Every Single Eater Austin Eater Award Winner, Mapped

"Food Truck of the Year of 2011 The food truck opened in 2009, and won this Eater Award several years later as it expanded its footprint to several bars along East Sixth. The menu focuses on Japanese-ish street food like buns and fried Brussels sprouts salads. Currently, there is only one truck in Austin, parked at East Austin bar High Noon, and this physical restaurant in Zilker. Takeout orders can be placed online or in person; there are Uber Eats and Postmates deliveries; and there are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas." - Nadia Chaudhury

East Side King Review - East Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"We love The Liberty - they’ve been able to maintain affordable prices and a divey scene while the rest of the street continues to change. And we especially love the fact that East Side King is in their backyard. Grab a picnic table for your group and order off their late-night menu - the chicken karaage and pork belly buns are two of the best options." - Adele Hazan

10 Best Food Trucks in Austin

"Rockabillies, steam-punks, hipsters, cowboys—an eclectic nightlife-loving mix gravitates here—and the later it gets, the more boisterous the crowd gets, and the staff feeds off that energy. The food comes out quickly, even when it’s busy, making it an easy late-night bite before heading home. Don’t leave without the poor Qui’s buns—roasted pork belly in a steamed bun with cucumber kimchi and hoisin sauce." - Jenna Scatena

I keep coming back to Eastside King and am deeply satisfied each time. This week I tried the chef special bowl with delicious pork chunks and many side attractions. I also ordered my customary appetizer spicy wonton with hot chili oil. Great value, easy-going vibe, highly recommend recommended.

Google
Went for the very first time today and was impressed by the service and atmosphere! I ordered the Chicken Katsu Sando with fries and a Sangaria brand strawberry milk. My only complaints were that wished the bun for the katsu Sando was bigger. I also wished for a bit less mayo to enjoy the tasty dipping sauces given to me.

Google
I've been loving EAST SIDE KING for nearly 10 years. Last week my wife & I had lunch there after a long afternoon of thrifting. We shared a BENTO BOX of Thai Chicken Kara-agé , Pork Belly Bun, Brussels Sprout Salad, Beet Home Fries, & a ESK Kara Age Bowl of Fried chicken thigh, sweet & spicy sauce, basil, cilantro, mint, onion, and jalapeño. The chicken was super tender & the fresh herbs & veggies were phenomenal. I also polished off a glass of Electric Jellyfish IPA. If you're a fan of asian fusion cuisine, you've gotta try EAST SIDE KING.

Katherine Melnyk

Google
This is a nice Asian-fusion eatery. We’ve been there a couple of times, and we liked it. My personal recommendation is the Moto Bento Box—it’s really delicious, and I love that it has a lot of fish. Make sure to order the spicy mayo on the side for your salmon and tuna; it makes it even better. The Katsu Sando was also great—we enjoyed how crispy the chicken was. If you like chicken, I’d also recommend the ESK Kara-Age Bowl. It’s another tasty option.

Google
So glad there’s an East Side King on SoLa! Their beet fries are NEXT LEVEL— unlike anything my tastebuds have experienced before. The spicy Avocado buns are flavorful and have excellent mouthfeel. I also highly recommend the crispy fried tofu Curry! So many fresh herbs sprinkled on top add a punch of flavor. There’s plenty of seating— high tables, booths and four tops. The parking can be tricky, because the lot adjacent to the building will boot / tow your car (quickly) so be aware to park near Chipotle.

Google
It’s been a couple of years since we’ve eaten at East Side King. We’re sooo happy that the food is still terrific, perhaps even better! Like the items we loved since we patronized their food trucks — the Brussels Sprouts, beets — these have only gotten better.

Google
East Side King Catering was an absolute highlight of our wedding! The food was phenomenal—our guests are still talking about it—and the team was so easy and fun to work with from start to finish. What really set them apart was their willingness to bring our vision to life, including a custom boba hour during cocktail hour that was a total hit! It added such a fun and personal touch to the day, and they pulled it off flawlessly. Every dish was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented, and the service was seamless. East Side King brought the perfect mix of creativity, flexibility, and professionalism, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for something delicious, unique, and memorable for their big day!

Google
Curry had very little flavor, rice was soggy. Ironically the only thing we enjoyed was the Japanese mayo. Overall the food flavor is very subpar

Yelp
I went to East Side King on a lunch break about 30 minutes after opening and was the only one in there when I arrived. I quickly ordered and grabbed a seat and then sat around for a good solid 20-25 minutes before my food arrived. I did one of the bento box meals and overall thought it was decent value and decent flavor. Not bad by any means but nothing too special either. Would be open to trying some other stuff from the menu if I happen to be close by again.

Yelp
During spring break, my friend Tania and I decided to go for it and drove our Houstonian butts to Austin for the weekend and it just really is such a good vibe. We spent the early half of the day exploring the pop ups of SXSW weekend and kayaking that we forgot to eat--LOL. So we quickly found a trendy Asian food spot near by called East Side King. You need to drive careful as you approach their location otherwise you'll miss it. It's hidden in plain sight and there's a shared lot right next to it. Walking into this joint though just felt like one of those "I'm remembering this spot" moments, because the murals and aesthetic just welcomed you in that manner. Tania and I were H U N G R Y so we went for their classic bento. Not too long later, we were presented with a beautifully plated meal. Pork belly, chicken, salad, rice--every girls favorite qualities. The flavors were just so good and right in that cannibal-like hunger moment too. If I'm honest, as a girl from Hawai'I who moved to Texas, I really missed being able to order plate lunches. Plate lunches in Hawai'i just have the perfect amount of everything. And it made my tummy happy to have that similar feeling again when dining at East Side King.

Yelp
Used to hit up S. Lamar location on the regular and crave it all the time. Absolutely incredible dishes. Miss the happy hour but it is what it is. Popped over to the Cesar Chavez truck recently because I was in the neighborhood and had been thinking about the karaage bowl for a while. Honestly, was very disappointed. Nothing tasted fresh and it was a whole different flavor experience than my SoLa location. So while I definitely recommend a visit, please go to South Lamar or I will feel I have steered you wrong.

Yelp
I get lunch delivered to work and I thought I would try them out. I LOVED the pot sticker, the sauce they were in was great. Would definitely go in and try more items.
google avatar

Kate O.

Yelp
They have the most amazing bowls. There's a spicy tofu one that has a little bit of cilantro on it to cool it off. Also, every time I've been there, the staff has been extremely helpful and patient with all of my questions. Also, the atmosphere is kinda cool. They have tables inside, but outside in the back they have tables and even some playground equipment for the young and young at heart.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in town! I've been a loyal fan of ESK since the first time I had them in their truck behind Liberty (RIP) and am beyond lucky to live in walking distance. Also let me just say this so I don't bury the lead: UBE SOFT SERVE!! My go to order is the Classic Bento and Cucumber Salad; this will usually give me 2-3 meals based on how hungry I'm feeling. *Pro tip: mix together everything in the bento box (except the pork bun) for a yummy bowl! Classic Bento: - kara-age; sweet and spicy fried chicken bites with jalapeño and onion - brussels; perfectly fried brussels sprouts with onion and jalapeño, cabbage, and sweet + spicy sauce - pork bun; pork belly, hoisin, cucumber kimchi - steamed riced Cucumber Salad: Chopped cucumbers in a spicy garlic vinaigrette and roasted peanuts (I always ask for extra) Don't forget the Ube Soft Serve! So yummy, so velvety, so purple. Another YUMx10 dessert option: Japanese cheesecake :drool face: Fun fact: the artwork is done by local artist Peelander Yellow!

Yelp
Tried and true, Austin staple. Yummy buns and Japanese curry with chicken katsu pickled onions and greens and rice.
google avatar

Candace B.

Yelp
Chill, eclectic and homey with friendly service, this is a great spot to come and enjoy a leisurely lunch. They have a nice variety of items on their menu, and I chose the bento box with the chicken Katsu, jasmine rice, brussels sprouts, slaw, and pork banh mi. Can't speak to other days or times but this Saturday afternoon parking was a breeze. South Lamar is a vibe unto itself so on a sunny, warmer day it would be worth coming back to eat lunch here and then walk around to enjoy some of the local shops.
google avatar

Yelp
Fried chicken sando: it's a small Japanese burger. There are chicken + pickles + some sauce inside. Fresh crispy fried chicken. The burger buns are fluffy and slightly toasted. The portion is a bit small for the price.
google avatar

Derek M.

Yelp
There's something about powering through a giant bowl of karaage, rice and fresh herbs that's just extreme satisfying. East Side King's rendition still holds up after all the years, ever since my first time getting it probably about a decade ago. They also had a great tent at ACL last year which was my go-to spot for lunch throughout the festival. That said, I have had issues with gluten contamination even though they mark things as safe for celiacs and claim that the fryer is safe. I would warn against it for anyone with a gluten allergy -- as it's the main reason I can't really come here anymore, as much as I wish that I could. I actually had a safer experience at their ACL pop-up than their brick and mortar location.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this a lot. The food is tasty and interesting. I got pork belly bowl and I loved the chili relish on top. The kimchi is also very good. The clerk was friendly and helpful, the restaurant was clean. All in all a good trip into town.
google avatar

Esther A.

Yelp
I loved this place! I had a fried chicken sando which was delicious and very well fried and crispy. I also tried in order of favorite to least favorite: The Brussels sprouts salad, the chili wontons and the fried beets. Brussels sprouts had great flavor and were mixed with jalapeños, mint, cilantro and cabbage. They were toasted up crispy. The chili wontons were tasty, but i expected them to be spicy, they were not. And the fried beets were also good but they could have just as easily been potatoes. Total was around $50

Yelp
I tried it so you don't have to! Of course, you're more than welcome to sample the whole spread of plant-based options from East Side King too; there were no regrets or disappointments across the board. If you want to maximize your investment and calories though, let me give you the short cut to the very best bites. Get the tofu karaage, post haste. It's fried to crispy perfection before meeting an umami bomb combination of, garlic oil, soy sauce, jalapeno, onion, Thai basil, mint, cilantro, and sweet and spicy sauce. It's got some real kick with an herbaceous one-two punch that follows. Add in a sweet, strong Thai tea made dairy-free upon request, and now we're really talking. The pairing is a perfect study in contrasts, hitting all the right notes. I'd never turn down another serving of beet fries or an avocado bun, but these two are my fool-proof fix.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
They've gotten a little pricy, but it is still worth a trip to see the Kings at the funky little brick and mortar! Got the shrimp tempura bowl- fresh, fat shrimp coated in crispy goodness. Almost like a deconstructed tempura shrimp roll without the seaweed. Also got the pork buns- big favorite. They have a selection of beers and Maine sodas, as well as some snacks for the drive home like Pocky sticks, HiChews and gummy kitties! Service was warm, friendly, knowledgeable and fast! Be sure to ask for the chili paste- omg, could eat a bowl of it! Serious Tip: Don't park behind the building! Park to the south.
google avatar

Samantha H.

Yelp
Awesome food! Their beet fries and tofu bowl are awesome. Their food trucks are delicious too but I love the vibe so much at their dine in location. Definitely worth stopping in.
google avatar

Kelsey D.

Yelp
Got food from East Side King for lunch today, and it was good but not great. I ordered the pork Katsu and chicken karage bowls. The pork had good flavor, however was a little thin. The chicken karage bowl was on the spicier side but also good. I wish the chicken karage bowl had more veggies included other than the onions and jalapeños. However, the sauces included with both dishes were very good. Overall, it was good but a little pricey and I don't see myself rushing to return.
google avatar

Christopher T.

Yelp
This place is an institution. Their Brussels Salad [fried brussels sprouts, herbs, onion, jalapeño, cabbage, sweet and spicy sauce + fried bun] is not to be missed. The juxtaposition of the brightness of the fresh mint and basil combined with the spice from the jalapeño is wildly refreshing. Also, try the Deep-Fried Roasted Beets with japanese mayo. I haven't tried the Avo Bun yet but that sounds awesome as well. The staff is very hip: not quite as sweet and accommodating as you might hope for but still authentic and hard-working.
google avatar

Erin G.

Yelp
Food was very good and even in takeout, although I thought I'd love the karage most which was actually my least favorite in the bento box. The chicken katsu curry is excellent along with the pork belly bao buns.
google avatar

Bo B.

Yelp
Cute spot hidden in plain sight. Thought it was a tattoo spot at first and none of the foodie sites even mention this spot. Food: Pork katsu sando - delicious Kara-age bowl - decent
google avatar

Darlene B.

Yelp
We came here after a game of pickleball. We were hungry and needed some fuel before heading home. Located in South Lamar area, it's a pretty lowkey spot. We ordered the house fries (not worth the price), the karaage bowl (pretty filling), and the pork bun (prob our favorite). The house fries came with two different dipping sauce that were house made, but we didn't like either.

Brandon H.

Yelp
Love east side king been a frequent customer for years! The restaurant seems to be in some transitional period as of late possibly new mgmt? Few changes to the dishes like fried beets instead of rice in the bento. few things slipping through the cracks simple errors in food orders and general customer service for instance asked for a bigger water cup and was told I will have to pay for a fountain drink kinda lame but hoping things will smooth out with whatever is changing it certainly won't stop us coming back.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
My friends recommended this place and raved about it so we went to check it out and it was good! Food was delicious and a good size serving and the red chili wontons were delicious!
google avatar

Lan L.

Yelp
I LOVE all the paintings on the walls. The person at the desk was really helpful and nice. The food was really good too. A teeny bit too spicy, though.

Luna T.

Yelp
Two thumbs up!! The pork belly curry is phenomenal!! The staff seems super on top of it & they're really sweet! Super cute inside too! I can't stress how much I love this pork belly curry!
google avatar

Tanushri S.

Yelp
The place has got a super hipster vibe. The second you walk in you are pulled by the delicious smelling food. I would say this was a great find. Being a vegetarian having yummy Asian option is starting to become more common, but it is still hard. We tried the avo buns, the veggie bento, and the tofu bowl. Personally I would say the veggie bento is definitely a bang for you buck. You get to try a bunch of different things all at once. The avo buns were delicious and hit all the right spots, I also really enjoyed the Brussel sprout salad that comes in the bento. It was super light and refreshing. One thing I might critique this joint would be for their Thai tea, I wish it was more substantial! Felt a little watered down and powdery!
google avatar

Cathy L.

Yelp
Atmosphere - it's fun, colorful, exciting with spray painted walls, plants, and asian snacks for purchase. And you order at the counter. Service was not bad but they didn't have any spoons, only chopsticks and forks, and they had to pull some from the kitchen. Weird for a place that sells rice bowls. Wonton - not quite your traditional chili oil wonton. The chili oil was more sweet than spicy. The wontons were good but a little mushy on the inside. Generally not worth 5 wontons for $7. Pork Belly bowl - the pork belly itself was crispy, fatty and tasty, but everything else was fairly bland. The rice, kimchi, greens mix all didn't add much and detracted from the pork belly flavor. There was too much rice in portion to the tasty parts and the rice itself wasn't fluffy or fragrant, tasted like something you could cook at home. Overall, could've been better.

Yelp
Been a customer of ESK for years way before their brick and mortar store, but their parking lot is TERRIBLE. Parked in the lot adjacent to the back of the store to do a pick up (~1 min) and came back to a guy in the middle of booting my car. The signs the store has out just aren't visible enough to alert drivers - especially at night. I called in to provide feedback and was told that it's out of their control. Sad to say, but this establishment has lost my business. Have a better experience for your guest, ESK.
google avatar

J D.

Yelp
Great buffet with lots of options. Great service and tasty food. I'll be back next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Heather A.

Yelp
I don't know if ESK hires the booting company or if another private business nearby does, but watch where you park because you will likely get $100 ticket and a boot on your ride! Good food? Yes, but not worth dealing with the predatory boot & towing company - Capital - that will ruin your outing. Maybe hit up one of the other ESK spots in town. I saw a couple leave their car in a parking lot for maybe 10 seconds to see *where to better park* and a Capital employee (Roman Fuduli) ran and slapped a boot on their car. The couple was so close by, they saw Roman running and they too ran to say they would move their car, no problem. Roman shook his head and said too bad. It cost $100 to get out of that false imprisonment. The employee said "my boss calls me and then I run and put the boot on." People file complaints to the City of Austin, but nothing becomes of it. It's well known, apparently.
google avatar

Erica V.

Yelp
We came around 2 for a late lunch and ordered a sandwich and a bowl. The food was just ok. The staff didn't seem thrilled to have customers. And I feel like we overpaid for what we got. 8 really wanted to like this place too!
google avatar

Lianna T.

Yelp
Such a funky and fun vibe and atmosphere from the second you enter the restaurant. Graffiti-painted walls and colorful decor greet you. Menu items are enticing and it is difficult to choose what to order - we settled on the Ahi Tuna bowl and Kara-Age, sweet and spicy friend chicken. While sauces were flavorful, the meat and fish did not taste quite as fresh as I would have hoped. However, it is impossible not to want to go back to try the other menu items including items like deep-fried rosted beets and house fries with curre kewpie, banana ketchup, and nori. Also, as others are saying beware of parking - we parked nearby and after reading these reviews am glad we did not get a boot on our car!

Yelp
Stopped by before our appointment with the cat cafe next door and got a snack. It was really good! We got the pork belly buns and edamame and absolutely enjoyed it! Great flavors and quality, we'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
Everything is SO good I'm so happy to announce that we go here again!!! We get the bento boxes and enjoy the flavors w the jalapeños and chicken and veggies!
google avatar

Kolby G.

Yelp
A lot of fun and delicious menu options. Bites: Brussels Salad - 4/5 Beets - 4/5 Bowls: Kara-age - 4/5 Hand-Held: Moto Dog - 5/5 The brussels and beets are both unique and have good flavors. The beets were cooked really well, and tasty but some pieces had more flavor than others. The karage was good too but I'm not a fan of all the Thai basil and cilantro they mix in with it. Other than that it's really well cooked and the sauce is super tasty. The moto dog is excellent. Nice flavors and has that crispy pop when you bite into it. Best thing on the menu.

Rachel K.

Yelp
The food was quite good and ready on time. The bento boxes were both good and a large size. However we were very disappointed that the tuna bowl, which appeared to be an entree and had a price that seemed like an entree, was the same size as the "small bites", which were appetizers. The size of the tuna bowl was so surprising I tried to contact the restaurant through their website form to find out if there had been a mistake.

Yelp
Underwhelmed and overcharged. For an Asian restaurant, you better bring your a-game with your wontons. Unfortunately, their chili wontons scored an F in that department! They were so mushy that the filling fell out when I would pick them up with my chopsticks. I've also had better chili crisp off of Amazon. Their bento box also left much to be desired. The chicken karage lacked seasoning and was totally unimpressive. The only good thing about this dish was the delicately pickled jalapeño garnish. Their steamed pork belly bun was dry all around--the pork belly, the sauce, the steamed bun itself... dry, dry, dry. I've never had a steamed bun crack in half on me but somehow they managed to do that. It honestly tasted like it had been left out all day. Their one and only standout was their Brussel sprout salad. It had a light vinegar dressing that made you want to go back for more. I'm deducting an additional star for a shifty "staff wellness" charge on my ticket. It feels totally deceptive when you don't advertise a charge like this, especially when they just flip their iPad over and ask you for a tip, but don't show you the itemized bill. I wouldn't have know had I not had the receipt emailed to me.
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
The $17 bento box is the perfect option to try a little bit of everything-ish that ESK offers. I was surprised how much I liked the Brussels sprouts salad! The karaage, pork belly bun, pickled veggies, and rice rounded out the offerings and hit the spot just so. They have a canned brown sugar boba latte that I almost threw myself over the counter to get, as I was so excited to find a boba drink in this neighborhood. Sadly, the boba is more gummy than tapioca but if you're into that, you might like. They have a cute lil' bodega (really, a shelf!) of Asian snacks, too, so grab something fun from there before leaving. Plenty of Indoor seating and they share a back patio with the other businesses in their little strip, so if sitting inside isn't your jam, check that out.
google avatar

Ethan Z.

Yelp
Upon entry, the restaurant design, plants and artwork come at you with its colorful array spread throughout. After a few visits I've grown very fond of the pork belly buns. The buns are always served soft, the pork belly is tender and sweet, and comes with a nice savory sauce and pickles. Due to their size, I normally order the buns as an addition to another entree. I like the chicken katsu bowl a lot. The serving size is fair, the rice is seasoned well, chicken served fresh and tender, and the side sauce is a great add on for extra zingy flavor. I think this restaurant is a great trendy spot, with good flavor, but if you are looking to really satisfy a big appetite your meal can become a little costly.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
I loved the outdoor seating of this place. I'm assuming during the evening they may have people come and perform either music or other shows on the stage outside. They have a small kids area to play. This place is right next door to the tattoo place. They had a good size menu. I ordered the pork belly bao bun sandwich and it was mouthwatering. Such huge pieces of pork belly. My husband got the spicy chicken sandwich and he really enjoyed it. We also got the rice and a side of fries. Everything we ate was good! The guy working the counter was very nice and offered his suggestions on food.

Autumn T.

Yelp
I don't remember how we found this place but I'm so grateful we did! The food was awesome- so delicious and flavorful. And the graffiti-style art serves as the perfect backdrop to the chill ambiance. The service was friendly and responsive. All in all, would definitely recommend this place. If we're ever back in Austin, we'll definitely be back.

Laurie S.

Yelp
Delivery was great. 5 stars. Food- decent. I did appreciate the lemon wedge for edamame-refreshing, nicely steamed and salted just right. Bento box fairly good! But? Your BOH has lost the ability to cook the pork (belly) that is a feature in your phos. I get that this is a fatty meat, but the feature of those treats were both too fatty AND chewy. Sauce was perfect (bottle it and sell it!), as were the buns. Shoot kids, sauce can only take you so far when you don't prepare the protein correctly. C'mon-, kitchen- you can do better and you know that.

Yelp
Was going to order what used to be my favorite meal here, the Chicken Korage Bento Box. We decided to go somewhere else after looking at the prices. We haven't went in a few years, but to raise the price $5 more then it used to be is quite a jump. Not paying $17 for what you get. I already thought you only get a little of each item as it is, so not worth the price. I can see the price going up like a dollar or 2, but not much more than that. I know it was already high when you all raised the price to $13.l a few years ago. Also major parking problem. If you park behind their building, there is someone waiting and watching to boot you within a minute or two. It seems like this is a set-up to make them both some money. Anyway if you park on the side your lucky but hard to find one and sometimes hard to get out. We have waited what seemed like an eternity to get our food even when it wasn't busy. To some things up, We Will not be coming back again anytime soon or in the near future.

Yelp
I live across the street from this location and have been coming here since 2020. The food was incredible to me- pricey, but worth it. I would go faithfully at least once a week and would even spend $40+ just for me when I went alone. I have brought so many friends here and raved to them. In the past three years not only has the price gone up, but the food quality as well as portions have decreased dramatically and I can no longer go there. It actually makes me sad driving past it every day because it used to be my favorite in all of austin. I guess I'm hoping there's a chance the owner will see this & know that regular patrons of his restaurant have noticed the steady decline. I don't see this place surviving much longer. Loro is across the street with similar food & price as well as a spectacular outdoor eating area. ESK has a prime location in the plaza and a nice outdoor area that can be better enjoyed while going to Irie Bean. I suspect inflation and real estate are to blame for these sacrifices, but I wish they would just raise the price to keep the quality- I would pay $50 for a bento box from 2 years ago. Although, sadly, if ESK did that they could no longer attract the tourist population from the neighboring tattoo & piercing place (because surely there are no locals who can calls themselves regulars). Also- the tips are pooled with the cooks & I have noticed without fail they will disregard my requests if I don't tip/tip a lot. Can't even hate on them I get it, but as a service industry professional I can see this animosity starts from the top. RIP ESK. I'd honestly rather an actual bodega there. At least it would provide something useful to our neighborhood.

Yelp
Their lunch boxes are the tastiest bento I've found in Austin by far. If you want katsu or sashimi bowls this is your place!!

Yelp
My friends and I were looking forward to eating at this restaurant but ended up being very disappointed. Unfortunately, the fried chicken sandwich was dry and overcooked. The sandwich looked completely charred. Our group ordered 3 chili wontons and found the texture very mushy. We opened up the wontons and saw that they were all raw inside. We notified an employee about the wontons, and he offered to redo all 3 dishes. Unfortunately, the 2nd round was even more undercooked. I'm not sure if we went on an off day but I would recommend staying away from the wontons

Yelp
I tried the ESK awhile back when the cedar park location was still opened, and really enjoyed their food thoroughly. So my partner decided he wanted a good rice bowl which is why we had a to go from their south Lamar location as the menu had a more items than the 6th street location. Placing the order and pick up was extremely seamless, and was great. The food however had changed a little since our time at cedar park. I saw another reviewer mention that the rice was no longer sticky and that's absolutely true. It seems like they made the pivot to use basmati rice, which isn't the worse because it was still fragrant and was not dry (it is easy to make dry basmati rice). However it was really hard eating with chopsticks, and that is coming from a person who regularly uses chopsticks. The food has also become pretty expensive, and the portion was only decent for the price. The chicken (we got the katsu and the kaarage) was nicely fried and crispy and the sauces were a good flavor match with the chicken but there was a sauce on the rice that made it pretty salty. I had to drink a lot of water after the meal. There was also an over abundance of aromatics which kind of ruined the flavor profile of the rice. In general it's still a solid rice bowl, which is why I gave it a 4/5, but I don't know if it's worth the price for me anymore.

Yelp
Wow, what an amazing hole in the wall place! I'm giving it: 4.5 stars. The flavors here are out of bounds, and your taste buds will thank you! Walking in here it looks like a quiet spot, but you will be amazed with the meals you have. It doesn't have a huge menu, but it will hit your taste buds. The Asian/Mexican fusion is definitely worth experiencing, but I would like to see more meat! I always envisioned Texas to be the meat paradise of the world. The Chicken Katsu is amazing, but where is the meat! I had to knock it down 1/2 star for that. This place is flavorful & amazing, but I need more. I guess being from New Jersey we get fed pretty well. So coming here and experiencing this delicacy I was happy, but left hungry for more. What amazed me was that they have a patio (backyard) with a bar, tables, and a mini stage for some live appearances. Definitely a good find!

Yelp
I've eaten here a couple of times now - before COVID and just this past weekend via delivery. I love the concept but each time has somewhat fallen flat for me. This most recent time, I ordered the spicy wontons and the fried chicken sandwich. The prices don't look bad but the portion they give you is really small. For example, for almost the same price, the 101 by teahaus fried chicken sandwich is 3 times more food (and tastier). And the fried chicken sandwich here feels unloved -- the flavors have a lot of potential but the whole thing is kind of thrown together like a plain McDonald's hamburger (see the pic). There was a smear of Kewpie mayo (yay) and then a smattering of asian pickles (see the pic for how they were unevenly tossed in)..and nothing else. The chicken itself was dry. The wontons were somewhat better, but did not hit it out of the park. The flavors were good and the chili crisp is great, but the wontons themselves were small, the skin was too mushy and it generally felt like they had just been reheated. I really want to love this place, but its overpriced for what you get. Whoever curated the menu clearly has a great palate for flavors but the execution is unfortunately very mediocre.

Yelp
Beware! These business run a scam on parking. Their lot has one small sign that says you can't park in their lot to eat there. We walked in and as we were going in a guy runs out and boots our car. We were parked right in front of the restaurant. 100$ to take it off. The food simply isn't worth the scam of the parking lot. We were also taking our daughter to the Cat Cafe there but after all that we left for places that actually welcome patrons. BEWARE!!!!!

Yelp
We've been coming here since the opening. A great place to take out out of town/ visitors, before they depart. It's always fun to leave them with a true authentic feel of Austin. Mouth watering!
