, and the prices are fair. My husband, who's not Caribbean, got a little taste of that Jamaican customer service for the first time when he couldn't make up his mind, but honestly, I wasn't shocked.
google avatar

Tawa J.

Yelp
Food was okay, not seasoned enough for me. I had the curry chicken and jerk chicken specials. Comes with rice and peas and coleslaw. The portion sizes were good, but on a busy HBCU football game day near Hard Rock stadium do you not have cabbage. I have never heard of or never would eat coleslaw with Jamaican food. I was willing to pay extra for any kind of vegetable only option was a vegetable patty which was really good, probably the best thing I had from this place. The offer a drive thru and inside dining. The drive thru is long and slow so pack your patience. I went inside and it was much faster. They do offer a solid supply of fresh local made juices which were good.

Yelp
Not to bad! Got the small ox tail and the portion was not small!! Also got the Reggae Dew

Carole M.

Yelp
The food was excellent. true true! We were looking for a curry in Florida close to what we get in Brooklyn NY. Found this spot and the food is fresh, always moving and handled cleanly. For a Trini to say that Jamaican curry goat was authentic is a big deal!! Oxtail good too. yes a little sweet for a Trini oxtail but still delicious if you are craving it. Meat falls off the bone. Those bones sucked dry after we finished with them. We going back to Dutch pot today. (hmmmm, Wonder if i can carry it back home on de plane?)
google avatar

Erica M.

Yelp
The food there is pretty good for the price. Myself and my cousin purchased the curry chicken. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either. Also purchased in my group was a brown stew chicken, fried chicken (very good) and a large oxtail plate. They did give plenty of oxtails and the brown stew was seasoned better than the curry. All in all pretty good. The young lady who took our order couldve been a lot more friendly...but it was what you expect from a Jamaican restaurant customer service wise (IYKYK)

Yelp
I've been waiting years to be reacquainted with this delicious home cooked food and it did not disappoint me. The atmosphere was vibrant with culture and the service was top notch. I appreciated the patience and ability to try out new tastes that the Dutch Pot has to offer.
google avatar

Yelp
Well to be honest, since I was in Miami I was in the mood for some good Jamaican cuisine and to be clear I mean "good", well I was slightly disappointed by what I can only call commercialized chain restaurant level food. I ordered Jerk Chicken, rice and peas, sweet plantain and cabbage, whilst the food was hot, it's appeared to not be fresh and seemed dried out. Bland and visually unappealing, it lacked the appropriate seasoning or shall "love" that I so appreciate in original Jamaican food. If your seeking a fast food experience then Dutch Pot may be for you, but if you're seeking original Jamaican then Dutch pot won't be that delicious craving satisfaction.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
This Jamaican chain is consistently delivering on flavor, timeliness, pleasant service. If o ever need a quick Jamaican bit I will close my eyes and check out any Dutch Pot based on the experience with the one off of 183 and the one of of Pines Blvd.

Yelp
I was visiting the area for the weekend and decided to stop by and grab something to ease the pain before church. I ordered a small peanut porridge and it definitely hit the spot, the staff seemed to be in great spirits for an early morning and the customer service was great.

Yelp
7/30/21 Please read my photo's for review. This restaurant is popular, so it's busy which means you will wait some time for your food. No one was practicing Safe Distancing, but all did have on a Mask. Even the workers. The restaurant is clean. Bright colors. I believe I saw Ice cream to be purchased and of course the Jamaican beverages. Would I eat there again? Yes Happy Eats

Yelp
Worst experience ever server unfriendly cashier extremely rude I went there with the intentions of ordering oxtails but looking at the lady ahead of me she ordered the lunch special which was brown stew chicken and white rice looking at the large portion she got I decided to order the same thing so I told the server I want the same thing she got but with rice and peas she proceeded to give me white rice I said I wanted rice and peas so this is my first experience they do not listen very well so when she fixed my order I noticed that my portion was smaller so I said why is my mind so small and the man that fixed the lady ahead of me he said because your pieces are larger so the server through another piece of meat on my plate okay as I went to the register to pay I also ordered a Jamaican Patty and my order came to $10.17 so I gave the cashier a $20 bill and a $1 bill and she said why you gave me so much money I said so you can take the 17 cents out of the dollar and give me a $10 bill back she said why you got to have attitude I got attitude because I'm explaining to her why I gave her $21 she said you could have just gave me the 20 I would have given you a 10 dollar bill back I said okay then just give me my dollar back which she did, so I said it doesn't matter what the customer give you what you do is put the amount in the register and let the register tell you what change to give the customer back she started speaking to me in patois and said no suh not mi, I could not believe that I have to argue with somebody at the register when I gave them the amount that I intended to give them and all they had to do was give me my change back worst experience ever I would never ever go back to Dutch pot, and besides the food is not all that good the rice is overwhelming with coconut the chicken you taste no Jamaican spices whatsoever just taste like regular American stewed chicken cabbage looks like coleslaw farewell Dutch pot I should have just went to Jamaica House which is in the plaza East of them but I just wanted to try something new never again first and last she gave me no receipt she tied my food up in the back and I asked her where is my Patty so she never put the Patty in the bag before closing it
google avatar

Jasmine T.

Yelp
I must commend them, they give you enough food to kill the hunger, however not enough season so it's pointless. I had the curry chicken and it wasn't what I was accustomed to. The cabbage was very disappointing to say the least... the only thing that wasn't messed up was the plantains.
google avatar

Yamila D.

Yelp
I had been craving ox tail for a few days. This restaurant did not disappoint. I got the ox tail and my son got the jerk chicken and they were both very good. The only issue I had was the wait. It was packed inside and drive through. The pieces of the ox tail were small but they weren't cheap in the serving so it was enough.
google avatar

Sha J.

Yelp
My son has been waiting for this place to open and today I finally stopped in. Well in short the food was not good. Curry goat didn't have much flavor, oxtail wasn't tasty and they didn't trim the fat (we had a big piece which was nothingbut fat thought it was a piece of pork, yuck), peas and rice was damn near over cooked, slaw need more of everything so did the potato pudding, and the beef patty was soggy. We didn't finish half of our food, just wasn't a good experience at all.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
This franchise is outrageous. What Maps states for hours of operation the time does not add up in person or multiple platforms. First parked in a spot to walk through the front doors which were locked. Pulled up through the drive-through before "closing" and no response through the speaker. The staff walks out the door wilding out but you know that's a casual thing in South Florida when your shift ends. Arrived at this location like at 10:30 got to the speaker calm at 10:50 something - online platforms address the franchise doesn't close until 11:30. That drive-through line was packed and always is. Honestly I believe the staff was putting a halt to customers orders to eat time away on the clock.

Yelp
My family is from Brooklyn NY and we grew up eating Jamaican and Trini food. I waited so long to try Dutch Oven because it's not really close to my house or job. Now I know it's worth the drive! I love the drive thru option because it's safer and more convenient now with covid. We ordered Oxtails, Curry chicken, and a side of Mac n cheese and beef patty. The food was so good, and my mom who is picky loved the oxtails so much she kept saying "mmmmmmm" I wanted a spicy beef patty but they were sold out so I will have to try again next time. The regular beef party was good buy not flaky and favor full like the ones from Flatbush Ave. In Brooklyn. Not sure if they have coco bread but I will ask on my next trip.
google avatar

JazzJ J.

Yelp
I always order from this location and it's always been on point, but for the last 2 times I've ordered it has been a disaster. I ordered a curry chicken dinner, brown stew chicken dinner and an oxtail dinner. The curry and oxtail dinners we good, but the brown stew chicken dinner was terrible. How could the not see the chicken was burnt . So in the garbage it went. My family and I had to improvise and share the other 2 dinners. It will be a while before I order from this restaurant again.
google avatar

Abiola M.

Yelp
Food was very tasty Had jerk chicken peas n rice cabbage the size portion was very fulling for size small ... its well worth 40 plus miles drive there
google avatar

Tanise M.

Yelp
Since this location has opened, it has remained consistently busy. And that is because........their food is the closest to what you'll get in Jamaica! When you arrive you'll see the drive through wrapped around the building. Masks are required to enter. My favorites: oxtail, fried chicken, stew chicken, and their rice and peas (yum)! Thank you for consistently serving delicious, fresh food while being severely understaffed! Hope you all get a raise-you deserve it!!!!

S R.

Yelp
I went here with a family member for the first time and ordered the Oxtail. The food was very good and you do receive very good portion sizes. It can be pricey especially for a group order but the food is delicious. What I would give a ONE star for is the drive through situation. It circles around the building with limited space for cars to drive around. Specifically just past the pick up window an employee with a Red Nissan Rogue foolishly parked, not in a designated space, but in the already limited space provided for cars to at least be able to drive around, if they are not making the line. As a result, cars couldn't get around and had to try to merge into the line. There were almost 5 accidents that I witnessed and one woman got out of her car and got into with someone as a result. Additionally, it took FOREVER for us to get out of the parking lot after we picked up our food. If ordering from here save your self the headache and the potential of getting your car hit, and just do delivery.

Yelp
CONGRATULATIONS VERONICA & TIFFANY-OUTSTANDING JOB!! My family and I visited from Canada this past Christmas holiday 2021. We were looking for a good Jamaican restaurant in the Miami area. After reading several reviews extensively, and asking around, we agreed settle at Dutch Pot. Yes, the line up is always present, but it is absolutely worth the wait. The food is AMAZINGLY good, and the portion size is NUFF! I was pleasantly impressed by Veronica and Tiffany. These two ladies go above and beyond to ensure customers are treaded well, and are satisfied. Tiffany is outstanding at the cash register, and makes you feel welcomed. She engages you with true genuineness. This spirit is not typical of a Jamaican restaurant, anywhere I went. Well done Tiffany! However, Veronica did something I have never seen in any other Jamaican restaurants I visited in Canada, England, U.S, Germany or Jamaica. After ordering some curried chicken with rice and peas, Veronica looked at the last few pieces of chicken in the container and was not comfortable with how it looked and refused serve it to me, so she went to the kitchen and brought out a fresh container of curried chicken that looked even more delicious. I was impressed because I though the pieces of chicken she refused to serve looked ok to me. I have never seen such high standards anywhere else, and I travelled around the world frequently. It was that high standard by both Tiffany and Veronica that moved me to take the time to write this review. Congratulations Veronica & Tiffany, because of your high standards on December 27, 2021 @ 8:48pm, Dutch Pot restaurant has a new customer for life. I will duly refer anyone coming to Miami from Canada to eat here and I am confident they will receive the same high standards I experienced. Rev. Dr. A. Michelle

Yelp
Waited 23 minutes to try and get 2 Patties and Cocoa bread. Finally walked out after still not getting order.

Arianna F.

Yelp
Great food, terrible service. Waited 45 minutes in line just for them to say the meal I wanted wasn't prepared.
google avatar

Phoxy B.

Yelp
Today I drove 15 minutes to the dutch pot to get lunch for me and my coworkers. I ordered 3 brown stew chicken and 1 fried chicken. I received the opposite and I specifically asked for steamed cabbage and like always they gave me coleslaw. I am aggravated because my coworkers and I did not receive what we ordered and it is too far and too late to return to exchange. I love the food but the lines are always long and they never can get the orders right when in the drive thru

Bryan H.

Yelp
Their customer service at the Broward Blvd. & 31st location is horrible. Your waiting another 20 mins after you've placed your order. Then when you make a suggestion abiut having two register the employee stating "I didn't finish my FCAT". They sure won't be getting my money again
google avatar

Janna B.

Yelp
after a long 12 hour shift decided to get homony porridge while eating i saw little insects floating I decided to take it back at the restaurant the servers said it's not insects it's the ingredients which I know it's insects but I felt sorry plp who will buy this porridge and don't look I'm going to contact food dept to check on the cornmeal for and insect very bad experience

Love E.

Yelp
I don't know why y'all have drive thru and it's no different than being inside... slow as. Nasty ass rice and peas ‍

Barbara S.

Yelp
My friend got a brown stew chicken, sadly cold, rice was hot however the steamed cabbage was lukewarm. I ordered a vegetable plate expecting recognizable vegetables but got a pile of rice and cabbage. I used to get the soup but the size and quality has really gone down. I live 2 minutes away and there is no excuse for cold food. When I tried to call says voicemail full. Very dissatisfied again.

Yelp
Avoid this place. Horrible service, excessive wait time. Just do yourself that favor. Small crowded and dirty. It was a waste of time and money

Yelp
I visited the Dutch pot Jamaican restaurant located in Miami Gardens Florida. This was my first Jamaican restaurant experience where there's a drive-through. The line was wrapped around the building. I went indoors to order and there was a long line inside. The line moved quickly. They offer a wide variety of Jamaican foods with a pretty impressive list of various porridges. I live in Charlotte North Carolina and it's pretty unheard of to get a Jamaican breakfast around here not alone porridge. I wanted a good shrimp dinner but was not able to locate that on the menu. it is possible if I asked for they may have had it instead opted for jerk chicken, played it kind of safe. I was a little disappointed because they ran out of cabbage so I got a cold salad instead. My husband ordered stew peas and he was pleased with his dish. He also ordered festival which was really good. I love the fact they had homemade juices and a variety of flavors. I was excited about the cucumber mint and ginger juice. I was a little taken aback of the sweetness of that juice. I would recommend adding water. Asked for service if you're familiar with Jamaican restaurants the service is pretty much the same don't expect any extra conversation or smiles none a dat. I would recommend and return.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
the greasiest ackee fish! And the dumplings were solid! Greasy n slipper on the outside but SOLID hard in the middle! Had to take a hard big bite to break a piece of dumpling. Worst plate iv ever had. And I know frozen sweet plaintains when I see them. I wouldn't recommend

Bonni M.

Yelp
I'm sick of paying for cabbage and advising clerk prior to order that place coleslaw instead wasting up my damn gas drinking from Pembroke Pones later to find out incorrect order was given . Better service needs to be provided as well answer your phones .
google avatar

Tia K.

Yelp
They close at 11pm M-F. The oxtails are good they portions are ok. The coconut water was good.

Ebony L.

Yelp
Typically Jamaican restaurants lack customer but this Dutch pot is the worse... the food is sub par and they take forever

Ms V.

Yelp
Went on 6/27/2021 , bought liver and cooked food like boil bananas and dumpling. The liver was so hard in consistency. It was either old or over cooked. I have eaten at the Dutch pot on pines by Broward college many times i think the food and service there is much better. I have also eaten at this location and the food is just not consistent when you buy it.you just don't know what your gonna get?? I agree with the previous person about them not trimming the meat at the Miami Gardens location.Someone told my mother this is what they do.We have bought curry goat full of fat also. .After this last liver episode, I'm not buying food at that location again. Jamaica House Jamaican restaurant is around the corner with better food. I would say to management, allow patrons to bring back food that is subpar , and give a refund or exchange.Train the staff to happily do exchanges without an attitude. Hire chefs that cook good Jamaican food. Your food prices are high, and so should be your standards to the public.
