"Located below ritzy steakhouse Maple & Ash, Eight Bar is the Gold Coast’s version of a neighborhood bar albeit with plenty of glam touches all its own. Visit during happy hour from 4-6 p.m. daily for $8 mini martinis and a variety of Japanese plates. Choose from karaage (Japanese fried chicken) paired with hot mustard aioli and a variety of handrolls, including king crab, spicy tuna, and salmon, all for $8." - Lisa Shames

Google
A place that doesn't disappoint. The drinks delicious and the food is Great. Definitely a place to recommend. The servers definitely know their menu. The way they present themselves and are able to give recommendations is a plus.

Google
This place is pure perfection, it’s casual but also feels luxurious at the same time. Great spot for a work dinner or date night. I can’t stop myself from coming back for the king crab roll and the pornstar martini it’s incredible. They are also very good with reservations and will usually have a table available even in short notice. Also they have valet parking for only $20. Overall a must try.

Google
Went for lunch today and it was really mid. Tuna tartar tasted like guacamole and sour cream. Lamb chops tasted like "meat" (very little actual flavor of lamb) and French fries tasted like fry oil. Before covid this place was one of the best steak houses in the city but it never came back. Service was top notch, though. This is a see and be seen place.

Google
ve been to Maple & Ash before, so I already had high expectations—and Eight Bar did not disappoint. I stopped in for a solo lunch on the patio this past Wednesday and had Raymond as my server. He was super attentive, polite, and made the whole experience feel top tier. The food was delicious, just as I expected based on my past experiences at Maple & Ash. I’m definitely looking forward to coming back—and I absolutely plan to have Raymond as my server again. 10/10!

Came here with a friend for dinner on a Thursday. Fantastic experience. Menu was great. You should definitely order the table s’mores dessert!! I only had one bite but it was so cool!! The staff is really nice here. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you’re looking for a fun dinner!

The food was so good! The crab roll and baked oysters were my favorite from the seafood and the mashed potatoes were so buttery and delicious 10/10! Drinks were perfect!

Google
Eight Bar offers a strong culinary and cocktail experience that lives up to the reputation of its parent, Maple & Ash. The food is consistently delicious, and the cocktail program is well-crafted, offering a solid selection that complements the upscale bar dining concept. That said, the experience varies significantly depending on where you’re seated. Indoor service is attentive and professional, enhancing the overall vibe. However, if you’re seated outdoors, expect a noticeable drop in service quality — slower and less responsive compared to the inside. More concerning is the outdoor ambiance. While the location tries to extend the Maple & Ash brand, the outdoor area suffers from a persistent and unpleasant urine smell — likely due to ongoing issues with nearby homeless activity. It’s clear that this area needs more frequent cleaning or power washing to meet the standards guests associate with Maple & Ash.

I stumbled in here on a whim after getting married in Chicago city court and had the absolute pleasure of having Marcel as our waiter. He was incredibly personable and attentive and truly made this day unforgettable. After learning we were waiting for a table upstairs he managed to get us in the main dining room and the rest of our evening was pure magic. Thank you Marcel! You are a man from another time and I’m sure your skillful hospitality will continue to take you very far. We can’t thank you enough!

Yelp
I went here on a Wednesday with two friends around 4:30pm for happy hour. We got lucky to be seated right away with no reservations. It's a cute space but is small so would recommend making reservations. I ordered the salmon miso and spicy tuna hand rolls. The hand rolls were fine but a little pricy. My friend ordered the dirty martini and it was good. It's on the briny side since it's more olive juice than vodka - if that's what you're looking for, order that.

Yelp
Small with limited seating so definitely recommend a reservation. The tuna crispy rice comes with one piece at a time and it was tasty. I got the steak frites which was good but didn't blow my mind. The burger is very reasonably priced and I would recommend that! It's like an up scale Big Mac which I loved. The fries are delicious as well. One thing of note was that I wrote that there was a birthday and our server didn't ask or mention anything for that. That was pretty disappointing because at a restaurant like that, you would expect them to take note.

Yelp
A good spot for a business lunch or a low key date. Lower-key compared to other gold coast options, but not cheap by any means. The menu has some M&A items, but far easier to get a reservation. Good cocktails with a small selection of n/a options. Nice atmosphere whether inside or on the patio. Great service. We were in a bit of a rush and the staff got us in and out pretty quickly which was appreciated. Had the best salmon I've had in a while. I snatched some of my lunch companion's fries and they were perfect. The tuna roll was kinda meh, but everything else I really liked. A really solid choice for lunch, but for dinner I'd personally rather eat upstairs at Maple & Ash. Pricing is comparable and for that kind of cash, I'd rather have more of an experience.

Yelp
Eight Bar is Maple and Ash's newly renovated, more casual establishment. It's basically in the same location, but the entrance is off to the left and it's a darker, more intimate space on the inside. There is a huge bar and a couple tables inside, but most of the seating I noticed was outside on the patio. The menu is different in terms of its more casual and quick bites, but you can still find a lot of maple and ashes menu items on this menu as well. The service here was wonderful and the staff had great recommendations when we asked for their preferences on certain items. They even brought my mother over the new drink because she wasn't enthused about the drink recommendation the waiter gave her. He was super nice about it and even though she didn't want a replacement, he brought her one anyways!! The tuna bites are to die for. They are quite expensive but it literally melts in your mouth and is so aesthetically pleasing with the gold flakes on top. The octopus was also fantastic. We also got a crab roll, which was delicious and you could tell it was very fresh. I will definitely return here, especially to sit outside on the patio on a beautiful Chicago day. It is expensive, but well worth it and quite the scene. I really want to check this place out for brunch as well

Yelp
Cute happy hour martinis and snacks. Romantic and fun atmosphere! Make a reservation if you can to ensure a spot. Love this spot!!

Yelp
Love Eight Bar - the king crab roll, burger, caviar mozzarella stick, cocktails. Happy hour with everything $8. Late night - has it all.

Yelp
Super fun place! Service is amazing and food is great however a little pricey. I love coming here for celebrations however it is a small space so book ahead!

Yelp
Aperol Happy Hour. The spritz is $15 dollars which isn't really much of any deal but you do get $9 tune and king crab hand rolls which I did indulge in but didn't snap a pic of. The patio is delectable. The service really good. According to Emily the salad was really good, especially with the warm bacon. I at this point I've been to 3 different Maple and Ash/Eight Bar happy hours: 9-11pm happy hour, tower hour and now aperol spritz.

Yelp
Great service and excellent food. The patio at maple and ash is a more casual version of the inside area. The menu is also a little different but it still offers all the goods. I love their ricotta agnolotti and the octopus appetizer. I'm not a huge fan of the New York strip cut just in general so I would love to come back and sit in the formal dining area to try a filet. Would definitely recommend Maple & Ash for any celebration or fun occasion. They even give you customized menus!

Yelp
While attending a conference in Chicago, we enjoyed dinner at this restaurant. The food was exceptional, and the staff provided outstanding service. Our experience from the moment we arrived was fantastic, and I'm very eager to return. I highly recommend trying the truffle pasta!

Yelp
Mid lol. I've eaten upstairs and down; ordered Sashimi Ponzu and the Caviar Cheesestick. Cuts of fish were tough. The cheesestick could've been served warmer. Unappealing. I just want to eat my food and say "Yum" afterwards lol.

Yelp
Trying to think of a special place to have our small celebratory engagement dinner, I couldn't think of any other place that has raved reviews after raved reviews. I didn't realize the patio was a completely different menu, but we weren't disappointed either way. Roberto was our waiter and the staff was on point at all times. Some of the best service in Chicago, in my opinion. We got a custom menu to celebrate our engagement and Roberto was kind enough to treat us all to a glass of champagne for a toast. It was such a delightful touch. He also recommended a great bottle of wine that got us perfectly toasty for the cold night we visited on. The patio is completely covered and warm inside - warm enough to take your coat off just FYI. The food is really good and pricey - so be prepared. We absolutely loved everything we got (which I'll list below), but I think next time, we'll opt out of getting the steak. We'll never learn our lesson that steaks are just better cooked at home. But hey, that's just our opinion. Chopped salad (maple & ash wedge) - refreshing, light, flavorful, and crispy. The dressing isn't overpowering. It's big enough to share with 2-3. Dry aged Meatballs - a must! So good, cheesy, and flavorful. Comes with a side of bread and four meatballs. Topped with sauce, perfect for dipping. Don't skip! 28oz bone-in Ribeye - I absolutely love fat. This one was perfectly medium rare and came on the bone. There was a little too much grizzle that made a few parts tough to chew. Like I said, I really like the fat so I was bummed to not get much out of this. Mashed potatoes - do not skip! I repeat, do not skip. This is also a just. A side large enough to split with 2-3 but honestly, you won't want to. It's a 50/50 mashed potatoes I believe. At least that's how it tasted. Completely smooth and creamy. Next time I'll be getting this and trying the Mac and cheese. Coconut cream pie - highly recommend, even if you're a chocolate lover. So light and refreshing. It was the first to go at a table full of chocolate lovers. Chocolate cake - it had a hazelnut topping that was crunchy and a the perfect texture complement. The rest was a little too dense for me. That doesn't mean it wasn't great. I just preferred the coconut cream pie. Next time I'll try the bone marrow and a few other items. I wasn't with the most explorative group of people that eat absolutely anything like myself haha.

Yelp
Made a reservation at 12 exactly when they open, pretty chill vibe has a big bar and wide selections of cocktails, food is pretty well priced, customer service is A1. Really friendly and answered all my questions about the menue I ordered half oysters and king nigiri, came out pretty quickly and man the fish and oyster were soo fresh! The nigiri was 8pcs, Parking street parking if you can find it or $20 valley parking.

Yelp
it was beautiful night in summer . Food was good but overall ambiance so nice . Service great

Yelp
Amazing food. Had a great server, Donte. The king crab hand roll- will be dreaming about this combination of flavors for the rest of my life. Great atmosphere, highly recommend. 10/10 no notes.

Yelp
I took my lady here for her birthday. I had no idea that the patio was separate from the inside dining room. But the patio was heated and comfortable. There's about as much space in the patio as there is inside. The only difference is that the dining room menu has a few more options. I got the steak frites. I haven't had the best experiences with Chicago steak houses but this one is near the top. Great quality steak prepared perfectly. Our host Brayan was awesome with helping us make our selections. For Steak house recommendations, this should be a top 5 option.

Yelp
The "Patio" dining is the bar area dining, while the main restaurant was upstairs I believe. Very busy for a weekday. We started off with the meatballs which were delicious but on the borderline of being too salty with the sauce. Our main entrée which took slightly longer to come out, was the steak frites and the steak dip sandwich. Again the sandwich was great, but with the dip, it made it too salty. The steak was cooked well and seasoned beautifully. Our waiter was decent for the most part.

Yelp
Had the best time at the bar here. Service was outstanding, wine was flowing and food was yummy. Loved the vibe, especially if you're wearing something a bit more casual than upstairs attire. Would definitely go back and get more of the sushi!

Yelp
We went to Maple & Ash to celebrate a birthday dinner. The dining room reservations are usually booked far in advance. We were lucky to get patio seating which was warm and cozy. The service was great. I loved the downstairs burger and the mac & cheese. Definitely recommend both! I'm not a huge fan of french onion soup but my husband said it was really good!

Yelp
8 Bar is the perfect accessory to a fine dining steakhouse. If you would like a nice glass of wine or an incredible burger without all that goes with a reservation and planning of a hotspot steakhouse, you can pop into 8 Bar on the first floor of Maple & Ash for a relaxing and wonderful experience. I love visiting 8 Bar on a whim, on my way home from work or when I have a little free time. Sometimes I get a bite to eat and others just a cocktail. Everyone all dolled up, going to Maple & Ash walk through 8 Bar to go upstairs so it's fantastic for people watching. The room is small with a large bar flanking one side and seating along the other. Dimly lit, casual elegance and a relaxing atmosphere makes this a perfect neighborhood spot. Service is always friendly. Gordon the Maitre d' is incredible! Although he is in charge of the full service restaurant upstairs, he can be seen coming through 8 Bar checking on everything. He always stops to say hello. I always feel welcome and appreciated. I highly recommend 8 Bar. Gold Coast neighbors, other locals and tourists will enjoy themselves for sure!

Jamie P.

Yelp
Love the patio. It's the best just hanging out having a nice meal talking with my friends. It's the best. The service I highly recommend. All my friends and I always hang out there always when I meet new friends. I tell them where to go Maple and Ash patio.
google avatar

Erica J.

Yelp
Nice, lowkey spot situated on the floor below Maple & Ash. There's patio seating out front that fills up quickly, especially on a beautiful summer, weekend. There are over-sized booths inside, facing the bar. I came here to unwind on a Friday, for a quick drink and appetizer. The bartender accommodated my request for a French 75, though it was not listed on the menu. The crab legs were to die for! They were delicious, perhaps with slightly too much butter, but it wasn't a deal breaker. The baseball game and a tennis match played on either tv. It was great to get away from the Maple and Ash crowd and relax with fewer people.

Yelp
We came to celebrate a birthday. The fancy menu was provided and after we spent good amount of time choosing from it, we were told it's just a souvenir and we can't order from it. Patio menu was very limited. That said, seafood was very fresh. We had shrimp and mango salad was very good, salmon miso roll was very good so as parmesan fries. Ribeye we ordered medium rare and it arrived raw. We sent it back after finally flagging some service and it arrived back just right. Drinks were very good. People were just chilling at their tables for hours drinking and having conversations so the slow service is ok for that.

Yelp
I would say it's a must visit when in the CHI. We chose an early afternoon resi for 4:45pm on a sunny day which was a good idea. Be careful with the bees around but it wasn't too bad. We were celebrating a new job on my behalf so it was a good reason to get dressed and go to a cute girls dinner. Drinks were good ! My sushi was amazing. And we shared the Mac and cheese. They even customized the menu to match the occasion. Highly recommend if you want a reason to get dressed up and be fine while you dine :-)

Yelp
My wife and I love to take a weekend to visit steakhouses in the US. We've been to Omaha, San Antonio, Dallas, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Vegas, New Orleans, Wyoming ( every place in Wyoming has good steak), Philly, and others nationally. In Chicago, the usual suspects; Gibsons, Mortons, Smith & Wollensky, RPM, P&P, and others. Maple and Ash has a healthy combination of amazing food, amazing view (inside and out), and every angle is an Instapost (Kodak moment). I'd recommend this place to anyone. The price definitely reflects the experience. Eat Responsibly

Yelp
The food was amazing and so was the service and ambiance as well. Everything was perfect we absolutely loved every moment of it and will be making this a favorite of ours!

Yelp
She fancy!!! This may be a patio but let's be serious it's still Maple and Ash. The white table clothed patio is situated right on Maple and is an A+ people watching spot. You will spot the restaurant easily because 9 times out of 10 there will be a Lambo, Ferrari or Bentley parked in front. This is also the spot to wear your fav IG outfit. Dress is smart/dressy to cocktail One of my favorite dishes to get is the lunch lobster roll but you have to get there before 3 to get it. Since I missed the window this past visit my server let me know I could get the 1/2 Maine lobster and it was that same lobster they serve on the roll. I took her suggestion and added the Mac and cheese to replace my carbs from the roll - those are equal right ? We also added the dry aged meatballs for a lunchtime surf and turf. Service was fast and on point through lunch and our cocktails remained full. I tried the Spanish secrets and Admired from afar cocktails both were very balanced but wow, Admired from afar wins prettiest cocktail! If you want to take it to the next level they also have a cocktail cart that offers table side concoctions. It was tequila the day that I went not sure if it's always tequila but who doesn't love a table side cocktail? Don't forget to check your metal cocktail straw for a sassy message!!! While the prices are at the higher end I wouldn't recommend this for just a casual lunch but it's a nice spot for a special occasion, date or celebration. Many people around us were there were some type of celebration and they do offer personalized menus which is also a nice touch.

Yelp
It was a beautiful day so we decided to do some shopping in the area with the intention of eating at another restaurant. However when we walked past 8 Bar, the patio area just looked too nice to pass up. We weren't all that hungry so we decided to order a few appetizers instead of full entrees. We got the French onion soup, burrata, shrimp cocktail and oysters. I was a big fan of the burrata! The baguette was so nicely toasted and the tomatoes went perfectly with the cheese. The shrimp cocktail surprised me- I initially thought it would be regular sized shrimp in higher quantity, but instead they came out with 4 ginormous shrimp. It came with standard cocktail sauce, butter and garlic aioli, of which the butter was definitely my favorite. The oysters were a little small for 3 dollars a piece but I get it, it's not exactly oyster season. They tasted pretty fresh though and sweet which I like (not a huge fan of salty oysters). Not a huge fan of French onion soup so I can't say much about that but my fiancé seemed to enjoy it. The top is covered with cheese though so be careful taking the first bite!

S Y.

Yelp
Very good food just like the upstairs. The cocktails are great as usually. Service was on point. Great interior. I would recommend.

Yelp
Great service and food. Good with allergies. A bit loud but nice to be in the area when it's nice outside.
google avatar

Joi J.

Yelp
I did not like our seating situation but that is solely my fault. When I booked the reservations I did not pay attention to the "patio" part. I was very disappointed to find out that we would be basically eating in the bar area. My review is for the food and service only. The food is amazing!!! I had a steak (don't remember which one) but it was probably the best steak I've tasted from a restaurant and I've been to a few of the big steak places downtown. The highlight was the macaroni and cheese. Oh. My. Goodness. So good! So cheesy! I would go back just for that!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this bar because it's a great place to pop by after working a long shift.. Monday's are industry night which includes a free burger with a drink purchase as well as some drink specials that rotate. Friendly service and conversation, tasty food, all topped off with a low key atmosphere. Eight bar isn't a place to pass by in the Gold Coast.

Yelp
I love the outdoor patio setup! I have always been a huge fan of Maple and Ash and the patio is just as impressive and sexy as the indoor restaurant. I was a little skeptical initially about dining outside as it was freezing, but the hostess assured me that it was well heated and she was correct. I took my jacket off as soon as we entered. It was well insulated and I loved the high end porter potties. We dined on the king crab omelette, hash browns and farm omelette and all were delicious! I am forewarning you now, the Pornstar Martini's are sneaky little devils...after 3, my day had literally ended and it was only 4pm! Our server was so gracious and accommodating. I cannot remember her name, but my ticket says 8034/Cooper.

Yelp
I visited 8 Bar during a family trip to Chicago and it was easily the best meal of the trip. Some of the dishes that we had were the Burrata, Calamari, Tomato Bisque, Roasted Beets and Shaved Greens, Pork Chop Parmesan, Downstairs Burger, and Steak Sandwich. All the choices were delicious and the service was wonderful. During our time on the patio it started to downpour and the servers were quick moving to get us to somewhere dry. They offered us a spot inside even though we had our family dog with us. We opted to stay outside under the umbrella but it was a very nice gesture. As we were leaving they handed us umbrellas and told us not to worry about returning them (even though we did the next day). All around a wonderful experience and we will be returning on our next family trip to Chicago. *Visited Sept/18

Yelp
We came here for my friends birthday last weekend, and the outdoor patio experience is like nothing else because they have money. You're basically under a large, stabilized tent, and very close to other tables. No need for your jackets as its heated perfectly. Luckily I'm a liberal COVID person. Ambience is awesome and it was so nice to be out and have a reason to dress up. This is one of few times where I love being around rich white folx. I wish I had more experiences like this, but can't believe they knocked down an apartment building for this #blm I'm vegan and called ahead to assure there were options for me, and the person on the phone said there's a separate vegan menu not featured on the site. Upon placing my order the waitress said there was no such thing and told me "hard no" when I asked to speak to the chef. The manager John came to the rescue and visited the chef. They created a custom meal for me which was pretty much a combo of their salad x appetizers, but it was flavored well and enjoyable. I found the joy of butter lettuce because of here. They comped my meal too except the wine. John continuously checked in and made this review 4 instead of 2 stars.

Paul J.

Yelp
Apparently the patio has a different menu with only 1 vegetable side option and 2 dessert options. You can't order any sides off the regular menu, I asked. I had the mango and shrimp salad which was good. I then had the filet which was soo tiny and burnt on the edges. By the time I cut off the burnt parts, there was basically nothing left. Hard to believe the price I paid for that-

Yelp
Edit. I actually removed stars, as I got a dm for contact info from M&A, I responded and nothing. Actually not surprised, given that my only complaint was service related. Oh well, guess I'm not their kind of customer anyway. Food - EXCELLENT - despite that it was cold by the time I got to chewing on it, I would order the burger again. You cannot go wrong on this menu, though. I actually went with a cheeseburger, wife and kids had sushi. SIL had a steak. The burger and steak were cooked perfectly to order. The sushi was amazing. We were celebrating my daughters graduation from Loyola Law and made reservations two months in advance for after the ceremony. We got stuck in Chicago traffic and arrived late for our reservation. We texted ahead to let them know that we would be late, but were on our way. We had to wait about 20 minutes for them to set up a table for us, and they were very accommodating. Unfortunately, however, the service was horribly lacking. The front server showed up and got our drink/appetizer order and that was the last we saw of her for a while. She did eventually return for our entree order, then left again. I tried to find anyone to refill my drink, but alas, no servers around. I asked the busser to refill my tea and he more or less grunted at me and disappeared. He did return eventually, but with no tea and instead, cleared our table of appetizer plates and cutlery. A few minutes later, our entrees were delivered. Asked for utensils to eat with and again asked for a tea refill, and the back waiter disappeared. Front server nowhere to be found. Grunty busser also nowhere to be found. No silverware to help ourselves to. After waiting five minutes, went to discuss with hostess, who just ignored me after I waited patiently for a few minutes. By the time I made it back about ten minutes later, they were placing silverware. Unfortunately, hot food items were now cold. Sushi was okay though as it should be cold, but still no iced tea refill. Eventually the front server returned and comped a couple of desserts for us "for our celebration". Didn't see here again until she delivered the hefty check. She was very prompt from this point on. While the food was tasty, I don't think I'll be back. It's just too astronomically expensive and I believe that should be reflected in the quality of service, but is not.

Yelp
The stay was amazing!! Resort is well maintained. Staff are very polite and responsive. Ms. Chelsey was very helpful in suggesting nearby tourists spots (like laid view point) and also was very hardworking. Had an amazing time here . Will definitely visit again.

Yelp
You might be able to get a reservation quicker than the main restaurant, but don't do it!! Extremely disappointed. My husband and I chose to "celebrate" our anniversary at Maple & Ash. To start we were not given the personalized menu commemorating our anniversary, which was disappointing. When we were seated at our table it took over 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge we were there. We were about to get up and leave, but then our server finally stopped by. I really did want to take a picture of the personalized menu, so I decided to say something to the hostess while we waited for our food. She said "oh yes! I see that you're celebrating your 5th anniversary! I will get the menu printed for you." Never came. The food came out quickly. I ordered my steak medium and it came out rare at best. Took about 5 minutes to flag down a server to show them how undercooked it was. (When you're playing prices like that if expect the server to check in on you the second the food is dropped.) They took it back to be cooked to the proper temperature. My husband felt bad eating without me so then his food got cold while we waited for mine to be cooked. Not exactly the ideal eating situation for our anniversary dinner. Perhaps this wouldn't be as bad if our server was attentive and actually noticed that when I cut into my steak that it was not the correct temperature. Once my steak was cooked a busser brought it back out, the server didn't check to see if it was better, a manager never came by, nothing. Honestly, the food was fine. Nothing spectacular. We were never given a dessert menu and as it was a special occasion we probably would've ordered some. After we had paid, the server came by with two tiny glasses of champagne and said I hear we are celebrating an anniversary. Too late. I would've shared our experience with a manager, had one gone actually gone around to do table visits. I would not be writing a review if this were just your average restaurant, but when you are paying for a nice meal you expect everything to be fantastic. So sad this is where we chose to eat. I had such high hopes for this place.

Yelp
I came here with a friend late on Tuesday evening and luckily we were able to get a seat out on the patio right away. We weren't starving and decided to just get a drink and a few bites to eat. All the appetizers we tried were delicious: meatballs, artichokes, and fries. Service was excellent! I can't wait to go back and try their main restaurant Maple and Ash. :)

Yelp
Eight Bar interior decor is absolutely gorgeous! While lunch time is more slow, I enjoyed having the dining space all to myself. The Roasted Slagel Chicken and spicy lamb meatballs were both fantastic. The chicken was tender, juicy, gravy and skin lightly roasted. Though I was a little disappointed the beets salad was a little bland.

Yelp
It doesn't matter if you decide to dine in or outside, the service is 2nd to none and the drinks were beautifully presented and left you wanting another! Great place to eat and or just have a drink. Make sure to checkout the desserts too! Their servers are knowledgeable and attentive. Overall a perfect experience.

Yelp
Two gals from Boston in town for a conference. Last night in Chicago, and looking for a nice craft cocktail bar. And man we found a wicked pissah one in 8 Bar. Matt the bar tender was attentive, friendly and knew his craft. It was great to watch him mix up concoctions for us and the other patrons. I'd come back here in a heartbeat. Thanks for a great last night Matt! K & K

Yelp
Top-five thin-patty burger, nationwide. Less salty than Au Cheval. Took advantage of being hungry at 1:30pm on a weekday to grab a bar seat downstairs at Maple and Ash to try out the much lauded burger. Good choice. The Downstairs Burger was a thin-patty double cheeseburger topped with cheddar, and a small amount of onions and dijon mustard. A pickle wedge was served on the side, but no lettuce or tomato to detract from the mouthful of juicy meat and cheese. Overall, a very simple burger which exploded with subtle flavor and beefy goodness in a flavor that evokes, but overall surpasses that of In-N-Out Burger (of course, at more than three times the price). Order came with transcendant french fries, which topped with parmesan and rosemary, might be worth the trip alone.

Yelp
Super cute patio that is truly a hidden gem - most would think it's a part of Maple and Ash, but surpirse! It has it's own menu and patio. We came here for brunch on a sunny day to utilize the patio. The brunch selections were standard, but I went with the golden beets and shaved greens salad off the lunch menu. This was a nice refreshing salad after a heavy food weekend. I also had the bacon off my friend's soft scrambled platter, and this was huge! It was pork belly style rather than crispy bacon style, but tasty nonetheless. Our service was great and friendly as well. I would definitely recommend this spot in the lovely outdoor Goldcoast area.

Yelp
The downstairs of Maple and Ash is easily my second favorite spot in the city to grab a bite (upstairs being my first). You can get it all here: amazing food, charming service, and a fun lounge atmosphere that you'll never want to leave. I've worked my way through most of the menu and I can tell you from experience you cannot go wrong. A couple personal favorites are the burger and fries, buratta, and the number Juan sandwich (please bring it back). The bartenders make a great dirty martini, and pretty much any other drink you can think of. The restaurant is mainly the bar along with a row of cozy high top booths. In the summer months they have a giant patio that is dog friendly for your furry friends! Service is always 5 stars and they treat everyone who walks in like royalty. I need to end this review before I get in my car and start driving to eight bar! Highly recommended.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Celebrated a birthday and they came out with their trademark printed menu wishing my girlfriend a happy f***ing birthday. Service was great. Was cozy inside the enclosed, heated patio. Had a wonderful time.

Yelp
Grabbed a pre-show cocktail with my friend on our way to the sold out Ali Wong show a couple of Saturdays ago. The outdoor patio space in front of Maple and Ash was perfect for people watching and enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. They were a little short staffed so the host was helping the waiters (go teamwork!) but was apologetic and very welcoming and accommodating. I liked the design of the cocktail menu with the names of cocktails following the Magic Eight Ball fortunes along the top with descriptions underneath. I tried the "Reply Hazy" which was a deliciously refreshing vodka based drink capped with a pretty orchid flower. My friend had a big dinner so I ordered the Avocado Toast which had salmon. It was a perfect snack to go with the cocktail. Our server was great and took the time to talk to us. It's a great place to grab a quick bite and drink either before or after a meal.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! The vibe is super low key but still brings an upscale element. They have a good list of wines and signature cocktails to wet your whistle so we ended up ordering a bottle of their Pinot noir. We started with the burrata appetizer, which is out of this world delicious, and then we both ended up ordering the classic steak frites...which had crazy good flavor as well. We had the best service throughout our experience here. Ivan took great care of us and really made us feel welcomed. This is quickly becoming our spot to hit up every time we come to town!
