Since 1929, Eastside Italian Deli has been slinging hearty, messy sandwiches with an old-school charm that keeps locals coming back for more, making it a must-try in LA.
"We love Eastside Market because even after 85 years, this Italian deli on the outskirts of downtown still somehow remains a local secret. The sandwiches coming out of here are the messy, old-school red sauce variety that is hard to find elsewhere in LA. The #7 (roast beef, pastrami, and cheese) is probably our favorite, but if you’re feeling ambitious, the D.A. Special (sausage, meatball, roast beef, and pastrami) is your one-way ticket to an all-day nap." - brant cox, garrett snyder
"The Eastside Market feels like a secret, kind of like the time capsule from 1959 supposedly hidden in Dodger Stadium. Located on a side street off the 110, this deli is where to get huge, saucy, meatball-stuffed sandwiches before the game. It’ll likely be filled with neighborhood locals and off-duty first responders grabbing a bite, so pre-order your sub for a quick pick-up or sit down to consume all the carbs you'll need to scream your heart out in the nosebleeds. Cold and hot subs are on the menu, but the version with warm Italian sausage, grilled peppers, melted cheese, and a big ladle of sauce is hard to pass up. " - sylvio martins, nikko duren
"If you’ve been binge-watching The Sopranos in quarantine and are craving a good, old -fashioned red sauce meal (and want to save a little money), look no further than Eastside Market Italian Deli, an 85 year-old sandwich shop that still somehow remains a local secret. The sandwiches coming out of here hover around the $9-12 mark and are the messy, old-school, red sauce variety that are hard to find elsewhere in LA. The #7 (roast beef, pastrami, and cheese) is probably our favorite, but if you’re feeling ambitious, the D.A. Special (sausage, meatball, roast beef, and pastrami) is your one way ticket to an at-home power nap." - kat hong
"You go to Eastside Market for their massive sandwiches, and the chicken parm is no exception. They’re not doing anything groundbreaking with this sandwich, which is actually a special (even though it’s on the menu every day). But what this version lacks in innovation, it makes up for in girth. The chicken is pounded thin, then lightly breaded before getting seasoned with Italian herbs. It’s slathered in salty marinara sauce, topped with melted provolone and parmesan, and served on a pillowy, house-baked sub roll. Get ready to be horizontal when you finish." - kat hong, brett keating
