On the Grid : Eat Tokyo

"This place is an absolute surprise and you will love it. The interior is very traditional, all the staff multitasking swiftly, the menu has its self-made charms, and the atmosphere is extremely human and friendly. The food is fabulous and affordable—a combo which comes ever closer to impossible in central London. A waiter is always cruising around you making sure you get everything on time and you are served correctly. The sushi is incredible, fresh and lovely, much better than the usual fridge sushis in most places. Katzus are magical too, but they will likely put you to sleep—even the smallest portion challenges our men there." - IYA Studio

Eat Tokyo Review - Notting Hill - London - The Infatuation

"You cannot get more no-nonsense than this Japanese mini-chain's spot right outside Notting Hill Gate station. It’s a fun, busy restaurant where you can get some tasty sushi at a very good price, all in an hour (or under). The menu, which is lengthy to say the least, has everything from sashimi and udon, to katsu curry and bento boxes. You can see the chefs lined up in the kitchen, slicing fish, making rolls to order, and we’d suggest heading here when you’re in the mood to split some dragon rolls, hot udon, and prawn tempura. If you avoid the nigiri and sashimi, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the bill." - Rianne Shlebak

If you like Japanese food, you can't miss this restaurant in London. But it has many branches. If you don't have to, I suggest you not choose the one in Chinatown because there are often long queues there and they have to book a desk early in the morning. If not, you have to wait at the door for a long time. This branch has less traffic and you can basically get a seat when you arrive. The food, whether it's sashimi tempura or fried squid tentacles, is very delicious. The price is also very affordable. It's highly recommended to friends who like Japanese cuisin.

Heard about Eat Tokyo from a couple of my work colleagues and since I live nearby I decided to check it out. I wasn't disappointed! We did have to wait about 30-45 minutes outside as the place is quite small. I can't put a negative point on that aspect, can't help it if you're so popular and have a small venue. However it was completely worth the wait as when I was walking by others the food looked amazing. Getting to our table we did have a hard time deciding what to eat as there was a lot to choose from but when we did get the food it was amazing! Note: When choosing to get a large amount of the food the young waiter did look out for us, gave us recommendations as the curry ran out. He was very helpful and gave us great alternatives. Great service! I wanted more but I had to resist! Highly recommend heading here if you can HOWEVER be aware of a queue outside (around 6pm) and a crowded, tucked environment.

Discovered a hidden gen in London. Although there is a bit of wait time even at around 9pm, it is ultimately worth it. Ordered a Katsu Sara set for £12 which comes with two pork cutlets, rice and miso soup. The portion is massive and I have to put the second cutlet into a takeaway box. It tasted amazing and it is cooked and seasoned properly. My friends also ordered different platters and they fall within the price range of £10-£20. And looked really good. Would definitely recommend this place.

Discovered a gem in London - Eats Tokyo offers an authentic Japanese dining experience with exceptional service. The attention to detail here is remarkable. One standout moment was when a waitress quietly replaced dropped chopsticks without any fuss - the kind of subtle, attentive service that defines true hospitality. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere transported us straight to Japan. While most of the wait staff aren't Japanese, they maintain high service standards, and having a Japanese chef adds to the authenticity. It was particularly special to be able to converse with the chef in Japanese, adding a personal touch to our evening. The combination of outstanding service, great food, and genuine attention to detail makes Eats Tokyo a must-visit. Perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The restaurant truly understands the essence of Japanese hospitality - it's in the small, thoughtful gestures that make a dining experience memorable.

I've dined here a few times for lunch. The quality of the food and the value you get is second to none. I usually go for the Katsu chicken bento box. The chicken is so crispy and it comes with Katsu dipping sauce. There's also rice and some tofu (see photos). If that wasn't enough miso soup is included with the meal. All this for £10 as of the time of this review. The atmosphere is great and the staff are so polite. They say goodbye to every customer in Japanese.

Alright, Eat Tokyo is an absolute must try The food is amazing, the staff and the chief, Lin, are of amazing people. In my recent trip to London, I went there a couple of times and a friend of mine who lived close to the restaurant suggested it. We had so many different foods and each was better than the other. And, the prices are really reasonable, perhaps, cheap for the quality of food and services you get. One thing to keep in mind is that this restaurant does not have the best space, always try to reserve a table in advance and aim for the tables right when you enter the restaurant.

I am just going to drop all the pictures I took when I visited. And, a picture of me and the chief too! He is so funny! I specifically loved: Buta Yakiniku Bento

Google
Authentic Japanese restaurant with a very good price/quality ratio. Fresh fish (sushi), big portions and quick order to table time. Once entered, you are greeted by all the staff members. They present you with a (too) big menu, in a rather old but cosy setting. Had already some random sushi roles (9.5/10) and a chefs menu (9.5/10) with Miso soup. I will definitely go back, reservation is a nice to have but not needed.

I LOVE Eat Tokyo! The value and quality of the food here are amazing! I highly recommend getting the bento box! It’s perfect if you want a bit of everything. The queue for seating can take some time, but the food is served pretty quickly once you’re seated. Definitely worth the wait!

Yelp
I did wait for a bit outside on an understandable busy night. I would have sure waited twice the amount of time if I would have known the food would taste so good and fresh! It feels very home and cultural. The prices are great & I left with a full stomach. I ordered the salmon over rice. Chicken Gyoza, Edamame & Fried Pumpkin. My partner ordered the Eel over rice & shrimp dumplings. Best Salmon Ever.

Yelp
Not my first time in Eat Tokyo but definitely my favorite place for Japanese food outside of sushi ! I ordered the chicken Katsu bento and then to share some gyozas and pumpkin croquettes. Again amazing food and good quantity for a great price. I recommend this place to enjoy nice real Japanese food which is more than just sushi

Yelp
The waitTess mistakenly served an extra bowel of soup. The charge lady threaten to deduct the waitress's salary. The waitress came to us multiple times asking us to pay for her mistake. we took pity for her situation and okayed her request. she came back again and again to confirm about it. it ruined our atmosphere for lunch. it was my husband's Birthday.

Yelp
This is the third location I have been to and it was a consistent experience with the others. Good value for a Japanese meal. They have a huge menu so you can choose from sushi, rolls, donburi, fish, curry, tempura and multiple bento boxes. I had the mixed tempura which included two prawns, one fish and a variety of vegetables. The box also came with two maki rolls, agedashi tofu, salad and rice with a side miso soup. All this for £11! It's a small space even with upstairs seating. Service is decent and relatively quick. A good meal in a casual environment.

Yelp
I really like this place, they have a huge variety of sushi and cooked Japanese bentos and dishes to choose from. It is always crazy busy, long lineups. The prices are not super expensive. I went to both locations and both were crazy busy.

Yelp
I love sushi! And to those who have been following my reviews you would know I have been having quite some sushi withdrawal symptoms since arriving the city. Simply put, there just ain't any good sushi around....! Until... Today! Found this Eat Tokyo joint. 3 letter word - YUm! Otoro - superb Bento Box - generous and tasty Sushi - oishi ! Just come and you will know what I'm on about! I shall let the photos speak for itself! The only complaint/downside - service was practically non-existence...! But still 5 stars cause food was just too awesome!

Yelp
Eat Tokyo is my new favourite go to Japanese resturant for no nonsense, quick and authentic good quality Jap food. There is even the option on the menu to go large for all you big eaters who complain about portion size. There is plenty of variety here, so much to choose from and its amazing how they keep up. Not just sushi, there is other quality Japanese food, and the drink menu to match. The restaurant is cosy, and make use of the space they have. It gets really busy, and been advised its always good to book. The service is decent, but given how busy it gets, understandable. There is a chain of them, and with so many Japanese resturant popping all over London in the last decade, it can be difficult to choose one which is consistent, and reasonably priced. Therefore with this, Tokyo Eat is new favourite go to.

Yelp
My friend booked a reunion dinner for a couple of our high school buds, and thankfully chose a Japanese restaurant so I could get my sushi fix ... Lizzie can't go 10 days without sushi! I ordered a couple of rolls, spinach in sesame sauce and tomago. The fish is fresh and tasty, and the portions generous. My friends ordered a range of bento boxes which were huge! We all picked around on each other's dishes to get a full sample of Japanese flavours alongside our bottle of plum wine (glug glug). Special shout out to the "Tokyo Special", combining eel, salmon, avocado, green and red roe that creates a complete party in your mouth. It's award winning too! The restaurant itself isn't anything special, and when you head into the basement you're cut off from the rest of the world. You're totally reliant on the servers, who are unfriendly but helpful. It all adds to the character of the place - and they can totally afford a frosty welcome as the food is worth coming back for!

Yelp
What a feast! £9 for a double portion of Chicken (or Pork) Katsu with Japanese curry and rice. It was humongous. The sushi was delicious and without going into names of each. They were delicious. Not sure of the obligatory 12.5% service charge when you have a girl who doesn't know if the dish she bought out was mine or someone you else's. The food superb. The service not so. But food always wins.

Yelp
This is the 2nd time I've eaten here. I had much fonder memories of it before. We came in around 10:10 (yes it's a late dinner) but the restaurant closes at 11:30 so it should be okay. Well we are greeted and they tell us the kitchen is about to close so we have to order in the next 15min. I am not sure why the kitchen needs to close an hour before the restaurant does as there is no point in staying open if you can't order food. The host came over to our table and was flipping through the menu for us and telling us what to get, all of which happened to be sashimi. I can only assume was to save the kitchen time as well as fish that would go bad. This was quite out of the ordinary for us and made us feel uncomfortable. The food was so so. I had some Katsu Jyu, and a spider roll which was the highlight of my meal. The katsu tasted dry to me and I was unable to finish it. I also thought it was chicken but honest to God I had no idea what kind of meat it was. Chicken does not taste like that. Even my friend Irene's friend who is a total bitch wouldn't eat this katsu if given the opportunity to do so. The spider roll on the other hand was still warm, freshly made and every piece was delicious. If I go again I will most likely only get sushi rolls. I don't see the benefit of going here over places like wasabi and itsu if I'm only going to be getting sushi from now on.

Yelp
The food was really nice! I enjoyed the tuna teriyaki so much! It was tender and bursting with flavour! Most of the staff were polite and we felt their hospitality. There was just one thing. When we entered the restaurant, a manager made it clear that we would need to leave within an hour and a half even though we had booked which made us feel a little rushed. We were looking forward to tasting some types of sake which was a shame. The restaurant is located in Holborn, around 8mins walk from Holborn station. The interior reminded me of Japan, and you can sit in front of sushi counter, just like in Japan!

Yelp
High quality sushi! toro, tuna, salmon, and white fish are so fresh and tasty the bento box is delicious and the price is fear

Yelp
Eat Tokyo was my first experience with Japanese food in London and it was pretty tasty! I ordered a grapefruit Japanese shochu which was alright. I wouldn't recommend it because it's not very sweet. For dinner, I got a bento box with Tonkotsu, rice, salad, edamame and agedashi tofu. They forgot my two pieces of salmon sushi which was really disappointing but okay because it was a ton of food! My only complaint is that one of my pieces of pork looked undercooked but other than that, it was a very good and filling meal that was reasonably priced!

Yelp
A Japanese colleague recommended Eat Tokyo to me quite a while ago, didn't have the chance until recently. We got there around 8pm on Friday. The restaurant was packed, there were a couple waiting before us, but after 5 mins there were already over 10 people stood behind us! The restaurant didn't have any sign asking customers to queue outside, there were people just stormed into the restaurant and waited inside even though there was a queue outside. Luckily after a while the manager told them all to queue. I know they are very busy, but it will be better if they can keep an eye on the queuing situation (Because there was quite a few people just ignoring the queue). One more thing, getting there early and doesn't mean will be seated earlier, it's totally depends on the amount of people. There were 3 of us, it took a while to get us a table. The restaurant itself isn't very spacious, which has a ground floor, a room in the basement and one upper floor. It can be quite crammed when full. The selection of the food was good, the price was good too. I ordered a Chirashi-Don (sashimi on sushi rice bowl), it came with miso soup. It was very good, it was a bowl of fresh assorted sashimi, very generous portion in my opinion. All these was under £10! A friend ordered the Chicken Jyu (Chicken Teriyake over rice with miso soup), I tried some and it was lovely. I am still thinking about the food, and thinking when am I gonna go again. With such quality of food and reasonable price. No wonder it's so busy.

Yelp
The Holborn branch of eat Tokyo is popular with both students and office workers due to the location and reputation for good value and generous portions. As it was quite late we were limited in the choice of restaurants so we popped into eat Tokyo for a quick dinner. On a Monday evening approaching 10pm the place was still surprisingly busy, there were few tables free. The menu is thick and very comprehensive, you could easily spend 30 minutes trying to choose dishes! Being a Monday, the dishes containing seafood were not as fresh as on other days. The crispy squid was tough and overcooked on this occasion. The Tokyo roll consisting of eel, yellowtail tuna, salmon and avocado was the best dish but would have been better with fresher fish at £14.50 it is one of the pricier dishes. The mixed tempura containing 2 prawns, sweet potato, aubergine and mushroom was quite disappointing. The mushroom tempura tasted odd, using rehydrated shiitake mushroom just does not work. Eat Tokyo is a good choice for a quick, cheap and cheerful meal if you stick to the massive bento boxes or rice dishes. The soft shell crab roll and crispy squid are recommended dishes provided you are not dining on a Monday.

Lucas C.

Yelp
The food was okay, but the service was so awful that it completely ruined the experience. Multiple times I had difficulty trying to order and when inevitably my order was taken wrongly, they refused to swap it out for the correct dish, insisting that I had ordered the one they served. When I was telling them that I had the incorrect dish, the manager said to wait for a second and then hung up on me. Awful service, completely ruined my meal.

Yelp
The best Japanese restaurant in London. The food is just right and price is good. But if you want a quiet place, it's not for you. I personally love this place!

Yelp
Went there twice (two different locations). Both were great. Yummy Japanese, fresh sushi, and not pricy. Will definitely come back here next time in London.

Yelp
I suppose Yelp reviews do work! My place of choice was closed on Sunday, so decided to visit this one instead based on the general feeling of the place in Yelp. We ordered a sushi boat for everyone and it was amaaaaazing! Super fresh fish, I even ate something other than tuna and salmon, which are usually the only ones I like. There was a bit of otoro in a corner, delicious! I also had some tempura udon. Perhaps not the best one I've ever had, but a world apart from the worst. Pleasant staff and a small, cozy place, not very loud (I think we were the loud ones). Will come back again for sure!
google avatar

Nicola W.

Yelp
We saw a long queue in the Piccadilly branch several days ago,so did not get it. so why not try this branch ? I think the venue itself is quite old and needs some updating. The food is just normal but the proportion is good. I am not that impressed with the tastes for some of the rice dishes at all. The ingredients need to be fresher. We tried the award winning sushi rolls as well, like the ingredients combination, but again, it does not taste fresh enough! I will go To Eat Tokyo again only if I am hungry and need somewhere has reasonable Price food but taste is not priority for the meal.

Yelp
Wonderful place. Going there all the time. Yummy, and ---filling. Be prepared to be stuffed.

Yelp
We were looking for a good sushi after reading the reviews on Yelp. After waiting outside for over one and a half hour - it was Friday night, we finally made it to a table and were ready to order. We ordered some nigiris: tuna (まぐろ), fatty tuna とろ, salmon サモン, salmon roe いくら, scallops ほたて as well as sunomono. And what a surprise we had. The nigiris had so much wasabi that it completely overwhelmed the taste of fish, going up to your nose even. The fatty tuna was chewy, despite being a more delicate piece of the tuna. The sunomono was not grossly shopped, looking as fast food. We could not even eat the salmon roe nigiris after the first bite. It was way too salty and the brownish colour seemed to indicate a problem with the quality of the product or its freshness. The salmon roe nigiris were taken from the bill after raising the issue with the manager, acknowledging a problem. It is beyond comprehension how this place has been rated so highly and a concern about Yelp to provide reliable recommendations. Further to the "eat Tokyo" branding, we have been there to eat sushi too - Tokyo, and from the quality of the service to the quality of the sushi there is nothing to compare. Without a doubt, the worst sushi experience we have ever had and a disgrace to sushi.
google avatar

Yelp
Great chicken teriyaki bento box, which has juicy, well-portioned chicken with a side of salad, two small cucumber rolls, a fried tofu thing (delicious!), and a generous portion of rice. They have fresh, well-presented sashimi. Went back twice to get the same thing!

Yelp
This is my favourite place for sushi in London. I think. Today, at least. I mean, probably this month. Maybe ever? I don't know. Right now...my fave. It's great! The staff are a little brusque and there's a fair amount of churn at this restaurant, but that's a-ok with me. The menu is massive and most items have accompanying photos (LOVE) and the pages are laminated like a massive delicious binder that I had for 9th grade Biology. But this is more delicious, of course. I went with my Ma, who is not a big fan of sushi. She was trying to "eat outside the box" but I MADE HER EAT IN THE BOX INSTEAD. A BENTO BOX THAT IS! HAHAHAHA. It was great value with 9 GBP hooking my great Mom up with some miso soup, a crisp green salad, chicken teriyaki, sesame seed-studded rice, 2 cucumber maki and 4 cubes of tofu. Perfect. /have I had too much sake? This review makes me sound whack. Not whack though? The sushi rolls. Special love for the crispy spicy tuna, the delicious salmon skin and, well...most of the rolls, actually. The rice is perfect, the fillings/fish are plentiful, and I think they're great value for (London) money. The sides are also amazing; there are some new dimsum-y offerings (dumplings, siu mai) but I stick to wakame and nasi goreng, which are both done perfectly. I rarely get dessert post-sushi but here I've had both mango and green tea mochi and strongly, strongly recommend the former. Filled with a creamy puree-based ice-cream it's tart and smooth and creamy. Such a great end to the meal. Yelp note: it gets crazy busy round peak times, but don't be dissuaded as the turn-over is fast (especially if you're a small group of 2 or 3).
google avatar

Christine T.

Yelp
The menu is huge! We got one of the bento boxes with sashimi and the soy ramen. I personally enjoyed the tofu that came with the bento box. It was nice and crispy served with a light sauce. The only sashimi I liked was the salmon. I felt the other pieces were very fishy, which gives me the impression that it is not fresh. The ramen was average, the broth was tasty, the egg was almost perfectly cooked but there wasn't much else to it. Overall it was a good portion but all the aspects of it was just average. The service is very friendly. The ambience is alright, it was a very tight fit, I felt like I was sitting at a communal table, which is alright. Okay for small groups but I wouldn't recommend for a date night or large parties. The location is easily accessible, but not good for handicaps. The pricing is fair. I wouldn't mind coming back but it isn't something I would highly recommend or crave for. To me this place is just a so so restaurant that I would go to if I'm tired and don't want to cook home.

Yelp
Buckle in folks. This one's a good read. I went there with my girlfriend as it had previously been her go-to sushi restaurant. We hadn't quite had time to decide on what to order before the server came up to take our order. I knew what I wanted so I ordered crispy tuna (described on the menu as spicy tuna with fried bits) and tuna avocado and a couple of other rolls to share. My girlfriend was a little less decisive and although it had been maybe 10 seconds of waiting the server rudely walked away and proceeded to not come back to our table until we had to call her to get tap water which wasn't available for the first ten minutes of our sit down. When she comes back with the water she slammed it down on our table haphazardly and gives my girlfriend angry stares from then on. My gf acknowledges to me how uncomfortable this is making her but it seems we get a different server from then on. Anyway, when we get our food we naturally start tasting each one together to compare the rolls and determine which ones are our favorites. We both try a piece of every roll (and they all have 6 pieces-pretty standard). When we try the crispy tuna we are both presented with a practically inedible piece of warm dry tuna fish. No spice, no crunch, literally just warm dry tuna fish. Easily one of the most awful dishes I've ever eaten. And to top it off the dish was a staggering 5.5 quid for an inedible roll. I asked my girlfriend if she wanted to send it back and get something else but she was so uncomfortable by our server's previously hostile actions towards her that she told me to let it go and not worry. At the end of the meal I went to pay leaving the horrid tuna fish roll on the plate and told the cashier about our experience. She looked completely uninterested and asked what she wanted me to do. I asked her if she could not charge us for the roll we didn't eat and I would happily pay for the rolls we did. Well this clearly struck a nerve as she REFUSED to budge blaming me for not sending it back even when I had told her about the poor treatment my girlfriend received earlier. She claimed that we had eaten the entire roll (who doesn't at least bite the food that they ordered that they expected to be not just edible but good?) I explained that each of us trying a bite is not the equivalent of eating the whole roll and anyone who actually cares about their customers would understand that and be accommodating for the truly dismal experience they had. I eventually caved because of the back and forth arguing (which I never intended to argue. I had simply wanted to be treated with basic human decency) and paid the entire STAGGERING price of this horribly mediocre sushi. Overall, the experience that I had at this restaurant shows that they do not care about their customers. They want you to enjoy their poorly prepared product in silence, pay the exorbitantly gross price that they overcharge for weak-quality food, and then leave in silence. I hope this review is helpful in getting people to not share the same disappointing and demoralizing experience I had at this restaurant.

Yelp
Great sushi ! Go for the sushi boat if you want to try it all ! Sometimes you need to wait patiently to have a seat outdoors! In return, great fresh sushi !

Yelp
The waiting time is outrageous. I went to order a bento to takeaway and I waited for a grand total of 40mins. I thought the staff were busy serving others, but it turns out they just completely forgot about my order and left it there. The bento is completely cold by the time I got it. So...think twice if you are in a hurry.

Yelp
Worst service ever. Rude, contemptuous service staff, all of them. Came for dinner, should have gone to one of the many other places in the area.

Yelp
Sushiiiiiii!!! Yeah, baby! Like most my sushi reviews start, I love myself a bit of sushi [Japanese] so when a friend mentioned she had a new place to try out and no mates (shame) to go with, I jumped at the opportunity. Down a few roads, and quite a small venue inside, Eat Tokyo gave me a very authentic vibe and in addition to the tables full of Japanese businessmen, I had a feeling Eat Tokyo would be a great experience. Food wise? Mmmm. Good size portions, and well priced. I had a bento box and my friendless friend, chirashi. The sashimi was wonderful and I saw a brave couple attacking the sashimi boat which looked massive. They finished it as well; impressed. Now, I didnt have any actual rolls but the spicy salmon rolls and crispy rolls looked soooo good; the variety/choice is pretty spectacular too I'm going to have to come back and try them out with a bigger group. I'll be back!

Yelp
Quick glance: + huge selection of dishes + delicious meals + super friendly staff + booking recommended Full review: You know you've found a restaurant serving authentic Japanese dishes when you walk in Thursday lunch time and find most of the tables filled by Japanese businessmen and businesswomen. The place is a little bit cramped and the service is a little bit slow, but these are easily forgiven when you are met by smiling staff who greet you with "konnichiwa" on the way in and "arigato" on the way out. The menu is extensive - simple sushi, fancy sushi, bento box, soups, rice dishes, snacks, and more. This particular visit I had the rice box with steamed egg and chicken, plus a few gyoza shared with my friend. Absolutely delicious and very filling, costing only just over a tenner with green tea. Although the restaurant is fairly big, with three floors of tables packed next to each other, it is hugely popular and bookings are highly recommended.

Nida K.

Yelp
Torn between a 3 and a 4 star review, but I must say that the food is pretty good and the menu is almost torturous to look through because it's so damn extensive. Reason why I question the rating is because I always come here during my lunch break and it always takes forever to get my food. The first time I came here, I was literally running out the door still chewing my food as I left. The second time, nearly 30 minutes went by after ordering and I had to get my food wrapped up for take-away. Plus side is that they have a good number of servers running around, but clearly not enough kitchen staff to efficiently accommodate for the lunch rush. In short, good food, large menu, but don't come here if you're in a hurry.
google avatar

Daniel F.

Yelp
Firstly, the menu is HUGE. To me that sets alarm bells ringing. Why does a menu need to be so huge. Almost 20 pages. All for mostly sushi (I'd rather have it cut down so I'm not suspicious of how fresh it will be). Saying that the sushi was not bad. The Unagi was the real star. A regular portion is more than enough. No need to go large. The Prawn tempura was also fresh, crispy and good portion. Just think they need to cut down as it's a bit confusing having so much choice.

Yelp
Some of my friends have raved about this place and recommended it. My wife and I decided to go here for a Saturday lunch. Located on a quiet street of Red Lion, it was already busy only 30mins after opening. Some people had tables booked but we just walked in. My wife had the simple udon soup and gyoza. I had the katsu jyu. The katsu jyu was a lot of food for 9.50. Two chicken katsu cutlets with an egg sauce poured on, this was all on a good serving of rice. As a post workout gym this was the perfect dish of protein and carbs, not super clean eating but hit the spot. Will be back in the future!

Yelp
There was a lot good about Eat Tokyo, and I'm glad we ate there based on reviews we saw on Yelp. We had mostly nigiri and sushi rolls. I found the miso soup to be extremely salty, but my husband and son liked it. The edamame was very good. The fish was all extremely fresh, and the prices are reasonable. The chefs are clearly skilled, but that said, the wasabi in the nigiri was overpowering and made some of the dishes inedible. I've eaten sushi for years - in many different cities. But I've never had wasabi nearly ruin the dish. My 13 year-old son loves sushi. (He tried to convince us to go to Japan this summer rather than Europe.) He left five pieces of nigiri on his plate because the wasabi was just too much for him.

Yelp
The food was delicious. One of the best Japanese/sushi restaurants I've been to in London. There was plenty of choice and the portion sizes were pretty good too. On the down side was the 30 minute wait for a table and 5 of us (3 of whom were strangers) being squashed onto a table for 4 people. I don't envy the floor manager's job though so I think he did a good job under tough circumstances and we were asked if we would be happy to share with the others no one forced it upon us. The waiting staff were lovely and helpful and no one hurried us to leave even with the large queue outside. The tuna bento box was delicious and so were the prawn rolls. The plum wine was nice but I've definitely had better (and cheaper) elsewhere. Overall it was a good experience with great food and friendly table mates.

Yelp
Strongly recommended by my Italian friend who is a huge Japanese food fan. It's good, and the price seems reasonable, but maybe she had recommended the place a hundred times before I went there, I found my expectation was too high. Not the best I've had, but well worth a try.

Yelp
Probably the best japanese restaurant i have ever been to. The restaurant is small and always full so it is better to book a table before. The staff is really nice and well dressed with kimono and the quality of their chicken and fish is just amazing. The Chicken Teriyaki bento is only £9 and there is so much food in it , I like taking a doggy bag when I do not finish the box. You definitely have to go there!!

Yelp
Staff was very attending. Arrived and didn't have to wait. I sat upstairs which was nice. The place is small and cute with tables for two and tables for four. Ordered the salmon sashimi, mixed tempura, and tuna sashimi. The salmon sashimi was very very fresh and melted in your mouth. The mixed tempura was ok. It came with 7 pieces of fish, prawn, and vegetables. I didn't care for it. They had different fatty levels for tuna. I ordered the regular one. It was quite good but I personally preferred the salmon sashimi better. Overall great sushi spot. Will come back again.

Yelp
It was so bad that I can't believe it. The quality of the fish in sushi was so low and not fresh at all. It's nothing like in the pictures and the tuna was not even pink. The thickness of the rice wrapping it was double what you see in a supermarket sushi section. And when I complained, they even argue the fish was pale because it is a higher quality type but not because it is so stale! Such bullshit! Tap water was so cold that you can't even swallow it!

Yelp
Adequate food, but a little on the salty side. Good value for your money and large portions. Customer service is lacking though.

Yelp
Everytime I go to London, I always go to this place. Expect line-up but not for long. Waiters always try to accommodate even by sharing a table. Every food I tasted was awesome, fresh and authentic. A great place to know in the area!

Yelp
This was my second visit here as I liked the food the first time and the service was awkward but still ok. But this time, it was the worst. First, they want to seat us to a crammed up table while there were 2 other empty tables, they ignored us when we mentioned that. Then one of us ordered a basic sushi set. With her first bite, my friend who can not tolerate any spicy food at all, she found out the middle part of the nigiris were coated with wasabi, which is not a common thing in sushi restaurants outside of Japan as you'd add the wasabi only if you prefer. We ask the waiter if there is anything that they can do since she can not eat anything spicy. They said "It is the traditional way we do it here, but in Soho branch they don't do it like that (so much for tradition), if you didn't want it you should have said so in the beginning" even though there was no indication in the menu that is was spicy. They didn't offer to change it or not charging it as one would expect, they didn't even apologize for the inconvenience and looked at us as if we were asking for something crazy. It was around the end of lunch service, and even though we were assured twice by other waiters that it is ok for us to order dessert, a crazy and really really rude waitress in a kimono, came by the table and told us to leave 20 seconds after another one served us our dessert. And when I asked with a bewildered face if she wanted us to leave that second, she said yes, and went on to go downstairs to yell loudly at others about us in Japanese. Naturally, I wanted to see the manager but was told that he wasn't in the house. I would never ever return, and I won't recommend it to anyone with their right minds.

Yelp
I love this place. It was the first place I ever ate sushi after years of swearing I didn't like it and now, even after trying around to a few places, it's still my favourite. I'm vego and their vegetable rolls are ever so slightly warm and absolutely delicious. I've brought every friend willing to accompany me here and every time there's someone visiting from outside of London, this is where I take them. Really really good.

Yelp
Really good Japanese restaurant. Rarely cheap and good are together in London but this is one of those places (and the same applies to Eat Tokyo in Soho). Get ready to queue for some time before being able to eat or reserve a table in advance

Yelp
My favorite sushi in London! The place is quite small and the basement seating area is a bit stuffy, but I've yet to find better-tasting sushi for the prices here. Sushi rolls come in generous portions too.

Yelp
I have been to this branch a few times. The food is definitely value for money in respect of their portion and quality. However the thing is that their kitchen does not seem to be very clean, and the staff's attitude is not good. I would recommend it if your expectation is not too high, but otherwise there are plenty of good Japanese restaurants in London!

Yelp
I have been going to eat tokyo for years, the food is delicious and the staff are always friendly and efficient. Be prepared for a bit of a wait though, their new premises are much bigger here, but people will still be waiting out of the door at dinner time. Am never disappointed when we go!
