We went there and were happy with the quantity and the quality of most of the dishes, and the one dish that was underwhelming the comped it off the bill as soon as we voiced our concerns. One of the better heritage chinese eateries in Kolkata. Amazing behaviour and spacious interiors with quick and tasty food. Will go again.

If you are going for the cultural aspect, eating out at the oldest chinese restaurant in Calcutta then you will have a better experience as compared to if you are going for the food. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad, it's plain and simple, pork preparations were good. Travel is sorted, you have to take metro toll Chandni chowk and from there it's a 5 minute walk from one of the exits ( I don't exactly recall which exit)

The legendary non-vegetarian chimney soup here never fails to disappoint, as it has enough chicken, egg and prawns. I won’t speak of the rest of the items, because all are equally good. So good, that I can’t wait to dig in, as soon as they are on the table. But the show stopper is definitely the chimney soup. I am not a vegetarian by choice, but I have tried the vegetarian chimney soup here multiple times (with my dead father, my sister & my friends) and I can vouch that it is as good as the non vegetarian version. Now, the good thing about this place - nothing has changed. Because, somethings should never change. Just one server serving lip smacking good food, a family run kitchen, no music, no fine cutlery. Just pure culinary excellence. N.B. In case, you don’t know, this historic institution opened around the same time as Nanking (India’s first Chinese restaurant, opened in 1924) and is still in operation, which makes it the oldest Chinese restaurant of India, in operation. Now, you can say that’s fine but why is this place significant in India’s culinary history? It’s because, this place was one of the very first restaurants in India, which was instrumental in adapting the authentic Chinese cuisine to Indian taste buds. Voila, Indo-Chinese Cuisine, was born.

The exterior of Eau Chew building is pretty gloomy, however the interior is surprisingly clean and great for dining with any size group. I ordered the pork in black bean sauce, pork Manchurian, and pork fried rice; everything was quite tasty, though the portions were just okay, not massive. They have a wide range of menu, and the location is super convenient near the metro station. Overall, a decent place to visit, but check the restaurant timing on google before visiting.

An absolute gem in Kolkata’s Chinese food scene! Eau Chew delivered on every front. Food (5/5): The flavors were rich and distinct, with every bite feeling thoughtfully prepared. Highly recommend the Chimney Soup, Josephine Noodles, Roasted Chilli Pork, and Josephine Rice. The dish portions were generous and packed with authentic Indo-Chinese flavors. Service (5/5): Quick and courteous, with zero wait time. The staff knew their menu well and were helpful in suggesting dishes. Atmosphere (5/5): Simple, no-fuss setup with an old-school charm. The focus is clearly on the food—and rightly so. Final Verdict: A classic, must-try spot for those who love old-school Chinese cuisine. Highly Recommended.

Heard a lot about this place for the famous chimney soup, but couldn't try it out this time. We had fried chilli chicken which was delicious and tossed with caramelized onions and green chillies highly recommended. Then we had mixed hakka noodles which were a bit oily and sweet and sour chicken which was really good when mixed with fish sauce.

It is one of those places which is incesibly hard to recognize from outside, centuary old building no one nearby.. u are unsure if its the right place, but once u step foot into door, new would opens up. Great ambience, spacious hallroom, clean tables with aquariums and chinese lanterns adds a quiet charm to the place. We ordered roast pork and rice noodles, at first glance the prices will seem too much but half plate of each item is easily enough for two people. Taste was very nice , just as we had experienced in Tung Nam and other more popular names. No added taxes or GSTs, if you're satisfied you can add small tip to the waiters. And theres also a open parking space outside, most likely for the resturant only.

Food is authentic Chinese. Options are less. Ambience is typically local. The price is moderate. And quantity is also good ..... every item is served for two people.
