El Basha is a cozy, self-service Middle Eastern gem in Omaha, dishing up mouthwatering meze, shawarma, and seasonal delights.
"Fresh chopped herbs add bright flavor to almost every dish at El Basha, a homey Mediterranean spot. A falafel wrap with dill pickle and tahini is a standout, as are the house-made dips, including baba ganoush and hummus. Warming lentil soup is wonderful in the winter, and meat lovers will enjoy the kebabs and gyros." - Sarah Baker Hansen
"El Basha's creamy lebneh and warm pita. The mezza plate is a must: hummus, tabbouleh, baba ghanuje, and falafel, with pita bread. The kafta wrap is spiced ground beef, grilled on skewers, then wrapped with tahini and Turkish pickles. The lebneh is strained yogurt with olive oil and mint, and the sour purple pickles that come with everything when the right kind of turnips are in season. Both are made in-house. Almost everything on El Basha’s menu is made on site, with salads changing depending on what vegetables are in season. Ahmad Nabulsi opened the restaurant about 20 years ago with his nephew, aiming to bring to Omaha some of the foods they loved growing up in Lebanon." - ByRainbow Rowell
