15 Best Restaurants in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, and Agoura Hills | Eater LA

"E+ Mon was opened just before the end of 2020 by Hidetoshi Teddy Seike who previously operated Samurai in Mammoth Lakes, and he’s working with Chef Koji Miyamoto who helmed Hinomaru Ramen in Astoria. E+ Mon brings more high quality sushi options to the area and the best way to experience it for the first time is the premium nigiri sampler, which usually includes seared toro topped with caviar along with the day’s freshest cuts like nodoguro and kinmedai. Tempura and appetizers like aged miso eggplant and takoyaki round out the menu." - Fiona Chandra

Google
Best sushi you’ll find in the area. I drive all the way from Ventura to get this sushi. The best toro you’ll ever taste - it’s like butter! Everything here is fresh and excellent. I’ve paid a lot more money for way less quality sushi. This place is priced extremely fair for the quality of the fish and preparation. Pro tip: ask for the fresh wasabi. Enjoy!

Came here for lunch on a Friday and had such an amazing experience. Every roll of sushi was delicious, especially the Blue Crab + Yellowtail Roll. You can tell all the ingredients in each roll were fresh. Although the sushi rolls were great, the best thing I ate was the green tea banana pudding dessert. It was absolutely phenomenal. It was light and airy, but still very rich and flavorful. Best banana dessert I’ve ever eaten.

Service: We were with a large group They did a really good job serving everyone. So attentive and courteous. Food: The sushi is some of the best I’ve ever eaten. The Toro Nigiri is always one of my favorites. The sashimi of salmon was melt in your mouth tender and buttery smooth. All the fish is so fresh and delicious. Some of the guests do not eat raw. Their food was delicious and beautiful as well. The miso soup has loads of tofu and greens in it. Hot & comforting. The wine & saki flowed and we finished the meal with hot tea & a tasty banana dessert. Atmosphere: I hope they expand at some point because it was a tight squeeze. But they accommodated our group of about 28 people outside. The space was clean and inviting.

Where do I even begin?! This place is incredible! I have been to MANY sushi places all across the world (even in Japan) and I can confidently say this is one of the very best. The food is top-notch! Pretty much the best flavors you could ever get in sushi rolls! We ordered many different things this most recent visit to E⁺ MON - the Crispy Octopus Balls, Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, Miso Soup, Teriyaki Chicken, Seared Salmon Breeze Roll, Hot ‘N Spicy Shrimp Popcorn Roll, Westlake Spicy Roll, and finally the Green Tea Banana Pudding for dessert! The octopus balls were REALLY good - I love takoyaki and usually always try them whenever I see them on a menu, and these were the best I’ve ever had, even better than those I’ve had in Japan. The Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna was perfectly crispy, and the tuna was super fresh and flavorful. Miso soup tasted exactly like it should (just really good miso soup…absolutely no complaints), Teriyaki Chicken was juicy, flavorful and not “cheap” or “artificial”-tasting like many other teriyaki chickens I’ve had. The three rolls we had were the stars of the show! Absolutely phenomenal - so many ingredients that all went together so nicely! I can’t wait to try them again! Lastly, who would’ve thought a dessert at a sushi restaurant ends up being one of my favorite ever?! Their Green Tea Banana Pudding was incredible! Best banana pudding I’ve ever had! If you have any room after your dinner, GET THIS! You won’t be disappointed! E⁺ MON is one of the best Japanese restaurants you will probably ever go to!

Google
Probably one of the best Sushi places in the area. It is the type that generally requires no additional soy sauce or wasabi as each dish is a real work of art. The downside is limited seating and the fast turning of tables. Just order as you want it delivered. If you order everything all at once, it pretty much comes at once. Highly recommended

Google
Wow. Super fresh, high quality, excellent service and a great variety on the menu. This is the real deal sushi. Every single thing coming out of the kitchen window looked fantastic and everything i ordered tasted amazing. They do it right here.

Google
Nice, small local sushi restaurant. Service is good and food is good. Had the spicy pork bao bun and the teriyaki chicken. Others at the table had Crunchy yellow tail roll and California roll. Ingredients are fresh and well prepared.

Google
Absolutely delicious! We tried some items which I would've never considered, and it was incredible. We ended up ordering more because we had to have seconds of various items. The place also has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff is very polite and helpful. I would highly recommend it!

Yelp
Sushi dreams came true at E+ MON. Vibrant menu, melt-in-your-mouth Yellowtail Carpaccio, and a Black Cod Miso that stole the show. Service shone like the sake glasses, knowledgeable & warm. A Westlake gem for both belly & heart. 5 stars! Tips: Try the Carpaccio & Black Cod Miso, ask for recommendations!

Yelp
This is an excellent local option. I am not sure what took us so long, I think maybe the name seemed overly casual? We had some nigiri, hand rolls and cut rolls since we were with kiddo. Everything was delicious. This is not a two dollar sign sushi joint so Yelp needs to change that so folks don't bumble in with five kids. The sushi is terrific and I look forward to omakase date night. Yohan is a charming and talented sushi chef. Great options on the daily special list also! My one drawback was the heavy use of spice, I love spicy foods but it was a bit much, so if sensitive know that the garlic edamame is hot chili oil and garlic, same with spice in rolls, etc.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a while so we splurged for my bday and it was epic. Fresh, inventive, interesting, full of textures. Seared bluefin Toro w caviar is a clear, obvious winner, but the hot and spicy popcorn shrimp roll was the pleasant surprise. Sure, it was tough to eat, but it was hearty and a little messy, making it fun to eat ! Service was prompt and informative .

Yelp
Definitely one of the best sushi restaurants in the area. Using premium akazu red vinegar (considered by many to be the vinegar of choice for traditional Edomae sushi) and top-grade Matsuri rice, you can't complain much about the quality of ingredients. This place is definitely a step up from your typical neighborhood sushi bar, especially for Ventura County. I had heard a lot of good things about this spot prior to coming, so I was pretty excited to dine here. Although we weren't very hungry, and it was only a brief lunch stop, I was impressed by the small sample of nigiri that I tasted. The menu contained a lot of great options to choose from. Service was quick and efficient. I'd like to come back again for a proper dinner experience. Perhaps, for omakase.

Yelp
very intimate cute restaurant. a few tables inside and outside. the food is ALWAYS fresh and amazing here! the albacore literally melts in your mouth it is so good!! got an iced green tea as well and it was so refreshing.

Yelp
Solid sushi spot in Thousand Oaks. High quality food and the prices are reasonable. Shishito peppers - would've liked slightly crispier, but were well-seasoned and delicious nonetheless. Chicken teriyaki bowl - chicken was juicy and sauces added a lot of flavor, but felt that the vegetables were rather plain and relied too much on the sauce to taste good. Seared salmon roll - beautifully plated, and fish tasted fresh.

Yelp
It's our new favorite sport for lunch or dinner . We like the bar. The atmosphere is light, and bright. The food is fresh and tasty good value. We discover new creation every time. Ady and yohan behind the bar are great

Yelp
Decided to check this place out for an early dinner. We got there a bit after they opened and they were already busy. Would definitely recommend getting there early or preparing for a wait. What we ordered: Shima Aji - The King of Mackerel Baby Yellowtail Kanpachi Spicy Braised Pork Bao Salmon Skin Hand Roll Lemon Roll Nodoguro Blackthroat Seaperch Uni Sapporo Everything was pretty good for the price. Service was good and they cleared plates quickly. Space seemed a bit tight but they do have some outdoor seating. I'd come back for the vibe/people watching more than anything. Overall a nice experience.

Yelp
Because it was a warmer day , we decided to go for sushi and try this spot in Westlake as we saw several reviews. On a Sat few minutes after opening the place was already lively. A lot of folks were taking advantage of their patio seating to soak in the sun but we easily grabbed seats at their Sushi Bar. Being our first time we decided to try a few different items: Spicy Braised Pork Bun, Baby Yellowtail Kanpachi, Blue Crab Hand Roll, Lemon Roll, Nodoguro Blackthroat Seaperch, Shima Aji - The King of Mackerel, Sea Urchin Sushi, and a Salmon Skin hand roll (not pictured) Service was prompt and we were delivered drinks almost immediately after taking our seats at the bar and the menus and placed an order for the Pork Bun (Really worth it it's a sizeable portion for the price and the bun was very pillowy and the combination of cool/refreshing veggies with the spicy pork mixture was great, I definitely would try the pork belly one if I found myself back here). We took some time to think about what to get and the sushi chef behind the bar took our order without needing to write things down but eventually captured our order on a menu paper at the bar . I was pretty impressed because I said my order without rhyme or reason and they were able to memorize, jot it down and start working on our order. The yellowtail Kanpachi is paired with a lemon (yuzu?) Topping and was refreshing. We were served the Lemon roll immediately after and was also pleasant. This was our first bite of their rice and the roll alone was definitely higher quality ingredients than some competitors in the area. I then moved on to the blue crab hand roll which is served with avocado. They have portions of blue crab pre prepped in the sushi bar, once it came out I could tell the nori they use was nice and crispy after one bite. Overall I enjoyed this one. This then brought us to our sushi bites which are listed on their specials menu. Although the menu says 'Today's Special's' I believe these are their standard specialties. I would definitely focus on these items if you prefer a premium sushi experience and they also lost a 7 piece nigiri special which seemed to be well thought out. Anyway we had the Shima Aji, Seaperch and Uni as sushi and we generally enjoyed it. I thought the Seaperch was especially well made. I think we may have had some duplications in our sushi preparation or maybe that's their signature way of doing sushi but we definitely felt it could've used some variety. Key takeaways . For the price you are getting well prepped sushi with better ingredients than competitors in the area. Worth a try and I'd be willing to revisit if someone asked me to go.

Yelp
This sushi place is amazing! Everything is so fresh and delicious. We had a great service and we will definitely be back soon.

Yelp
Had lunch here, it was excellent. They had sushi that I've never had or even seen before. The taste was amazing and the presentation was great. The prices are good for what you get. This is my fave in the area and one of my faves anywhere.

Yelp
I had heard about this place for a while but had never made it over. This was finally the time, on New Year's Day. I was pleased to learn they were open, so off we went. I ordered a yellowtail sashimi, which was very fresh and tasty. It's so important for sushi restaurants to offer fresh fish as the foundation to anything and everything else. We ordered basic avocado rolls, and you really can't go wrong there. The lemon roll was delicious. I appreciated that they didn't slather it with all sorts of sauces. I have had lemon rolls at other sushi restaurants with heavy, sweet and filling sauces. This was light, and it gave me the opportunity to add what I wanted, if I wanted to. I also ordered the yellowtail blue crab roll. This was my personal favorite. On a few bites, I ate the yellowtail as sashimi right off the top of the roll and then just enjoyed the blue crab roll separately. Again, this was really light and fresh. The mochi ice cream was pretty standard. But I also ordered the coconut rice pudding. The top came out like a crème brûlée, that thick crust of sugar. The pudding itself was so flavorful and delicious. It wasn't too sweet but just right.

Yelp
The BEST sushi I've had in a long time! E+Mon blows away any of the sushi restaurants in Malibu, in quality, price and ambiance! Our group of 3 had a few of the specialty rolls, crispy rice and spicy tuna, and the mochi ice cream for dessert. We finished up completely satisfied and the bill was under $100! I've already recommended E+Mon to a couple of friends and will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
I HIGHLY recommend asking the server for their favorite special... e mon has so many fresh, daily sashimi options. When we were there, we tried the goldeneye with truffle oil- AMAZING. My husband and I love the hot n spicy shrimp popcorn roll and the crispy albacore signature sashimi. Service is wonderful- tiny spot, well worth the wait.

Yelp
Been hearing quite a bit buzz about this site, had to get over and check it out. Bustling Friday night. No reservations taken, so our party of five waited about 30 minutes to be seated. Ordered a bunch of various plates and appetizers. Delicious sushi dishes, with a really unique flavor. Some dishes infused with lemon zest, which made these creations pop! Next time you need a sushi fix, head to this location! Indoor/outdoor seating. Great for couples or small parties. Enjoy!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
My first time, I can't wait to go back. Fresh and tasty. Had a couple of hand rolls, a cut roll and the spicy pork bao bun (spicy and good). Heard the rice pudding was great but was too full to try. Next week.
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
The food was absolutely the freshest!! I was just in Japan and it measures up. The waitress was so great!!

Yelp
A month ago on a Friday night I was in the area and looked up sushi places and this one had good ratings so I tried it and it is now in my top 5 favorite sushi places ever. Food was so fresh and came out fast. I ordered a bunch of different sushi dishes.....mainly what other people suggested on yelp and all were amazing. But I was not a huge fan of the Crispy rice spicy tuna. Things I would highly recommend are: lemon roll, northern lights roll, tuna jalapeno roll, Spanish mackerel sushi, baby yellow kanpachi sushi.
google avatar

Elisa H.

Yelp
The folks working here are absolutely so helpful and the sushi is some of the best in the area. Although outside dining is an option, we chose to take out as we had evening plans. The food was delish, although a little on the pricey side for what one is given. Menu is limited although what is available was tasty. Check it out, see what you think!
google avatar

Courtney M.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best sushi I've ever had! A little pricey but SO worth it. Make sure if you can to sit at the sushi bar instead of a table!
google avatar

Ellie M.

Yelp
All the rolls are outstanding, personal favorites are the lemon roll and northern lights, but over all everything I've tried here has been 10/10. ESPECIALLY the soft shell crab bun, so amazing !

Misty C.

Yelp
Horrible sushi and the staff are so slow!! Please spend your money elsewhere and avoid this place. Staff looked miserable and unhappy. Appetizers took forever to come out. The food was bland and there was a hair in one of the sushi rolls I ordered! They didn't even care when I complined. Honestly go spend your money elsewhere where the staff are more nice and more accommodating.

Yelp
Location 5: Located at an upscale Westalke Village shopping center. Free surface parking. Venue 4: Nice Indoor and heated outdoor seating. Gets quite busy so be prepared to wait without reservations. Service 3: Servers are friendly and polite, but not very attentive. Food: 4: Good overall. Some items such as specialty sushi are overpriced. Wide variety of specialty rolls. Some untypical yet refreshing offerings such as Bao Buns. Drinks: 3: Beer, Wine and Sake. Also a few "Reserved" (read: Super Expensive) Sake and Wine offerings by the bottle. The Last Word: 4: We eat a lot of Japanese food and have always found E+ MON to be a good alternative place to visit for Sushi and rolls.

Maui M.

Yelp
Delicious sushi! Love this place. Only 2 places I go for sushi and this is one of them. The owner is perfectionist when it comes to food. He also owns Ox Ramen that is yummy too.
google avatar

Rochelle P.

Yelp
We had a pleasant experience here for lunch on a weekday. I was surprised to see how packed this place was, but it's also a fairly small restaurant with some really tasty food. The portions were a decent size, especially for their mixed tempura which was delicious. We ordered some hand rolls and a specialty cut roll, and everything tasted fresh and filling. If we're in the area again, I'd love to try out their other items. Decent prices, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Restroom was clean, but there's only one so you may have to wait. We ate outside due to rising Covid cases. While it was a little chilly out, they did turn on the heat lamp per my request. Ample parking. They basically hit every mark. :) Try it out and hope your experience is just as good.
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
This is our favorite local sushi place. We get take out from here at least 3 times a month. They are usually Pretty quick with takeout orders and very fresh
google avatar

Christina D.

Yelp
My sister gave us a gift card to this sushi bar so we tried it. The restaurant is clean but lay out is kind of random. We sat in a narrow section of the L by the back door. The sushi was fresh and well presented, the service was solid and since it was a weeknight the food came out fast. I did not like the Bao. It was lacking flavor and it was just a bland combination. Otherwise we would be trying this place again. A little pricey for Westlake but what isn't right now.

Great Pizza Places P.

Yelp
The best sushi place in Westlake and I have tried them all. They often have a wait of 1 hour on Friday and Saturday. No reservations, you go there and write your name down on a list.
google avatar

Fred M.

Yelp
What a surprise when I decided to try a new sushi place in the old Spudnuts Donut location in Westlake. My son and I had a fantastic omakase lunch with each dish better than the last Thi=s a true gem and we will become regulars since our favorite Kaminari (in the same center) closed a few years ago.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Stick with the sushi, and you should be OK. The uni was fresh and tasted like the sea. The E+ MON Crunch Roll was decent and since every sushi bar does some version of this, it was predictable. The takoyaki was weak and undercooked so somewhat raw inside, the bao was OK, but not fabulous, and the tempura was just mediocre. Nothing really special here.
google avatar

Rungsima V. T.

Yelp
Small restaurants with some wait. They have table at the bar, inside and outside. Food was really good. Good quality sushi. Price is reasonable. Service was decent (food took a while to come but the waiter tried their best).

Rick S.

Yelp
Delicious and fresh sushi, with some creative takes on traditional rolls. Two visits in the last week, both were very good. Check it out.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
Sushi is fresh and delicious. Can get crowded but worth the wait. One of my favorites is the seared albacore with chili oil.

Yelp
I've ordered from here twice. The first time was for my birthday last year during the co-vid lockdown. I wished to try this place out based on the phenomenal reviews. Online ordering was a breeze, and when I went to pick up the food, I was warmly greeted by the staff, and my food was all packed and ready. My family and I enjoyed the food, and I especially appreciated how well prepared the food was. Fast forward to a year and a half (today to be exact). I decided to drop by for lunch in the middle of errands. I came after 1:00 pm, and I was surprised to see how crowded it was for a weekday afternoon. Still, I managed to get a table inside. I ordered the spicy tuna roll. The food came out much sooner than I anticipated, and I really enjoyed my meal. Prices are quite reasonable for the quality of food. While the menu is not vast, they offer a nice variety of food especially with their appetizers. There is also outdoor dining. Customer service was friendly and quick. Even if you go at their most busiest times, there is always plenty of parking as the restaurant is located in a strip mall. All in all, I highly recommend you check out E+MON for awesome service and food.

K W.

Yelp
We went to there to sit down at end of sushi bars . Waitress is really attentive and very kind we are very happy with that . But abut our sushi chef was disappointed. His fish knowledge was really low also his rolls was so rough and looks dirty. His rolls has too much rice in it . I think fish was fresh but his rolls was kind of tasteless. We might not sure that want to go back again but if we want to go back for sure to pick different chef !!!!

Yelp
This was a new spot for us. They had great food, great service, cute restaurant. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Found E*Mon thanks to Yelp and it's been my favorite place for sushi since. Their location is right across the street from CVS pharmacy, in the same shopping center as Popeyes. Their service is fast and attentive, the food high quality and the prices are reasonable. The sushi rice they use it the perfect texture in my opinion. They have shaded outdoor seating in the patio and a very easy online ordering system on their website. It's easy to place an order for takeout. My favorite foods here are their Bahn Mi's, Yellowtail Cut Roll and their Green Tea Banana Pudding.
google avatar

Maria P.

Yelp
Overall the sushi was very good and I will definitely be coming back here again. We tried the scallop sushi, e*mon roll, lemon roll, along with the shrimp hand roll. We loved everything we had. The only thing I would suggest is for the staff to be a bit more welcoming. Other than that I recommend this place and would still come here.

Debbie B.

Yelp
Excellent food. Love the pot of hot green tea. Quality of the sushi is high. The best way is their banana pudding dessert. It's creamy, delicious and flavorful.

Courtney B.

Yelp
Delicious high quality sushi spot that's reasonably priced, sign me up! My husband and I have been here a number of times and we cannot get enough of this place. The truffle salmon sashimi, the truffle guacamole crispy rice and the green tea banana pudding are must haves!!! Friendly staff & good service. We will be back, again and again!
google avatar

Gina G.

Yelp
Easily one of the BEST restaurants I've been to! The food was absolutely incredible. Service was immaculate. The atmosphere was classy and relaxing. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for high quality Japanese food. Look no further.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
We had a great late dinner here when we were passing through Westlake Village after catching a Dodger game. Sunday nights are a bit slow and many businesses aren't open. Quite a few restaurants were though. Lucky us that we took a chance on this restaurant. The food was so good. The miso soup was absolutely excellent, had good flavor and wasn't gritty. Probably the best miso soup I've ever had. I ordered the ginger teriyaki chicken bowl. The dressing they drizzle over their veggies was perfect except there wasn't enough of it. I'm still thinking about how good it was. Yummmm The wait staff were attentive and efficient. Overall I think they deserve their 4.5. It would be a 5 if it were a bit more upscale.
google avatar

Bryan K.

Yelp
Stellar place!! We live in Ventura and have a "go to" sushi place that is amazing. Our daughter and son-in-law live in TO and frequent E*Mon so we decided to join them to compare. E*Mon was up to the task!! Their sushi was super fresh and could easily cut with a fork. The specialty rolls (Lemon Roll - fantastic) were incredible along with excellent standard rolls. The red snapper sushi was highly recommended and with good reason. Ordered garlic edamame which could have been an entire meal in itself. Only two disappointments: 1) the highly praised crispy rice spicy tuna was just okay; 2) celebrating my wife's bday they brought out a small bowl of what we thought to be green tea ice cream with a candle on it along with a mochi. Turns out the bowl was wasabi and did that ever clear her sinuses!!! Still, a 5 star rating!
google avatar

Will C.

Yelp
Great food at a good price point. Yummy sashimi, yellowtail, salmon, tuna. Can't go wrong with the bao buns either
google avatar

Margarita K.

Yelp
Came here for Mothers Day. Excellent food and service Looks like it's a locals favourite place for fresh sushi
google avatar

Tay N.

Yelp
This place just keeps getting better and better! Came in the other day for a quick lunch and really glad I did!
google avatar

Hana A.

Yelp
The service and ambiance are great. Even though they are usually full, they have an efficient system and keep wait listers posted with accurate wait times. Didn't love the crispy rice spicy tuna and albacore since they were pasty but the cut tuna rolls and tuna special rolls are delicious.

Jacob M.

Yelp
Great sushi experience at E Mon! Fresh, flavorful, and expertly crafted rolls. A must-visit.

Yelp
Great food service and atmosphere. Came alone and sat at the bar. Came in famished, was very satisfied when I left.

Yelp
Best sushi in Westlake Village. The Lemon Roll is one of my favorites. Customer service is great!
