The Best Breakfast Sandwiches in the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"Adam Bresina whisks his eggs together with butter and cream, then steams them, creating an ethereal, soufflé-like patty. Go for the Breakfast in Bombay, loaded with chorizo and crunch chili oil; the vegetarian spinach-and-tomato Tuscany sandwich; or build your own. Egg on a Roll is located just inside 5th Avenue Market in the North Loop." - Joy Summers

Google
Husband and I have mixed feelings. I think this place is EGGCELENT for what it is, and he doesn't think it's 5-star. You could serve me dog poopy on a brioche bun and I'd like it tho 🤷 I got the Classic with Sausage, Cheddar, and their Signature Sauce (still no idea what this is) and added red onion. Perfect breakfast sandwich. Quick service inside the 5th Avenue Market. Husband made his own sando, and he said the Chorizo was the perfect blend of heat and flavor. I know he enjoyed it and made a huge mess eating it. But still not 5 stars? I don't know, man. Parking is tough, I fought a dentist for their spot at Loop Dental. But dentists are soft so I won.

Google
The sandwiches are fantastic and very tasty. I loved the creative options and the toasted brioche buns were amazing! However, the restaurant is located in a convenience store with no seating making for a subpar atmosphere. You have to walk down the road to find a bench to sit at and eat.

Google
Takeout their Chippy Denver and Breakfast in Bombay — both were absolutely delicious! The egg was incredibly soft and fluffy — perfectly cooked. Everything was well-seasoned, flavorful, and just hit the spot. I’ll definitely be back to try more.

Google
Cool gem inside the 5th Avenue Market. Get a sandwich with the sauce & you'll be all set. Great price for a delicious & soft sandwich. Perfect for breakfast that's not greasy.

Google
Finally got around to trying this hyped up breakfast sandwich Happy to report that Cry'nEggy was pretty tasty I could have personally used more spice but nothing that hot sauce couldn't fix Loived the brioche bun and all the fillings Will try another flavor sandwich next time * delivery review only

Google
10/10 would recommend! I had seen this place all over my social media, and I had to give it a try. The sandwich was made to order, so it was hot and fresh when I got it. My order was the Tuscany, and I was amazing. I love how customizable every menu item was. The flavor and the freshness won me over. Will definitely be back for a future brunch order.

Google
Saw the write-up in Racket MN decided to make the trek to the North Loop to try their lauded sandwiches. I usually avoid the North Loop, because I don’t like its pretentious vibes, but this spot is super down to earth and could easily exist in South Minneapolis. I’ve never seen a sandwich counter in a convenience store in Minnesota, and I love the East Coast energy it emulates. I ordered the Breakfast in Bombay without chorizo. It was scrumptious. Loved the buttery bun, flavorful chili oil, and fresh sprouts. The scrambled egg was so fluffy and was the perfect preparation choice for this sandwich. It’s definitely messy, so make sure to grab some napkins. I didn’t grab any, and I quickly regretted it. It’s fun to lean into the experience though. Also, there isn’t any seating in the store, and there aren’t many benches around, so plan on leaving the North Loop to eat it, unless you don’t mind searching for a quiet corner. My fiancé and I ended up walking a number of blocks and sitting on a random ledge, which worked for us. One suggestion I have is to add more default vegetarian options to the menu. The Breakfast in Bombay would benefit from some avocado or soy chorizo. Overall, great experience and will definitely be back!

Google
Don’t miss out on this great spot! Visiting from Miami and this place looked so good the pictures and reviews are very accurate. The guys are very welcoming and friendly. The Breakfast in Bombay is full of flavor, subtle first bite and the peppers at the bottom are so fresh they seep in slowly, all the ingredients tasted very fresh and crunchy. Even the gluten free bun was delicious, highly recommend this place!

Yelp
I tell everyone I know to come here. First off, I love the little grocery store it's in! They have some fun things that I don't see other places. Nice to browse while you wait. Secondly, these sandwiches are so so sos so so so delicious. They are very messy though so I'd recommend not eating while you sit in the car unless you have a lot of napkins or wet wipes lol. My boyfriend and I like to get sandwiches here and then eat them at backstory while getting coffee! The owners of this place are very kind and they remembered us on only our second visit! They seem super cool and I love to support them! I would really recommend this place to others. If you're thinking about it, GO.

Yelp
**Review for Egg on a Roll:** If you're searching for the ultimate breakfast sandwich, look no further than Egg on a Roll! As a breakfast sandwich aficionado, I can confidently say that this place serves the best one I've ever had. The sandwich I ordered was perfectly crafted - the eggs were fluffy, the bread was fresh and perfectly toasted, and the combination of flavors was absolutely divine. Each bite was a delightful experience, with all the ingredients working in perfect harmony. The only minor downside was that I ordered the spicy version, and it didn't quite pack the heat I was expecting. However, the overall quality and taste more than made up for it. Egg on a Roll has truly set a new standard for breakfast sandwiches. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Finally got around to trying out Egg on a Roll since I don't normally eat breakfast. They did a great job on the old bagel shop really leaning into the "bougie bodega" vibe. It's super clean with some basic snacks, groceries, and a pull-tab counter in the corner. Picked up a to-go order and the staff was super nice. Nice and quick with a couple folks behind me in line. No pictures of the sandwich, but it's enormous. While huge, it's surprisingly light and not something you'll immediately regret. Light, airy brioche bun was nicely toasted and the souflee eggs were bouncy but not overcooked. Nice punchy aioli. Probably one of my top breakfast sandwiches. The value is great for what you get.

Yelp
I tell you what, I've had some VERY delicious sandwiches here. It is in the back of 5th Avenue Market... yes, inside the market. Just go on inside that market and head to the back, you can't miss it. You order on a tablet, then linger in the market's grocery aisles, awkwardly examining the microwavable entrees and condiment jars until they let you know your order is ready. Or you can order online and just come grab it when it's ready! I should probably do it that way next time. These are egg sandwiches, that's what their whole thing is. Super good ingredients every time, with a number of sauces that give everything a nice tang. I like their chorizo, it's super flavorful. I wouldn't mind if they had some different cheese choices. They are open from 7:30 to 3:30 on Monday through Saturday. Those are the hours when you can come in and have very very yummy breakfast sandwiches that are affordable and have a great variety of combinations that are invariably awesome.

Yelp
MUST TRY. A go to that I always treat my visiting guests to! HIGHLY recommend pre-ordering online, especially if it's a Saturday, as they often get a line! You can customize your own sandwiches in a ton of ways! The topping choices are delicious and unique! The staff is so friendly. They stick to just making what they're good at (breakfast Sammies!) and I fully respect it! Don't get lost trying to find it - it's in the back of the 5th Ave Market on 5th Ave in North Loop! Not a lot of seating - plan on taking out, doing a Lil picnic, or sitting right outside the building on the ledges. If you want a cheaper option, do less customizing! Classic is still tasty, and they're filling!! My go to: Classic egg, brioche bun, cheddar cheese, bacon, roasted tomatoes, arugula, extra black pepper ($8)

Yelp
Good place for a fast & convenient breakfast when on the go. Affordable, made to order, you can customize their signature sandwiches or build your own. Next time I would ask to have them add salt and pepper to the egg, and to butter the brioche bun. The toasted bun was a bit dry which is weird for brioche and the egg needed salt. Got the Cry'n Eggy signature sandwich, but it was just a bit boring considering it was supposed to be spicy. Next time would add some more toppings or ask for extra cheese or sauce. Give it a try if you want an inexpensive egg sandwich.

Yelp
FOOD: Breakfast sandwiches were awesome!! We were recommended two flavors and they did not disappoint. They had really unique ingredients and flavors, which I really appreciated. I'm excited to go back again and try. SERVICE: Service was great! They workers were very nice and helpful in recommending sandwiches. I would say order in advanced online if you don't want to be standing in the convenience store for 5-7 minutes. AMBIANCE: This place is a to- go location, so there is no ambiance. It is inside a convenience store, so you can look around and shop while you wait. LOCATION/PARKING: Convenient location in north loop, and if you were to pick up your sandwich to go you can definitely just pull over on the road for a minute. Not a super busy area for parking.

Courtnie G.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place enough!!!! Their breakfast sandwiches are reasonable priced, and to DIE for! I would recommend ordering ahead on your phone if you can because they do get quite busy sometimes - and definitely sign up for their reward system!!!!

Yelp
I ordered The Forager sandwich for lunch, and it was delicious! Located right inside the 5th Ave Market, it's the perfect spot for an inexpensive, delicious and quick lunch. I was a little bummed to discover (via Toast Tab) they have no sides, but with it being inside 5th Ave. Market, it was super easy to quickly grab a bag of chips and drink to round out my lunch. Ordering via Toast Tab was also super easy. Overall, Egg on a Roll has good sandwiches and I'll definitely be back to try other flavors!

Yelp
A great experience at egg on a roll! Adam was incredible - a solopreneur who started the business. He was able to carry out a fun convo with us about his business while making our sandwiches. I went with a few work friends and we waited about 5-8 minutes for all of our sandwiches to be ready. Pro tip- order online to beat the line, especially on the weekends
google avatar

Yelp
Great quick and easy delicious breakfast sandwiches to go and a super friendly staff to boot, all at a reasonable price.

Yelp
Went to Egg On A Roll on a Saturday morning and had an overall good experience. We had two classic's with sausage (one without sauce and one without cheese). They had great flavor but the sausage was diced, I think a sausage patty would have tasted better and been less messy.

Yelp
Was looking for breakfast options to buy my coworkers and came across this gem! I bought 11 of the CRY'N EGGY breakfast sandwiches for my co-workers today 4-4-2024. 11 men, 11 different palettes, and all 11 had nothing but GREAT things to say about this breakfast sandwich. I had to sneak this picture of the last 3 before these got devoured. I'm glad I was able to get this picture so you can just marvel at the presentation. The prices ranges from $6.99 - 8.99 for a breakfast sandwich of this quality.... I can't believe how they are able to sell it for such a great price in Minneapolis. The CRY'N BABY are $8.99 a sandwich. Great price!! Already had several of my coworkers asking "where's this place at?" I will FOR SURE BE BACK!!

Yelp
My first Egg on a Roll of 2024! I have been thinking of these sandwiches since my last time here and was so excited to pop in today. I tried the Breakfast in Bombay sandwich - no substitutions. It was SO GOOD! The bun is toasted nicely, the flavor is tasty, and all components work together so well. I'm only disappointed that I didn't order two! Plus, the owner Adam is kind and welcomes you into the shop. Overall great place, already planning my next stop in.

Yelp
Stopped by during a long walk as this place was on the way back home. It is inside a corner store and there were a lot of people in line and a bit crowded, but I'd say that if there's a line, you know it's good. The staff were super kind and you can enter in your order on a screen at the front. I got the breakfast in Bombay, and it was delicious - it is MN spicy so I couldn't taste the spice. My partner got the cryin egg, and this was even better. The garlic aioli is fantastic and it was so flavorful. We agreed that his was better. If you're driving, it could be challenging to find parking, but if you're able to, I highly recommend stopping by.

Yelp
The hype is real. The store is inside the fifth Avenue market which is near my office. I was particularly hungry one morning and decided to give it a try. You order with a tab/kiosk and they make the food right in front of you. I ordered the "classic" and it was the best breakfast sandwich I think I have ever had. No exaggeration.
google avatar

Jodi S.

Yelp
Egg on a Roll is the best little hidden gem in North Loop. You'll find the tastiest made to order breakfast sammies located in the Fifth Avenue Market on 2nd St and 5th Ave. Fresh ingredients, made to order, and very reasonable prices make this the perfect spot to grab breakfast. Order from the kiosk, the sandwich's are made to order so they take ~5 minutes, just enough time to grab some items from the market and then grab your egg n' bacon cheese or egg n' sausage or...you get the idea and be on your merry way. Or download the app, preorder and your breakfast sandwich is ready whenever you are! Give this little egg joint some love. You'll soon be a regular; rackin up those loyalty points.

Yelp
Unfortunately I think this was a little over-hyped, or I just got a fluke. Egg sandwich was cold and cheese was not melted. Felt like someone just threw cheese and an egg on bread and called it a day.
google avatar

Lucy A.

Yelp
Yummy! I know it would've been better if my order wasn't an hour late. I'm not going to let DoorDash rain on this business, food was still really good!!! The crab is the packaged ones u buy at Safeway. At first I thot it needed more crab but after eating it I think more store packaged crab would've ruined it. It's also a lil spicy. Their twist on Minnesota was reallllly good. My fave and I'll be back for this when I'm in town.

Yelp
Amazing egg sandwich to start the day!! Worker was super sweet and helpful and the food is delicious!! Def recommend it

Yelp
Perfection. Friendly staff. Generous portions. Quality ingredients. Don't delay getting your egg Sammy fix at Egg on a Roll. Nice menu of selections - my favorite being the Cryin Eggy. For a real treat, customize your own sandwich. And, while you're there ... don't forgot to pick up some snacks and drinks for later from the 5th Ave Market. #BodegaLife

Yelp
That brioche tho! And the most perfect egg! What a sandwich! And as another reviewer noted, the price is absolutely right. The Denver and Bombay were really delicious: substantial portions and an excellent balance of flavors and texture. I ordered delivery and had occasion to speak to a staff member on the phone who was very courteous and professional. Eggscelent!!
google avatar

Yelp
Really delicious breakfast sandwiches. It's located within the 5th Avenue Market, a nice neighborhood bodega, to which EoaR is a great addition. Fast, friendly service. Couldn't ask for more! We'll be back.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
I recently indulged in the most delightful breakfast experience - the fluffy perfect egg sandwich with a soft bun. The eggs were expertly cooked to perfection, creating a heavenly, velvety texture that melted in my mouth. The soft bun embraced the eggs, creating a harmonious blend of textures. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, leaving me craving more. This breakfast sandwich has set the bar high for morning indulgences, and I can't wait to savor it again.

Yelp
Had the chance to meet the owner and he couldn't be nicer! Delicious sandwiches and such a fun breakfast concept that the North Loop needed! Fast, casual and a hidden gem!
google avatar

Jeanell A.

Yelp
Terrific, made fresh sandwiches, awesome service and an incredible team! Order ahead is handy!

Jenna J.

Yelp
Whoever was at the counter was rude and seemed like he didn't want to be there. As soon as I walked out the door I took a bite and the sandwich was ice cold and it was annoyingly messy for an "on the go sandwich." Annoyed with the whole experience.
google avatar

Amal I.

Yelp
Stopped in on my way to the airport, location i a bit hard to find and is located inside a convince store. Rolls are freshly made and taste great.
google avatar

Freddy H.

Yelp
The sandwiches here are ridiculously good! Order the breakfast in bombay, the hot and crabby, and the crying eggy!
google avatar

Ryan R.

Yelp
Egg breakfast sandwich was phenomenal. Fantastic setup at the corner market. Excited to go back.

Mary P.

Yelp
Exceptional friendly and helpful staff !! Short wait (5 min) for sandwiches. Sandwich was good and portion was appropriate (not outrageous).

Brooke R.

Yelp
Sauce is great. Service was great. Small staff yet very engaging. It's in a corner store market, so it can get busy on the weekend.
google avatar

Mike Z.

Yelp
This is hands down the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Great price -- delicious. HIGHLY recommend!

Mike B.

Yelp
One of the best down and dirty breakfast sandwiches this side of the Mississippi!! I travel for a living and made it a point to try this guys creation, you can't go wrong on the menu. Nothing fancy just a great sandwich at a good price. Mb San Fran

Yelp
What a nice discovery today in the North Loop just 2 blocks from work. Breakfast in Bombay was amazing, including the removal of cream cheese but retain some sprinkles of garam masala. Sprouts, banana peppers, chorizo, and that perfect egg soufflé. Even better - an amazing lunch sandwich for under $10. Unheard of these days. Adam (the owner/operator) has a real gem here (located in a small neighborhood market) and I just hope it doesn't get too crowded around lunch time. Next time I'll have to remember to take a photo before I devour the sandwich.

Gretchen C.

Yelp
Very tasty! Convenient location in the North Loop. Timeliness in a larger order. Highly Recommend!
google avatar

Nickolai V.

Yelp
Adam is an absolute unit ! He made me and my family these custom made sandwiches that were the best breakfast sandwich I have ever tasted. It is one guy running this small operation. But this guy is a former executive chef, and can equate to a full set of kitchen staff. Super friendly and hospitable. Support this small business so we can see this guy have his own official restaurant one day!

kristina g.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwiches in Minneapolis! These guys are doing a great job and they are very nice!

Nick C.

Yelp
This is a must visit, owner is super kind and I love supporting him. The best breakfast sandwich I've had hands down
