El Bistro Ondarreta - Review - Antiguo - San Sebastián - The Infatuation

"The chef at Bistro Ondarreta has cooked in a bunch of the city’s coolest kitchens (like La Madame and Basqueland Izakaia), and finally opened this spot in Antiguo in 2022. This place features Gallic dishes (get the fluffy gougères to start), a bistro atmosphere with tiny tables and retro black-and-white floors, and a long, curvy bar. The lobster pasta is basically perfect, especially when it’s paired with one of the natural wines from their varied list." - Marti Buckley

Had a fun time having a dinner date here. We didn’t get a reservation but still managed to get a seat for two. Seems like they keep a few slots available for walk-in customers. Had their specials for the day - foie gras and beek cheek. It was superb! Added the comte 24m, caviar berenjena, and red wine (cranzia montana 2 full glasses each) to start. This was a perfect meal. Server even recommended how we start the meal and attended to us for every course and asked if the food was good. Definitely 👍🏼 Place was full and the acoustics made you hear half of the people in restaurant. We still had a pleasant conversation without the need to modulate.

Simple but delicious. Lobster pasta was al dente and just perfectly flavored. Lamb shoulder was tender and flavorful. Lime tart was not too sweet and delicious. Space was cozy just like a neighborhood restaurant.

Simply awesome : absolutely stunning food from start to finish. Our starters of gazpacho and tuna were fabulous and we knew that this place is something special. We followed with Lobster pasta and pork chop. Just completely delicious and spectacular dining. The dessert of Lime tart is something we’ll be talking about for a long time

This was one of the best meals we had in San Sebastián! After having plenty of pintxos, we were craving something different, and this place exceeded our expectations. We ordered the pasta with lobster and the lamb shoulder, both of which were packed with flavor. The lamb shoulder, in particular, was our favorite. The service was excellent, and the owners were incredibly friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting San Sebastián!

My wife and I dined here two times during our vacation in San Sebastián. Each visit left me thoroughly impressed. For context, we also visited several Michelin star restaurants, and several more casual restaurants. We enjoy wide range of dining experiences. Dishes we had: Hake with Lemongrass Eggplant caviar with hazelnuts Pork Tomahawk Iberico pork with mojo Burrata Tart Lobster Spaghetti White tuna crudo Green beans All were amazing. Here are some favorites: The Pork Tomahawk was a standout. Perfectly seared, the pork was incredibly tender and juicy. Served with two different mojo sauces on the side. Each bite was a delight. Also, huge serving, definitely come with a big appetite. The Grilled Octopus was another highlight. Cooked to perfection, it was tender, with a nice char. Tasted very fresh. The Iberico Pork with Mojo was equally impressive. I was tempted to order the pork tomahawk again but the chef suggested I try something else. This was delicious. The pork felt like a tender marbled steak. It was a beautiful piece of meat. I loved the Grilled Hake with Lemongrass Sauce. The hake was perfectly grilled, with a moist, flaky texture that melted in your mouth. The lemongrass sauce was a really fragrant, creamy, and citrusy. Very pronounced lemongrass flavor without being too overpowering. Tuna Crudo was fresh, light, and well balanced. Highly recommend. This is a small bistro run by a French couple. They were very friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly and the service was excellent. Try the wine too! 10/10 Hidden Gem in San Sebastián

Blended French bistro with influences from the Canary Islands. Our favorite meal so far, even after several Michelin starred restaurants. Dishes are simple, but so delicious and satisfying. Owners are so pleasant and accommodating. Just do yourself a favor and get several orders of the lobster spaghetti.

Deviled eggs, lobster pasta, gazpacho, pork pie… all phenomenal. One of the best meals we had in San Sebastián and excellent wines and cheese. All in a beautiful bistro setting. Do not miss this spot!

The food is perfect here. Nice service, chill environment. The Gazpacho is all way best! The lamb shoulder is full of flavor with cumin and curry. The mushroom risotto is so creay and delicious. Lime Tarte is also good! Will definetely come again!
