D.W. French serves classic French bistro fare with a modern twist in a cozy, Parisian-inspired Fenway spot perfect for date nights.
"Nestled in Tiffani Faison’s old Orfano space on Boylston Street, D.W. French was supposed to be a bit of a branching-out moment for both Williams and the Fenway neighborhood. He told Eater at the opening last October that he wanted to apply the Mida playbook to French fare, which means taking food often presented as upscale and doing it in a more laid-back, accessible way. Beef bourguignon got remixed in sandwich form; snails were wrapped in puff pastry and dunked in garlicky butter. In the winter, the restaurant started doing steak with all-you-can-eat frites every Tuesday in the same vein as Mida’s long-running Mangia Mondays. Ten months later, the concept wasn’t sticking. 'We love D.W. French, but as a business, we need to have an eye on the future,' Williams said in a statement. 'We know MIDA will really resonate with both residents and visitors and we’re excited to bring it to The Fenway.'" - Erika Adams
"You may be most familiar with chef Douglass Williams as the force behind Mida, Boston’s excellent Italian restaurant dishing out cheesy focaccia, pizza, and plates of creamy gnocchi cacio e pepe at locations in the South End, Newton, and East Boston. At D.W. French, the chef has built an ode to French food and culture, nodding to a core part of his culinary training. The Fenway brasserie is a glamorous stop for garlicky escargot, steak frites, and regional cheese and charcuterie boards." - Erika Adams, Nathan Tavares
"For an upscale date night or special occasion. D.W. French is all about unstuffy French fare in a glamorous space lined with red banquets and minimalistic chandeliers. Sample escargot and moules frites, or put your meal in chef Douglass Williams’ hands with a prix fixe $55 dinner serving three courses of the crowd favorites." - Celina Colby, Eater Staff
"D.W. French in Boston styles itself as a brasserie serving ratatouille and trout almondine." - Jaya Saxena
"Eastern Standard isn’t the only brasserie making a splashy debut in the neighborhood. D.W. French, from acclaimed chef Douglass Williams, opened on Boylston in mid-October." - Erika Adams
