Chicken Parm Is My Self-Care | Bon Appétit

"A diner at 64th and Lex where the author often stopped after gastroenterology appointments; its hum and mostly geriatric crowd felt calming amid health struggles. The chicken parm—a $17.95 plate of melty cheese over slightly dry white meat—served as a small, emotional celebration when the author was cleared to resume a normal diet, making a solo early-evening meal there a meaningful ritual tied to recovery." - ByCarey Polis

Yelp
Service excellent! Food always good ! But I cannot believe that they charge $4.50 for each fresh brewed iced tea . No refill And they don't tell you it's no refill That definitely upset me It was like four sips of iced tea with all the ice in the glass ...

Yelp
This is a classic cozy diner right in midtown with great service & dependable food. First of all, this place has been here for 40yrs (easily). This place has been here since my high school days down the block in '95. So I love this place because it takes me back. We sat at the counter waitress was attentive took our order quickly. Food was great. Note: I got the corn beef hash and eggs. I know it looks unappetizing, but it was good. Made how I like it- eggs well done. It was great to eat at place that has with standard time.

Yelp
Friendly service with good food. If you're in the neighborhood and need a decent diner try this one. It's comfortable and nice.

Yelp
Met friends for lunch at this eatery near the Central Park Zoo. They have a pretty extensive menu, egg dishes, breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and Italian entrees. The staff were friendly and nice. We weren't rushed and stayed over 3 hours to catch up.

Yelp
After a morning walk through Central Park and around the Upper East Side, we were looking for a place to stop in and get a snack. The name intrigued us. We loved the small business feel and hospitality. The staff was kind and the fruit was fresh!

Yelp
Googled a diner near us and found this place. It was nuts inside. But they sat us within 5 minutes. We love small mom and pop places. Which was surprising because of the location. The servers and the owner were all so welcoming and nice! It was super super busy but we can describe it as organized chaos We got our drinks right away and ordered our food within 10 minutes. It was midday so most of us decided for Lunch. My boyfriend had the hungry man breakfast, my mom ordered a grilled chicken sandwich my daughter had a cheeseburger and I had a Philly cheesesteak. The portions were pretty big, we allll had leftovers. The Philly cheesesteak was so warm and delicious literally melts in your mouth! The chicken was so soft and perfectly cooked, the bread was a lot, but still was really good. The eggs came out just as he asked and the waffle was delicious too! My daughter ate the burger and fries and that too was cooked just as she asked well done. This spot was awesome, again wayyy better than expected and definitely gave that hole in the wall feeling!

Yelp
I mean - it told me to "Eat Here Now" so I did. It is a cute little typical NYC diner and the food was really good. Service was great. The place is really, really small and you may have to wait a bit. In the winter it is a little uncomfortable because of that but otherwise a great experience. You could feel the community there.

Yelp
Solid diner with great service and good prices. You just have everything you need and I would just go for the breakfast bun sandwich

Yelp
Friday 1:00pm Party of 2 Strolling down Lexington Avenue and decided it was time to stop for some lunch and a cup of coffee on a cold January day. There are booths and tables. We were seated at a table for 2 and given menus right away. We ordered water to start with While we perused the menu. The restaurant is small with seating close together, so we got to over hear the conversation Of the two people next to us. We were glad when they left. We ordered the Balboa sandwich: roast beef with Swiss cheese and fries. It came with two slices of of fresh tomato and Two pickle slices. The bread used for the sandwich was similar to a flat hamburger bun. The meat was good, not fatty And not salty. There weren't too many fries but that was fine. We were planning on dessert. After the sandwich we ordered coffee, which was very good and a slice of warm apple pie. The waitress suggested A slice of cake and the cake in the refrigerated case looked tasty, but glad we stuck with the apple pie. The dishes Were cleared off our table quickly and we did not feel rushed out at all. Very nice staff.

Yelp
Cramped diner in NYC especially during winter when everyone is coming in with additional attire for the cold and there is no outside seating to expand, but I would venture to say that this is part of the allure. The summary is this... Diner food, pretty standard, rushed service but almost to be expected, it is NY and the place is busy. So dine in, pay, and leave...

Yelp
Overpriced diner that needs a serious makeover. The food is edible but nothing special. I'm sure there are better restaurants in the area to visit.

Yelp
Was in NYC doing tourist stuff. This little dive restaurant was near our hotel. Amazing breakfast and service. It was so good we came back multiple days. Service was fast and friendly, food was excellent.

Yelp
The kindest and most friendly staff, it reminds me of the TV series Cheers (I'm that old!). the food is the fresh and the kitchen is always available to make changes.

Yelp
It was a restaurant that my husband and I just happened to stumble upon. And we were glad we did the service and the food was great

Victoria A.

Yelp
A very good diner in Manhattan, this restaurant has good burgers, good ice coffee, excellent desserts and the staff is very friendly to its customers. When I lived in New York City, this was one of my favorite diners. They take cash and credit cards. The place is very small though so you might have to eat at the counter.

Yelp
This place is great fun and the owner is extremely friendly and helpful and funny A great dinner and basic great dining Go here eat well and have fun

Yelp
Loved the hospitality!!! Food was great. I had an omelette and grilled cheese and loved it, will def be back. Its always busy but not in a you have to wait an hour way but a comfortable wait where they offer you to sit at the bar and enjoy a coffee or OJ, everyone knows each other and I love how the staff makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. They even introduce you to the regulars you sit next 2 in such a loving way.

Yelp
Cute little diner-like place. My cousin and I were looking to grab breakfast and stumbled upon Eat Here Now and we did just that! I had a BLT and my cousin had an omelette. The service was great, our waitress was attentive. We ordered and our food came out pretty quickly. Inflation has really hit because our breakfast consisting of a BLT w avocado, omelette and 1 iced coffee was $45. I thought that was pretty pricey. My cousin's omelette was $18. Other than that it's a convenient location off the train. If you want a quick sit down breakfast in the neighborhood "eat here now!"

Yelp
I ordered the steak sandwich and it was incredibly dry. The portion size was generous but it was just tough to eat. Then I went to the bathroom before I left and there was a cockroach crawling across the floor. Never again.

Yelp
Amazing service cozy atmosphere really kinda normal diner food delicious. It was bustling inside, everyone was very chipper and in a good mood, we didn't try the muffins but they looked really good.

Yelp
I am a breakfast person, I ended stopping at this diner for lunchtime and ordered Eggs Benedict (Salmon) with a cup of coffee. I've ate a lot of eggs Benedict brunches here in NYC and this was by far the best. From a crunchy English muffin to the creamy flavorful hollandaise sauce. The serves was great and fast, everyone was attentive and super friendly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking diner food or something quick but too heavy. The food was light, not greasy. Next time around, I want to try the Greek Salad with Grilled Chicken.

Yelp
We had a late breakfast here on a Friday. Service was incredible. We sat outside on the patio and had the burgers and chicken wrap. Both were excellent. Very cute cafe/diner feel. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
I love the place. Especially the small booths for one or two. The service is amazing. And the tuna salad on rye toast with lettuce and tomato and extra mayo is my fave. I think they should refresh it a bit. The entrance is messy. Faith P

Yelp
Went in here expecting to order decent, local diner food. Although the service here was EXTREMELY quick, then food was subpar. Ordered the Lox bagel for brunch however it was disappointing. There was too much salmon in the ratio, which also tasted a bit fishy. I was hoping this was served with capers, however just onion and tomato and green salad on the side. It was overall an unpleasant dish. Western omelet was decent as well. Nothing special. Better to order from a local deli or bagel shop. Would not recommend it.

Yelp
Such a friendly staff for the most part when you walk right through the doors. It is my go-to diner in the area, and I've already been here 5-6 times. My go-to is the omelette with spinach and bacon. They cook their omelettes so well and the toast and home fries are distinguishable from other diners in the area that I've been to. Decently priced menu, and the service is pretty quick. Overall, I highly recommend this diner - you will not regret it!

Yelp
Excellent breakfast options. Service was quick and helpful. Wasn't too expensive either which is always great to see.

Yelp
Eat Here Now has been here forever. I'm not sure why it appears to be a new business unless it's under a new owner. They sure are providing top quality service. Every employee was really nice and working hard, and in cooperation with each other. When I said I wanted to sit inside I showed proof of vaccination and was told I could sit wherever I wanted. I took a nice booth in back facing the door. I had a nice window view too. There's partitions between booths for added safety. I knew what I wanted so my order went in quickly. I forgot to say sweet potato fries and they brought out regular. I said it was my error and I would be glad to pay for both. I still wanted the sweet potato fries to eat. They wouldn't hear of it and didn't charge me for my error. I ordered my usual grilled cheese sandwich with American Cheese on Rye Bread and it was spectacular. Not dripping in grease. Toasty and tasty. I left satisfied with the food and the charge of $14.05 is reasonable compared to diners in my neighborhood. I left a good tip to cover the excellent service from all employees! I'm recommending you visit here for their extensive menu and old school diner atmosphere. Plus there's lots of seating both inside and outside. They're Worthy of Ten Stars if I could give them.

Yelp
I can tell how much I'm going to love a place by how I feel when I immediately walk in. Either I'm really intuitive or rigid in my first impressions, but I'm always right on it. When I walked into THIS PLACE? Immediate laughs and good energy. I was greeted by the owner Jack who said he has been here since the 1980s after he saw the year I was born on my vaccination card. He told me about his twins who happened to also be my age and really had me entertained from the second I sat down. Don't even get me started on Debra! What a beautiful person inside and out. Hilarious. She made me feel like I was a regular here and it was my first time here. I'm debating being a regular here, seriously. After eating, I felt so cozy that I didn't even wanna get up and go. I ordered the BLT, went to use the bathroom, and when I came back out it was on the table. QUICK. They let me try their fries too and wow. So crispy and perfectly salty. I'm not kidding the service here is super efficient. One of the fastest I've ever seen! I sat here for a while with my tea, my book, and giggling with Debra & Jack. This is what I love about down to earth, local businesses. Yeah, I could have went to Jojo (some upscale place) around the corner. But would I have laughed this much and ate this good? The BLT slapped. Served with pickles and a side salad. Perfect crispy bacon and pickles that were just the perfect amount of sweet and sour. See you next weekend

Yelp
What a gem of a place! Sorry that we found this on our last full day in New York. This place is like a warm sweater that you have had for years :) the staff is very warm and welcoming and the food.. if you can't fix something to eat here not sure what to tell you. We had breakfast for lunch. Our over medium eggs were cooked to perfection and the rye toast and potatoes and crispy bacon were perfect!! I would definitely recommend eating here and will return on our next visit!
google avatar

Nicholas G.

Yelp
One of the more unique names you will hear. This is your classic diner with all the fixings. The breakfast is served hot and fast. I went with the omelette and homefries. Both were as basic as you can get and if I closed my eyes I could be in any diner in the tri-state area. They have tons of options on the menu so you can't go wrong. Check it out!

Yelp
Had a really good tuna sandwich while my wife loved her eggs. Overall very good food and good service. Outdoor seating is a nice option too

Pedro M.

Yelp
The food is basic but good, and the atmosphere is simple but classic. The servers are efficient and friendly. Most important of all, this restaurant values its customers.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! Amazing diner on best part of UES. Amazing service, feels like family.

Mike L.

Yelp
Food is bad. Omelettes are dry and fillings are mixed into the eggs like a dry scramble. Toast is dry and tasteless. Jams are prepackaged from Smuckers with only grape and orange marmalade. Service is efficient and quick.
google avatar

Gabriel G.

Yelp
The service here was amazing but the food was really average and some of my friends didn't like the food. Also, the restaurant needs some renovation

Emma S.

Yelp
Was looking for a quick diner brunch and unfortunately stumbled into this restaurant. Ordered a tuna melt and an eggs Benedict. Each had their own major flaws. The tuna melt had a slab of hard cheese on the top. The Benedict sauce was thick and unappetizing. I've never had bad potato's before but the "hash browns" were a weird gloppy mess. ALSO when the waitress delivered our food, she coughed right on the plate. Incredible waste of money. Can't believe it's possible to mess up breakfast staples this badly, at a NYC diner of all places.

Yelp
Been here 3 times now and the food is always incredible. Definitely my favorite diner. Inside seating is major diner vibes and there is outdoor seating as well with heaters. Can get quite full but I've never seen a long wait. Staff is friendly and makes it a positive experience. Strongly recommend Eat Here Now!

Eryn M.

Yelp
As soon as we walked in we were seated, the host and servers were so fast and kind. The diner was super cute itself and you can tell everyone working there enjoys it. The food came out very quickly, was pretty average but the service made it a great experience!

Yelp
While waiting for my sister to have surgery nearby I stopped in for lunch. The service was great. Very attentive, friendly, and quick. The food was delicious. Definitely will be coming back
google avatar

Claire K.

Yelp
Best breakfast place in the city! So friendly and the service is excellent. The Russian lady that I see most days on my visit is so personable. It's nice to leave with that warm feeling that someone remembers what you ordered last week in a big city that can sometimes feel lonely and robotic with its service. Try it, you won't be disappointed .
google avatar

Yelp
Fast and great service. Good food. Owner is hilarious. A great vibe and will definitely come back. True diner vibes.

Yelp
Dependable American Diner with shockingly solid French toast and the fastest service you can ever receive. $15 a meal. 4/5 stars as a breakfast spot.

Lyala H.

Yelp
After walking by this place many times I finally stopped to eat. I always thought the name of the place was very interesting lol. I was with my husband. He got fettuccine and meatballs and I got a veggie burger with French fries. The food came out fast and was very good. The service was fast and friendly. We did eat outside and the seating made on the street bc of covid felt safe and was very clean. Jack took our order but I'm not sure if he was our actual waiter. He was a happy funny guy. I think he was just making sure we were happy. The food is priced well. Our check was $40. It's convenient walking to Bloomingdale's and the trains. I willdefinitely visit again as it's close to my work. They closed at 5pm but I think those were covid hours so make sure to call before you go.

Yelp
Came here after being ignored by waitress at MEDETERRANEO Seated immediately Menu given immediately Excellent service Excellent staff. Polite. Respectful. Received delicious food immediately!! Mefeterraneo staff need to take pointers from you! You are THE BEST!!
google avatar

Yelp
I meet up with a friend here regularly. The staff are so lovely and very accommodating. It's one of the reasons we go there and the location. It's regular diner style food so nothing different than you would find with other diners except the menu is not as extensive. The one thing I don't like there is the coffee. I've tried a couple of times but I just don't order it any more. So the stars I would say 3 stars based on the food. The extra star is for the staff alone.

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
This place put a smile on my face at a time where I really needed it. The waitress who served us was one of those people who legit knows how to brighten your day. The food was outstanding. And the atmosphere was everything you could ever want in a quint New York cafe.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch after visiting a nearby museum. The chicken parmigiana sandwich is incredible. Highly recommended.

Gail R.

Yelp
My most recent visit was a disappointing one. While the service was quite good, the food was not up to par. If you are going to charge $4.00 extra for bananas in your pancakes, than the bananas should be ripe and tasty.
