12 Atlanta Patios for an Outdoor Drink or Two | Eater

"El Azteca is an Atlanta staple for a reason. The restaurant’s take on classic Mexican dishes like chorizo dip (cheese sauce with spicy Mexican sausage and pico de gallo served alongside flour tortillas), nachos, and tacos de carnitas is always just right. Besides the beloved dishes, the atmosphere is lively and inviting, especially on the patio. There you’ll find vibrant red umbrellas providing an ideal spot to sip a Dos-A-Rita in the summer heat." - Vox Creative

Brenda & Gabby were amazing ladies! They took great care of my friends and I. Service was quick. Food was amazing. And water was always filled! We will definitely be coming back to this location! 🩷

Google
The food here is absolutely outstanding. Their grilled chicken—whether in fajitas, nachos, or on its own—is consistently fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. That’s the main reason I keep coming back. However, the service is seriously lacking. Long waits for food, drinks, and especially the check are the norm. Don’t expect much in terms of attentiveness or speed. I come here for the taste, not the service. Food: 5 stars Service: 1 star Overall: 3 stars

El Azteca exceeded every expectation my family and I had. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and an inviting atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The staff provided outstanding service, paying attention to every detail and treating us like family throughout our visit. The food was nothing short of extraordinary. Every dish was bursting with authentic flavors, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. It was evident that a lot of care and passion goes into crafting each meal. The menu had a great variety, catering to everyone’s tastes, and every bite was an experience in itself. What made this visit truly special was how the team at El Azteca went above and beyond to ensure my family had an unforgettable time. The attention, kindness, and effort they put into their service left a lasting impression. I highly recommend El Azteca to anyone looking for a restaurant that delivers not just delicious food but also an incredible experience. It’s rare to find a place that combines amazing cuisine with such exceptional hospitality. We can’t wait to come back!

Google
Gabby and Brenda are amazing. Very friendly and superior service. I've been to other locations, but this one is the best. Customer service from everyone is beyond great and the food is fresh and delicious. I'm only eating at this location going forward!

Google
We love el Azteca! We come for the carnitas fajitas and it’s amazing. So flavorful and perfectly cooked. And their drinks are top notch! Servers and bartenders are great too.

Google
The Texas fajita quesadilla is literally the best quesadilla I’ve ever had in my life. I consider myself a quesadilla connoisseur and I have had them all over the world. None have been as good as the one I had tonight. Also Alexander was a great server!

Google
I was amazed at the expeditious customer service we received. Kevin was a chipper spirit with a great smile. Food and appetizers arrive 18 minutes tops… with a full house of guest I must add!!!! Temperature ✅ Quantity ✅Quality ✅Customer Service ✅ Cleanliness ✅ This eatery understood the assignment and we left smiling. Game Night we slid through and enjoying our dining experience

Google
Fun and lively atmosphere with an always friendly staff. Very good food and a good price. Great value overall. Love the fish tacos. My wife and I live nearby and have been coming here for years. A special shout out to our great server Isabella!

Yelp
Stopped by here Saturday evening for some good authentic Mexican food after attending an event at the Fox Theater. The food was delicious, i ordered salmon tacos, with rice and beans! My niece ordered shrimp tacos with rice and beans! We also ordered peach and guava frozen marges, so good! Maria was our server, she provided exceptional service even it took a few minutes for a server to appear. The ambiance was nice, not too crowded! Free parking and they have two outdoor patios for dining, it was cold we stayed on the inside! Great spot for authentic Mexican food!
google avatar

Yelp
The food is 4 to 5 star, the service is a 1 star at best. I've been coming here for years and have NEVER had good service. They just aren't friendly-period. Once your food is delivered, you won't see them again until YOU ask for the check!

Yelp
El Azteca is a great casual Mexican spot in Buckhead, a rare gem in the area. The restaurant is spacious with tons of seating, a large outdoor patio, and plenty of TVs, making it a perfect place for a large group. We were seated immediately, and our server was on it. He was quick, efficient, and very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and refilling our drinks promptly. We started with the bean and queso dip and each ordered burritos. The portion sizes were perfect - no need for to-go boxes as we licked our plates clean! If you're looking for a casual Mexican spot, you've found it at El Azteca.

Yelp
Good service, chips weren't my fav but salsa was good. Had the chicken chimichanga and was hot and fresh, enjoyed the queso on it as well as the sides of rice and pico.

Yelp
El Azteca!! This IS the original El Azteca that we all know and love. They have been around Atlanta for over 35 years that I can recall. My first experience was in Buckhead at the little old building on Roswell Rd. During the fun days of Buckhead we hit the Piedmont Rd location every weekend. Now 35 years later I found the Midtown location to be just as good or better than my memory serves. Midtown location is easy access from the expressway. Service is always good and the food is consistent, hot and delicious. If you're craving Mexican in Midtown this is your spot! Parking : Free parking behind the building.

Yelp
El Azteca is such a gem of a Mexican restaurant in Buckhead. They have a great food menu and a great drink menu as well. The menus for both have so many options, so you are bound to find something you love to eat and drink as well. I come here quite often with some friends after work as well as coming on the weekends too. They have a large outdoor seating area as well as your pretty standard indoor seating. They have booths and tables as well as bar seating inside the restaurant. I always get the chicken fajitas to eat when I come here. It's a huge sizzling plate, and comes with so much. I always end up eating the whole thing because it's just that good. Highly recommend El Azteca when you're in the mood for some laid-back Mexican food with some friends or even by yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
The food is always amazing and so delicious. This restaurant is very clean, colorful, and beautiful. The service can be a little better. When I enter the restaurant, no one greeted me. I waited at the hostess for a few minutes and then decided to just sit at the bar to place my to go order.
google avatar

Yelp
This use to be a favorite spot, but the employees who made the experience have left. The female bartenders are on their phones A LOT, and unfortunately don't do many tricks when making drinks (like the other bartenders did). The food is always delicious and drinks are strong, but do wish the employees interacted with the guests more at the bar... It's a part of the experience (or at least it was). Put the phones away, and maybe play a more classical variety of music overhead; not just the chick music or teeny-bopper music. Again, food and drinks are always delicious; 4/5, because the atmosphere needs some work.

Yelp
El Azteca Mexican Restaurant on Peachtree is an absolute gem! From the moment you step through the door, you're greeted with the tantalizing aroma of authentic Mexican cuisine and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The vibrant decor sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The menu is a culinary masterpiece, boasting an array of mouthwatering dishes that cater to every palate. From traditional favorites like sizzling fajitas and savory enchiladas to inventive chef specials bursting with flavor, there's something for everyone to savor. And let's not forget the drinks! Their margaritas are awesome - perfectly balanced and refreshing, they're the ideal accompaniment to any meal.

Yelp
Keep coming back to this place! They have one of my favorite frozen strawberry margaritas in the city of Atlanta. They have a small free parking lot in the back, and if that is full you can park next door and they validate your ticket for 2 hours. The free chips and salsa are delicious. I always get tacos! You can either order one flavor, comes with 3 tacos and a side of rice and beans, or order individual tacos al la carte which I prefer! They have a great outdoor patio for when the weather is nice, but also will seat people out there in the winter with heaters! Place is packed on a Friday night

Yelp
Ok so decent four on the food and the drinks are pretty legit. Def not overly authentic but if you want an American style Mexican this is a sure bet and the food is t too bad. Now the chicken version my wife got looked a little bit on the not a lot of effort but it wasn't horrible. Our server was great and came to check on us often and the weather held back for us to enjoy sitting in the back patio .

Yelp
Excellent service and food quality. A great place to meet for lunch or dinner. Great outdoor seating and the service is always very efficient. When I want to hit a Mexican Restaurant in Midtown / Buckhead area this one is at the top of that short list.
google avatar

Yelp
I don't even know where to begin with this review tbh El Azteca is one of my favorite spots in the city to get completely shit faced on giant margaritas and other ideally frozen drinks that are served in oversized mugs. The food is also incredible (ideally after swashing down 2-3 or those jumbo drinks mentioned earlier). It definitely fills a specific niche in the "budget" peachtree road / lower buckhead dining scene. Deducting one star for the general customer service. If you're not in a hurry this will fulfill your dirtiest needs. Just watch out for the bathrooms. You may get an auditory experience that's beyond comprehension.

Yelp
Oh how I love El Azteca. Hubby and I stopped in last Tuesday afternoon. We seated ourselves at the newly extended bar. Beto provided us with great service and made my fave margarita (strawberry guava) to perfection. We also ordered a skinny margarita which was delicious. I typically order shrimp & steak fajitas when I visit, but didn't have much of an appetite. I opted to order the Azteca dip and oh my goodness it was so good.

Yelp
Ridiculously expensive! A burrito is $23! A family of 4 eats for $120+ (and that's without any alcoholic drinks). Poor quality food as well. Could have enjoyed a very nice meal for 4 at a much better quality restaurant for far less.

Susan S.

Yelp
Was surprised how mediocre the food was, and expensive !! Lunch for 1 person was $27 for one entrée, side order of lettuce and tomato and an order of their small size guacamole and iced tea. The nickel and dimming they charge is ridiculous. Just charge more for the entrée rather than $3.75 for some shredded lettuce to put on your entrée. The most disappointing item was the small serving of fake guacamole "sauce" they served for $5.50. It wasn't fresh guacamole it was a liquefied mixture you would purchase in a plastic bag and pour into a small bowl. Disgusting. The Staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was a classic Mexican vibe. Wouldn't have even minded paying $27, if the food had been worth it. Very disappointing and won't be back.

Yelp
Wonderful food and we were seated immediately even though it was a busy night. Good price good quality !! Yum !!

Yelp
It's great place to grab drinks with friends and family and enjoy the complimentary chips & salsa. Food overall is decent, it's pretty basic, staple food you can find at most other similar places. Love the place for its convenience, great service, and affordability. If your looking for an affordable, simple, & fun place than definitely swing by & check it out if in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute patio. Lots of outdoor seating. They have a free parking lot but it's not that big. They do validate parking if you park next door at the Macquarium building. I got the #10 combination. The chicken in the chicken taco had no flavor. The beef taco was a bit better. The beans were eh. The rice was rice. Very average. They don't split checks. I would probably stick to just drinks here.
google avatar

Kate P.

Yelp
This place has a beautiful patio, especially in the back. I really enjoyed sitting there, enjoying the music and the people watching. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I didn't love what I ordered, though. The paloma I got to drink was super salty and the tacos just weren't great. I think the real draw here is the ambiance, not the food.
google avatar

D P.

Yelp
The food is delicious. Ambiance is fun. They have expanded to include a longer bar and 2 large patios. It can get crowded on Friday nights so call ahead. One possible issue with the women's restroom. Yuck. See sign below. .
google avatar

Ada S.

Yelp
Your typical Mexican restaurant, with loud music, good chips and friendly servers. We got a pitcher of frozen mango margarita which was really good! Our service was a little slow but no worries. Good place- bad parking! Beware you might have to park on the street.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
My wife and I have lived down the street from El Azteca for 15 years and it's our go to Mexican restaurant. In the last 2-3 years, they've made a lot of improvements by adding outdoor seating and increasing food quality. Unfortunately, service has declined during this time. The last few times we've gone for dinner, including last night, we sat for 15 minutes before anyone brought water, chips, and salsa. Our server was spread thin over too many tables and it took forever to get drinks and order food. The outdoor table was super wobbly due to an uneven patio surface and drinks were spilling everywhere. At the end of the meal, I had to go inside the restaurant to hunt down the server to get the bill. We may need to start looking for a New Mexican grill.

Yelp
On a Friday evening, summertime, let's start there. Amazing and fast fast FAST service. Food was tasty, fresh, and did I mention FAST! Place is gorgeous, inside and out. Vibe is so fun and vibrant. Suitable for all ages: grown and sexy, families, college students. Great all around.

Hunter A.

Yelp
Cheese dip is good. Good variety of margaritas. Ground beef tacos are not good. Taxco is a better spot
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
Always good food, sometimes the servers can ignore you but the price makes up for it. I will Never sit in the booths at the bar though, the bartenders will ignore you and just talk to the guest at the bar it self or just talk amongst themselves.

Sadie Holder ..

Yelp
Watched bartenders overcharge us $9 for margarita pitchers. Sat and waited for service for 45 minutes+. Asked multiple times for our waiter/ a new waiter when it was clear our initial waiter wouldn't be serving us. Thought this was a well established Mexican restaurant with long standing relationships with their customers. Left the restaurant without service and may never be coming back.

Yelp
Great food and drinks. Service was good. Ambiance was awesome. Two patios, great for large crowds. Definitely will be back

Yelp
My son and I dined at El Azteca a couple weeks ago and had a very favorable experience. It was a beautiful, warm Saturday evening so we sat outdoors on the front deck. There is ample covered outdoor seating in the front and back of the restaurant which was a large part of the reason we ate there. We were visiting Atlanta and wanted to "eat local". The general vibe was decidedly laidback which suited us to a T. We arrived at about 6:00 and, although the parking lot was full, we were seated immediately. Our server was friendly and reasonably attentive, albeit somewhat hurried. That was somewhat off putting; five years ago I might have been less accepting of that but with the state of the U.S. service industry being what it is, any time my server gets my order correct and isn't outright surly I consider it a win. The menu was pretty standard Mexican fare but with more vegetarian and seafood dishes than I typically see at Mexican restaurants. My tacos were well prepared and delivered to the table hot, as was my son's burrito. The margaritas were outstanding and a good selection of tequilas was available to customize the drink to one's liking. The prices were a bit higher than expected but given that we were a) in a big city and b) at the start of prime tourist season I probably shouldn't have been surprised. I enjoyed my dining experience at El Azteca and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone wanting a hearty Mexican meal with excellent margaritas and a great place to people watch on a warm spring/summer evening.
google avatar

Tanya J.

Yelp
The food here is great but the waiters and waitresses will add more money to the ticket later. Miriam was our waitress on a great Saturday night and although this was a great night of laughter and fun a couple of days later and a glance at my bank statement I found that Miriam the waitress had added more money to her tip by way of my friends and my bank card. Please pay attention to your receipt and take it with you because the game is if you leave your customer copy they will sign the receipt and input the tip they feel like they deserve. Thank Me later!!!!!! BTW.... We went in a week later and had to show out to get our money back and she still works there.
google avatar

Bella S.

Yelp
Subpar food due to ingredients. I've tried tacos, nachos & margaritas. I've given this restaurant 3 chances and I don't typically allow for much forgiveness when it comes to my food. The service wasn't great. I've only patronized this restaurant during the week in the afternoon. The margaritas come in various sizes which is cool. The bar wasn't clean and neither was the silverware or the bathroom for that matter. I quietly picked over my meal & left.
google avatar

Seyed W.

Yelp
Goods food and service is slightly lacking. Literally have to flag down servers to get refills. I'm literally watching a guy smoke a joint on the patio..... told a server but they don't care
google avatar

Heidi O.

Yelp
Love their outdoor seating and the vibe here. The food is always spot on, great place to go when you're looking for a very casual Mexican meal anytime of the day.
google avatar

Demoya B.

Yelp
A friend and I visited El Azteca for dinner. It was a nice night so we sat on their rear patio. We ordered some quedo with chips and a few tacos. My salmon tacos were amazing! Our server was very attentive and overall service was great. The food was very delicious. I would definitely dine there again. They has a lot of options to choose from on their menu.
google avatar

Mr. J C.

Yelp
Super fast service unbelievable but I also came during slow or non peak hous. Food is good and hot. Service super fast.
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
Came here to eat and kill time while waiting for a friend to have surgery at nearby piedmont. It's a big place, with two big patios. The chips are fresh and tasty. Unfortunately the salsa is terrible. By terrible I mean it's basically a bowl of tomatoes. I ordered the fajita burrito with charro beans. Both were delicious! The peppers and onions were charred a little from a grill which was great. The steak was tender and tasty as well. The beans were amazing! Best charro beans I have ever had. The service was great too. My only complaint is the salsa. You should probably get some cheese dip instead.

Amy R.

Yelp
The food service and ambiance was great. They work together to make sure you enjoy your food and time there.

Christy S.

Yelp
Our favorite spot to hang out with family. Friendly staff, great food! Good prices on all drinks !
google avatar

Ray I.

Yelp
Did a bit of a quick stop while waiting for our train up to the NE for the Holiday (Amtrak is just right up the street). Sat at the bar where the bartender, although absolutely slammed, was attentive and helpful. Margaritas were really good, and although we only tried the chips and salsa we get the feeling the food here would be good. Next time we have the opportunity we will definitely come by for more of a leisurely dinner.
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
I really enjoyed Al azteca! food and drinks were food and portions were huge! service was fast. will definitely go back
google avatar

Shaquanda M.

Yelp
Met my family here after my nieces birthday party. Parking was a little tight, cars were really close to one another. There was about 15 of us. I tried to call ahead to reserve tables but they do not take reservations. So once we got there it took them about 10-15 minutes to arrange seating for all of us. We ordered drinks and food and both were very good. Not one complaint about either. The waitress (I wish I remembered her name) was very very sweet. She took great care of us. The only issue was with paying because they do not do separate checks. Before we sat down the waitress explained there will only be one check but we were allowed to use multiple cards. And we were okay with that. However when it came to pay it was explained that we couldn't do different amounts on each card, everything would be split evenly. Which we didn't understand but the manager accommodated us because of the confusion. We appreciated the nice customer service from everyone. We Really enjoyed ourselves. Will defend be back.
google avatar

Diedre R.

Yelp
Still a family favorite and now that we`ve discovered the vegetable fajitas its all the more a fav. The mushrooms and pineapples are grilled to perfection Still got some strong cold margaritas and the staff is still some of the best wait staff in the Buckhead area. Been coming here for years and can`t think of one bad experience.

Tara B.

Yelp
We went here for years until we found out their health score was in the 60s! They were cited for numerous, very disturbing citations by tge health department. After many years we decided to go back as their scores did increase. But, the food was bland, they didn't get our order right and the bartenders were terrible. It wasn't Victor. Victor is great. We will never go back!
google avatar

Buddy R.

Yelp
We had a large (25 people) family birthday celebration at El Azteca on a Saturday night. They handled it perfectly. The service was excellent, the food outstanding and everyone had a great time! Some places come unglued when a large group comes in, not El Azteca.
google avatar

Aiesha C.

Yelp
El Azteca on Peachtree is a busy Restaurant, but the staff is pleasant, the food is good, and they make excellent organic margaritas I plan on revisiting this restaurant. If you go, try the organic margarita, and if you don't like a lot of sugar, ask them to make it skinny
google avatar

Yolanda W.

Yelp
Delicious. They definitely used their Covid money to expand their business. Beautiful outdoor expansion and interior reno
google avatar

Jenna B.

Yelp
Valeria + Bryan are my favorites!!! I'm obsessed they take care of me every time, could not imagine going to botica when el azteca is right around the corner!!
google avatar

Shanel S.

Yelp
I came here twice and sat at the bar and the staff is inattentive. Have to flag them down to ask them for a menu, to put in my order, for utensils, EVERYTHING! They do more talking amongst each other then seeing whether a paying customer is in need of anything. I gave 2 stars because the steak tacos were good. The rice and beans were not. Would not visit again.
google avatar

Kassandra D.

Yelp
Stopped for some margaritas because who doesn't love a frozen marg and I'm so happy we did! Great margaritas, and we got free chips and salsa!
