Incredible views of the black sand beaches and rock formations. It was some of the best scenery we saw in all of Iceland. Google said it closed at 7pm, but we still were able to see all of the scenery from the lookout points after that.

This is a very pretty lighthouse in a gorgeous setting. All of Iceland is so pretty! This spot overlooks a gorgeous black sand beach and the rock formation that is so iconic to the Vik area. There were men working at the light today and I noticed that glass in the lantern room was broken. Hopefully, she gets repaired in short order! The light is not open for climbing but its definitely worth the drive up to view it regardless. The views are outstanding and on a clear day you can see so far. There are many nesting birds among the cliffs as well. Puffins can be viewed in the evening. Parking up here is free though congested, you may have to wait for a spot. Plan an hour or so up here...perhaps longer with a walk, there is much to see.

The Dyrhólaey Lighthouse sits up on a cliff with some of the best views along the south coast. From here you can see black-sand beaches for miles, jagged sea arches, and seabirds soaring all around. It’s a simple, peaceful place that’s well worth the short drive up.

Windy!! One of the few places you don’t have to pay for parking, either by app or scanned by camera. We tried to walk here from Black Beach but found a river separating us from the lighthouse. It is worth the drive around.

One of the highlights on the whole Iceland trip. Magnificent sunset location, good chances to spot puffins, and good parking. Even the drive to the lighthouse is an attraction for itself.

A must-see spot on Iceland’s South Coast! The Dyrhólaey Lighthouse offers not only a charming historic structure but also some of the most breathtaking views in Iceland. From the cliffs, you can see the famous black sand beaches, dramatic sea stacks, and endless ocean. It’s a peaceful, almost surreal place where you can feel the power of nature. The short drive from Vík is absolutely worth it. Make sure to bring a camera—the photo opportunities are endless!

We have been there in summer and winter and please don’t skip this stop! It’s awesome! Most of the days are windy but just take your jacket and everything with you and go!
