Alla Pala Starts Serving Roman-Style Pies in Eataly Today - Eater NY

"Alla Pala is a Roman pizza and wine bar inside the original Eataly in Flatiron, New York City. The pizzeria sells the doughy, rectangular pies by the slice alongside Italian wines. Nine pies are on offer each day, varying from lunch to dinner and using produce pulled from the market, with options such as the fiori di zucca and the capricciosa. Prices range from $4.90 for a margherita slice to $9.20 for a slice with 14-month aged prosciutto. The dough recipe comes from Fulvio Marino, using farina 00, buratto, and whole wheat flours from Italy." - Stefanie Tuder

We went for lunch here during office hours. You walk through a nice Italian supermarket to reach this restaurant which is under the same roof. Its right opposite the Madison Park. I went for the set lunch menu which was truly bang for the buck. The tuna was served to perfection. The breads served with extra Virgin olive oil was lovely. We opted for the Tiramisu Conoli and the spin to made my day. Probably the best Tiramisu I have had in the US.

Google
I had a great dinner with my colleagues at Eataly Flatiron! The food was fresh and flavorful, and the atmosphere felt like a piece of Italy. The service was friendly and we never felt rushed. Definitely recommend for a fun and delicious evening! 🍝🇮🇹 One thing: to order a cocktail the second time, I had to wait more than 20 minutes(( Thank you!

Google
Dined here recently. We were lucky to get last minute reservations on a Friday night. The atmosphere is fun and a nice escape from the city streets. Food was generously portioned and delicious! Staff was friendly and cocktails were interesting and very good! Definitely should plan to check this out while this pop up is here!

Google
Wonderful experience for a family brunch seated at a round table. The food was flavorful, and well prepared with the quality ingredients expected from Eataly (i.e. great olive oil). There was something for everyone in the menu. The ambiance is pleasant with all the natural light but I found the fake lemons/leaves a bit tacky. But the service was excellent and everyone enjoyed the experience. Would go back.

Google
Stopped in for the first time for lunch while on vacation with my husband and our friend. Atmosphere was a 10/10, food was okay. A little overpriced for what you were getting especially when compared to some of the other restaurants we ate at when we went to Little Italy. For example, the bottom crust of the pizza my husband got was floppy, not crispy at all. Staff and service was wonderful though, and the little market around the restaurant was wonderful.

Absolutely loved the experience at Amalfi Rooftop at Eataly. The al fresco vibes really made us feel like we were in the Italian coast of Amfi. The food was delicious, well seasoned and bursting with flavors. The eggplant ravioli was my absolute favorite, very decadent. Also tried the Lemone Mojito, very refreshing and light. Overall beautiful, great service and would definitely come back!

Google
Actually give it 4.5 stars The food in the restaurants is very good. Authentic Italian pasta with traditional minimalist pasta sauces that don't overpower the dishes, but complement the pasta, leaving the pasta to be the hero of the dish. Freshly made and cooked to perfection - slightly al dente. Great wines by the glass to match. The atmosphere is bustling and busy and people watching is fun and entertaining, as you eat in the busy marketplace. There is a formal dining room ( where I ate last time) and a roof top ( haven't been) option. I prefer in the market area to see the beauty of the ingredients around you whilst you dine There are plenty of take out options, including a superb pizza by the slice counter. Great spot to buy all types of Italian ingredients to take home and make yourself.

Google
Good eat in bakery and sandwiches, as well as a nice butcher shop, fresh pasta, canned fish, sardines, and, of course, produce and tomato sauces. Some might view the prices of certain items as a little overpriced, but you can shop around and find something of good quality. The turkey meatballs at the butcher shop are delicious, I made some with some sauces and fresh pasta I bought at the store. The cannoli with sheep milk is excellent.

Yelp
Loooove coming here! I decided to get a sandwhich for lunch one day and it didn't disappoint. They have so many options too and you'll never get bored Not only is it great for meals but also for getting groceries. I always come here a lot to get things to make a charcuterie board with my friends I enjoy how there's lots of different stations too. The interior is decorated in a cute way and makes you feel like you've transported to Europe! Everyone is always super nice and helpful too whenever trying to find items or to make the shopping experience more smooth

Yelp
I had read about this place prior to our trip to NYC. We found it pretty easily, after walking from our hotel. It is part restaurants, part grab & go, part bar, part grocery. They had two gelato stations. There is various seating in and outside. There was a coffee cafe too. I got a focaccio sandwich to go, and a cold Peroni. My granddaughters each got grab & go pasta. We then each had a bowl of gelato. Delish. We sat outside to finish that before taking our haul back to the hotel. It's worth a visit and I would return.

Yelp
Eataly never disappoints--especially when it comes to gelato. Smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced in sweetness, the gelato here continues to be a standout every single time. Tried the lemon cake this time and it was a pleasant surprise. The flavor was refreshingly zesty, with a hint of complexity that made it more than just your average citrus dessert. The sponge was light and airy--just the right texture to complement the bright flavor. Whether you're popping in for a quick scoop or browsing the bakery for a treat, Eataly always delivers on quality.

Yelp
Love love love! One of my favorite places in the entire U.S Lots of eateries and fresh Italian produce to choose from. I have enjoyed the pasta trio with a lovely glass of vino. I enjoyed making my own fresh charcuterie board and sitting outside in the perfect weather to enjoy it with great company. Staff are always knowledgeable and professional. They are quick to make sure you have a great experience.

Yelp
I purchased a couple of pastries from La Pasticceria inside of Eataly. There were so many options to choose from and everything looked delicious. I wanted one of each, but decided on a slice of the Caramello and the Terracotta. The Caramello was caramel dessert and had what seemed like a chocolate mousse. The layers surrounded the mousse tasted like caramel and almost had a pudding consistency. Overall, it wasn't a bad tasting dessert just not my favorite. The Terracotta intrigued me because it looked like a cube of chocolate and I wondered what was inside. The outside layer of chocolate was divine. Absolutely delicious. As you keep eating, you'll taste a caramel center towards the bottom and a dark cookie like crust. This was my favorite dessert. I didn't expect it to blow me away like it did. I highly recommend trying this dessert.

Yelp
If you haven't been to an Eataly, you're missing out! It's all things Italian and almost evening is prepared fresh. It's kind of like a grocery store but more even. There's a sit down restaurant inside as well and a cafe right by the entrance as well. It can get busy here so be ready for somewhat of a crowd. You can get fresh made pasta and most of the to to go stuff is prepared the same day as well.
google avatar

Yuelin L.

Yelp
I stopped by Eataly near the WTC and tried two pasta dishes from their quick-serve counter. Service was fast, portions were decent, and both pastas tasted better than expected--fresh and flavorful. Great option if you're in the area and looking for a casual, affordable meal without sitting down. Bonus: They also sell aged steaks, seafood, and Italian cold cuts in the grocery section--sometimes with discounts. Worth a look if you're shopping nearby.

Yelp
I came here late night with some friends and everything had pretty much closed except the restaurant. We ordered the pizza and some pasta- it could be our American taste buds but the pastas and pizza were very light and we felt like it needed more salt or seasoning. Our waiter wasn't that attentive and we had to keep finding him. Overall food was decent but way overpriced for some mediocre food in my opinion.
google avatar

Mary L.

Yelp
This place's service has really gone downhill. The quality and care of the waiters used to be top notch, and now they barely pronounce the menu items correctly. Im all about diversity but people should be knowledgeable and professional. The place is just a mess now.

Yelp
Walked in to my favorite Italian store in NY as it's been on my list to try out for a while. The place lived up to my expectations. Walked into the coffee bar followed by the Gelato station and a tasting table where they were sampling Panettone . Waked in further to aisles stocked with Italian cookies and chocolates , spices, pasta and more . The path leads you to am array of Italian sweet treat's , pastries tarts and tempting cakes colorfully topped with assorted goodies in different shapes and sizes . I picked the pistachio loaf and couldn't be happier with its texture and flavor. There was a long wait to get to pick your pasty choice but the beautiful ambiance and colorful eye catching display kept me going . The store continued to amaze me with the next aisle of pickled items like olives, pasta sauce options , deli meat choices and more galore ! There is a sit down restaurant , a meat section and a bountiful of food selections to eat & take home It's like an Italian wonderland that sucks you in and could get to be an expensive but worthwhile experience.

Yelp
Il Gran Caffe in Eataly is holding a Tiramisu Festival. This will run through early July. Six varieties of the renowned dessert are offered and are in disposable jars. I paired the pistachio tiramisu with a cappuccino. This tiny dessert had crunch and cream but somehow needed more flavor and was more solidified. At $10.99 each tiramisu this makes for a rather expensive dessert. Just being here is pleasurable. I have been coming here since it opened and eaten countless pastries and drunk many types of coffee. Service is fine but often more people should be manning the station.

Yelp
Amalfi, the current rooftop, La Pizza & La Pasta, and Il Gelato have all been very good. I've also stopped in for just a drink at two other places, and every time the service is great and the food is just phenomenal. I really had never had Italian food so good until I came to this city.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a few bites here, the faccacia sandwich with parma, cheese and zuchini was incredible! I could spend a day just looking at the delicious treats in this eatery!

Yelp
Review for their holiday panettone: would recommend! Panettone is a sweet bread loaf served during the winter holidays usually with candied fruits or other toppings added. Eataly makes several variations: limoncello, pistachio cream, classic, and pear & chocolate. They're prepared with a lievito madre (mother yeast), eggs and Bourbon vanilla and the classic version I tried included raisins and candied orange peel. The bread was pillowy, soft, sweet with a strong note of citrus and a dab of bourbon. Goes terrific with a black coffee, maybe slightly too sweet though with a coffee wil help balance it out.

Yelp
My hubs had never gone to Eataly so as a rite of passage, we went to the large location in Flat Iron. I always love the energy and wide variety of stalls whether you are looking for groceries, speciality cheese and bread or wanting to enjoy a bite. We went for dinner and the service was quick and efficient. Our waiter offered us some suggestions but we had our hearts set on cacio e pepe, side of bread and mozzarella. I was genuinely disappointed by the bread, it was very hard and not fresh. I will say that the Cacio E Pepe was made with very fresh noodles and came close to what we had in Italy. Sadly nothing compares to Italy but we enjoyed it nonetheless.

Yelp
We visited La Pizza & La Pasta on a Friday for lunch. Everything my friends & I had was amazing - I particularly enjoyed the Lambrusco, margherita pizza, broccolini, and focaccia! The pizza is about as close as I've come to real Italian pizza in the US! I've been thinking about it ever since and look forward to going back.
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
We went here right after lunch hour but the place was still really busy. You decided to get a table in the Italian restaurant and the woman at the front told us she could see us if we promised to be done in exactly an hour. So we took her up on it rather than wait for a different table. Service was good and food was ok, nothing really special as it was just salad and a pizza NYC prices.
google avatar

Sonal B.

Yelp
My absolute fav place to go when you just want to sample, have a good slow time savoring your food and relaxing is your focus. Had such a good time here browsing the aisles full of Italian goods, confections and groceries. Also an amazing place for good from such a variety of offerings. Had the rotisserie chicken, tiramisu and a glass of Prosecco from 3 diff counters. Has great seating, service is top notch and it's like you are in indoor streets of a city.

Yelp
This place is good stop by for the quick dessert! Post dinner, had a craving for their Chocolate Gelato and it was wonderful!! They do have options of non dairy which worked for me! The service is quick and the ambiance is fun to walk around or just to stop by and have a good coffee and dessert stop! Do go here on the late evening and enjoy a good dessert and coffee, they have plenty options to select from besides Gelatos!
google avatar

Yelp
You don't come here for bargain prices. You come here for extraordinary variety and superior quality. And Eataly comes through. If you have skills in the kitchen, you can get fresh fish of all kinds, mushrooms you can't find elsewhere and the list goes on And on. And on. Produce, meats, pastas, cheeses, chocolates, etc etc. This is a destination grocer, and my wife and I come down from Buffalo, NY a few times a year to stock up.

Yelp
I visited Eataly in Flatiron for a handmade pasta class. I had so much fun and I learned about the different flours used to make pasta from scratch. The pasta was soft and it will take some getting used to eating it. I'm not used to eating soft pasta. The class was very fun and l learned a lot. The instructor was engaging and fun. I received a meal during the class. I had salad, red wine and a pasta dish. I would definitely recommend to this class to anyone who is interested and I really enjoyed the food. I would let everyone know that the class is in an open area so patrons in the store can watch the class. This store is huge and there's a lot of variety here. I will definitely return to go to their restaurant and shop in the store to buy some goods to make meals at home. Everything looked fresh. They have sandwiches, salads, meats, gelato etc. I took my handmade pasta home and I cooked it the next day with Alfredo sauce and shrimp. I really enjoyed it. I'll be back soon before the summer is over to enjoy the festivities.

Yelp
This is a very well known location in New York. Eataly is NOT a restaurant, it's similar to a shopping mall in the sense that it's comprised of multiple different smaller shops and cafes that all sell/serve Italian goods and foods. The bathrooms have very long waits. The location itself is very nice and feels Italian somewhat, and has great options for purchase. Overall, this place is good, but I wouldn't call it a must-see.
google avatar

Christina Y.

Yelp
I love this place when I'm in NYC! It's a fun place to shop and see new product while getting some epic Italian! I've become obsessed with their pasta sampler. A great way to not have to choose which pasta when you're by yourself.
google avatar

Tina M.

Yelp
Il Gelato is one of my favorite spots downtown for sweet treats. This time I tried a Bombolato which took me a total of three attempts to finish! It was massive but tastes sooooo good I wouldn't dare let any of it go to waste!
google avatar

Tata G.

Yelp
Just come here to have coffee at Cafe lavazza. Coffee always tasted good & so are the cakes. Theres seating available. As expected food & drinks are pricier than usual but worth it. love the vibe of this place. Always enjoy browsing all the Italian goodies & restaurants inside the same building. Bathroom is available. Accessible to public transport as well. Near Madison square park too.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
This place can be really great. There's so much unique food made onsite and dry goods imported from Italy. If there's ever any oddly specific produce, meat, cheese or pasta needed for any recipe this is the place to go. Food can be pricey but it's a great place to bring tourists and family on their trip to NYC. There's always lots of classes and demos.
google avatar

Yelp
Every time you're in the Flatiron area, make sure you stroll through Eataly. If you can't find it here, you probably won't need it. It's always fun, and mesmerizing, watching the Eataly eateries creating their magic (refer to the video). If you're not aware, Eataly also has a rooftop restaurant, Serra by Birreria, that is very good. They've covered every angle, are experts at their crafts, and attract the entire world.

Sara M.

Yelp
I enjoyed my food from Eataly. The people taking orders were really nice and helpful. We got a couple of their pizzas, the fungi and a meat pizza. They were delicious. Unfortunately, there was no where to sit in the restaurant so we had to take our food to go and find somewhere to eat. Luckily, we found some tables pretty quickly but I would have loved to eat there.
google avatar

Ka C.

Yelp
Some may call Eataly a "tourist trap" and while I don't disagree, it is still an excellent stop for foodies local and otherwise. I got the prime rib sandwich here a few days ago, and while the price has gone up significantly (now $30... RIP) it is still generously piled with layers and layers of beef, seasoned with just the right amount of sea salt and EEVO (and nothing else). Not too fatty or salty, just *chef's kiss* perfection in simplicity. I shared half a sandwich with some veggie sides, and it was more than enough for me as a lunch portion. They make this sandwich to order, so it took maybe 5-8 mins to get my order. Stopped by the gelato stall afterwards to get a small scoop of indulgent and creamy pistachio gelato to round out a delicious meal. The entire food court is grab and go but they have open seating throughout the store and we did not have issues finding a place to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
What is there to say? I love this place. It's one of my first stops every time I'm in Manhattan. Today, however, marks the first time I really sat down and enjoyed some of their food and boy oh boy, that focaccia topped with ham and melted, buttery cheese on top was incredible. Service was great and as usual the ambiance is akin to walking through what I imagine Italy itself must feel a bit like. I absolutely love Eataly!
google avatar

Mounir E.

Yelp
Café Lavazza is located inside the busy Eataly grocery market. While it's a bit pricey, they offer a wide variety of pastries and gelato. I love this particular location because I can enjoy my coffee while sitting outside across the beautiful Madison Square Park.
google avatar

Juliana G.

Yelp
I recently hosted a cooking class at EATALY and I was so happy with how it all turned out. The staff was delightful to work with, the food was delicious and the guests had a blast. Would highly recommend!
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
A bit smaller than some of their other locations but still with the basic Italian groceries and a somewhat limited selection of quick serve options. Their main meat and pasta making station closed at 7:00 pm which was disappointing, leaving only the sit-down restaurant or focaccia sandwich area as options. It was a pleasant environment and the staff was working hard.
google avatar

Ayana A.

Yelp
I attended the pizza making class on a Friday evening. The instructors were really nice and charismatic. You get a free glass of wine, take home dough, pizza, and appetizers. If you don't want wine, you can also get San Pellegrino Limonata. Definitely seems like a couples activity! I do wish there were different types of appetizers or larger pizza since the class cost $100+. The place was beautiful but I do wish there was a bit more for a 1.5 hour experience.
google avatar

Tamara M.

Yelp
I always love coming here. I came for my morning coffee and sat on the bench. I loved looking outside while sipping my cappuccino. To have your coffee look like this, you must order a cappuccino with whole milk. It won't work with almond milk or a latte.

Eugene D.

Yelp
The concept and ambiance is great. But the restaurants fail to deliver. The food is acceptable but I expect more delight for the prices charged. It's all mediocre at best. Many nearby Italian restaurant are more worth it. I've tried Eataly over a half-dozen times. I give up; not going back.

Yuliya M.

Yelp
Expensive . took pasta with zucchini and glass of wine 60$. we are ok? ..................................:::
google avatar

Nehal A.

Yelp
Have been here multiple times in past few weeks to buy pasta for dinner, fruits, chicken, cheese. The place looks so cool with all different kinds of fruits. I have started getting their whole rotisserie chicken which is only $15 and has great seasoning. The cheese section has lots of variety with nodini di mozzarella being my favorite. The checkout lanes were always short, I usually take the self checkout and get done within a minute.
google avatar

Jackson D.

Yelp
This place was PACKED with people! Had a lot of different options and all looked so good. Ambiance was top tier and they went hard decorating for Christmas. Got some sandwiches and they were all pretty good.
google avatar

Paula R.

Yelp
The restaurants are honestly hit or miss but I love shopping here. The homemade pastas, butcher, etc are great but my favorite is the produce section. You'll find herbs, fruits, and veggies that you won't find in your typical grocery store. It is sometimes crowded with tourists but honestly it's worth a visit.
google avatar

Emina S.

Yelp
I love Eataly and should visit more in person! I will say, much of the recent premade savory food lacks spice and flavor -- pastas, sauces notably while the produce quality can be hit or miss but their desserts, pantry items, cheese selection, and freezer finds are basically bar none! There is so much to discover if you're shopping in store. You can watch live as their talented staff whips up various Italian/Italian-American classics.. or you can order grocery delivery as we typically do. Perfect store to pick up some antipasto before a Central Park picnic! I was recently surprised with a box of small desserts which included mini cream puffs, a mini chocolate torte, and some other cute little things, all of which were HEAVENLY (especially the pistachio cream puff.) Got a fruit tart during the same surprise which had a light sweetness with an equally light tart bite and was such a treat despite its messy presentation from a rough delivery trip which left a lot of fruit in a corner (I'm sure they originally had it arranged beautifully.) The fruit on top was perfectly ripe and it was a perfect size for a gathering of 6-10 people.
google avatar

Esther R.

Yelp
I visited on a Saturday night to try the Semolina cake and cappuccino. The cake was good but would have been better if warmed up. The cappuccino was delicious, slightly sweet, and definitely worth ordering. Seating is limited as it gets busy, but the atmosphere is very aesthetic!
google avatar

Mandy T.

Yelp
A coffee shop located inside the Eataly grocery market. They have coffee, baked goods, chocolate specialty drinks and gelato. There is seating inside and good for people watching those that are walking past the flatiron building. Tried their iced mocha, not impressed as I've had better back in Vancouver. Couldn't taste much chocolate if at all for a mocha and for a place with a specialty drinks list that is mostly hot chocolates. The coffee taste was ok. Got a large for $7.
google avatar

Yelp
When Eataly first opened, I remember it being a must-visit landmark in Flatiron. While I and many others were enamored in the early days, the excitement seemed to taper off. It had been a couple years since I'd been, but after lunch in Flatiron this weekend, we decided to stop in for a few specialty grocery items. I had honestly forgotten how great Eataly really is. Amazing cheeses, freshly baked breads, ample seafood, fresh pasta, an incredible butcher and poultry selection, hard to find dairy products, massive selection of Italian pantry items and dry goods, rare fruits and vegetables, and a bigger mushroom selection than probably anywhere. Not to mention the various restaurants serving Italian wines, cheeseboards, whole roasted fish... We spent about an hour browsing around and picking out some items for a weekend supper. Of course there is a mark up, but Eataly is not as expensive as it could be, especially given the quality and curation of goods. They even carry my favorite Battenkill creamery milk I love with my coffee. If you're willing to handle the crowds, Eataly is still an impressive establishment worthy of a visit.

Yelp
So....since the new location is not up on Yelp yet (corner of 49th and Avenue of the Americas by Rockerfeller Center) I'll do my review here. I've had your food elsewhere (this one location in particular) and loved it every time I've gone. The fresh pasta you have for sale amazing as well. However, I'm a bit saddened and upset with the opening of this new location in midtown. It's been advertised for the past year, and this week I've been trying to get to the location to purchase a sandwich or other items and all I've seen have been opening parties for Junior Middle Level Management dikwads with only a sign saying it was opening May 15 at 5 pm to the public. I get it, you're trying to promote company events to order catering from you, but I hope you remember that there's also that one person such as myself that works in the area and also wants to enjoy the experience with this new location. Today, being it was opened I said to myself I finally can go and grab me a sandwich only to find myself behind 100 NYU grads and family ordering...so I walked out. If this is going to be the experience then I'll have to pass. For you guys it's great because you'll always have customers and you'll be fine. Hopefully my company will order from you guys and I'll try your food then. Thanks.

Yelp
This place has almost everything Italian under one roof. If you enjoy chaos, then come here. Every single inch of this place is packed with Italian delicacies, snacks, treats, coffee, cheese, pasta, pizza, wine, bread, pastries and people who want to enjoy all of these things all at the same time. Just awesome!
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
Good fresh food, expensive and crowded ... and the espresso bar is nice but feels like the coffee should be a little better... just feels like it is missing something.
google avatar

Eva B.

Yelp
This is always a favorite stop of mine when in NYC! A great place to grab something delicious to take home or snag a seat at one of the bars for drinks and great Italian food! Such a cool Italians market vibe. Do not forget to buy some fresh made pasta and sauce while you are there! It is soooooo delicious! Also the prices on everything really are not bad especially considering the quality and location!

Yelp
On my last night in NY, I wanted to have dinner at a more laid back location. I have been to Eataly in Chicago, and wanted to check out NY. It was very busy to my surprise on a Thursday night. I had the most delicious dinner, of course I went with my favorite option Seafood and Pasta. I had a glass of white wine & Linguini All'astice. If you're in the city check it out for lunch or dinner.
