Egalitea Organic Cafe Opens in Boston’s Back Bay With Tea and More - Eater Boston

"Egalitea Organic Cafe (248 Newbury St., Boston) — stylized as ÉgaliTea Organic Café — debuted Saturday, July 27, opening the doors to reveal a menu of hot and iced teas, tea lattes, and even tea ice cream flavors. The cafe displays an array of loose-leaf teas, including green and white teas, oolong, black, pu’erh, and assorted blends. Egalitea also has a heavy focus on environmental consciousness, striving "to serve foods and drinks that maximize the balance among people, social equity, and the environment," according to its website. In addition to teas, Egalitea serves cafe fare, including yogurt bowls, chia bowls, acai bowls, and oatmeal, all of which come with a variety of toppings like nuts, granola, fruit, seeds, and edible flowers. The venue offers smoothies, bagels, and soups. Inside, the cafe features exposed brick, black banquettes with low tables, and bar-height seating along a wall adjacent to the counter. Egalitea operates seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m." - Dana Hatic

Egalitea Organic Cafe to Open in Back Bay - Eater Boston

"A cafe filled with tea, smoothies, and other cafe fare will make its way into Boston’s Back Bay this spring. Egalitea Organic Cafe (248 Newbury St.) plans to focus on healthy food with a side of environmental consciousness. 'We strive to serve foods and drinks that maximize the balance among people, social equity, and the environment,' the forthcoming cafe’s website reads. As the name suggests, Egalitea will feature tea — a long list of hot and iced options, plus tea lattes and tea ice cream in flavors like Earl Grey and jasmine. There will also be yogurt bowls, chia bowls, acai bowls, and oatmeal, with choices of toppings that include nuts, fruits, and granola. The cafe menu will also include bagels, soups, and smoothies. Ingredients will be organic and largely fair trade or kosher when possible, and Egalitea will use compostable and recyclable containers. When it opens, EgaliTea could operate from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week." - Dana Hatic

Great healthy options for a small bite and a great selection of organic teas! Sometimes the service is a bit slow, so don't come super hungry unless you're gonna grab baked goods which are ready to go. Haven't tried their organic smoothies yet, but it's an impressive list.

I...didn't enjoy my experience at EgaliTea. One star for ambiance/decoration, one star for...everything else. The good -- beautiful decoration, really fancy chairs, awesome patio seating. The not so good -- high prices, small portions, and watery tea. My acai bowl was $14 and smaller than the bowls I get in JP and downtown Boston...so Newbury has high rents, does it taste good? Not...really. The toppings were skimpy, the acai was watery (it was honestly more like acai soup), and there was a weird, oily sheen to the liquid. My tea basically tasted like iced water, drunk near someone wearing peach-scented perfume. And my partner's avocado toast was not much more impressive. Finally - I get with open cases and whatnot, a few flies are going to happen. I've seen them in GreCo, in Red White, in many other shops around Newbury. Still, there were like...6-8 in the fruit case among the yogurt toppings. And when we sat down, there was a massive centipede that skittered by...probably hunting those other bugs.

We got the jasmine tea, which tasted way over-steeped/too bitter. The teapot was cute, though, and it was a nice place to sit and rest on Newbury street. I appreciate that everything is organic and most of their products are made with Fairtrade ingredients.

It's a very cozy place to enjoy an organic freshly made tea. So far I've tried iced Jasmine tea it was delicious, pistachio smoothie was amazing, and green tea ice cream with fruit toppings amazingly delicious. Everything is made from scratch so everything is fresh. Interior is very cozy, you feel relaxed as soon as you walk in. Love this place will definitely be going there every time I'm around Boston.

They gave an okay selection but the prices are simply too high. I know how much tea costs, and I understand charging a premium, but this is okay quality tea at supreme quality prices. Additionally their staff does not seem to know a ton about tea. Definitely more of an organic Cafe than a tea store so bear that in mind.

I am a connoissuer of fine teas. I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this charming place on Newbury Street, they have many exotic flavors to basic green tea, its made fresh right in front of you so you get to see the classic way of making loose leaf tea. It is organic, natural and socially responsible sourcing. Service was friendly and excellent. On my next visit I plan to try there exotic baked goodies !!

Stopped in to find out that Wired Puppy was closed and instead stumbled upon ÉgaliTea next door! Such a beautiful cozy spot with wonderful service and friendly and welcoming staff. The interior design is so throughtful and my first tea purchase was excellent! Given that Tealuxe is closed, there are limited tea option in the area. Definitely going to be in the rotation for working and catch up with friends!

I'd you're serious about tea, you need to try EgaliTea. Huge selection, from the classics to experimental herbal blends. They brew the tea when you order, so you can sit on the cute chairs and stools and watch! It's a nice place to relax and people-watch.
