East End Ballroom Brings Cocktails, Music, and Late-Night Fun to East Austin | Eater Austin

"Built for an adventure, this East Austin newcomer tucks into the former Koko’s Bavarian space between Justine’s and Central Machine Works and blends dinner, drinks, and a rotating cast of DJs and bands in a setting that feels part retro lounge, part courtyard party. Inside, soft lighting, vintage touches, and a long stone bar with plush stools sit behind pinkish‑taupe velvet curtains that reveal hidden TVs for game days, while oversized leather booths, skylights, and a custom pool table frame an airy, moody room; outside, a covered stage (with an LED wall planned) anchors a linger‑friendly courtyard. Music programming leans quality‑first under Grammy‑winning producer Jacob Sciba: East End FM dinner sets on Thursdays, live bands rolling into late DJ sets on Fridays, rotating DJs on Saturdays, and a Sunday residency from local rockers Nether Hour. Chef Colter Peck backs it up with approachable comfort and polished bistro fare—beet hummus with feta and naan, vodka rigatoni, blackened maitakes, a Nori Caesar with optional chicken or steak, and a staple double smashburger—though the standout is the $29 steak frites, a prime Akaushi cut from Artesian Ranch with McDonalds‑esque fries and sauce Diane. Weekend brunch stays playful with brioche French toast draped in brown‑butter caramel and pistachio mascarpone, Benedicts topped with prosciutto or maitake, a balancing grain bowl, and Swedish Hill pastries. The bar skews casual but intentional: natural wines, local beers, and cocktails like the East End Cooler (clarified apricot and watermelon) and Puerto Punch (mezcal, blackberry, ginger), plus a large‑format Pimm’s Cup for groups. The sleeper hit is a weekday petite‑martini happy hour from 4–7 p.m., serving three‑ounce $5 classics—a Ketel One dirty, a Still Austin Manhattan, and a Cosmo—poured into vintage glassware. Beyond the weekly rhythm, expect monthly supper clubs, sports watch parties, and one‑offs like a Peck four‑course dinner with a DJ set by Cold War Kids’ Matt Maust, or a vinyl cumbia night led by Truncha Soul’s Omar Lozano with guest DJ Adrian Quesada. Open Wednesday–Thursday 4 p.m.–midnight and Friday–Sunday 10 a.m.–2 a.m., it delivers the flexible, casual‑yet‑dialed‑in vibe that makes it easy to drop in without a ticket or reservation (walk‑ins encouraged, Resy for groups of four or more)." - Darcie Duttweiler

East Austin Cocktail Bar Ah Sing Den Is Closing on East Sixth | Eater Austin

"I remember that the address’s predecessor, East Side Showroom, opened in 2009 and was known as one of the earlier bars in Austin to focus on well-made cocktails; the Spencers ran it, closed it in 2016, and quickly converted the space into Ah Sing Den a month later." - Nadia Chaudhury

the food and bev program here is excellent and the price point is accessible to all - including young people and the far east creative community in austin. the ambiance is a vibe with the booths, the lighting, the tables, DJ and pool table. the city really needed a space like this. we had the wagyu burger for $17 that came with fries and a delicious aioli. had the gamay natural wine + espresso martini was also good and straightforward. do yourself a favor and go, you will not regret! my one humble and well intended suggestion is regarding service and communication. we came on a sat night, so naturally, the servers seem a little stressed. it was not that crowded and there was feel good music, but not loud to the point where you can’t hear. it is not clear when you walk in who the host is or if you are to seat yourself. we had to wait for a while and walk back to ask for a server. we also had three different staff members table touch to tell us the same thing. section assignments per server might help here. great spot and wishing them continued success! can’t wait to come back

We stopped in for lunch & came back for live music. The food was really good and the staff was super friendly. The burger was awesome and the chicken bites were to die for. Drinks were excellent. Sunday services with Nether Hour was so much fun. Their outdoor space is well laid out. We'll be back! Gotta try the brunch.

Way too loud. I couldn’t even talk to the person next to me without yelling. People walking across the back of my booth, while I was eating. It had a club environment, and If that’s what they’re going for, then they nailed it. But setting dinner reservations, this was the last thing I expected while eating. Outside had a much more chill but “going out” environment, however inside was a circus. Additionally, I tried several peoples plates and the food was sub par at best. Service was good though.

Google
Super beautiful atmosphere & low key incredible food. Great spot to dress up, spend some time, grab some bites + drink a few cocktails.

Google
Excited for this new versatile space! We enjoyed dinner and cocktails seated inside, but there's space for casual drinks and sounds like there will be events held here as well. Our group tried 6 or 7 plates and were impressed with all of them. Ones that stood out in particular were the breaded and fried olives, steak frites, and the basque cheesecake. The design aesthetic is very well done and there are several large tables, making it an ideal spot for large groups (8-10 people). Overall a wonderful experience and recommend!

Google
Fantastic bar with excellent live music, TVs for sports, a great indoor atmosphere, and frankly food that had absolutely no right to be as good as it was. We tried the burger, the Caesar salad, the chicken bites, the fried olives, and the steak frites and every single thing was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend!

Google
We were not greeted upon entering and had no clue where to sit or how to order. At the end of the night when trying to close our tab, we went indoors to the bar and were told we can’t close our tabs. They sent us outside to the bar. Keep in mind, there is only one bar here. It has an indoor counter and outdoor counter. They are connected. It’s the same bartenders. Why they don’t allow patrons to close their tabs indoors is beyond me considering they sent us outside to close our tab with the same exact bartender.

This place was great. Staff, service, and food was incredible. I went with a group of 6 for brunch and we were seated very quickly. The ambiance was very quirky and fun in an open layout. Food was yummy!

Yelp
This spot checks all the boxes for a laid-back evening -- dog-friendly patio, great food, excellent music, and solid drinks. The Caesar salad was crisp and well-dressed - love a miso rendition, the steak frites rich and flavorful, and the cocktails perfectly balanced. The music programming is on point, with a great selection of artists & DJs, like the Peterson Brothers and Sean the Outer Heaven owner (RIP) that make the atmosphere even better -- no surprise, since the owners used to run one of my favorite bars in Brooklyn. Perfect for a casual week night out where everyone (two-legged and four-legged) leaves happy, or a little boogie on the weekends!

Yelp
We saw this spot on social media and thought we have to give it a try. Even though it's a nice space, I don't think it's established a vibe yet. We arrived for dinner on a Saturday around 6:30 with a reservation. We had called to ask about music and they said a DJ is on before live music around 9. There was football on when we arrived, which I don't mind, but the volume of the game inside was so incredibly loud. No one could hear each other. I love a rowdy football crowd, but the volume was excessive. Then when football was done, the DJ was the same volume. Definitely a good place for a younger crowd. It was giving loud Las Vegas sports bar vibe where ppl go to be seen. Not sit down dinner with friends vibe. The prices are a bit steep for a smaller menu and it took a while to get any orders taken and out. The three stars are for the good food. We enjoyed the smash burgers and apps.

Yelp
The pros: great location close to other bars and restaurants. Clean bathrooms, several seating options (booths, tables, and barstools inside, as well as large picnic tables outside), a pool table inside, and live music outside. Also a private parking lot onsite, making it easy to park and just walk right in. The cons: SO loud. Live music outside and loud music from speakers inside, but the whole place is open so the noise competes constantly. Lots of ants outside, as well. The table we were at had hundreds crawling around underneath it. In general, it was a cool experience, but I think a few things need to be improved. It definitely is a cool spot, though!

Yelp
Went to the East End Ballroom after a run based on a recommendation. It is a dynamic new bar, restaurant, cafe and live music venue. The inside is very swanky with a bar area and large dining area. They have the largest booths I have ever seen. The dining area is adorned with mauve velvet curtains. They have a large TV that they were broadcasting sporting events. They also have an upstairs area where they can host events. We sat in the dining area in one of the most enormous booths ever! The service was very welcoming and friendly. They had a vendor on site giving free samples of a tequila sourced from cactus and we tried a shot. I ordered the white peach Bellini with for my brunch cocktail. I also tried the breakfast sandwich with brioche, fried egg, thick cut maple bacon and Gruyère cheese. The egg was cooked over easy and the yoke breaks on the sandwich. The bacon was especially tasty with a rich hickory flavor. I really enjoyed the breakfast sandwich but felt like it could have used a side. The reason I am removing a star is because we experienced several issues with our meal including: *Order was incorrect - The grain bowl ordered with steak but came out with avocado. *Missing ingredients - The grain bowl did not include the amaranth even though it was not removed from the menu. *Slow food preparation - The food took a very long time maybe due to the large event they were hosting upstairs. *Price Discrepancy - The white beach Bellini showed as $11 on my bill and $8 on the menu. (The server did comp the drink when I brought this to his attention.) This venue has a lot of weekly programming event on the website including a martini happy hour, live music and artisan market. It has a lovely outdoor space with a trellis and lots of plants. Was glad to try out a new spot in East Austin.

Yelp
We chose East End Ballroom because it was within walking distance from cabana Club, where we joined in a 3-mile run. We were very hungry! The atmosphere is very luxurious, with velvet curtains, large marble tables, and fine wooden furniture. To me, it felt a little too fancy for breakfast. It was a little pricey, but I guess in line with other Austin restaurants. I ordered the Grain Bowl: Two poached eggs, wild rice, sweet potato, kale, tahini, pickled shallots, amaranth. $13. It sounded really tasty...and healthy. You could add chicken for $6 or Steak for $8. I skipped the add-ons, because the two eggs provided enough protein. It took a while for the food to come; I imagined it was because we got there right at 10:00am, their opening time. The server kept coming to our table to check on us to see if everything was all right. The bowl seemed a little skimpy, but it looked beautiful and was very good. The two poached eggs blended well with the wild rice, sweet potato, kale, pickled shallots, and amaranth. I noticed that it didn't contain tahini, as listed on the menu. Tahini would have made the bowl more hearty, given it additional flavor and would have made it more filling. (I was still a little hungry after eating.) I inquired about the omission. The server went back and asked the chef. He said they removed it from the offering but haven't updated the menu yet. They could have mentioned that after I ordered it; maybe they thought I wouldn't notice. My friend also ordered the Grain Bowl with steak. It came without steak but with Avocado. She was okay with the mistake, as long as she wasn't charged an additional $8. My other friend ordered a Peach Bellini, listed on the menu for $9. She was charged $11 and mentioned the discrepancy. The server removed the charge completely because he didn't know how to change the price on the app. He was gracious about the mistakes. My sense is that they're a new restaurant and are working out the kinks. At any rate, it's a beautiful and spacious place. The tables are too large for an intimate experience but it felt grandiose. It would be fun to go back in the evening for their live music events. As we walked out, we noticed the lush plants.

Yelp
Loveeeee this place. The service has been impeccable the last three times we went. The vibe is awesome and very unique to the east side. Absolutely love the music every weekend, especially Sunday service! There aren't many reviews for the food here, but I absolutely loved everything we ordered... highly recommend the fried olives

Yelp
Great food and service. Liked the ambiance. Good for gluten free and watching sports as well.

Yelp
Gorgeous venue with a swanky vibe and mid century modern aesthetics. They have live music here and show games on big screens. You can rent the upstairs out. It wasn't perfectly clean but nearly perfectly clean for being a place that hosts huge events and party events. The food was great and they were able to accommodate gf and df allergies. The coffee barista made a gorgeous leaf latte art for someone. A positive experience and hope to be back for live music.

Yelp
Nice clean ambiance, delicious food, average service, but a little pricey for what you get.

Yelp
Music was awesome! Love Sunday Service with Nether Hour! This place has an awesome burger! Service is so so.

M A.

Yelp
Pros: Great service, and the food was pretty good! Cons: My friends and I were very confused at what type of concept East End ballroom is really going for. It seems to be marketed more as a live music venue and nicer bar (which is what we were looking for) but when we went for a dinner reservation on Saturday night it was a straight up sports bar. Football on every TV, drunk people screaming at the game, and the TV was SO loud both inside and outside that you couldn't hear the person next you at the table. Not exaggerating. I had to point at what drink I wanted on the menu so the waitress could understand me from a few feet away. Sadly, I will not be returning.

Ava D.

Yelp
Fun new place, live music was great and they had a great happy hour and good food We got the beet hummus, and steak frites and both were awesome Service was great

Kate S.

Yelp
This place seems to be having a bit of an identity crisis. Their social media says they are a restaurant/bar/live music venue but I feel like they should remove "restaurant" from the description. Although they do serve food, it definitely felt a lot more like a rowdy bar that just happens to serve food. We had a Saturday evening dinner reservation and expected more of a dinner spot with cocktails and some music in the background. Instead, a football game was playing with a volume louder than any sports bar I have ever set foot in. Most of the people seated at tables were facing the TVs and there was screaming, cheering and even some drunk girls standing on their booth and dancing. Even after moving to another table it was impossible to hear anyone at our table and put a bit of a damper on the night. There were jumbo speakers all over the dining room blasting the entire time. It was so loud the bass was thumping nonstop and the place was shaking. We are a group of social people that love trying new restaurants and drinking and usually don't mind places being a bit on the louder side but this was pretty insane. I will say the service was great and the food was decent but chances of returning for dinner are slim.

Bill H.

Yelp
East End Ballroom was really beautiful and the vibes were super cute! Our server Isaiah was helpful, kind, and attentive. Will definitely be back with more friends!

Ariana D.

Yelp
Amazing spot! Staff was super friendly and helpful! Management and owners did an amazing job at taking care of us! Cool gem on the east side I definitely recommend! Bartenders were super cool too!

Kaitlin S.

Yelp
Extremely confusing concept and service. No one greeted us when we walked in so we went straight to the indoor bar to order food and drinks. We sat outside and our drinks were not served to us. The bartender had to whistle and wave at us from yards away to get one drink when there were plenty of servers nearby who could have brought the one drink to us. Our food came out 10 mins apart from eachother and my friend's salad took at least 20 mins to be served. Then when we tried to close our tabs inside we were told we were not allowed inside and had to go to the outside bar. If you're going to serve us our food at our table, then bring us our check to our table too? In addition, I can't understand why after having been there for hours and buying foods and drinks, we were no longer allowed inside. There were no signs saying the indoor area was closed off or reserved.
