El Burrito Box

Lovely quaint little place to eat. The owners are extremely warm and welcoming. We ordered a grilled chicken and a barbecue chicken burrito. Both were freshly made and were extremely filling. Would definitely recommend New Yorkers to visit.

I have been going to this place for like 20 years. My mom, brother and I used to go almost every Saturday after my piano lessons and we were vegetarians. We always got the seitan burrito and it is to die for. It was the only place at the time that did it and the ingredients in the burrito are so good and fresh. The ratios are perfect. This place is so good that when I moved out of NY and went back for a job event, I HAD TO GO BACK AND EAT IT. Of course I ordered the seitan burrito but as I’m no longer vegetarian, I got the carnitas tacos too. Omg are the carnitas also to die for. I wished I could eat here all the time. The only con is that it’s a hole in the wall place and they’re popular so no room to really sit ever unless you camp out. Plus ordering could feel like you’re in a pack of sardines. BUT ITS WORTH IT!!! I have told all my NY friend about this place and will always make the time to stop for a visit when I’m in the NYC area.

I come here almost once a week at this point. I highly recommend the burrito, I typically get the carne asada. The beans are fantastic and you can really taste the grill on the steak. All the ratios are perfect in every bite, it never fails to hit. The quesadillas are also very good. Every order comes with chips and salsa which is amazing. 10/10 I’ll see you guys next week (maybe this week again too, we’ll see).

The very best Mexican food I had in a while. I have had the steak burrito, the chicken, steak, the pork and black bean (soft) tacos as well. Very tasty and well seasoned food. I have been eating here three times when visiting NY. Very recommendable if you want a quick bite for a very reasonable price as well.

Oh. My. YES. I rely on reviews and this burrito was so good I had to write my own. Solid, flavorful, HUGE, and delicious! I ordered in and it came so fast. I got the notification it was done and ready within 5 minutes. Definitely will be a repeat customer!

Steak quesadilla that was dry and chewy and grilled chicken nachos with artificial nacho cheese and NO refried beans for $15? Barely any toppings, the sides they give for the nachos are super tiny and not enough for all the chips you’re getting and the meat isn’t flavorful. Did I mention the artificial cheese? Once again for the price you should be giving real shredded cheese on your nachos. No idea how this place has great reviews. Stop by your local taco truck for much better food at a better price or even Taco Bell which is more flavorful than this place.

I had visited this place along time ago and was back in the neighborhood so I decided to try it out. I don’t know whether it’s the pandemic but the quality is gone, the salad were out of a jar, not freshly made, the tortilla was cheap and sticky. I got the veggie tacos and salsa chips. The tacos was so disappointing, uncooked, white tortilla with boiled vegetables inside. I kid you not, vegetables had no flavor, absolutely no seasoning, and they were just literally boiled pieces of vegetable like you would feed to a sick person. Maybe it still has a couple of good items that are hits on the menu, but this is not any of them. I do like supporting local businesses, but it’s very hard to support this one after tasting this food. Gave an extra star for price point, but they would be better off, increasing the price point and bring back some of the quality that used to be many years ago

Burrito box was good. Had the steak burrito which unfortunately the worst part was the steak which is just to say it was delicious and next time I will get a different meat. Burritos are huge! Come with side of chips and a couple salsas. Delicious. One of the better burritos in Manhattan I’ve had so far!

3.5 Went here at night and I grabbed a black bean burrito. It was pretty good for a veggie burrito! There was a variety of ingredients, but the burrito is pretty wide so sometimes it's hard to get that variety of ingredients in each bite. But honestly, it was still tasty even then. The food itself came out pretty fast (~10 mins) which was great and they were generous with how much hot sauce and salsa they gave out which was nice.

I got takeout from here. First, I appreciate that they have such a wide and clearly-marked vegetarian menu. I got the food within about 5 minutes, although it wasn't a peak meal time. The burritos are a little pricy, but they are huge and they are tasty!

Pretty decent little shop by Central Park for Mexican food. Came here around 7:30 on a Wednesday and there was an endless stream of people ordering, but enough seats in the shop to dine in. I ordered the steak burrito bowl and it was quite large. Food itself was pretty good but nothing noteworthy. They give you free salsa and chips on the side. The salsa was great but chips were a little stale.

A great spot right by Lincoln Center/Columbus square for a pretty solid burrito/taco. Ordered two Asada burritos with everything, a little pricy at $15+ per burrito, but maybe the huge portions will balance that cost for ya! The asada was really great though.... Wish they had limes and more salsa outside of the typical canned red salsa. Nonetheless, a good eat!

Appreciate the vegetarian options! I noticed all the menu items are significantly more expensive than they used to be a few years ago. Adding guac which I usually do is also $2 more. I know there's inflation, but the reason why I like coming here is bc it's so affordable. I'll still come here once in a while since the food is really great, but wouldn't count it as an "cheap/affordable eats" spot anymore.

One of my favorite burrito spots in the city. Decent sized menu with lots of options. Ingredients are super fresh and the burritos are huge! Not a ton of seating inside, but I usually bring mine home so this isn't a huge issue for me. Food comes out pretty quickly. Prices are a little on the expensive end but the food is delicious and filling and includes chips and salsa.

Good food! It's a solid 3. Loved the sour cream and packedness of the burrito. The red sauce was ok. Chips and salsa were average. But the burrito was very satisfactory and satiated my hunger. Got it to go, so can't attest to the in-store dining.

A perfectly adequate Tex Mex burrito. I had the chili con carne one, husband got carne asada -- got it to go. The burritos are very heavy on the rice and beans, which is fine; quite light on the lettuce, tomato, sour cream, cheese -- also fine. That said, the amount of rice and beans in there makes these pretty mushy, and it was more of a knife-and-fork meal than a burrito should be. Flavor was alright in mine. Came with chips and salsa, which weren't great -- I guess you get what you pay for, or something. All in all, a decent filling meal, but nothing I'd go out of my way to get. No better and no worse than any of the other Mexican-ish restaurants in the neighborhood.

One of our favorite go to burritos spot in the world, the perfect San Francisco style burritos in Hells Kitchen Nyc. The food is excellent, try the portobello mushroom burrito with black beans, rice and quac. The service is good, efficient for a place doing a lot of volume. This is basically a takeout joint with a few counters to eat at. Good home made chips and Mexican sodas. No ambiance but this is a take out restaurant. One of our favorite Lincoln Center neighborhood places.

Sometimes there are just some things that you need to hit the spot calories be damned! I don't know why I haven't gotten food from here before but I'm very glad I did today. I had a chili burrito that was bigger than both of my fists put together and it was good. Delivery was pretty quick. I am absolutely ordering from here again because it made me happy.

Best spot for a quick takeout lunch. One of the tastiest burritos I've ever had. Service is always quick and orders always come with a free side of chips.

What can I say? The reviews are terrible on Yelp but on Google and Trip Advisory it was amazing. It is very small but efficient. They do not upcharge for anything. Eveything was delicious. Quick very tasty and would definitely recommend

I love El Burrito Box, it's a staple! The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. They can have somewhat long wait times from time to time, but it's worth the wait. I love their burrito bowls and burritos.

Decided to check this place out since there's always a line. I ordered the tacos, which were basically two mini burritos. Food was decent but it was missing that Mexican kick.

Solid neighborhood spot for a quick bite when I'm in the mood for a burrito. The Grilled Chicken Burrito is my go-to, but Grilled Steak and Carnitas are also pretty good. The side of chips and salsa is top tier and I often get an additional order of it to go with my meal. The salsa is a bit spicy, but it's not too overwhelming. Portions and prices are reasonable all things considered.

Great no-frills kinda spot for a quick bite. Have picked up and had delivery from here multiple times. You know exactly what you're gonna get (consistently good) and always hits the mark when craving simple mexican. Pretty great value for the price as well, especially when compared to known places/chains that serve similar food. Regardless if you need spicy or just flavorful, you can adjust for either or both.

Wow - we're from CA/TX and know Mexican food. Not sure what took us so long to come here! The burritos are like mini pillows stuffed w rice, veggies, beans, cheese and a protein of your choice. Could easily be two meals. Even comes w chips / salsa! I did the portobello and the boy chicken - can't wait to try the seitan and tofu. There's usually a wait during busy meal hours so be patient but they're fast!

This is one of my favorite spots to grab a quick bite. I had a grilled portobello burrito, and I loved the bold flavor. The prices were reasonable, and service was quick.

I tried the grilled chicken burrito and thought it was OK -- wished there was more flavor and more topping options. They have a variety of meats to choose from, so I would give this place another try and pick a different option. The takeout order came with chips&salsa which was nice.

This place is not worth the price tag . Steak Burrito was 17$ !!! It was wayy to much rice, and beans . Barely any meat and no Sourceam and no green sauce. How are you charging this much for a freakin burrito and not including these things. 2 out of 10 .. Do NOT recommend . Chipotle is wayyy better . Dont waste your time

For me, a stop at Burrito Box is like visiting an old, longtime friend; perhaps it's been awhile, perhaps you even totally lost touch, but once you get back together, it's effortless to pick up right where you left off. Nothing but nostalgia and love. I had countless meals here when I used to waitress within walking distance. It always had good, wholesome, and filling food with delicious, fresh ingredients - and at a lower price pour that's atypical of many Manhattan eateries. Something about the unassuming, tiny, almost-walk-right-by-without-noticing-it space with only a couple of small tables and super limited counter space is actually a charming part of the whole experience. Back in the day, it was the whole ritual of it: scanning for a table that might be freeing up by the time our orders would be ready. Taking farrrrr too many of their (absolutely delicious!) house-made salsa ramekins and dipping into them with still-warm, crispy tortilla chips while waiting for our food. Hearing Latin music while sipping on a bottle of Jarritos. Having the best conversation over an enormous, overstuffed burrito. And sometimes, having to sit on the sidewalk because you couldn't score a seat, but hardly minding because your belly was happy from a tasty, warm meal. For all these reasons and more, Burrito Box has a special place in my heart. Early on in the pandemic, after seeing FAR too many small business shut their doors, I randomly wondered if they were still alive and well. At first, they were closed. But a couple of months later, I was delighted to learn they were back up and running! Hooray! Things may be (understandably) different now in the age of Covid: you're not scrambling to get the next available table (because the entry is closed off altogether), and the chips and salsa are not out on the counter for take-as-you-please portions (hello, germs). They are now, for the time being, a mainly takeout operation during the pandemic, along with two small tables for outdoor dining on the sidewalk. But one thing still rings true: my first BB burrito in many years was as wonderfully flavorful as I remembered. And while the world feels full of negativity and uncertainty in 2020, the comfort and familiarity of a longtime favorite meal goes a very long way. Brownie points: I told one staff member how much I used to love indulging in their salsa while awaiting my order, and he thoughtfully packed me some extra sides of it. The tostadas and burritos have always been my trusty go-to's, but you really can't go wrong here. Anything with the chicken ranchero is my personal favorite. Food is highly customizable, so if you have a specific request, just ask and they are usually kind enough to oblige. My mom, who is a vegetarian, really enjoyed her takeout meal here as well. Will return again and again!

Love burrito box. Quick, fast affordable, and delicious food. No inside seating due to covid. Place is convenient to Columbus Circle and the trains. This place is always pack.

Loved my organic seitan burrito! And the fact that you get a little bag of chips with salsa rounds out a delicious and filling meal. There are a few stools so you can conceivably eat there but it seems to get crowded with pickups, etc. service was great and food came out in a timely manner. Had several vegetarian options. (See menu.) Had never been before but will return.

This place is kind of a hole in the wall but they make really good burritos. Delivery is easy from here, it never takes long to get my food. I really like the chicken burrito and have tried a couple quesadillas as well. Definitely not a nice sit down place but great for take out.

Ordered a chicken Quesadilla. It was ok, nothing special. But a few hours later, my stomach was turning. Felt like I had good poisoning.. it was the only thing I ate and I'm 100% sure it came from burrito box. Never again

If you're in the market for a massive burrito, with great taste and great price this is the place to go. I've only tried the vegetarian burritos (seitan, tofu and grilled portobello) and they've all been amazing but the seitan one is definitely the best of the 3. It's extremely well seasoned and tasty and they definitely don't skimp on the portions (it's not all just rice and beans). They also give you a small bag of chips, salsa, and hot sauce. This can easily be 2 medium sized meals or a massive meal. I liked it so much that I went two times in 2 days! I'm counting down the days to go back. As for seating- there's a few bar stool type seating so i'd suggest to eat to take it to go or go to the park on 57th and 9th.

A hole in the wall burrito shop that is worth stopping into. Went on a Friday night early to pick up and the place was already quite busy. They have a quick turnaround time between ordering and getting your food. The burritos came with lots of salsa and some chips too. We were both impressed with the size of each burrito and they were really delicious. They had flavor without being too salty. Vegan options too if you take out the cheese and cream from the vegetarian listed items. You get what you expect when you order which I like when many places try to be fancy and add random things. Pricing is nice too starting around $12.25 for one. I will definitely come back for another easy takeaway meal that's filling, quick, and not too greasy.

My go to burrito spot in Hell's Kitchen...it also doesn't hurt that it's only a couple blocks from where I live. The burritos here are huge and delicious. I always get delivery in which they always include hot chips and fresh salsa. My favorite is the bbq chicken burrito. The chicken has tremendous flavor and sweetness just to my liking. The storefront itself is a little small but you can enjoy as much chips and salsa as you'd like if you sit in. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a low key burrito joint!

I love the whole in the wall type feel of restaurants, and this was totally it. You walk up, and you just order right at the door, probably this way due to COVID, but regardless the food was amazing. I ordered a steak bowl, and OMG! I could taste the steak was grilled, and I love grilled food! The blend of everything was the right amount, not too much of one specific thing like some burrito bowls. My bowl consisted of: Mexican rice, black beans, shredded cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream. I definitely recommend them and will be eating there again before I leave.

Stumbled upon the Burrito Box tonight. Looked like a hole in the wall spot, was decently busy the entire time we ate there. I got the veggie tacos which had carrots and broccoli in it (strange) but the tacos were a decent size and packed with vegetables. It came with a side of chips too and tons of hot sauce and salsa options. Nachos with beans and cheese were good, it was loaded with like 3 different types of cheese. Not quite up there with LA tacos in my opinion, but I thought it was decent overall.

Good for a quick bite to eat at a reasonable price. Definitely lots of foot traffic so the food has a quick turn over rate.

Beware if you don't eat dairy products- they added dairy sour cream to my burrito even though I clearly told them "no dairy, tofu sour cream." They list that they have vegan options but will give you something you can't eat even when you are clear that you can't eat something.

Visited the Burrito Box on 9th on a weekday for lunch. I ordered online and went to pick it up- it was ready in a flat 15 minutes. We got a chicken burrito and a steak burrito, plus a side of cheese dip. Burritos came with sour cream, tomato, rice, beans and an acceptable amount of grilled steak or chicken. The burritos were so hefty that they were 2 meals instead of one (making the $14.50 price even better). The cheese dip was the basic velveeta kind but for $2 it comes with a small bag of chips and is the right amount if you're not sharing, or if you're just using it as burrito topping. The meal came with containers of salsa and hot sauce (tabasco/ vinegar based variety). It's a good value and good flavor for a quick and reliable lunch! Will return.

After my visit at Mr sinai I tried this spot and got the carne asada burrito was just okay. I'll try the chicken next time. I should mention I'm from California and still have yet to find a good burrito here.

This place is good. I always get a burrito, Only problem I have is that they barley put any lettuce and cheese in the burritos. I love the nachos too. I always come back here though.

WARNING: DO NOT PAY WITH DEBIT/ CREDIT CARD! ********* I made a yelp account purely to make this review as a WARNING to potential customers. I came here thinking I was going to get a quick and relatively cheap bite to eat. The menu stated a chicken burrito costs 12 dollars, so I ordered that along with a side of guacamole. While waiting to order, the employee at the register was on his phone, and asked me in a seemingly rude tone if I was ready to order- meanwhile I was waiting for him. During my interaction with him he seemed very angry and impolite for his job (interacting with customers) When he passed me the receipt I decided not to tip because of the surprising up charge on the receipt and his rude mannerism. ***********READ 2 days later: I check my bank statement and I was charged 38.50$... I didn't not save my receipt (which stated a charge of 17$) not expecting this outstanding charge and am very disappointed. If you decide to come here which I don't recommend as the food was subpar- (A chipotle burrito would have been just as good if not better)- DO NOT pay with DEBIT/CREDIT CARDGrilled Chicken Burrito

This place has great prices especially for takeout! Ordered here after seeing the positive reviews and it did not disappoint! The chicken and steak quesadillas were flavorful and I appreciate that they include all the fixins (sour cream, guac, two kinds of salsas, and pico). Can see this place being a frequent order place for sure

I think the burritos are decent in terms of flavor (although I have high standards coming from CA) but I disagree with a lot of the other Yelpers who say they're massive. I think they're just about one person's worth of food (maybe a little less if you're a big eater). I'd prob come back out of convenience though if I needed a quick meal in the area.

Alright yelper, pull up a chair, pour ya'self a drank and lemme tell you about the best burrito I've ever had. This shit to quote a bestie of mine, is about to blow your mind. Went with the Seiten burrito with regular cheese and sour cream and hot sauce. Which I believe they make themselves and it is phenomenal. This burrito was massive and when the owner, yea the owner who is one of the most humble guys I've ever met, put it down in front of me and this thing is huge. I've never been more aroused from a burrito before. After chatting with owner dude( I should have asked his name) we get our food and head outside to eat in the little park. Guys I was so excited for this burrito that I didn't even get a good first phone but this thing is everything you've ever wanted from a burrito. Perfectly cooked rice, well seasoned, Seiten on point. Just enough sour cream(not usually a sour cream fan but this amazing) cheese and amazing hot sauce. Chips and salsa were awesome also. This place absolutely slaps and needs to be on everyone's lists. So good.

As good as it gets when it comes to Tex-Mex in NY! Its been a while since my first review and its about that time! The Roasted Pork Carnitas burrito is all I've been ordering lately and its amazing. The burrito itself is huge, like the size of a small child huge. The fillings are authentic with the pork being tender and flavorful. The prices here are on par with the size of the portions and do be prepared to wait a little after ordering. This isn't fast food taco bell. Its handmade goodness and good food isn't fast! All orders come with free chips and salsa which a plus and there's sort of unlimited chips while you wait for your order. There's not much for me to add here. Its straight forward food and its done right. I'd highly recommend this place if you're in the area and crave Tex-Mex!

Awesome burritos I got the bbq chicken burrito all ingredients tasted great. Took it to go it came with a small chips and salsa. I cut open the burrito and ate it with a fork sorry I know that's wild but I ended up putting crumbled chips inside the burrito re wrapped it and the rest like that it was awesome that thing got devoured. Fast service also
