The Isle of Skye: Breathtaking Views and MICHELIN-Star Seafood

"Helmed by Calum Montgomery (who you may recognise from Great British Menu), this former 16th-century hunting lodge has been turned into an acclaimed restaurant with a seasonal tasting menu that changes every four to six weeks; ingredients and suppliers are central to the ethos, so you can enjoy food naturally tied to the land around you." - Sarah Neal

"Reputedly the oldest inn on the Isle of Skye, this characterful lodge dates back to 1543 – although it's had a subtle modernisation since then. The chef is a Skye native and as such likes to show off the best of island and Highland produce – as well as local crockery – across his imaginative multi-course tasting menu, where each dish is beautifully presented and carefully constructed. If you're looking to explore the local area, stay overnight in one of the bedrooms, which have a subtle Scottish theme." - Michelin Inspector

"Less a hotel than a restaurant with rooms, Edinbane Lodge makes its home on the Isle of Skye, in a hunting lodge that dates back to 1543. That’s not to say the rooms are unremarkable — in fact the six of them combine local tweeds and tartans and a full complement of tasteful modern comforts, to great effect. But the main reasons to venture this deep into Skye are the landscapes, the seascapes, and of course the restaurant, which serves a menu of painstakingly locally sourced fare, derived from traditional recipes and preparations." - Tablet Hotels

Okay I gave the restaurant 4 stars but actually about 3.5. Food: in general good, great start with the three appetizers, great presentation, fascinating taste. The beef tartare is the best I’ve had, the oyster is almost refreshing! Those definitely opened my appetite. But then the mains all feel very mediocre. The sauce for the oyster was rich, lobster was underwhelming, steak dish was a little over seasoned. Then 3 dessert to wrap up, at this point I feel like I’m gonna be in a sugar coma. Service/Setting: Nothing special, nothing outstanding. I was not happy they put my raincoat and my partner’s raincoats in one hanger, are you really just that short of hangers? Raincoats are both wet! And oh man this meal was 2.5hrs long my butt was sore from sitting so long and feels like a food marathon. £150 per person which I doubt if this is really worthy base on the food and service. With this price I don’t expect perfection but definitely better than this. Overall 3.5/5

From the very first moment we arrived, we felt incredibly welcome – almost like coming home. The warm atmosphere, the passion for exceptional food, and the attention to every little detail made the evening truly special. You can feel that everyone at Edinbane Lodge shares the same philosophy and deep love for what they do. It was an absolute pleasure to meet Calum Montgomery in person and to experience his culinary vision through The Taste of Skye menu. Each course told a story of the island – rooted in local produce, inspired by nature, and beautifully presented. Every dish was both creative and honest, a true reflection of Skye’s land and sea. Simply outstanding! One of the absolute highlights of the evening was a dessert unlike anything we had experienced before – Falasgair, delicately sprayed with the smokiest whisky of the island, nostalgically presented from a vintage perfume bottle. The combination was surprising, elegant, and deeply harmonious – a flavour so unique it’s almost impossible to describe. Moments like this make dining at Edinbane Lodge one of a kind. The service team deserves the highest praise as well – professional, passionate, and genuinely kind. Their knowledge, care, and perfect timing made the experience seamless from start to finish. Edinbane Lodge isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a place that tells the story of Skye through flavour, craftsmanship, and heart. An unforgettable evening and a true must-visit when exploring the Isle of Skye!

We went to the lodge for their restaurant for a nice meal during our stay in Skye. It was very impressive how well we ate thinking how remote, in comparison, this location is to "civilization". An incredible dining experience and one of the highlights of our trip to Scotland. Everything from the moment you walk in the door to the moment you leave is an example of good service. Hosts were great, servers were great, and interactions with other staff were great. Every single person we interacted with was a delight. Thankfully, the food matched the service also. We had the current set menu, I ended up ordering the lobster starter and my wife the scallop dish. I had read that these scallops were one of the chef's signature dishes, and it shows. They were incredible. Likely the best scallops I have had, ever. Mains were also great. I had venison two-ways, which had lots of flavors and great contrasts in the dish itself. A delight to try. For dessert I ordered the chocolate choice, and while it was excellent, it wasn't as much a star of the night as the starters and mains were. Still closed out the meal very well. A great special night in Skye. Highly recommended for any and all special occasions.

Completely blown away by this fine dining experience, just exceptional. Enjoyed the tasting menu for a birthday celebration. From the first moment we arrived and were greeted by staff to the moment we left the whole experience was simply outstanding. The service from all members of staff was flawless, they really made us feel special and took the time to explain every details of each course that was served to us. I really don’t have words to describe the food, it was beyond outstanding which doesn’t even come close to doing it justice. From the presentation and taste to the connection with Skye was really something very very special. Every single course was a mouth watering adventure of which we have never experienced before, it was simply delicious and stunning. It is no exaggeration to say that Calum is a culinary genius. The food he presented is obviously borne from a true love of Skye ingredients but taken to a level of which is world class. I cannot stress enough the exceptional standard of food which Calum is producing. As it was a birthday celebration we were also presented with a complimentary glass of champagne, birthday card from the team and a special birthday treat at the end of the meal. This was a lovely, thoughtful touch which just displays the exceptional service provided to guests. This place is a must visit if you are on Skye. It is quite simply outstanding and the finest restaurant we have ever visited. A huge thank you to Calum and the whole team for making my birthday one which I will never forget. We will definitely be back.

We loved our dinner and stay at Edinbane Lodge. A real luxury experience in a romantic setting. Beautifully furnished room with a super-comfy Super-King bed and a riverside patio for relaxing in the evening. We had the tasting menu which was simply superb. One of the best meals we've had anywhere and truly deserving of a Michelin Star.

This review is for the restaurant only. The five course tasting menu was exquisite. Each dish felt like there were little Scottish treasures hidden in each one. Every course was a wonderful surprise. You will NOT leave hungry so skip lunch on the day of your reservation.

Google
This was a delicious and unique tasting menu for us out-of-towners. It truly was “A taste of Skye.” We enjoyed the diversity and freshness of each dish, and at the end we were fully satiated. We also really appreciated that they source local ingredients, and tell you where everything is from. It was also a very clean and comfortable environment inside the restaurant, not uptight or stuffy. Chef was kind and great to meet. We are very happy we made this reservation!

Yelp
We made dinner reservations months in advance for a special meal. The service and food was superb. Would come back here again if we are ever in the area!

Yelp
Simply put, this is a Michelin level restaurant for good reason. It doesn't get much better than this for an exquisite and first class event. Location is beautiful, service excellent and the food of the tasting menu, amazing! Make your reservations as early as possible, the place fills up very quickly.

Yelp
It's taken a while for me to get around to writing this review but that is not a reflection of our experience. Perhaps the most memorable stay on our trip to Scotland, the Edinbane is superbly lovely. John and his staff were the most gracious and enjoyable hosts. Raul mixed up the most divine gin drinks and the food was hands above every other meal we had on the trip (and we did eat at other Michelin star restaurants). What made the stay memorable was that the atmosphere was sophisticated while the experience was unpretentious. Don't miss your opportunity to stay at this gem!

Yelp
Edinbane lodge has the perfect situation, and from the moment the doors are opened for you and your temperature is taken it's clear that every possible precaution has been taken to ensure everyone's safety. This award winning restaurant with rooms sits perfectly at the top of Skye's hospitality sector and has an intimate warm relaxed vibe (even with social distancing being at the forefront of service) Our tasting journey using the best produce of Skye & the highlands was exceptional from start to finish - the 8 courses offering incredible taste combinations and a true delight, the accompanying wine flight pairs perfectly with the dishes. Edinbane lodge is a treat, the entire team have gone above and beyond the current hospitality guidance to keep its patrons and our community safe, truly the pinnacle of highland hospitality.
