Five New Restaurants to Try Right Now in San Diego - Eater San Diego

"Conveying egg-based sandwiches that are all the rage in Korea, Egglet uses slices of brioche bread as the foundation for breakfast sandwiched filled with omelets, cheese, and shredded cabbage plus enhancements like turkey sausage, grilled ham, or smoked bacon. The store also cooks up a Korean barbecue cheeseburger and grilled shrimp sandwich that includes an over-medium egg, caramelized onions, and cheese." - Candice Woo

Ordered the ham special, and quite pleased! Sandwich is hot and fresh, egg is fluffy and delicious! The sandwich is also very large and a great value. Will definitely return for a bfast fix if I'm in the area

Google
CHEEEEE HOOOOOOOO. YOOOOOOO THIS IS THEEEEEE PLACE FOR BREAKFAST SANDWICHES!!!! Had the hashbrown special with added bacon and it was phenomenal. The combination of the type of bread, matched with the truffle hashbrown, cheese and sweet bacon and seared cabbage GOES HARD. The atmosphere is small and quant but perfect for the community. They also have outdoor seating popping up. Its a small business with the workers multi hatting and doing a great job. Support great small Businesses like Egglet!

Made the trek from Chula Vista to come try this out. Came in about 9am on a weekend to my surprise no line and maybe had one table occupied. I ordered my food to go the wait was bearable as it is made as you order. Overall I enjoyed this sandwich it has a bit of sweetness to it but it’s not overbearing everything tied well together.

Google
We were at Egglet last weekend for breakfast. The place was almost occupied at 10am on a Sunday. We had the truffle hashbrown special which was delicious and huge. They also had fresh orange juice. They use brioche bread for the sandwiches which added a little sweetness to the overall taste but nothing over powering. The food took about 15 minutes to come after we ordered. Would visit again.

Google
This place is the perfect breakfast and brunch spot in town! Their recent opening has been a great addition, and their egg toast sandwiches are fantastic. I tried the egglet deluxe, and I loved it. I’m def going back to try the egglet toast as well n don’t miss out on their fresh homemade orange juice! Highly recommend checking them out!

Google
Top tier breakfast sandwiches, definitely a little different from the typical American format in the best way possible. Incredible value for the size of the sandwiches and a clean, pleasant atmosphere run by super nice people. Feels wierd being this early to a spot that will undoubtedly have a line out the door soon for Saturday/Sunday morning breakfast and brunch. 5 stars.

Google
Egglet has opened a new franchise location in the La Jolla UTC area, and it's a delightful addition. Known for their signature egglets, the buttery toast paired with an over-medium fried egg is simple yet excellent. I tried the Double Sausage Egglet, which features two turkey sausages, an omelet, and cheddar cheese—an ideal hearty breakfast. The Truffle Hash-Brown Special, with two crispy hash browns, mozzarella cheese, shredded cabbage, and truffle Parmesan & black garlic sauce, was also a standout. While the truffle flavor wasn't very pronounced, the combination of egg and hash browns worked beautifully. Another highlight was the Cheeseburger Egglet, which comes with a beef patty, over-medium egg, and grilled onions, sandwiched between their signature toast. The food does take some time to prepare, so expect a slight wait. The store is nicely decorated, creating a cozy ambiance, but it feels a bit empty, even months after its grand opening. Hopefully, the quality of the food will draw in more customers over time. It's dog-friendly with the settings of Patio dining area. Egglet at UTC is a promising spot, and while it’s not too crowded yet, it offers a delicious and unique breakfast or lunch option worth trying!

Google
Maybe my expectations are high because San Diego has the best breakfast sandwich spot in all of America with Sunny Side Kitchen, but these sandwiches are incredibly mid. Not much flavor. Low quality off the shelf ham. McDonald’s quality egg. Brioche bread is the only distinguishing factor here… But when I can go just a bit further north for breakfast sandwiches that are about the same price and literally a whole order of magnitude better? Like just shut this place down and replace it with Sunny Side at that point?

Yelp
This is the second time I've gotten food from here. Overall taste, love the different flavors I've had so far. The egglet sandwiches are of nice portions, and are nice and warm. I had the triple sausage the first time and was surprised by how filling it was. Definitely need to eat the egglet sandwiches when they're ready since the toast will absorb the sauce/heat and become soggy. So far been enjoying the flavors! The cheeseburgers are great too. Definitely will be a frequent spot for me since they open early enough for me to drop by after work. *my food photo skills are lacking. It looks a lot better than in my photo

Yelp
this place is so delicious, haven't had an egg sandwich that matches it! service was great too!

Yelp
Very nice staff! The best double sausage and chicken breast sandwich for breakfast! OJ and truffle fries are really good! Food is made very quick! Thank you!

Yelp
Holy moly, Egglet was such a surprise. The sandwiches are gigantic, the hash browns out of this world, orange juice freshly squeezed, service impeccable, and the space is tidy and organized. You MUST order the truffle hash browns. Don't even question it and just do it. They're crispy and coated in truffle and black garlic giving it a savory and sweet dusting. The sandwiches are enormous so don't say I didn't warn you. You can get the sandwiches using sliced brioche bread with omelet style eggs or a roll with over easy eggs. These sandwiches are Asian inspired and have a sweetness to them. I ordered the smoked bacon which was large, cheesy, had freshness from the cabbage, and so big I couldn't finish it. It was very good. My husband ordered the double sausage with two Turkey sausage links, cheese, and egg. If you've ever been to Japan, you've seen egg sandwiches with wieners which is exactly that. It's a link style sausage and not crumbled or sliced. So yummy. I was eyeing their orange juice and ordered it after we sat down and started eating. It was freshly squeezed, sweet, and perfect. The service was superb and the restaurant itself is so neat and clean. I would highly recommend swinging by to eat, bring an appetite, and know it's not a typical westernized breakfast sandwich.

Yelp
Was in the neighborhood dropping off a package at UPS and saw this place in the corner of my eye. Loved the simple menu, and options that all looked great. I saw that soft brioche bread from the guests that received the order before me. Had to go with the smoked bacon egg cheese sandwich. It was so hot and delicious I had to actually be patient to let it cool down a bit. Afterwards I asked them about a Chinese type crepe with egg and I didn't know they were Korean so I got extra embarrassed and was awkward but ended funny. For sure I will come back!

Yelp
I haven't gotten the opportunity to try anything else on their menu so this is purely for their Truffle Hash-Brown. This just might be the best hash browns, not just for its value, but also for its taste, in San Diego. Before we get into it, some information about the store and parking. Egglet is located in the same plaza as Vons and so there's a ton of parking available at any time of the day. The restaurant has indoor seating and kind of this patio seating. If you're dining in, I'd recommend sitting on the patio area or be prepared to smell like a diner for the rest of the day. The hash browns come with 3 per order. They're definitely larger than fast food chain restaurants' and crispier. And for just $4.50, these are already a much better deal. On top of all that, these are truffle hash-browns too. It's like a truffle parmesan sprinkle but the flavor is definitely there and it elevates the simple hash-brown. Highly recommend and can't wait to try other items on their menu!

Yelp
I saw this place on social media and excited to have a Korean egg sandwich spot in SD! I got the smoke bacon special which was a HUGE portion for $9.5; I shared with my sister and we still didn't finish it. I wasn't a fan of the "bacon" which was more of a sausage; maybe I just chose the wrong one. The eggs were fluffy and the toast was good but could be crunchier, and overall it was sweeter than I would like it. Service was good and fairly fast for a weekday morning given they only had 2 workers
google avatar

Yelp
Yum yum yum! Filling and quick and easy breakfast! Plenty of seating inside and out, and the service is quick. The bread is absolutely delicious and soft and the eggs are fluffy as well!

Yelp
I am such a huge fan of Korean-styled sandwiches, so I have been meaning to try Egglet out. We ordered the Truffle hash-brown special and the smoke bacon special. Both items were phenomenal and quite distinct from your typical breakfast sandwiches. Despite the fact that they have salty/cheesy toppings, the sandwiches also had a hint of sweetness to them. The bread was also very delicious and tasted moist (very far from dry, unlike most bread in sandwiches). The eggs were quite fluffy and moist as well. The sandwiches are quite large, so they are also great for sharing! We picked the sandwiches up, so they were at room temperature when we ended up eating them. I can only imagine how delicious they are when they are served fresh and hot. I would definitely recommend checking out Egglet--especially to those who are breakfast sandwich lovers!!

Yelp
This new Korean sandwich spot is tucked away in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking. We came on a Saturday morning at 10am and it wasn't too busy. We ordered at the counter and then seated ourselves. There's indoor seating and a covered patio with heating lamps. We got the smoke bacon egglet, double sausage egglet, and truffle hashbrowns. Everything came out piping hot and fresh. The brioche bread is fluffy and a little sweet. The eggs were cooked nicely. The portions are big! The hashbrowns were amazing - very crispy, and not overly oily. They add a truffle seasoning that is often overwhelming but they went light on it, so it was perfect. There is ketchup and hot sauce to add onto your sandwiches. I was hoping that the sausage was either an actual sausage or something with a bit more flavor. These taste like the hot dog buns you get at an Asian bakery. They're ok, I just don't love the texture, and can be a little deceiving if you're not familiar with these in Asian pastries. Other than that, we were thoroughly impressed with the taste, portion and price.

Yelp
The staff is super sweet and regularly checks in on tables, even though orders are placed at the front counter. The sandwiches are large and SO FILLING! I ordered the smoked bacon special, which could have used more bacon, but had fantastic cheese pulls. I also tried the ham and cheese special, which offered a nice balance of sweetness from the brioche and saltiness from the ham. Definitely coming back again!

Yelp
Egglet is a breakfast sandwich eatery operating out of a corner suite in a University City plaza off Regents Rd. The space used to house a poke shop before being converted to this business. There was a covered outdoor patio for seating in addition to the inside dining area. Egglets, sandwiches, salads, sides, beverages, and ice cream made up the menu categories. Some combination deals were available that included a drink as well as large box deals that featured a dozen servings. The sandwiches were more traditional fare like chicken breast and cheeseburgers. For the egglet category, there were eight varieties of omelet, meat, and cheese served on toast. The most decadent version was my selection, a Truffle Hash Brown Special. The ingredients were a seasoned hash brown, omelet, dip cheese, mozzarella, sheared cabbage, truffle parmesan, and black garlic. I thought that stuffing a hash brown on toast was a great idea as it added more heft. The truffle and black garlic provided sharp pungent flavors. The owners are Korean and were very friendly during my visit. Instead of another BBQ spot, I am glad they branched out and came up with egg sandwiches. If Egglet was not out of the way for my commute, then I would return more frequently to try some of the other products because the quality and value were at a four star level.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for breakfast sandwiches and love to see places like this pop up that specialize in it! I've seen a lot of churn in this location since I was a student at UCSD here and am glad to see them change it up a bit to something that can cater to a different meal time than lunch/dinner that is already nailed down by the other restaurants in the plaza. Staff was friendly and on top of keeping the place clean. Prices are a little loftier than I'd like but I know its hard these days with inflation ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I wish they would open one up closer to me but I think my wallet would be unhappy though my stomach definitely would be. I had the Truffle Hashbrown Special and can't wait to come back and try some others!
google avatar

Emily Z.

Yelp
They have their own little side parking lot and there's plenty of space inside to sit! There's QR codes on the tables but those seem to be solely for online ordering? You can also order at the front and they explain their items - the workers are really nice. It did take a while for the egglets to be made - around 20 min. I've had pretty similar sandwiches in Korea and these definitely compare! In fact these are more packed full of stuff but have similarly sweet flavors like those in Korea. We got the truffle egglet and the hashbrown egglet and both were delicious! I would definitely be back to try their other items!
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
I tried this Egglet for breakfast. I chose the Blaze Shrimp, it has over medium Eegg, grilled shrimps, caramelized onions, cheddar and sharp parmesan. My order came out quickly. I check my food to see if there's a good amount of shrimps and yes there's really a good amount of shrimps inside. A bit greasy but it was a good sandwich. But Pretty small size for 1 order. It didn't fill me up, so next time I will order 2 sandwiches. Lots of parking and tables inside . Staff are quick making the food orders.

Yelp
Such a great breakfast spot :) wonderful food, service, and just classics korean breakfast sandwiches you can't get anywhere else
google avatar

Jane K.

Yelp
Love that a new small local business came in instead of a chain restaurant to this spot. Tried it twice now and makes for a hearty breakfast. Not gonna lie the food can be a bit heavy but it's something different the neighborhood could use. I Love the freshly squeezed OJ and their crispy hasbrowns. Second visit it was quite busy - I don't think theyre used to the level of demand. So I do recommend calling in your order ahead of time if you don't wanna wait too long. There's seating indoors and outdoors. Fast casual Korean toast spot.
google avatar

Elisa L.

Yelp
Was excited to have a Korean egg sandwich spot in SD! We came on a Tuesday morning around 8:15 am and there were a few people sitting outside. My sister and I shared the smoke bacon special and it was HUGE that we didn't even finish it. It's loaded with toppings, the bread is crispy yet fluffy, and the eggs are soft, but the bacon was okay and was more of a ham than a bacon. Service was friendly and fast despite there only being 2 workers.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
The staff are extremely kind and friendly and the ambiance is clean and simple. However, they cook everything on one small grill so it takes a while to get your food. The favors are unique and I really liked the truffle sandwich. The eggs are fluffy and the toast is delicious. It's also a reasonable price point and I would come back here again
google avatar

Rae S.

Yelp
Wow! This place is soooo good, stop reading the reviews and go check it out now! The truffle hash browns alone were to die for... so much flavor and a massive portion for one person. The same can be said for the sando. The overall vibe of the restaurant was very open and cutely decorated with the egg theme. There was ample indoor and outdoor seating as well. They were particularly busy on a Sunday morning so we waited about 30-40 mins to order and get our food but the staff was very apologetic and nice about it which is understandable as you can see that they operate in a small kitchen. They do have the option to order online so might place an order ahead next time to save some time waiting. But it is definitely worth the wait to get to eat their yummy food! Will be back soon

Yelp
Came here on Sunday around 10 AM with my mom. This place is in the same strip mall as Vons, SDCCU, & Leucadia. I ordered the double egg sandwich and my mom ordered the ham & cheese. Bread was a little sweet but soft and fluffy. Egg was also fluffy and very good. Cashier was very nice and friendly. Will definitely come back here again.
google avatar

Kapo K.

Yelp
I liked the food for what it is. I thought it was well made with bread being toasty and butter flavor. The portion of ham, egg, and cheese was put together just right for me. Cabbage was a bit of a surprise in the design of the dish, but I liked it However my wife didn't care for it. Apparently it was too sweet and she don't care for anything sweet in savory dishes for the most part. But that is just a plain subjective preference. I think this place is in right place selling right things ,like fresh squeezed oranges for breakfast in La Jolla. This place is in it for good trajectory, I think.
google avatar

Anika R.

Yelp
I was running errands in the complex and I stumbled upon Egglet in the corner. I decided to check it out and the employees were very nice and recommended that I order the Truffle Hash Brown Special Egglet. It was packed with flavor and came in a very generous portion!
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Liked it! Would return. Hashbrowns: you get three, which is a lot for their size. Strong truffle. 9/10 Egg triple cheese special egglet: way too big for me but it was good. Very cheesy. Maybe a little bit too salty. Brioche is really good, it's the perfect slightly sweet that complements the salty sandwich. Took off two points only because I personally thought it was too heavy/unhealthy. 8/10 Smoke bacon sandwich: husband really liked it, no complaints. He said 8/10. Fresh orange juice: so good we bought a second one. 20/10
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
This is a New restaurant in the area and still working out the kinks. When we went, there was no toast for the egglet sandwiches. I was not keen on the double sausage sandwich. If I had known it was not American sausage but rather hotdog meat, I would have chosen something else. Otherwise, the sandwich itself was tasty. Note: the hash brown option could come without truffle oil so we asked for without which was a plus. Tastes just like the one at McDonald's. Different observation: hash browns came in a quantity of three. If we had known, we would have ordered one vs two orders of the hash browns. Had 6 total amongst just the two of us.
google avatar

Unja K.

Yelp
So glad I found this place! I ordered Korean bbq sandwiches, which was so great and goes well with fresh orange juice. I can't forget the taste of these in my mouth and craving again.
google avatar

Alicia B.

Yelp
Friendly staff and delicious food! Their truffle hash browns are to die for!! This is a great breakfast spot. Never disappoints
google avatar

Ronald B.

Yelp
Never heard of this place, but saw it when I was shopping in the Vons shopping mall. Went there for a smoked bacon breakfast sandwich as well as the truffle hashbrowns. The sandwich was delicious. Smoked bacon definitely like I've never tasted before. The hashbrowns are literally McDonald's hashbrowns with a little truffle seasoning on top. Good but definitely not worth the additional cost. Will definitely come back again to try some of their other sandwiches. The servers were definitely very kind and helpful when you first come in and it's a quiet spot so if you want to do some work while you were eating your breakfast, this is a great spot.
google avatar

Cathleen Jane S.

Yelp
Went Sunday morning around 930 am. The restaurant was half-full and there's were about 4 people in line ahead of us! The lady at the register was very nice and we got our food quickly! I got the truffle hash brown egglet special and it's so simple and sooo good!!!! I'd go here again to try different menu items as I work nearby! They have drip coffee which was also very good! The prices are fair too!
google avatar

Anatoliy B.

Yelp
Politely asked if I can use the restroom before ordering my food. Was told that restrooms are for customers only. At that point i decided to eat somewhere else
google avatar

Joseph W.

Yelp
Love a good breakfast sandwich, so I was excited for this place to open. I ordered the Triple Sausage Special and one order of Truffle Hash Browns (3). Service was a bit slow, but they give you a buzzer so you can wait outside. I was disappointed to discover that "sausage" referred to hot dogs, rather than the breakfast style sausage I was expecting. I suppose this is my fault for not researching earlier, but the hot dogs themselves lacked flavor and made the sandwich difficult to eat. The flavors in the sandwich itself were overwhelmed by the sweet, almost fruity sauce that I could not identify in the menu descriptions. I'll try the bacon variety in the future. The hash browns were simply fantastic and the portions were well worth the cost. I will go back for these alone.

Chantal S.

Yelp
Such good hash browns and sandwiches!! My hubby and I enjoyed this Korean cafe! We are going to frequenting here at least once a month!
google avatar

Loretta W.

Yelp
Egg sandwich wirh bacon on brioche bread with their secret sauce delicious. Coffee is also dark roast & good flavor. Staff is wonderful.

Meghan H.

Yelp
Pretty good! Really enjoyed my sandwich! Had been wanting to try this place for a while and it lived up to my expectations!(: The place was clean and quiet(: Workers were friendly!

Tom B.

Yelp
I have a new favorite sandwich place in Egglet. My Truffle Hash-Brown Special was big -- it weighed in at over a pound on my postal scale -- and it was very tasty. I like the crunchiness added by the hashbrowns. The cabbage was a bit sweet, but it worked. I added a little Sriracha and it was perfect. We are luck to have this new business in our neighborhood.
google avatar

Alisha T.

Yelp
this place is starting to become my #1 breakfast spot yall im not even kidding it's like crack, the first bite everytime is phenomenal. something about their ingredients, scream fresh and it's the perfect buttery sweet with a savory touch and cheesy pull. I couldn't even capture a pic because I inhaled it but yall should try it out.
google avatar

Julie E.

Yelp
Quick service. Clean. Good Egglets. Their menu is very limited. When we first walked in we were looking for the menu to think about what to order but it's not displayed anywhere except at the counter where you order. I think it would be cute to have a sign that describes the history and evolution of the Egglet.

Emily A.

Yelp
Sandwich was huge and really yummy. Great service and good atmosphere. Great place! Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Stanley P.

Yelp
Very cute breakfast spot with delicious food (Korean egg sandwiches!). The cashier was super kind in helping us choose what to get, and often checked in on how we were doing. They just recently opened, so please come support this place and make it popular!

Yelp
This place serves amazing egg sandwiches. I like their hash brown a lot. Crunchy and flavorful. Worth the wait.
google avatar

K S.

Yelp
They need to work out the system better . Long wait, ran out of orange juice and then skipped on the added bacon we payed extra for .
google avatar

Jaime L.

Yelp
My new favorite brunch place. Egglet bread was so soft and yummy. Coffee is good too.

Eric H.

Yelp
Found this place trying to avoid McDonald's and it was perfect. Too bad I was only visiting the area but next time I'm in La Jolla, this is my breakfast spot.

Brent

Yelp
Found this place while looking for a good breakfast sandwich and saw how good the prices were, so stopped by and was shocked at how big my sandwich was when I got it. Food and workers were amazing will definitely be coming back here!

Vicki N.

Yelp
The food was quite expensive and not good. There was very little room at all for any modifications. We really wanted to like this as it's across the street from our house, but it was not very good.
google avatar

William V.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich place I needed. Ive had more than a handful of their sandwiches, and the burger which were very good. It's a nice difference from all the bagels around and I like the korean flavors they use in the specials like the burger.

HJ L.

Yelp
Delicious!! I am here for my brunch, and I ordered a cheese burger .It was delicious. Bun cooked perfectly!!! I also had a Hash Brown.so crispy.Today was a soft opening, so I could get 10%discount. Lucky day.

Gillian L.

Yelp
Went here with my family for breakfast. The food was delicious, made quickly, and you can tell they took a lot of care in making it. The sandwiches were quite large so we were able to take leftovers to our trip to the San Diego zoo. The owner gave us a free salad and some extra hash browns so every member of the family could have one. We really enjoyed our experience here and would go back!

Jose L P.

Yelp
Cute flavorful place and unique. Cabbage on my Sandwich was unusual for me but very flavorful to my pallet. Definitely will come back when in the area.
