The Best Restaurants in Monterey and Carmel | Eater SF

"Edwin’s takes the place of Affina, a longtime Mediterranean restaurant from chef Dexter Salazar. During the pandemic, Salazar was on the brink of retirement with plans to sell the restaurant, when his brothers and nephew stepped in. Now they’ve reopened as Edwin’s, a tribute to the family’s Filipino roots, and Salazar’s father, Edwin. Expect “Shanghai” lumpia rolls, Balinese chicken, and more Filipino flavors sprinkled throughout, with an extensive wine list, to boot." - Paolo Bicchieri

The 17 Best Restaurants In Carmel

"Think about the last couple hours of a wedding reception when the formalities are over and the lame guests have gone home. That’s the energy you’re hit with at Edwin’s Kaona, a family-run, Filipino-Indonesian restaurant. Every Thursday through Sunday, live bands perform next to a white grand piano, so prepare to clap along to songs like “Sweet Caroline” or “Despacito.” It feels like a high-end island restaurant, and the flavor-packed dishes add to the party feel and embrace local ingredients. You’ll see substantial rice, curry, and noodle plates and large entrées like the Pinoy bone-in fried pork chop. Start with the crispy island rolls served with purple yam mashed potatoes, and move on to their signature Balinese fried chicken smothered in herby gravy. " - allison green, clara hogan

My wife and I were visiting the area, and being a Filipino-American couple were excited to find a restaurant serving Filipino food! We ordered the lumpia and Kare Kare. We were very happy with the lumpia, they were smaller in size than what we are used to but the sauce was delicious and flavors were amazing! The Kare Kare on the other hand was milder in flavor compared to other Kare Kare that I have had in the past. However, the eggplant was cooked beautifully and my wife enjoyed the vegetables The service was excellent given that there was only one server helping out at least eight different tables. Finally, the bathroom was clean however it seemed to be a work in progress. Overall, I would still like to visit again and try some of their other dishes. Next time I’m in the area. And I do think that based off of what we’ve tasted so far, it is a good introduction to Filipino cuisine.

Fine dining Filipino restaurant. So proud of this place good atmosphere, good food, food food presentation, lots of drinks options. Nice place.

I haven't really been impressed with Filipino fusion until I have dined here. We ordered the Ahi Tuna ceviche for our appetizer, and Kare-kare and Balinese chicken for our entrees. Our meal was both beautiful and delicious. Edwins is extremely clever in hinting to tradional Filipino and South East Asian cuisine, yet creating something completely new and, I can't find a better word for it--original. We finished our meal with Halo-halo which was just delightful. It was not busy when we got there, so I can't really tell how the service is at peak hours but our experience was pleasant and exceeded our expectations. I am happy to have another reason to visit Carmel!

I was just looking for a quick bite to eat while I was in Carmel by the sea and Stumbled across this place. Not only was the staff accommodating and friendly, the food was outstanding! I had the prawns, and it was better than anything I imagined. I can’t wait to go back to try their seafood curry. I went in once before for drinks at night and it was a fun atmosphere with live music. Give this place a shot, you won’t regret it!

We went to Edwin’s for my best friends 20th Anniversary and surely the service we received that day was nothing but the best! Exceeding expectations! Mac’s hospitality was above and beyond! All the staff were amazing! The owner was so friendly with all the customers making sure everyone was tended to. The food was awesome, Mac surprised us with the bilao full of different delicacy! So yummy! The live music was a hit! We were feeling the vibe! Salute!

We had a Monterey Mackerel caught that morning! The presentation and flavor was incredible. We also had the fried chicken, which came with a fried egg; also fantastic. This is a family restaurant with amazing authentic flavor and impeccable service.

Google
Edwins is a laid back Indo-Hawaiian fusion restaurant that awesomely seated my family of 7 quickly. However, it seemed that there was only one person taking care of service for the whole restaurant - and only one person cooking. As a result, getting drinks and food took FOREVER. The food was good when it finally arrived, but it was not worth the wait. My order wasn't right and I couldn't eat it as a result (it was the only one messed up), but everyone else enjoyed theirs. Instead of trying to sell us on the "group lunch" I wish the server (the owner?) would've just said he was understaffed and there would be a tremendous wait. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.

Google
Such a fun place with live music on a Saturday night! Food was excellent! I only gave 4 star for food because they ran out of something I to really wanted to try.

Yelp
The food at Edwins is fantastic! We're so glad we stopped by for dinner on an early Friday evening and enjoyed the live music. - House-made Crispy Rolls: thinner rolls than I expected but still quite tasty. - Singapore Chili Prawns: phenomenal! I could've eaten several plates of this dish, if I were able to. The garlic rice was very flavorful, and the shrimp was so delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed this dish and will definitely visit again to enjoy it again.

Yelp
First impression of the owner? Nice ... after talking to him casually? hella' rude, judgmental, and disrespectful. All he wants is your money while providing inconsistent product and service. Would rate minus 0 stars if available.
google avatar

Yelp
Have some snack before hitting this place. It would take 1hr and 30 min, actually almost 2 hrs to get your main dish. Don't be hangry just enjoy live music with drink. And don't be mad even if you get food after the table who came after you. Be generous to be here unless you would ruin your precious time.

Yelp
Tbh it's not HORRIBLE. But this place is so severely overpriced and the food was mediocre, that I don't have any enticement to come back. the lumpia was very meh but so expensive. The "Balinese fried chicken" was also fine/okay but again just soooo pricey. Our food took soooo long to come out that we were starving. The service was slow and very inattentive for this price point. As someone who has had these cuisines previously, this place neither hits the authentic mark nor a creative/innovative take on these cultural dishes. This place reflects a $15-25 price point but for some reason think they fit in with $30-40+. Live music is a plus I guess...?

Yelp
Edwin's in Carmel by the Sea is a surprise find for Filipino food enthusiasts. Serving up traditional Filipino dishes with a fusion twist, this cozy restaurant is a must-visit. Jacob and the staff welcome guests with big smiles and warm hospitality, making you feel right at home. The recipes are passed down from generations, offering unique adaptations to please even the pickiest eater. At night the restaurant transforms into a lively hub of fun with live music and engaging conversations with patrons from all over the world. Whether you stop by for lunch, dinner, or happy hour, you're sure to have a memorable experience. Don't hesitate to give it a try!

Yelp
My wife is Filipina and always looking for good restaurants when we go on vacation. Edwin's didn't disappoint. Live music was fantastic while enjoying our Thursday dinner date. (The vibe felt like Saturday night.) Appetizers: Island Kawali - super tasty with a fresh homemade tomato salsa garnish. Ginger prawn (soup of the day) - freakin DELICIOUS! Three butterfly prawns presented in a tasty broth, heavy on the ginger. Entrees: Kare Kare - expensive compared to where we get it in the Bay Area, but done very well. My wife loved the bagoong. Singapore Chili Prawns - perfectly cooked butterfly prawns in a delicious creamy sauce. Presentation was great, the food portioned onto rustic wood cutting boards. Simple salad with a nice tart dressing and yummy fried rice as sides. Tip: don't let the 9pm posted closing time keep you away

Yelp
I was excited for this place since there's not a lot of Filipino/Indonesian food collabs, came on the Monday before Thanksgiving and was looking forward to trying all the dishes. When I called to ask about a reservation our server said that there was no wait and when we got there it wasn't too busy. Noticed it was 2 people/mostly only 1 person waiting on all the tables which was still a pretty good number of parties, including a bigger party of like 6 people. There is live music which is fun! The singer didn't know a lot of songs that people were recommending but the vibe was chill and everyone was a good sport about it which was nice. I was disappointed in the food, the portions are small and it took a really long time to get our order. I saw that there was only one cook and it took about 45ish minutes to get the appetizers and then additional 30-40 mins to get our actual dinner. I think it was just an off night but definitely something to keep an eye on.

Yelp
Love the whole vibe here. The welcoming staff and the atmosphere. Music sets the mood for a perfect dinner. Came here with a group friends and tried a little bit of everything. Food was excellent and our server Jason was awesome and tentative throughout. Definitely will return, just make sure you have reservations because it gets really crowded. You have to try the Filipino dishes, Kare-Kare and the Turon with ice cream. Highly recommended

Yelp
A wonderful Friday night dinner stop for a birthday event. My friends opted for a bottle of the Noble Wines Sauvignon Blanc at $50 a bottles versus $15/glass. I had the Kare Kare plate featuring three good sizes of Oxtail in coconut cream sauce with garlic fried rice and mixed sautéed vegetables. The service was excellent and attentive. One of my guests asked for an off the menu (secret item aka Chicken Adobo) and they were able to accommodate her. We arrive for a later dinner reservation so that we could hang out for the live music after dinner. It did not disappoint. Reija was incredible with her vocals and piano skills. She was also energetic and wanted to dance too. Edwin's is a must stop dining opportunity in Carmel.

Yelp
Def a place you could miss since it's not on the main road, but that's also good since it won't be too crowded. One of a kind in the area too since it's a fusion place between Filipino and Indonesian food. Don't go in expecting your Mom and Dad's cooking, go into this place expecting your Mom and Dad's cooking but with presentation in mind. Because the way they plate their food is honestly an art form. We had ordered the Lumpia Shanghai that comes paired with fried minced garlic and green onions with a drizzle of a chipotle sauce which was our favorite. They also pair that sauce with the Roti which honestly looked like a small dish, but the layers of the Roti will surprise you. For main entrees, I wanted to grab the Island Kawali, but since they just opened at 12:30pm. They didn't have any ready for serving. Which doesn't make sense to me. So I ended up grabbing the Fried Chicken which also didn't disappoint as it was served with a nice salad, shrimp chips, long grain garlic rice and the main star Fried Chicken. Honestly would get again. I also appreciate the server who gave us the extra sauce and even showed us what it was so we could find it later.

Yelp
Oh wow! Food was amazing. Chicken adobo, island kawali, Shanghai lumpia - topped off w/ a bottle of Rose. Great service, music, great vibes! Fun & friendly crew! We met up w/ some family - Cheryl Rositano, and her smile and spirit definitely lights up the restaurant. . We'll be back for the live music on a Sat. night and the grinds! The area is pretty busy. There's street parking as well as parking lots in the area. Great to walk around.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place but their were a few things that didn't do it for me. Getting the good out of the way. The ambiance is nice. They have live music and it is located in downtown Carmel. Parking can be an issue depending on day of the week so keep that in mind. Food is a hit or miss. Some of the plates were delicious and unique. Service is also decent. Now, the bad is that some plates are good and others aren't. The rice, in my opinion, wasn't that great - very bland for it being fried rice. Rice comes with every plate unless it ain't pasta. My friends salmon wasn't as special as the price makes it out to be, kind of dry. Service is meh. Tried to call ahead to modify reservation and no answer. Called multiple times and cancellation fee is $10 per person on Open Table which was stressful. Beer selection is small. Appetizers feed one or two persons MAX! No desert menu when I rarely ask for dessert and they only had one deep friend banana option - turon. Ultimately, would I come again? Probably not.

Yelp
Right when you walk in you'll feel the cozy and relaxed vibe. We visited on a Monday night and had the salmon and fried chicken Balinese. Our food was so flavorful we came back again on a Wednesday night and got more of everything with the Island basket. Our island basket included kare kare, salmon, Balinese fried chicken, kawali, lumpia Shanghai, veggie lumpia, shrimp and scallops, veggies, and basmati rice. For a party of two we had more than enough and ended up having left overs. It's great for sharing and gives you a bit of almost everything. Chef Dexter, Jacob and the rest of the staff are great hosts adding to the warm and coziness. Great live music both nights. A must visit destination at Carmel by the Sea!

Yelp
Wife ( FIlipina) and i had high hopes for this place. Was very disappointed in the food.... appetizers that we ordered Crispy rolls? pretty much lumpia- 5/10- came with some random sandwich spread sauce. no vinegar or sweet and sour sauce steamed clams- 1/10 wasnt even a white wine/ garlic seduction.... too much butter, too salty ahi ceviche- 3/10 texture of the actual ceviche seemed off. like too over cook. PS* i've worked in a seafood restaurant for 6 years so i had high expectations of the seafood** Also we waited 40 minutes for our entreees and 15-20 minutes for our check... For entrees had the fried chicken with "garlic fried rice"... chicken way too dry. and the rice wasn't even fried... it was steamed... server tried saying that the rice had little spec of garlic but like i said. it was steamed.... not worth $39..... this plate should be no more than $20... wife had the prawns pasta: 5/10. Food is definitely overpriced...

Yelp
Filipino fusion food spot located in downtown Carmel. The Kamayan Platter looks show-stopping - it's recommended to call ahead and order this. Pinot Pork Chop ($30) - Crispy, flavorful, and the sauce on top was great. Javanese Prawn Pasta ($38) - Amazing creamy, coconutty, and sweet. Giant prawns on top. A delicious, VERY rich dish. Kare Kare ($42) - 3 pieces of oxtail in peanut sauce, topped with parmesan cheese (that flavor combination was a bit strange). Vegetable were nicely seasoned and the garlic rice was flavorful. Not sure how authentic it was. A bit on the pricier side given the portions but I guess you pay for the unique presentation and creative menu. Very friendly staff! They had live music for Christmas Eve :)
google avatar

Neen M.

Yelp
Awesome location & very friendly staff and love that they have fun live music for entertainment and a homey vibe. This place is always very busy and lively so it's a fun place to dine. I've come here twice and loved the food better the first time I came but will definitely give another try. First time around food was very flavorful, fresh, tasty and presented beautifully. Second time around didn't leave feeling that way but will try again because I do like the vibe and staff a lot. Not a fan of the way food presented on the wooden boards as I prefer to have my food plated on an actual dish.

Yelp
I came back here for my second time last week and amazed me again with how delicious the food is. The staff is super welcoming and friendly

Kyle N.

Yelp
Thought this would be a nice place for a 6 year anniversary... It was such a bad decision the second we walked in. Should have left right away. First of all we had a 5:30 reservation. When we arrived at 5:25 the guy working (maybe the owner) told us the kitchen wouldn't be ready for 15-20 minutes. However there was a table of 4 sitting already with a pile of food in front of them. Above them they had the football game on the tv (which I loved, being a football fan, however the volume was way too loud for a "nice" restaurant). Took at least 5-10 minutes to even be greeted at the table for water and drinks. Ordered water and wine. 5 minutes later water came, took another 5-10 to get wine. I was ready to walk out before the wine came. Once drinks came the music started. Uncomfortably loud music with too much bass in the speakers. With the loud music and the football volume full blast, we couldn't hear each other talk. After the server/owner finally came and talked to us we decided to just order a few apps and get the heck out. Shouldn't even have ordered those. The crispy spring rolls were very subpar. Ahi Ceviche was more like a tomato ceviche with 3-4 of tuna. Looked like Albacore tuna not Ahi as well. Clams were decent but only like 8-10 clams and not enough bread served for dipping. I wouldn't recommend this place. If you want good Asian food just stick to Tommy's Wok

Yelp
Walking through Carmel by the Sea, we were interested to try Edwins, as this has to be the only Filipino fusion restaurant in the area. Loved the vibe of the modern rustic feel. Came in for lunch without reservations and were seated immediately. Service was super friendly and ended up talking to the co-owner. He was explaining that they had changed the concept of the restaurant to Filipino fusion as an homage to the chef and co-owners late father, Edwin. You can tell a lot of love went into the menu and food. We ordered the Apple & Arugula salad $14. Super fresh and light, with fresh apples, roasted walnuts, arugula and a tasty vinaigrette. 5/5 Ed's Clam Chowder $19 Fantastic!! Made fresh to order with fresh clams, potato, carrot and celery in a creamy broth with garlic bread. So much love was put into this chowder. 5/5 Island Kawali $30 The marinated pork belly was incredible. Super flavorful! The Indo fried rice was delicious. Everything on the plate paired really nicely. 5/5

Yelp
This is an amazing venue located in Carmel with live music on the weekends. A very inviting atmosphere is filled with music, singing and even dancing as people gather around the bar. The food was delicious and the service was great. Very friendly and personable staff. Small and quaint and worth a visit.
google avatar

Florlina A.

Yelp
We had lunch there last Sunday. I really wanted to like this place. The service was subpar. There was no fault to the workers who were there. They were friendly and helpful, but grossly understaffed. They did their best. There were only two people working. One person was the host, server, and cook. The other was the bus boy. The food took a while to get to our table. The food was ok. The broth for the Manila clams was too salty. The ginger soup was flavorful and had a nice light broth. The pinoy ceaser salad was nothing special. The island kawali dish was tasty. The pork could have been fried longer to be more crisp. Owner-- please provide more staff at lunch and set your team up for success.

Yelp
Can one restaurant make you want to move across the country to a seemingly inhospitable and ungodly expensive place? Yes. It can. We made reservations here because I just wanted some Filipino food. We walked around Carmel a bit before we got there. (Cool place) we checked the menu and Angela saw pork belly and I knew we were going. (Though it was a bit dry, would've loved some vinegar/chili pepper mix). Bartender was awesome. My chicken awesome. The lumpia really good. The atmosphere, the people, the music. Ten out of five stars. Go. Have fun. Enjoy the moment.

Yelp
My mom kept insisting that we come here for dinner because her friend told her they serve Filipino food. Filipino food in Carmel?! Yeah, we were surprised too and excited to try it. The service was terrible. Our food took so long to come and they had forgotten two of our appetizers. By the time our appetizers came out, we finished our entrees and had it boxed to go instead. Their Filipino food wasn't 100% hella Filipino. There was a modern/fusion twist to each meal, which is what makes it thrive in this community in Carmel, but don't expect to eat greasy, comfort Filipino food, if you know what I mean. Small portions, expensive dishes. Likely will not come back when we are in the area and will opt to try a different restaurant. (This review is long overdue. When we came, I was pregnant and hangry. Unfortunately, it did not satisfy my cravings for Filipino food.)

Barbara Z.

Yelp
Great food! I could eat here everyday. The shrimp dish is amazing! The noodles are great too. And I love their rice as well.

Meme C.

Yelp
I came here for my birthday this year, excited after seeing the restaurant during a trip to Carmel last year. I made a dinner reservation two weeks in advance, but when we arrived at our 7:30 PM reservation time, our table wasn't ready. The host mentioned that a table nearby was finishing up and should be available soon. We waited around 20 minutes, hungry and disappointed, but it was clear that no tables would be opening up anytime soon. Frustrated, we decided to leave. This experience ruined my birthday dinner. If the restaurant takes reservations, they should ensure a table is actually available when guests arrive. Additionally, the host didn't offer us a drink or any gesture of goodwill while we waited outside. I will not be returning. Very poor service.

Yelp
This amazing Singapore Crab dish was simply AMAZING!!!! I'm told that the sauce on the side is "ginisang taba ng talangka". Thank you for yet again for delicious pre-Xmas dinner and live music by Mooch!

Darwin L.

Yelp
The food came too late...Calibonara and clam chowder as complained by my wife is too salty. We didn't bother to finished the whole meal we ordered as the pricy food also kinda enervated the vibe we are hoping for.

Craig L.

Yelp
Amazing good. Friendly staff and good vibes. Food is very rich and delicious. Best chocolate cookie dessert I have ever tasted. Best Ox tail too. Dexter is so friendly and such a humble man. We wish him the best!

Yelp
Food 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Staff 5/5 NYE 2021 Such a gem! In the sea of upscale Mediterranean, cozy pub fare and mediocre sushi we stumbled across the treasure that is Edwin's. We were biding time on a sushi place nearby right off Ocean that offered patio dining but was very cramped and up to 1 hour wait. For some reason Edwin's didn't pop up in our yelp searches but I wish it had. The menu offerings in the front caught our eye: pan-asian flared short ribs, seafood, organic chicken and a spacious, bright, and oddly empty dining room with a bar and grand piano. Edwin's looks upscale, beach chic and prices were on par with many Carmel restaurants at around $10 for apps and $25-40 for entrees, so I was a little concerned schlepping our double stroller in. However, what made Edwin's truly shine (above the memorable Singapore chili prawns and heavenly creamy seafood curry pasta) was the hospitality. We were beckoned in, tired toddlers and all by the owner's mom, the sweetest lady ever, who treated us and our kids like family. She put us at ease and they easily spaced out a table to pull our stroller into. The restaurant is pretty spacious by Carmel standards and shortly after we were seated a couple more families came in, and by the time we left they were pretty busy. Service from every member of the staff was so friendly, fast and the food was absolutely delicious. Dishes and recipes were obviously assembled with pride and came with large, fresh portions of seafood and organic meats so it didn't hurt the wallet quite as much as it could've to pay fine dining prices for comfort food. Can't recommend this place enough, especially for families navigating dining options and those looking for a nice twist on some familiar Asian flavors.

Leeza D.

Yelp
Food was phenomenal. Very flavorful and kept the authenticity of dish. The Filipino and Singapore variety in the menu have amazing choices. We have to come back to try the rest. Service: Alessio was very attentive and very knowledgeable of the Filipino food considering he's Italian. The owner (Dexter) made the time to come speak to us to hear our opinion. He was a pleasant person to speak to. It's also nice to see him roll up his sleeves and work the kitchen. Tidbits: the restaurant is named after his father Edwin. Ambiance is nice and can definitely a great place for a romantic date night. The live music was a plus. I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back to try other dishes.

Yelp
The food is mind blowingly good! Fresh, exciting, delicious! Went for Mother's Day and ordered the chefs choice basket. Insanely good! Served 5 adults easily!

Yelp
We love Edwin's so much! We found Edwin's while strolling through Carmel, heading to the beach for a sunset, and we heard beautiful live music coming from this corner restaurant. We popped our head in and decided to grab a drink. We wound up missing sunset so we could listen to Bro perform (we later learned he performs there most weekends!) We've been back for dinner go to see the live music at Edwin's many times since. Great vibe and great food. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Such a fun place! Great food and wine, live music was amazing but what makes this place extra special is the owner. He loves what he does and it shows in his care for the patrons and staff. Just go, you'll have an absolute blast!

Yelp
Great food and awesome staff. Made a birthday dinner extra special - definitely went above and beyond. They have a katsu like chicken entree which really rocked my world. Generous portions on entrees - come hungry!

Buzz M.

Yelp
While walking through Carmel on Friday afternoon, we stuck our heads in to look at the menu. We wound up making a reservation for a specific table at 7:00PM the next night. When we arrived a few minutes early the next night a couple had just been seated at the table we had reserved. When the manager finally came out to help us, I told him about our reservation and he said, "sorry, but I can't very well ask them to give up their able, and as you can see, we are full. Would you like to wait for another table?". Are you f*king kidding me?? Won't be going back there!
google avatar

Crystal M.

Yelp
Edwins was soooo fun!!! I made reservations for a large group to another restaurant near by and to our surprise they wanted to seat our large group of 10 at different tables. I get that large groups aren't ideal but I made reservations with plenty of time. Thanking the universe for the way things work out because I happened to walk by Edwins. There was a large empty table that fit our group perfectly. Our server sat us right away, eate delicious food, and had a great time listening to live music by Bro! My friends still talk about that night. Thank you Edwins for being so flexible and making my birthday memorable!!

Yelp
Great food, great service, fun atmosphere. Overall very happy and would definitely come back. The Singapore Chile Prawns were phenomenal!

Yelp
This place has it going on!!!!!!! We started the evening with some Red wine accompanied by some excellent appetizers and live music by the one and only Johan Sotelo. By the end of the night the whole place was singing along too Sweet Caroline and Despasito. Everyone was having a blast. The wine was Excellent and the Appetizer's AWESOME!!!!! We had so much fun we forgot to order our food!!!! Just kidding!!!! We didn't try the main menu because we had so much fun interacting with the locals that we weren't hungry. I wanted to try there clam chowder so bad but I guess next time around Carmel!!!!! Good Vibes, Food, Music you can't go wrong here!!!!!!

Krizelle M.

Yelp
We originally made a reservation, but we had our dog with us so we ended up doing take out. We ordered lumpia for an appetizer, my bf got their cheeseburger, and I got their Balinese fried chicken. Everything was delicious & tasty! The owner was so nice and gave us free cake pops to go. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Sonia S.

Yelp
Food: ingredients were stale. Salad looked like it had been in the fridge for a while. The broccoli looked wilted. The roti parata was from a package. Bathroom was dirty and had not been cleaned since the night before. Service was very good.

Yelp
Two words: crazy delicious. Edwins Carmel is a gem and a highlight of our visit to Carmel. Not only was our dinner fantastic (and beautifully presented), but the restaurant made every diner feel so welcome. Prawns were INCREDIBLE -- succulent and bursting with flavor. Seafood was so fresh, but we also loved the way they cooked the pork, chicken, and oxtail. We ordered the basket for 6 and added a couple additional dishes. Live music, a corner location, and airy interior made this a lovely place to dine. This was a memorable meal. We look forward to coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
Ahi ceviche, shrimp, veggie spring rolls, roti, taro dip, wow, this was so good. The manager Neil (hope I'm spelling that right) served our group a tasting platter that blew us away...Their flavors are a true fusion of Filipino and southeast Asian food. Definitely try this place! Thank you chef!

Yelp
Went here with family on a Friday night. It was very loud because of a large party occurring at the same time. Our waiter was kind, and even got up to sing with the singer for the night. We got the lechón kawali that has a non traditional spicy sauce that one should be aware of if expecting traditional Filipino food. Also the menu had misprinted fries with the lechón, which we addressed with wait staff. Overall, a tasty and eclectic experience!

Yelp
What an amazing meal at Edwin's in Carmel! We ordered all the specials: prawn and ginger soup (no oxtail soup tonight), Luna's dumplings made with corn and chicken, Shanghai lumpia (like tiny cigars!), vegetable spring rolls, Island skirt steak (very tender!), steamed buns, Singapore-style whole crab (so flavorful!), pancit and fried rice. Oh my goodness! We were so stuffed! And then came dessert! Fantastic flavors, lively atmosphere, and warm hospitality from Dexter and the crew.

Yelp
Very good Filipino and Indonesian food somewhat adjusted to American tastes, and somewhat of a fusion between the two cuisines. The garlic rice was a little more like Indonesian nasi goreng than filipino garlic rice, for instance. Friendly proprietor. Avoid sticker shock by asking about prices on the specials.

Yelp
I am a 50/50 split on the restaurant, the atmosphere is very welcoming and seems like a local favorite. I am not 100% sold however , there were some good with the bad. The service: The service was out of this world. The waiter and maitre d' were on top of it. Let's just say during the whole visit my glass of water never became empty! Great work in this department. The Food: This is where I am not convinced, these are semi traditional Philippino dishes with a modern spin on it. I ordered the lechon kwali and it was probably the worst that I have ever had. The pork was sooooo tough and dry , this was definitely no worth $30 dollars , the kare kare was priced at $45 which i think is utterly insane especially for the small portion, the thing that I liked the least was the fact that their menu is so small . I know that they have a rotating menu but please make sure they are serving the item you see on their menus online because I wanted to try their fried chicken but it wasn't even an option. Overall: I think that this place is okay , it is definitely a place to go to where you can say "yeah I've been there before". I probably will not be coming back anytime soon , but I recommend it to anyone who wants to have the experience. The food is plated beautifully but the flavors and textures just do not cut it for me. Overall score 6/10

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. We made a reservation for 12:00 on Sunday on OpenTable and no one showed up until 12:30. There was only one person working in the restaurant. Poor guy was cook, waiter, and busboy. The place looked like it hadn't been cleaned up from Saturday night. We ordered three (fairly expensive) appentizers. They were good but very small. I was glad we we ordered appetizers because when we left, the other two tables in the restaurant had not yet received their main dishes. They came in before and about the same time as us. I suspect the restaurant makes it on the food and booze with music on Saturday night. They don't seem to care much about the lunch crowd. The menu concept is good, but I would not go there again. They are very badly managed.
