Best Fried Chicken in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Blink and you might miss this unassuming restaurant in the Peachtree Parkway Shopping Plaza. Owned by Hong Kong native James Chien, the longtime chef’s love of cooking up American and Southern comfort foods is on full display in dishes like classic meatloaf and burgers, lobster mac and cheese, seafood linguine tossed in Cajun cream sauce, and a chicken andouille hoagie. But the bone-in Southern fried chicken blue plate special is the move and comes with a choice of two or four pieces of crispy fried chicken and sides of garlic parmesan mashed potatoes and sauteed green beans." - Eater Staff

This place is a hidden gem. There was absolutely no one in the restaurant when we arrive so we were a bit skeptical. The food was absolutely amazing and the owner/chef was very attentive and kind. We were pleasantly surprised at first bite. If you are ever in the area you absolutely have to stop by.

Google
I am so glad we came here. Best food we had in GA. When we were visiting we try like 4-5 restaurants per day. We came when they open and made a reservation the night before. It didn't seem packed so we were worry the google reviews wasn't real! But wow... we had shrimp and grits and the fried chicken. That was my go to breakfast the 3 days I was there. Tried at different restaurants, the shrimp and grits were perfectly season, the shrimp was so fresh and sweet. The fried chicken was season to perfection, the skin was crispy and the meat was so juicy. I would go all the way back to GA just to eat here again.

Google
One word: EXCELLENT! I’ve never looked up a restaurant on Google, feasted my eyes photos from other people’s reviews, then enjoyed every single bite of my own meal as confirmation…until Eating Americana. The food is really as good as it looks in the photos. And Chris was such a wonderful server and gracious host! This place was worth it 💯

Google
Never heard of this place. My partner in crime found this wonderful restaurant. Thanks to him! I got the meatloaf and it is amazing. Loved the presentation. The chicken andouille sandwich was amazing as well! Chris was our server. Very nice guy and very attentive! Will come back to try all of the other dishes.

Google
Their pastas and desserts are literally fine dining taste. Full of flavor and goodness.

Google
We were a little skeptical of the good reviews we read about the restaurant when we walked inside and looked around at the decor and empty restaurant on a Saturday night, but the food definitely delivers - at least the fried shrimp plate and the fried bone and chicken plate.

Esmé

Google
Great brunch find! Very low-key and quick breakfast. They had a great peach Bellini. We got the French toast and the hash with a side of cheese grits. The cheese grits were super solid. The French toast was lovely as well! The hash with eggs were a bit dry and a little saltier than I would like, so I wouldn't personally recommend that. Would definitely come back here again just for the Bellini's! Staff was great and would recommend this place for a quick brunch!

Google
Nice little hidden gem in Peachtree Corners. We went right at opening since we were nearby and the star rating stood out. Wedge salad was good, the burger was delicious, and the shrimp and sausage pasta special was really tasty! Food came out fast — there was just the right amount of service - attentive but not interruptive. Not much ambiance to speak of but the prices are wonderful for the taste profile! We will likely be back when we are in the area!

Yelp
Thankful to eat lunch with a friend at Eating Americana! The ambiance is cozy and the food was a recommendation by the service of a hospitable waitress! We loved the creaminess of the pasta and seafood was delicious!
google avatar

Julyana T.

Yelp
Very non assuming establishment, basic settings (not fancy & no frills) with straight up good food. We were the first customer before the dinner rush (arrived around 6PM on a Saturday evening). Food came out super fast.

Yelp
Found this location in an old strip mall. The vibes are very interesting with jazz music playing and food in the American/italian/southern food genre. Service was very attentive. But it was very cold inside the restaurant (heater not working)? The food was great but it is a bit $$.

Howard L.

Yelp
Great food, reasonable prices! Had a tremendous brunch here with my wife and we were delighted with the food and service.

Yelp
Our seafood omelette was loaded the crawfish and shrimp and covered by tasty hollandaise. The pancakes are remarkably light and delicious also. Grandson loved the Brioche French toast. The service was excellent as we were seated right away. If you haven't tried this place you are missing out for sure. We will definitely eat here again when we come back through Norcross.

Yelp
My family and I never heard of Eating Americana until we were searching for something different on Yelp. This restaurant has five stars so we said, why not give it a try. Wow we're we impressed. The restaurant doesn't open until 5:00PM so it was perfect for dinner time. We started off with the Chipotle Wings as an appetizer and boy they did justice to our taste buds and really hit the spot in our bellies. Our entrees included the Seafood Pasta, Loaded Mac & Cheese and Fried Shrimp Plate. Every plate arrived Hot and Freshly made. Each dish looked mouth watering and was delicious. The Seafood Pasta is loaded with Shrimp and the Shrimp Plate had about eight lightly crispy fried shrimp that rested on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes. Yummy!!! The Loaded Mac & Cheese was loaded with Chicken and Bacon and a lot of cheese. In addition our waiter Jose, provided excellent customer service from start to finish. He took the time to explain the menu options and the specials of the day. On top of that l, Jose was the only waiter on staff on Saturday and his customer service was still top notch. If I had a complaint, it would be that the restaurant could use more lighting. It was a little dark for me and I was happy we set close to a window. Overall, I would 100% recommend this restaurant for lunch or for dinner. It did NOT disappoint. Enjoy, we did!!!

Yelp
Great food, chef prepared! We will visit every time we are in the area. Make sure you try the seafood omelette

Yelp
I read an article on a food blog about the fried chicken here. The service was great, but the food and ambiance were lackluster.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved it! Meatloaf was excellent. Service was perfect. We have found a new place to get great food.

Yelp
As soon as we walked in we were greeted by our server. My husband and I wanted a quick lunch spot so we chose here. Once we ordered the food came out quickly and the food was fresh and the presentation was on point! It's definitely a hidden gem!! Its definitely a small cafe vibe which was a change of pace that was refreshing! We'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I've seen Eating Americana had updated it's menu on Facebook. I'm a big fan of lobster rolls from local food places including food trucks. Chef James created an open faced roll with tasty fries. It had delicious and tasty lobster meat in perfect proportion to the bread. I'll come back to try some of the other new items. This place never disappoints. 5 stars!!
google avatar

Dave G.

Yelp
We enjoyed our meal here very much. The food was fresh and the staff super friendly. My only suggestion for improvement is to increase the portion size. Given the prices, I expected more food (though the pancakes were plentiful). That said, the food we received was quite tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
A hidden gem. Located in the Goodwill parking lot behind a Wendy's and Arby's this place surprised me big time. We got our order to go and the process was easy. The service was quick and friendly. We opted for the fried chicken and it was some of the best fried chicken we've had in the Atlanta area. It comes with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. They also have the option to get large sides to go to feed 2-3 people easily. Inside there is also a small bar to sit at or some tables to dine in. Anyone that enjoys southern fried chicken should definitely give Eating Americana a shot.

Donna G.

Yelp
Unfortunately we didn't get to taste the food. We were seated without a reservation After flagging down our server to order we were then told the food wasn't going to be prepared until the guests with reservations arrived and had their food. We had plans for the later part of the evening and the server was unable to assure us that we could get our food within the next hour , even if reduced to a few sandwiches. The restaurant was not crowded. It was more than half empty. We left FYI, if you order hot tea they bring out a stack of tea bags and tell you that each tea bag will cost you $3 a piece. Why not have you select one bag and take the rest away, instead of making you feel like you're getting ripped off ? We won't be returning regardless of the number of stars in the rating. Terrible business practices probably due to being understaffed in the kitchen

Yelp
We saw great reviews but almost didn't go in because of how unassuming Eating Americana appeared from the parking lot. We're delighted that we stayed! It proved to be a very delicious and delightful experience. The food was terrific!!! My wife had the fried shrimp on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes in a Cajun cream sauce. Sublime. I had shrimp and grits. Simple ... but one of the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, all very high quality ingredients. For desert we tried chocolate pie and bread pudding. Both were scrumptious. The service was quick, friendly, very professional. But here's the crazy part ... the chief was on his own! He seated us, took our order, cooked our food and served us. He was efficient, kind, fast ... but never seemed rushed. We never wanted for anything ... drinks were filled discreetly before they were empty, orders taken calmly. He wasn't flustered. I'm speechless. We will return!

Yelp
The food and service get 5 stars. Best bone in fried chicken I've ever eaten. Mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese were also to die for. Dining room is bare bones on decor but spacious and clean. Owner/chef was so friendly and quick to bring out our food. Only regret is we live in Smyrna and can't get here every week.

Yelp
Ok I must say the reviews of this place was spot on. First timer and I had the seafood omelet it was amazing. I am looking forward to coming back and trying something different. I am sorry I was going to take a pic but I tasted it and the rest is history. I will do better next time.

Yelp
Outstanding food. James, the Chef and owner is amazing at his craft and you will be back. The friend chicken is one of the best I've ever had. And the meatloaf is better than my mom's. Shhh. And I went for brunch and the Eggs Benedict was outstanding, as expected. Go try it!
google avatar

Krys G.

Yelp
Made a reservation for Sunday brunch. All the tables were socially distant apart. This was the main reason we chose to eat here. The servers were all wearing masks. There was a board advertising the special of the day, some type of lump crab meat. I decided on eggs Benedict with ham and fried potatoes. Hubby got a ham and cheese omelette with fried potatoes. Everything tasted delicious and was cooked perfectly. The ingredients were nice and fresh. If we weren't driving we would have had a mimosa or two.
google avatar

Paul A.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service great. Lost a star for the uncomfortable seating and tiny tables.
google avatar

Lance C.

Yelp
Eating Americana is a hidden gem in Peachtree Corners. Chef James is the real deal, his comfort food is top shelf. He makes the best burger and fries in the city, as well as fried chicken and Poboy sandwiches. You don't want to miss this experience!
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
YUM....YUM....YUM I started with dessert....homemade bread pudding! It was delicious. I had the shrimp hoagie and my husband had the chicken andouille hoagie. The shrimp were HUGE and the combination of chicken and andouille was quite tasty. The owner is very nice and an excellent cook. He does it all. I can't wait to try brunch.
google avatar

Yelp
Looks can be deceiving. Outside? Looks like any other place stuffed into a strip mall. First impression inside? Meh. Menu? Short. We ordered and began looking about. Friendly. Quiet. Clean. Got our food. Excellent. I had a chicken and andouille hoagie. Wife had friend chicken. Hoagie was well-balanced, high-quality, delicious. Fries were nicely seasoned. Excellent. Wife's fried chicken was also excellent. Breast was juicy and hot. Potatoes and green beans, nicely done. This was our first visit, won't be our last.

Yelp
We have been reading about this spot on Nextdoor for quite some time, but we only recently got to try it out first hand. Friday night rolled around, and the spot we had planned to enjoy felt farther away than we wanted to travel. The spot we had intended to visit served Southern cuisine, so we decided to look for Southern closer to home. Enter Eating Americana. The folks on Nextdoor have been raving about their Family Fried Chicken Dinner, so we decided to give it a shot. A chicken, chopped and fried, green beans, macaroni and cheese, and rolls. Made to serve four. Sounded perfect. We called and placed the order with no problem at all, and it was ready for pick up exactly when promised. The meal was FANTASTIC. The chicken was crispy and fresh. Not at all dry (avoiding that other word here). Mac and cheese was creamy and rich. The green beans were crisp and made me feel virtuous for eating something green. We will definitely be back. We really want to try the seafood dishes, as well. However, the value of the family chicken dinner will be hard to beat! This is a great addition to the neighborhood. We will be doing our part to make sure it stays around for a good long time!

Yelp
Family was looking for somewhere "new" to try out, and my wife came across this restaurant, as she said it had "high ratings". Why not? I'm the first to arrive at the restaurant, and the server goes ahead and seats me at the table. As I'm sitting, the first thing I'm doing is scrambling on my phone to see if I'm at the "right place", because I'll admit, for a place that's highly rated, the vibe and decor at the restaurant seemed a little, too simple? Anyways, the family shows up, and we order. I'm not sure if it's mind games that the owner of this establishment is playing....because we've all been to those fancy restaurants that excel and go over the top with their designs, layouts....only to be bummed out when the food isn't good..... But this place.....it may not look like much, but when the food comes out. Wow. The food here is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. We had the seafood pasta, meatloaf, fried chicken (fried chicken has a note that it takes longer to prepare - worth the wait). All in all, if you want great tasting food, give this place a try. Can't wait to go back.

James W.

Yelp
My wife likes this place more than I do. Food is good, pretty plain atmosphere and prices seem to be a little high for what you get. Wife likes the lobster mac and cheese.
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
Excellent!! Here on business and saw the great reviews on Yelp. I'm adding a great review also. My wife got a 1/2 rack of BBQ Baby Back Ribs and it was huge!! Tasted great too! I got the Loaded Mac n Cheese with Chicken Bites and Bacon. Best Mac ever. Topped it off with a Rum Bread Pudding for my wife and Peanut Butter Pie for me. Excellent!! The place looks like a small take out place from the outside, but is dine in. Owner is very nice and does everything himself. Give him some love. He deserves your business. You will be glad you did.

Yelp
GO GET FRIED CHICKEN FROM HERE I found this place on Yelp because of all the five star reviews and decided to come try the chicken. This is some real home cooked food. The chicken was PHENOMENAL. I loved the mashed potatoes as much as I loved the chicken. He cooks every order of chicken fresh so it's hot and crispy and perfectly juicy when it comes out. No greasy dry pieces here. Stop what you are doing and go try this food, you'll be SO glad you did. They also have beer and wine, I sipped on some Prosecco while I waited for my chicken to fry. You won't be disappointed!!!!! Trust me!

Matt L.

Yelp
The food is excellent and the service is superb. We have it a regular stop for Sunday branch and are always pleased.

Yelp
Mothers' Day review. Food was terrific! Quality, presentation and taste is outstanding. Service...not so much. Arrived at 11:45 for our noon reservations. Only 1 table had guests and they started seating our party of 6 in the center of the room, by the door & right next to "check-in". I asked if we could move to another table (again, they're all open) and was told no. Really?!? Plenty of tables and we can't move? Odd that the servers aren't engaging and try to make Mothers' Day special. No, "happy Mother's Day, welcome to Eating Americana". No asking, "can I start you off with mimosas"? Or, "I highly recommend the amazing shrimp and grits". Servers would make more. Owner/chef would make more. Guests would have a better experience and come more frequently. It's a win for everyone. Unfortunately, during our 45 minute visit the restaurant was less than half full. Even though there were plenty of tables, we had the opportunity to hear them turn away at least 6 groups because they didn't have reservations. No offer the squeeze them in or waitlist them. Kinda sad because I suspect this great little restaurant will eventually fail because they don't make money while turning people away. The owner/chef seems like a great guy and terrific chef. Maybe he doesn't know the quality of his staff is poorly trained and not very good. Nonetheless, he's ultimately responsible for guest experience. I've left great reviews in the past while overlooking poor service. While I'm a fan of the food, I can't justify spending this much for bad experiences.

Peggy W.

Yelp
We joined our out of town friends for dinner here on Friday. Our server had been there for three weeks and he was great! We started with wings/fries... fabulous! Cooked perfectly. We devoured them. Let me tell you the boneless fried chicken, lobster, and two different pasta dishes were all excellent! I mean really good. We live in Sandy Springs/Buckhead area but will be making the drive just to eat here! Our server said they have fun wine nights too. Don't let the casual atmosphere put you off - it's yummy.

Richard P.

Yelp
The best, and possibly the only, softshell crab in town! James Chien, the chef, does well at anything he tries!
google avatar

Rob W.

Yelp
In town for business and always looking to support local. Read some very favorable reviews and decided to give it a try. Even before I got there, the boneless fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes in cream sauce was my first choice. When i got there, the two specials sounded amazing, so I asked the server, James (who is also the owner), for his recommendation. He said, "if you came here for the chicken, then you need to get the chicken." I started with a wedge salad. The blue cheese dressing was fantastic with big chunks of blue cheese. The boneless fried chicken and garlic mashed potatoes in cream sauce was amazing! The chicken was moist and full of flavor! If I lived in the Atlanta metro area, I would eat here on a weekly basis! If you have not tried this restaurant, you're missing out. Please make it a point to visit James and Eating Americana. You won't be disappointed!

Nomad C.

Yelp
Ate here recently and although the location is a bit skeptical and not something you'd picture when approaching a dine in restaurant. The food was exceptional. Pricing was a bit more on the gourmet side with proper portioning and decent timing from order to table service. Although this may have to do with me being one of 2 other guests. I discovered the owner of this establishment is also the main chef. Going to the restroom your greeted with what seems to be the chefs history of working at high quality restaurants. Placing himself in the local paper a few times. The reports do not disappoint when you receive your food, taking a bite does place you in a five star restaurant setting. Overall the service was attentive & very family friendly. The location May very well throw you off however, if your looking for something different, this may be it.
google avatar

Dareal S.

Yelp
Great local restaurant that never disappoints. I've tried at least 80% of the dinner menu and haven't had one bad meal. My personal favorite is the fried shrimp plate and an extra side of macaroni and cheese.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is in the old Hog & Ale spot, between Bulgogi and Goodwill. Check their hours, as they close for 3 hours between Lunch and Dinner. It is also dark from the outside, so may appear closed when, in fact, good food awaits. I ran in to place a to-go lunch order. Did not have the appetite for a full meal, so I went with the Chicken/Andouille sub w/fries. While waiting, I stood at the bar, watched an excellent travelogue, and spoke with a very engaging man I suspect to be an owner. Delightful conversation, and now I want to dine in. They have a modest beer/wine selection - but very nice. The fries, pictured, are typical crinkle cut fare... but they were fried CORRECTLY - they were perfectly seasoned, and still crispy when I returned to my office. I want to go back just to drink a beer and eat more fries. I got my lunch 2 hours ago... the fries are still crispy. How is that possible? The Sub was efficiently constructed. Chicken breast, freshly grilled; half a link of sausage, freshly grilled; lettuce, 2 tomato slices, nice aioli, grilled hoagie roll. I actually cut the chicken breast in half, lengthwise, so it would fit on the roll, but I am glad they did not, because it kept the chicken juicy for the trip to my office. This was simply affordable, approachable good food prepared and presented with some thought and good intentions. I'll be back.uu

Yelp
Lunch! This was our first time at Eating Americana. The chef/owner James Chien greeted us as we entered his simple, clean, spacious sit-down restaurant with a bar counter. There was a "specials" menu at the front door showing his cream pie and cheesecake pie list, plus the lunch specials of fried oysters or soft shell crab poBoy subs or Plates. He also had a "Lent" menu of 3 items listed on the back wall chalkboard. 1) cornmeal crusted fish 2) salmon, mash, asparagus 3 ) something else. It just reminded me in a flashback, of Fridays in New Hampshire childhood, where we Catholics regularly had fried fish (usually a mess of fried "smelts") every Friday, and who you brought home on the bus to play with after school Friday had better understand that the only choice for dinner would always be FISH. My dh ordered the lunch portion of Seafood pasta in a cream Cajun sauce, he really enjoyed it, it was full of shrimp, real lobster chunks and scallops. I ordered the Oyster Plate with mash and a side order of fresh green beans. Orders came out in a reasonable time. My green beans were perfectly steamed, not overcooked, and dressed with garlic butter and cracked black pepper. My oysters were SUPERLATIVE light crisp coating and still juicy and succulent inside. The BEST oysters anyone has ever prepared for Me! If you love oysters you must give this place a Try! I dredged my mashed red garlic potatoes through my dh Cajun cream sauce, oh-so-good! The site is in a strip mall, do not let this hold you back. It is neat and clean and spacious.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! Food is amazing and the staff is super friendly. I have recommended this place to several friends. The fried chicken is probably the BEST I've ever had! Abundant portions! There was a pasta special I had that was amazing and I hope they have it again.

Andy A.

Yelp
First time try this restaurant, foods and service very good. We tried the seafood omelette and eggs Benedict both were delicious. We are looking forward for dinner menus soon.
google avatar

Wally L.

Yelp
Food was amazing!!! We had the fried chicken, seafood pasta, and the loaded Mac and cheese.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
A word about that rating. I would probably give them a 3.5, but Yelp forces your # of stars to be a whole #, so I rounded down to correct for the numerous 5 star reviews that are dominant here. 3 stars seems harsh, but 4 stars (or 5) seems unwarranted. We walked in & were greeted by a very dark environment. Clearly the decorator needs to befriend a gay. Definitely NOT a 5 star environment. I thought, "well, maybe the food is amazing," but, nope. I mean, the food was fine, but definitely not 5 star, to me anyhow. I had a chicken/andouille hoagie; my husband got meatloaf. Both were fine. Also, a note about the service, it was fine. The order was accurate & the food came out quickly. All of these are good, but it is what I would expect from any restaurant.

Scott L.

Yelp
Don't let the "shopping center" locale detour you. Chef James is amazing. The menu choices exemplify the Americana theme and prove that even seemly basic fried chicken or Mac n cheese can wow you. The shrimp & grits are my favorite as well as the seafood pasta.
google avatar

Candis D.

Yelp
Yes, yes, yes! The fried chicken dinner is everything! I am a southern girl but I've never been big on fried chicken but this meal absolutely hit the spot. The chicken was seasoned perfectly! Even the bone in breast were tender and juicy. My chicken was still piping hot when I got back home. My husband and I ate in silence, savoring every bite and afterwards he said "that was some good chicken!" The family meal fed my husband, myself and our 2 kiddos and we still have a little of the sides and a breast and wing left. The mac and cheese and green beans were the perfect accompaniment to the chicken. You also get 4 rolls and the price absolutely can't be beat. I can definitely see myself ordering the family meal a couple of times a month.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is outstanding. The fried chicken is 2 die 4. The brunch steak melts in your mouth like butter. The wait service is excellent. Their is no ambience as such (though it is spotlessly clean) but who needs atmosphere when the dishes are this well prepared.
google avatar

Nathaniel J.

Yelp
Posting the first review of this place. I am at the soft opening so cannot say to much but I got the cajun wings along with the honey-chipotle wings and they were done great. The breading was done very well. I love the fact that there is a diverse menu here. My friends got the salmon and the ribs and both loved what they had! More photos coming soon! There are changes coming soon so ill post more on the overall atmosphere, service and menu once its all set in stone.

Piper-lee S.

Yelp
The staff is so friendly! And the food is amazing, they are attentive and fast- even on a Sunday at noon! We ordered the Brioche French toast, the special of chicken and waffles with honey chipotle sauce, mimosas, breakfast potatoes, and bacon. Everything was delicious and fresh!! Check out this place and support local business today!!

Wanca P.

Yelp
I just bought a five piece dinner and paid $21 the chicken was small look like it was on crack the portions were small I thought it could at least feed two people but it could only feed one overpriced not worth the money definitely don't recommend and I definitely will not go back

Yelp
I had lunch today with a guest at Eating Americana; my 3rd visit and it did not disappoint. James was our server-said it was his 4th day but you never would have known it. He did a GREAT job and the food was also Excellent. James (the owner) is doing everything right IMO.

Yelp
If you live in the area and are going to spend your money on dining during the pandemic, please do it here. Otherwise you may not have an opportunity. I can only imagine the financial stress a place like this must be under opening in March 2020. Despite this, the chef/owner is cutting no corners on portion size, or quality of ingredients. My wife and I had lunch here and were blown away by freshness and flavor of the food. I had the fried shrimp plate and my wife had the boneless fried chicken. Both dishes were excellent. High quality ingredients and perfectly seasoned. It took us a while to arrive at our entree decisions despite the small'ish sized menu (not a bad thing - but Cheesecake Factory this place is not). Everything on the menu sounds delicious. Peanut butter pie for dessert was superb. Light and not overly sweet. This place is an absolute gem. We will be back to do our part to ensure Eating Americana survives. It is an order of magnitude better than the local corporate options. One of the best in the area overall.
google avatar

Yelp
We also came here based on all the 5 star reviews. They were well deserved. The fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans were all delicious! Plan to become regulars and try out all of the other things on the menu.
