Sorry Dynaco, I was ready to like you, but it feels like you've already got too many fans, which made for a fairly cramped and hard-to-enjoy Friday night. This feels like the kind of bar that was probably a hidden gem about 9 months ago, but the word is out, and now it's full of the hipster and wannabe-hipster Brooklynites that give Brooklyn bars a bad name. Now don't get me wrong, it's not a bad bar by any means. Decent space, especially since they have a nice back room, and decent beer. But not great on either count. Friday at 9 when I got there, the back room was so crowded that I couldn't even reach my friends in the back corner. And the beer list, while respectable, was nothing special...nothing I can't find at any other bar worth its salt.
All of this might have been enough to warrant a 4-star review, if there weren't so many little things that were just not great. Things like being cash-only (not a dealbreaker, but certainly an annoyance), not having a printed beer list (again, not a huge problem, except when the bar is so packed that I can't even walk to the other side to see the chalkboard), one bathroom (so as you can imagine, pretty long line), and kind of rude clientele (something they can't control I suppose, but come on Brooklyn, try not to meet every stereotype of the broody hipster). It's also so dark you can barely see, which I suppose is probably a pro for lots of people, but was not my style. While the interior is really pretty, you can barely enjoy it with the low (mood?) lighting.
For some people, all of this might be exactly what they're looking for. For me, it was enough to remind me why I avoid Brooklyn at all costs.
