Best Restaurants and Bars With Fireplaces in NYC | Eater NY

"This cash-only Bed-Stuy bar is one of the neighborhood’s best date spots, thanks to its low-lit interior, busy but not bustling vibe, and a modern pot-bellied fireplace in the back. Stop by for drinks, a slice of cake, and lighting that helps set the right tone. Eat elsewhere, because this in not one of those bars that insists on serving hamburgers and other pub grub." - Eater Staff

The 16 Best Bars In Bed-Stuy - New York - The Infatuation

"If you live in Bed-Stuy and don’t find yourself at Dynaco regularly, you might want to consider a major life change. This bar is warm and welcoming (without feeling “cute”), relaxed but not boring, and cool enough for just about anyone. There’s an impressive beer list, the cocktails are great, and the space feels like a dark cabin in the woods. The little back room is great for a first date, although the round table at the end of the bar is technically the best place to sit. Bring a small group, and claim it." - Bryan Kim, Willa Moore, Nikko Duren

30 Top First Date Spots in Brooklyn | Eater NY

"Near the Bed-Stuy border with Clinton Hill is the dimly lit, cash-only Dynaco. It can get busy with the neighborhood pouring in, but it’s never too loud that joke attempts are missed. Grab cocktails, and sit under the bar’s soft glow for hours at a table tailor made for two." - Patty Diez

Google
Excellent neighborhood bar where the bartenders can credibly make their way through a few classic cocktails. The rooms are lovely and the fireplace in the back is perfect. I've never had it, but I'm glad to see they still always have a layer cake available on the back bar.

Google
This has been my favorite bar in Brooklyn since it opened. Bartenders are solid and consistent, the drinks are top notch but not pretentious and the vibe and music hit the spot. Also there's homemade chocolate cake!

Kate Costanza

Google
my favorite bar in brooklyn! had yet another impeccable night at dynaco yesterday. ambiance is always perfectly cozy, and the drinks + bartender were extra lovely... perhaps the best cocktail in town - a definite must!

Google
One of my favorite watering holes in the neighborhood! I frequent this place with friends all the time. Really friendly staff, cool vibes & patrons! I’m actually headed back there today!

Google
Overall rating: 4.8 I’m absolutely obsessed with this place, kinda want to gatekeep. 🙈 the music and vibe is sooo good and soo chill and gives me yet another reason why I love Brooklyn. The old fashioned is sooo good. I’m obsessed and the price is so reasonable! 🥺 is this what love is? Had to knock a few points because it’s cash only. But highly recommend!

Google
I don’t know if it is one of the best places in Brookline or in NYC, but it’s certainly one of the best places I’ve been in my whole life. All details are sooooo curated and cool. A must for any tourist

Google
Really chill, homey bar. The fireplace and decor make it a 10/10 cozy winter spot. The cocktails are good and there's some decent beer options. Staff is awesome, especially the really cool bartender(she had short hair) who let me run a tab and charge my phone while I was locked out of my apartment

Google
As a resident of a nearby building I cannot stand this bar’s fireplace, the emissions from it makes my apartment smell like wood smoke at night for months in the fall and winter. Wood burning is also extremely harmful to the environment and surrounding air quality. If they cared about the health of Bed-Stuy residents and about not contributing to existing environmental racism, they would get rid of the fire. Owners who do not care about their community PS: shortly after I posted this, the owner got really angry at me, called this review defamatory, and demanded I take it down, as if it isn’t a well established fact that wood smoke and its associated emissions are a huge health hazard 💀

Yelp
3.5 Stars This place is cute, cozy and romantic. The only real issues: the service is a bit slow, and there isn't enough seating. I would come back, but on a popular night, the drinks and music aren't good enough to warrant waiting for a table to open up. This is definitely a fun place for a date.

Yelp
This cozy little Bed-Stuy bar makes for a great date spot. The place is dimly lit and the music is just loud enough so you don't hear your neighbor's conversations but quiet enough you don't have to shout. The drinks aren't anything creative, but they're made well and they have a nice selection of beer, wine and cocktails, which are categorized by flavor profile. Grab a table in the back. The place is cash only, which is not ideal for those of us (most of us?) who aren't hitting the ATM on the regular. This wouldn't be my go to bar but you'll pretty much always be able to find a table here so you can show up at a moment's notice, grab a drink and be seated immediately, which in New York definitely counts for something.

Yelp
Recently returned to this bar for the first time in a long time, and it's still great. Used to go on first and second dates a bunch. But have also been in with small groups of friends and just did that again. Cozy all seasons of the year. Nothing special on the menu, other than the prices, which are a pretty good value. They always have cake for sale; I think I may have tried it once and not been crazy about it, but not sure, and if so, that was only one flavor--they change once and a while. Most of all the vibe is great, both early and late; I haven't been in late on weekend nights, but I think it gets a little crowded. CASH ONLY

Yelp
Dynaco is a super chill, non pretentious, cocktails bar right on Bedford Avenue. They have all your classic cocktails ready to go. All of which are spirit forward for sure. They have a long beautiful bar area, that comes with some free nuts, but it's all about the back. It's an intimate space with a fireplace, tables, and lit candles. For those who are dying for their nicotine fix or just need some fresh air, they have a small alley you can head out to. My only knock is even in post pandemic times, it's cash only. I was always about cash being king but the pandemic changed me. Regardless, it's a no frills cocktail bar making strong boozy drinks
google avatar

Alyvia P.

Yelp
Such an unassuming bar on a busy street. We love it here, but you have to get there early, as seating is limited and fills up. If you're lucky enough to snag a booth in the front, you're golden!
google avatar

Sydney M.

Yelp
Hidden gem, great cocktails, kind bartenders. Usually busy but nice outdoor seating if you need.

Fred S.

Yelp
Best bar in bed stuy! Great vibe, great bourbon selection, and sweetheart bartenders (shout-out to Blaney)

Ashley B.

Yelp
Love this place. My go to for drinks with friends and a never disappointed by the quality, vibe, etc. They have a cute fireplace and seats rotate pretty quickly. Also the cake is tdf. Cash only!!!
google avatar

Alexa A.

Yelp
Another yelper wrote this is a "no frills cocktail spot" = accurate. I had a whiskey sour - it was certainly nice but no eggs were harmed in the making of this cocktail. For $12, egg whites are not expected anyway! The door/entryway was fully camouflaged in Brooklyn backdrop drip... there's no handle? I had to call for back up to open it! Awkward.
google avatar

Yelp
A bar suited for a date, a one-on-one friend catch-up hang. The space is intimate, candle-lit, can get pretty packed and loud after 6:30 PM (for sure recommend going as early as possible if you're a deaf dinosaur like me.) They have beer and wine here, but it's definitely more of a cocktail spot. Had a perfect Tom Collins last week on a beautiful spring day and felt myself shedding my winter depression
google avatar

Judah M.

Yelp
I lived by this bar for a year without ever going into it. When I finally went it it reminded me of Texas. It felt really private and intimate. Very much feels like something on a movie where the two characters meet and have an accidental first date. It's very woodsy and dark. Like urban cowboy. It gets packed, but I like to go when it's more chill. Drinks aren't as cheap as the dive bar, but worth it.
google avatar

Reshard R.

Yelp
Where else but in NYC, specifically Brooklyn, can you get a well designed cocktail that tastes amazing along with a slice of chocolate cake. Nowhere. But Dynaco delivers and is so laid back and chill that you have to wonder for a moment why these people are in your apartment. Then it dawns on you, you aren't at home, it just feels familiar.
google avatar

Carolina S.

Yelp
CASH ONLY- what can I say about this place? Speakeasy vibe, classy, romantic, low-key with strong drinks at a good price. It feels like being in a winter cabin in the middle of Brooklyn, if that explains it better to you. If not sitting at the bar, you sit yourself but get your drinks from the bar. The back rooms has a perfect atmosphere; this is where their wooden fire place is at- perfection! P.S. They have an indoor ATM.
google avatar

Lauren D.

Yelp
First time visiting and I am so glad I did. The bar is small, but very quaint. Tonight the fire was lit and it was really great. The bartender was sweet and attentive. Even though it was busy, we continued to get great service. I can't wait to visit again soon!
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
neighborhood spot with solid drink menu - really spacious, unique style. i had the rose then the negroni. they also had some great mezcal options that looked good
google avatar

Yelp
Nice relaxed atmosphere for a night out. Backyard seating with a fire place. Cash only.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar in the world. Anytime I'm in new york I make a point to go out of my way and pop in. It's kind of pretentious (old school iPod hooked up to a 70s sound system, cash only, etc) but in a way that makes you more focused on hanging out with who you're with instead of worrying too much about what's kitschy about the place. Staff is just friendly enough to be welcoming but not too friendly where you feel like they're being weird. Nothing crazy on the menu. Nothing elaborate. I don't even think they have food. If you walked past it you probably wouldn't find it because it's so nondescript outside. They have good drinks and the wood burning stove in the back makes it smell amazing and feel warm even on a chilly winter night. The vibe of this place is great.
google avatar

Chuck C.

Yelp
This place is an amazing example of bar-days gone by. It's a "not flashy on the outside, subtle on the inside" (most of the seats, and a dividing wall are made out if old speakers), cash only kind of spot. True pours of beer (FANTASTIC selection), and homemade pie make this place a five star bar. Pro Tip: on a cold night they have a wood burning fire that makes the place warm and smell amazing.
google avatar

Chary S.

Yelp
This is my local bar. I know the guys who work there, overall friendly staff, and impeccable selections in music which contributes to the overall vibes. Cozy in the winter because they have a true fire situation and real wood burning. Can get hella warm though. Happy hour is from 7-9p FYI. Well drinks and beers I believe are $5. Can't beat that. Also, they have cake. Yes. And the flavor alternate by seasons. Right now it's a chocolate stout cake I believe. It's rich and decadent. So gewwwd. I just love this place
google avatar

Eden M.

Yelp
On a recent trip to NY I kept smelling a wood fire near where I was staying. So glad I found this amazing gem in the heart of Bed Stuy. Beware I did not see a sign outside so it was a bit challenging to find. I visited on a Monday night had a decent crowd. Nice beer selection and very nice bartender didn't catch his name but he resembled Hagrid from Harry Potter. The bar is extremely nice and comfortable with a beautiful wood bar and a fire pit in the back of the restaurant. If your in the area stop by the deli across the street they have amazing food. Will be visiting this place next time and bringing friends along.

Yelp
Came here once during late spring, and despite the fact that it was very dark and rustic inside and there were barely any people there, I had a soft spot for this place. After many months, finally came back last weekend on a cold, windy Saturday, and loved it even more. This bar definitely has a winter soul -- they have a real fireplace, a curvy, wooden bar, and it just feels very cozy, even when it's packed to the gills. Their bar stools are also very spacious and comfortable (they are more like chairs than stools), which is an important and under-appreciated feature in a bar! Love that they serve you Goldfish too -- cute touch, and such a better bar snack than pretzels or nuts. They also had a chocolate stout cake, which I was eyeing pretty hard despite being very full from dinner. May need to save some room and have a slice next time, because someone else ordered one, and it looked pretty perfect...

Yelp
My favorite mid west/ country feeling dive bar. This place just has a unique feel. There's a fire pit in back, a wall made up of old school speakers and a amazing bar. I mean one of the most beautiful bar layout in bedstuy brooklyn. This is a classic cocktail place or a beer, and whiskey neat. Music is never loud so good place to talk with friends, meet up about business or a nice date. Seats are usually a premium here so arrive before 8pm and you should find seating. Can't go wrong with a old fashion here
google avatar

Drew H.

Yelp
First - I'm only dropping 1 star because they still give out those useless straws. We all know that 3 years from now there won't be a single bar in NYC sending that steady river of plastic to the landfill/ocean. At this point having them makes you look behind the times. That said, this place is the best. They know how to pour, atmosphere is excellent - especially the back room w/ fireplace if you can grab a seat early on a cold night. Music is so on point you'll have a sore Shazaam finger. Lose the straws - get a 5th star.
google avatar

Amber D.

Yelp
Few things ignite such blind rage within me more than City High trying to rhyme "mi casa" with "hot tub".. it will never happen in Caramel or other platform-musical or otherwise. The same goes for wandering aimlessly, drink in hand, without a resting place for my laurels and said drink. This brings us to Dynaco.. In this cold weather we have been experiencing lately, the back room (where the FIREPLACE is !!) was full once I got a drink. As were the two large banquettes by the entrance. When there aren't any bar stools at this point, one is simply floating around in what is often referred to as 'backbar' land: one of standing and constant lingering- longing for a seat at the bar. In this realm it is simply unavoidable to make repeated furtive glances at the seated patrons to assess when to rush their space for an unoccupied chair. So stressful on a Saturday night for the faint of heart. Unnecessary baby whining aside, love the cocktails here and overall dark, cozy/retro vibe and will continue to come here when I have ca$h- since they are cash only. ATM is in the back. -5'5'' with (blue) eyes

Yelp
You'll be hard pressed to find a better bar atmosphere than this. I often tell people that they'll feel like they're in a 70's/80's ski lodge somewhere in the mountains the moment they step in there. The fire in the back keeps everyone warm and comfortable, adds to the romance if you're looking for a great date spot. The music is always perfect and tasteful. All of the staff are welcoming and fast with their service. Vast selection of classic cocktails. Terrific beer selection, I usually go for the Kolsch or a beautifully poured Guinness. Cash only, so come prepared for that (they also have an ATM in the back). Make sure to ask about a slice of their home made cake, made fresh by an owner's wife!
google avatar

Christin M.

Yelp
Plain and simple: this place is dynamite. Friendly bar tenders, really accommodating and comfortable vibe and sweet soundtrack (the entirety of Fugees' The Score played during my visit). Cash only though which normally I'd poo-poo but I've come to realize that this inconvenience (for me at least) yields things of quality (like this establishment). ATM conveniently located on site anyways. There's an outdoor space (for smokers) and also a cool partial wall inside constructed of old antique speakers that separates the front of the bar from the back room with a fireplace. Grab a drink and enjoy.
google avatar

Rashad S.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much when you walk past. This is a definitely a hole-in-the-wall type of spot. I've been there twice and it's always with a group of good friends. The drinks are good and fairly priced. My only issue is that it's cash only. I get it but damn! It's also pretty dark in here.
google avatar

Sahar N.

Yelp
Love this bar! We just happened to be walking by and saw a sign outside letting us know that a grilled cheese popup was serving food there so we thought we'd grab a drink and a grilled cheese. So here's my review of the bar (check out The Blue Light Speak Speakc Cheesy for a review of the food!). On the outside, you might not even realize where you are because there's no sign saying Dynaco on the outside. I actually didn't even know the name of the bar until halfway through my drink haha. But I love it. It's just so unassuming. Also, I looove the way it looks inside. It's dim lighting and great music. It's cozy and there's a wood burning fireplace in the back room. I didn't have any mixed drinks here but they had a cider on tap that I enjoyed. I'm not a beer person (except a newfound love of sours, which aren't always common) so I was pleasantly surprised to see a cider available! Bartender was nice and super chill. When we walked in, it was pretty empty but, by the time we left, it was super packed! Note that it's cash only, so make sure you have cash on hand (though they do have an ATM in the back). We also got grilled cheeses but those were paid for separately and they actually had a square card reader so we could pay with credit card for that. Anyway, highly recommend this if you want a chill spot to grab a beer, grab a bite, and hang out!

Shaun R.

Yelp
Awesome staff, awesome vibe. Cute decor and tastefully lit. Great for dates or quick hangs with a cpl of good friends.

Yelp
Cool bar tender. Old looking place. Nice drinks classic drinks and music. Sun 6:30pm

George M.

Yelp
This place is good. They have drinks and seats and groovy vibes. I would go there again.
google avatar

Christopher S.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar in Bedstuy. I came here with my friend after a bike ride just looking for a cocktail and beer. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and the bar tender knows how to make a drink. My friend ordered a negroni and it was tasty with the right portions. This is her go to drink and it's often made incorrectly with too much booze. I had a local beer on tap which was a pretty reasonable 6 bucks. Tap beer ranged from 6-8 bucks. Ample bike parking outside on railings around a tree as well as 2 sign posts.
google avatar

Sydney A.

Yelp
This place has one of the best ambiances in the neighborhood. Dim lights, custom wood bar (beautiful character), and a back room with a few tables and a fireplace. I typically go to Dynaco on a weeknight, so it's never overwhelmingly busy, but there are enough people inside that I've never seen it dead. This is a good date spot because of the energy and ambiance, and perfect for the winter because of the gorgeous fireplace. Good Bartenders, fun people. In short, you should definitely check out Dynaco.

Nikki S.

Yelp
Why was I the only patron asked to show proof of vaccination? Yes, other patrons seemed to be regulars, but not all. I was asked to show proof of vaccination before being asked if I was sitting inside or out. NONE of the other random people were asked about vaccination proof before they ordered their drinks. I was the only Black patron. Guess what? I won't be back.

Aliyah S.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar have been here for about 7 years although not a regular whenever i come it's like home. Good to come alone or on a date. Bar staff is amazing so are patrons. 5 to 8 happy hour $5 well beer and wine on weekdays. Super incognito. Plus they have a fire place
google avatar

A. Dianne W.

Yelp
Great drinks, but the cake. oh, the cake. i'm not usually much of a cake person, but if all cakes were like theirs, i would be quite fat but so so happy. Cash only, which is a little annoying, but that's the only thing i don't love about this place!
google avatar

Marzena D.

Yelp
Great little late cap bar with good lighting and laid back atmosphere. It's nice to sit at their bar or simply grab a table at the back. I came with a group of friends for a post gig drink and it was just perfect. The bar wasn't busy even though it was a Friday night so we managed to grab some chairs at the bar. They have nice selection of cocktails and wine which was just what we needed. Staff is friendly and attentive. It's a CASH only place btw however they do have a ATM inside so you don't have to sweat.
google avatar

Tudor J.

Yelp
It's hard to find a bar as nstantly welcoming and comfortable as Dynaco- hammered tin ceiling, rough sawn western cedar bar, candle light, and the smell of a fireplace burning. Good size- maybe 15 bar stools; a private 4seat table in the front room..and a cozy sitting/ fireplace room in the back. Cool people- mostly from the neighborhood. Good beers on tap. Decent cocktails. Not much in terms of wine. Great music too. Simple, easy. A great place for a 3rd date...or late night solo after doing something else. Crowd is definitely the new Brooklyn: highly educated, fairly well paid, artistic, etsy side income, good haircuts, mom might still pay the cellphone bill, funny, edgy, up for a good time. It reminds me of no name bar in greenpoint on Manhattan- which is a good thing.
google avatar

Yasmin P.

Yelp
Cute bar with an incredible whiskey selection and casual romantic but fun quirky vibe. Fireplace was the perfect gathering spot to get out of the cold! Also, they have TAMALES!!! And yes, they're super authentic and delicious. I'm sold on this funky little place!
google avatar

Erin P.

Yelp
If you are looking for an amazingly relaxed, easy going bar, look no farther than dynaco. Once you've spotted the super small signage on the front, that is. I absolutely adore this place (even if it is cash only). The bartenders are always super friendly and knowledgeable about the beers and spirits they peddle. Even if i hadn't been in a month or so, the bartender would recognize us and begin the long string of random conversation that I always ended up enjoying. They have a nice selection of beer that they are always willing to have you sample before buying a pint. They usually have a specialty cocktail that they serve. If you see Aviation, i highly recommend it. It is delicious! Plus, they give you goldfish at the bar, which is a huge selling point for me. The bar itself is very old and cozy. Low lights, slightly uneven floorboards, highlighted bottles, and a wall of speakers separating two sitting rooms. The back room offers a fireplace that, in colder months, can me smelled from a few blocks away. I love the smell of a wood burning fire. It smells like warmth and comfort. Add friends and a few beers or cocktails and I am in heaven.
google avatar

Jake P.

Yelp
When it's cold you gotta get to the back room for the wood stove. Great drinks and a cool vibe.
google avatar

Aish T.

Yelp
My new favorite neighborhood bar. Cozy, Good cocktails and you can order this yummy chocolate cake at all times of the night! Only con: it's cash only and their ATM was out of order.
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
Came here for the first time Sunday night. I never would have known this hidden gem existed except the reviews on yelp :) It has everything you could possibly want on a cold, windy day. It was toasty and dark inside, the tunes were nice and chill and to top it off, there's a funky Mod looking fireplace in the back. I will definitely return to Dynaco on another cold night.
google avatar

Will A.

Yelp
They have a fireplace, that's really all I can say pro or con. So 4 stars in winter, 3 in summer. Tap list and cocktails are decent, service is generally friendly. It's loud and there's not a lot of space to circulate. The fireplace area is nice but fills up with couples in winter. Come here when it snows.
google avatar

Kaysee T.

Yelp
Sorry Dynaco, I was ready to like you, but it feels like you've already got too many fans, which made for a fairly cramped and hard-to-enjoy Friday night. This feels like the kind of bar that was probably a hidden gem about 9 months ago, but the word is out, and now it's full of the hipster and wannabe-hipster Brooklynites that give Brooklyn bars a bad name. Now don't get me wrong, it's not a bad bar by any means. Decent space, especially since they have a nice back room, and decent beer. But not great on either count. Friday at 9 when I got there, the back room was so crowded that I couldn't even reach my friends in the back corner. And the beer list, while respectable, was nothing special...nothing I can't find at any other bar worth its salt. All of this might have been enough to warrant a 4-star review, if there weren't so many little things that were just not great. Things like being cash-only (not a dealbreaker, but certainly an annoyance), not having a printed beer list (again, not a huge problem, except when the bar is so packed that I can't even walk to the other side to see the chalkboard), one bathroom (so as you can imagine, pretty long line), and kind of rude clientele (something they can't control I suppose, but come on Brooklyn, try not to meet every stereotype of the broody hipster). It's also so dark you can barely see, which I suppose is probably a pro for lots of people, but was not my style. While the interior is really pretty, you can barely enjoy it with the low (mood?) lighting. For some people, all of this might be exactly what they're looking for. For me, it was enough to remind me why I avoid Brooklyn at all costs.
google avatar

Casey J.

Yelp
Cozy dark atmosphere and good service. Drinks aren't phenomenal but still great enough to enjoy them. Service is excellent since bartenders were attentive and served drinks in a timely manner even though they were busy. Prices of the drinks were very reasonable which is a big plus and they poor generally. Will go back there again.
google avatar

Mandy D.

Yelp
This bar has a very cozy, inviting atmosphere that made me feel like I was in local a small mountain town in the middle of the winter (though it's early September.) The bar top is made from a few large slabs of beautiful live edge wood and the decor has a very unfinished look about it. My only complaint is that the music was a little too loud to have a conversation without screaming but I did choose to go here on a Saturday night. Oh, but the most important thing is the bartender made a very delicious $10 old fashioned.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
I like this place a lot.. It's super dark and super cozy.. It definitely has a clandestine type feel as there is no signage outside and the entrance is very nondescript. You walk into a room with a couple of cozy booths by the front covered up windows and a long perhaps 28 foot wooden bar. The bar itself seems to have a lot of character. because of my terrible eyesight and foggy memory, I want to say the bar appears to be homemade or very handcrafted. But, the wooden bar and the well placed lighting added to the incredible warmth of the place. I love how dark this bar is. The lighting is super cool.. There are various forms of low lighting from 10 watt light bulbs to dim led lights perfectly placed around the bar. If you continue walking passed the bar, there is a cozy back room complete with one of those Swedish Fireplaces. The whole set up is just really cool. Cash only, drinks are very well made. I love the fact that there is no cocktail menu. They have a bunch of liquor and bitters and drink mixers and they make you a drink after having a conversation with the bartender. It's makes it a personal experience and the guy behind the counter was super nice and knowledgeable the night we went. I live in the neighborhood, I own a bar in the neighborhood, this is the place I would go for a night of drinking cocktails with a date. The night I went, i just so happen to be with my wife and we had a really fun experience.. We had a few 10 dollar cocktails, a slice of really delicious carrot cake with a cream cheese/meringue icing. The cake had a nice hit of pineapple. It was one of the better carrot cakes I have ever had. Can't say enough good things about this place..
