Not really a big fan of truck food, I have too many bad memories of working construction in my early 20s of eating off trucks. But my friend swore by this place and has talked it up numerous times. Came by here on Sunday afternoon and the place was absolutely packed. They set up a nice easy-up and some plastic tables for you sit down in the shade. There was nowhere to sit when we arrived, but luckily some spots opened up when our food was finally ready.
The El Cacho food truck specializes mostly in seafood choices but also caters to red meat eaters with a few choices with New York steak and arrachera meat. For seafood they have ceviche, shrimp, fish and octopus. I'm not too adventurous when it comes to seafood but I love myself a battered fish taco. So I ended up ordering 3 fish tacos and 1 rosarito taco which comes with arrachera and on a flour tortilla.
The tacos here are massive, it says street tacos on the side of the truck, but these things are way bigger than your average street taco. The taco Ensenda came with a large piece of fried battered fish, topped with cabbage, tomatoes and some of their tasty creme sauce. The corn tortillas tasted fresh, even though I'm almost certain they don't make them there. The fish was crispy and perfectly cooked, there wasn't too much batter on the outside like a lot of places do. The Rosarito taco with a flour tortillas had chunks of seasoned arrachera meat, diced tomatoes, cilantro and a generous portion of fresh guac. The meat it's self was flavorful, not dry and there was plenty of it. They took the time to crisp the outside of the flour tortilla.
So four tacos was quite the lunch, it definitely filled me up and for okay prices, average taco is about four bucks. They offer a good variety of drinks including agua frescas, liter Mexican cokes and cans of soft drinks. The hot sauce is kept up in the fridge towards the front, I highly suggest grabbing a bunch of this stuff, it was very good and they ran out when I was there. I was quite impressed with the quality of food here and the meal, my friend picked a winner.
