16 Seriously Interesting Nordic Hotels

"The Eilert Smith Hotel is nothing if not unique. It’s a converted 1930s warehouse by an architect of the same name, whose early-modernist Functionalist style now stands in stark contrast to the traditional wooden houses and contemporary glass buildings that make up the rest of the cityscape. What makes it a compelling destination, though, isn’t the building so much as what’s inside: 12 quietly stylish rooms, yes, but most importantly,RE-NAA, the only restaurant in all of Norway to be awarded two MICHELIN stars." - Mark Fedeli

"Boutique hotels are just about everywhere now, but it’s still a little bit of a surprise to see Stavanger, Norway represented here. The Eilert Smith Hotel, however, is nothing if not unique. It’s a converted 1930s warehouse by an architect with whom it shares its name, whose early-modernist Functionalist style now stands in stark contrast to the traditional wooden houses and contemporary glass buildings that make up the rest of the cityscape. What makes it such a compelling destination, though, isn’t the building so much as what’s inside: 12 quietly stylish rooms, yes, but most importantly, RE-NAA, one of just two restaurants in all of Norway to be awarded three MICHELIN Stars." - Tablet Hotels

Wonderful and luxurious boutique hotel. Starting with the beautifully restored Norwegian Functionalist (Funkis) building, to the warm, personal service and excellent in-room breakfast, this well located hotel was beyond our high expectations. The generously sized room was immaculate and extremely comfortable, with a large row of windows looking over the harbour. We wouldn’t hesitate to return again. Highly recommended for the discerning traveler. Thank you, Stina, for the tour and your kind hospitality.

We stayed at the hotel for one night (but wished we could stay longer) in July and thought it was outstanding! From our check in and every time we entered and left the hotel, the service was impeccable. Our room was perfect and extremely comfortable. The location of the hotel was also ideal and very close to good shopping and dining. We wished we could’ve stayed in Stavanger and at the hotel for longer!

This is probably the best hotel we’ve ever been at. Impeccable service, fantastic breakfast, and lovely atmosphere. The rooms are so cozy yet modern. We loved everything about it. We initially booked for the restaurant but it was during their summer break - but absolutely no regret because the hotel is so worth it on its own!

We had our wedding at Eilert Smith Hotel and it was the most incredible experience. The suite is a beautiful location with panoramic views over Stavanger and top class nordic design. What really made the day special however was the Eilert Smith and Renaa teams! Stina helped us throughout the planning to make the perfect celebration, and was there on the night to ensure everything ran smoothly. Sven Eirik and Torill Renaa provided the food and service for the evening and there are not enough superlatives to describe the experience they provided. They really made us feel special and provided memories that will last a lifetime. I would 100% recommend anyone to celebrate their occasion at Eilert Smith Hotel/Renaa. Worth every penny!

This small hotel is one of the best I have stayed at. Have used it several times for business travel and it has been great every time. If I have to point to thing that keeps me coming back to this hotel, it has to be the breakfast. It is prepared by the 3 Michelin star RE-NAA restaurant, located at the ground floor, using local products. The staff serves it in your room and it tastes amazing. The perfect start to the day. Highly recommended.

The hotel is really well located and we had a wonderful, super spacious suite with a lovely view to the sea. The bed was really comfortable, all the furnishings and fittings very high quality and we loved the record player and selection of LPs and the complimentary mini bar.||The team at the hotel were very friendly, helpful and extremely accommodating and were always available to help with any request.

❤️❤️❤️ I recently stayed for a few days at that hotel and I absolutely loved it. The building is stunning, with a refined decor that combines charm and modernity, creating a very welcoming atmosphere. The comfort of the room was exceptional, making my stay even more enjoyable. The delicious breakfasts served in the room were a real treat to start the day off right. The service was perfect, with an extraordinary welcome. I want to especially thank Hanne, who greatly contributed to making my stay memorable with her attentiveness and kindness. The housekeeping staff were also extremely meticulous and caring, ensuring everything was impeccable. Overall, I highly recommend the hotel and I look forward to returning on my next visit to Stavanger!

Incredible hotel! We stayed several nights at Hotel Eilert Smith and it was one of our favorite hotel experiences we’ve ever had. The room was spacious, modern, and gorgeous, with super comfortable beds and a nice wardrobe. The bathroom was clean and well-designed. The daily breakfast delivered to our room was fantastic and robust. But best of all was the service. Every single member of the staff was kind, personable, and available for anything we needed. I hope to come back someday!
