Eaves - Review - Loop - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Anyone planning on a night with Puccini at the Civic Opera House in the Loop can now pregame with a dinner at Eaves, the venue’s built-in Southern European restaurant. Eaves’ menu includes smoked tuna conserva, porchetta sandwiches, pastas, and different types of arrosticini with lamb, chicken, or shrimp. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE" - John Ringor

Chicago Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know, July 2025 | Eater Chicago

"Lyric Opera of Chicago and Toasted Hospitality have announced that Eaves, a Southern European-style bar and bistro at the historic Lyric Opera House, will open the week of August 11. Theatregoers will be able to grab a drink or bite inside the Pederson Room, a reimagined space with nods to cafes and libraries of 1920s–30s Southern France and Italy; the food menu features pastas, arrosticini skewers, sandwiches, and salads, while the beverage program focuses on riffs of classic cocktails and Old World wines." - Jeffy Mai

What a great place to get away from it all. The atmosphere and mood is inviting and the food was amazing. My husband and members of the family drove in from Detroit and had a chance to experience food in a way that made you feel the flavors when tasting the food. I myself it reminded me of a movie where you could taste the passion that was put into creating this menu. I highly recommend Eaves Chicago and while you are there reach out to Executive Chef Amanda. You will be amazed when talking to her and understand what it took to create the menu that compliments the opera house and its history.

Eaves delivers a dining experience unlike any other—where extraordinary cuisine and impeccable service come together to delight your senses. Each dish, crafted with artistry and passion by Chef Amanda McLemore, is more than a meal; it’s a story on a plate. Our server went above and beyond, taking the time to share the inspiration and culinary vision behind every creation, allowing us to savor not only the flavors but also the journey that brought them to life. The combination of creativity, care, and warmth made the evening truly unforgettable. Can't wait to visit again. Until then, I'm spreading the word. Thank you Chef Amanda and Eaves staff.

Came here for dinner on a Monday night. It was quiet and quaint. The food was tasty and the service was kind and attentive. We shared: - peach summer salad - Wagyu skewer - pea rigatoni - lemon ricotta cookie All were delightful. The pasta was cooked al dente. The peach salad was light and sweet. The cookie was decadent and light at the same time!

So far, I’ve only had a cocktail but it was great! I’m excited about the location, because I work at the opera house.

The server was extremely rude and the food was subpar for the price. Do yourself a favor and find any other restaurant or bar and you're guaranteed to have a better experience. Will not be returning nor recommending this spot to anyone.

I made a reservation for three (3) for after the opera matinee. I confirmed it twice, once in person. When we arrived, they couldn’t find the reservation, the man at the door was rude suggesting that I was lying. They showed three (3) of us to a tiny, round table where we couldn’t possibly have dinner. He even suggested that we go somewhere else!!! We went across the street to 1North and had a lovely dinner and were treated like good customers. Eave is a HUGE BUST and doesn’t deserve to be in business. TERRIBLE!!!!

Yelp
Stopped in for dessert. We ordered 2 sundaes for 3 people. Big mistake. They were soo soo tiny and expensive. It was insulting. Each sundae was a very small single scoop, some whipped cream and a cherry.

Yelp
I just got served a pile of cat food. We ordered the tuna appetizer and it was canned tuna decorated with a few flower petals and a sprinkle of herbs. It literally looked like a pile of cat food. Cocktails were good though

Yelp
Bad Food; Bad Service. Sunday Opera Lunch. Ordered Prime Rib Sandwich, NO giardinare. Plate presented with sliced beef, NO cheese, but WITH giadinare. Waiter removed plate as requested. However, the same plate AND sandwich was returned--minus the giadinare. The spices permeated the entire sandwich. No apology offered for the kitchen or wait-staff deception. Bill was deleted -- my experience was not.

Yelp
Their website, yelp, and when I called said they're open and I'm standing in front of a closed Eaves. That's annoying.

Yelp
Work in the building, have been for lunch twice so far. First time, I had the hummus appetizer and the bruschetta salad - would not recommend the bruschetta, way too acidic and way too many tomatoes for the amount of the other ingredients. Second time, I had the italian beef sandwich, which was decent, though the bread seemed a bit stale or dry to me. Overall, beautiful ambiance, great location (for me) and very nice staff. If they can get their lunch menu sorted out, maybe with some real entree salads, or by adding some of the pasta and meat dishes available in the evening, I'd be more likely to keep coming back.
