El Capataz delivered one of those meals that hits every note just right. I ordered the salmon with nopales and elote, and the combination was incredible—the salmon was cooked beautifully, the nopales added that bright, earthy bite, and the elote brought in a creamy, smoky sweetness that tied everything together. Every forkful felt like a little celebration. My friend went for the burger, and judging by her expressions and happy‑murmurs across the table, it was just as impressive. Big flavor, great texture, and clearly made with care. Overall, it was a full‑on foodgasm experience—bold flavors, thoughtful dishes, and a place that knows how to make a meal feel special. If you are looking for a restaurant bar with both indoor and outdoor dining and excellent customer service then El Capataz is a perfect choice. Food, drinks, and service at this restaurant is excellent. I highly recommend having their delicious papas cargadas and tamarindo flavored buffalo wings. This place is pretty popular so wait time is expected especially on the weekend evening time. Ambience is nice but could be a bit loud due to the popularity of the place. Also note that parking area could be a bit crowded but the restaurant offers more parking places on the backside. Bar side dining and drinking is available in case you are coming in alone and don’t mind making acquaintances while visiting. I highly recommend this restaurant for date night or for special occasions.

This place is a MUST TRY! we ordered the prime rib cocktail, the queso something lol I can’t remember the name, the fish and chips , and the ceviche and everything was amazing! ALSO icela, our server—she was amazing. Her service was EXCELLENT! The manager on shift this night as well, I didn’t catch his name he also had amazing customer service. If I ever come back to Laredo I will be coming back here

Love the food. This is actually one of the nicest restaurant in Laredo. Aside from the scrumptious food, excellent service and chill ambiance, the price is very reasonable and worth it. Must try and a good place to take your friends and family for a semiFormal meal. We ordered the burger and the appetizer with 2 sodas and paid $40++. My husband and I went back to this place. I just added new pictures on what we ordered. Fish tacos were okay, not my favorite. But it wasn’t bad. Then we ordered the Peruvian chicken, that was delicious and came with fries. And for the appetizer, we ordered the one with the goat cheese. That was my favorite!! A must try! We paid $73 including 2 drinks and a small side of fries.

Here’s the breakdown: • Fries 🍟: Totally disappointing—soft, lacking crispiness, and unremarkable. • Chicken 🍗: Just okay. Definitely not what I’d expect from Peruvian roasted chicken—missing that signature spice and depth of flavor. • White Beans 🫘: Standard, nothing special. They were cooked fine, but they didn’t stand out. • Margarita 🍹: Absolutely fantastic! The perfect balance of tart and sweet with just the right kick. • Service 😊: Excellent! The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the experience much better. Overall, while the food was hit-or-miss, the great service and killer margarita made up for it. Would I come back? Maybe—for drinks, but not for the fries. ⭐⭐⭐/5.

The food is good I tried many dishes there so yes I recommend it. My favorite is the fish tacos. Probably the best in Laredo. The atmosphere is also very good looking clean look not to saturated just some good decor. The only downside is space is limited so seating is difficult to get seated due to tables being made for parties of 3 or more. If 2 people come you can but during peak hours you probably have to wait or leave since priority is for greater parties. But iam sure during week seats are open. But overall it's a great place to eat and drink.

Favorite dinner spot in Laredo. I'm halfway through the menu and everything l've had has been on point! The gentleman behind the bar not only knows his drinks but can easily advise someone who is unsure of their appetite. I hold a pretty high bar when it comes to dining out, and it’s not very often that I find a place like this that meets and exceeds my standards. Whoever is running this place knows exactly what they're doing and it's much appreciated. The ambiance gives you a fancy dining experience while still feeling like a relaxed social environment. The entire staff is impeccable. I can't wait for my next dish as I venture through the menu. Thanks again!

Very nice place, especially for Laredo. Has very good food and Laura, Adrian, bold guy (I think Jerry) are nice bartenders; always trying to make customers happy. I miss Adrian and hope that he returns soon. Fish tacos and prime rib are a very good option.

The place itself has a modern Spanish twist on the decor inside. The ambiance is very chill and can be both a popping hang out place or nice date night. The man with salt and pepper hair that I would assume was the manager was very funny and helpful. The waitress was polite and charming as well and had a few jokes as well. Overall the service part was very pleasant and is what would make me come back. The drinks were different but both nicely balanced and tasty. The food was somewhat of a miss as the protein seemed to have been a little over cooked but the sides and everything else was very delicious. The salmon, prime rib, and burger patty were all a bit over cooked. The salmon was a bit on the dry side for being blackened, the prime rib seemed to be over cooked or was either from day before or left over, and the burger patty after being asked for medium well was well done with no slight pink to be found. Those were the only misses in my opinion but everything else was great. They had run out of wings which I wanted to try but definitely worth trying if you have a chance. Cantarito shandy great balance and if you like grapefruit you'll love this drink. El canton the ginger and pineapple gave a banana type flavor but it was nicely balanced. Prime rib cocktail- great flavor from beer stewed vegetables. Beautiful balanced and got better with every bite, however the prime rib was over cooked and a bit tough. Almost tasted like prime rib used from day before or left over. Coconut blackened salmon - salmon a bit on dry side but the rice and plantain was on point. El capataz burger patty was well but the chorizo with mushrooms and cheese paired nicely.

First time here~travelled to TAMIU from Houston- Noticed it's an appetizer and drink place- ceviche was perfect with a hint of picante, DELICIOUS 1/2 lb burger! Had a non-alcoholic drink...not bad at all! Excellent service

Great restaurant and bar the food is great, especially the fish tacos and the salmon, I recommend every item on the menu and also the local beer!!

Had a wonderful dinner at El Capataz when visiting Laredo, Tx recently. The menu is not extensive but it seems that every menu item is prepared to perfection! The staff was helpful, knowledgeable and attentive! I was in a party of 6 and everyone had something different. Not a single negative comment! I highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

I came to the restaurant to order Togo food from the neighboring hotel I'm staying at. I walked in with over 20mins till the restaurant was to close but was turned away. There was 2 guest at the bar and several active tables. I told the staff behind the bar that it shows the restaurant doesn't close for another 20mins and didn't understand why I couldn't order. I was told there's another restaurant to the right. I'm now at the other restaurant next door waiting for Togo food. As an owner of a sports bar and grill I would fire the staff that turned my customers away and sent them to a competitor less than 50yds away. BTW both places close at the same time. Now headed to my hotel with food in hand. Pass this place and go to the grill next door.

Ambience is fun and relaxed. Food selections are awesome!! And service is impeccable! I highly recommend this restaurant for your next casual outing!!

Located near several hotels within Laredo Airport. Indoor and Outdoor dining are available along with a full bar setup. Menu prices are definitely a bit high, but most items like the starters can easily be an entree with leftovers. They proudly serve Mexican and Latin American favorites.

Great ambiance. Beer selection on draft is always interesting. Food is great. Menu has not changed in over a decade, or at least not very much. But what they do have is done well. The tamarind wings are fantastic as are the fries. Great spot.

This is a staple when we visit our friends in Laredo (a few times a year). The staff are always friendly. The drinks are wonderful. Particularly their seasonal options. Same for the food. It's excellent. Always perfectly cooked. Flavorful. Timely. Even during covid when we did a pick up the food quality didn't suffer one bit. The pick up process was simple and safe. It was ready in the time quoted. And all the food was as good as if we ate at the restaurant. Recommendations: the chicken wings, loaded French fries (can't remember the exact name but it's on the appetizer), and fish and chips.

Service was really good but I ended up getting food poisoning. There old fashioned literally needs to be just old fashion. Don't add pepper to an old fashioned drink. But watch what you eat. Will not be going back anytime soon. Like it was not what we want.

The prime rib is exceptional. Simply Delicious! Nice selection of craft beer and wine. Service was top notch.

Just stopped by for dinner and had a delicious 13oz, 3 hour prime rib with a veggie side & horseradish sour cream sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly and I absolutely loved it! Danny at the bar took great care of me and was very friendly. Prices were not bad for the quality I received. Definitely recommend this spot!

Great bartenders. Nice bar leather on steal bar stools/chairs cause they are not wobbly. Portions of food are big. I usually get there burger or the fence fry dish. One of the few places In Laredo that feels like a city dine in place.

Excellent food and service! A little confusing on the maps app - call them if it's dark outside and you are lost! They are super friendly and helpful! My friend and I headed here after a long workday. We needed to find a place that would be open after 9pm and this place is open until 11pm on weeknights! We previewed the menu before coming in and knew exactly what we wanted to order before we even sat down. The chef came out and greeted us and made us feel welcome. We ordered the shrimp meatballs and were completely enamored with them. For dinner I had the fish on mashed chickpeas and peas with a side of fresh veggies (squash and zucchini). My friend ordered the burger and fries. We were two happy campers as we finally made our way home after a delicious and satisfying meal.

So, my husband and I are still going here and it's been years! We love this place. The atmosphere, the waitstaff, the bartender, the cooks, the manager. This restaurant is awesome. We were just there on Saturday to celebrate Mother's Day. We had the Pan Tomate, mollejas, seafood paella, and a bottle of wine recommended by our fantastic, friendly waiter. I will always love this place and it will forever be one of our date night spots. If you have not tried it, you are truly missing out.

Not much to select on the menu and they removed the vegan burger! They need to add more on the menu and vegan friendly too!

This place was busy but they were able to get us seating fairly quick. Fish tacos were good, cabbage was sliced to perfection. The mussels to me were the star of the show. The burger is a great deal at $13. Great place to take a date or hang out with some friends. Parking is adequate. Customer service can be a little slow, especially during peak hours but the food is worth the wait. My friend got the Peruvian chicken and I would also recommend that as well.

Had a delicious spinach salad with ith grilled shrimp. Very fresh. Shrimp was a sty and moist. Staff were great, welcoming, helpful. I go back again!

When on the border and looking for something a little different, a little inexpensive in a good way and a whole lot of flavor try anything here! And the service is always impeccable. Not only is the food spectacular, I think I've just had the best service I've ever had! Ivy is amazing at her job! Food comes out quickly, efficiently and is delicious! And I was more than catered to even though I was sitting alone! Well done!

Genuinely good for Laredo. I've been in a few times, but hadn't previously written a review. The setting is western bar meets gastropub, and the ambience is buzzing and warm. The staff are friendly and competent, a definite plus. I stopped in last week and had a great on-tap wheat beer, a fun mandarin orange and shrimp ceviche, and a chorizo burger. The beer and ceviche were good, but the burger fell flat. It tasted and felt like a frozen patty, with the soulless texture to boot. At El Capataz's price point and quality, this should be a hand-made fresh patty. Stick to the prime rib--I've had much better luck there.

We arrived late on a Wednesday evening to get dinner and drinks with my girlfriends family. Upon arriving we were greeted by the hostess and directed to the bar to endure the 45 min wait. We were immediately welcomed by the bartender and ordered a round of drinks. Before we could even look around for more bar stools to accommodate 6 of us, the manager quickly arranged a booth for us. This cut our wait time down to under 10 min! We order a few appetizers with were served in generous portions. We moved on to order entrees which also came our with great presentation and in a timely manner. Drinks were great, food was great, atmosphere and staff overdelivered on every occasion. They even had a couple vegetarian options for us herbivores. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend and I will be coming back next time I am in town.

My first time here. Seated quickly. Waited quite a while before a waitress came by to take my drink order. Ordered my meal at the same time as I had time to decide. Nice inside. Ordered the prime rib and a beer. Waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about their craft beers. Food came quickly, directly from the kitchen bypassing waitress. She did check by shortly after food arrived. I have to say, the prime rib was savory and spiced with just the right blend of flavors Seasoned fries came with this. They were very good, obviously fresh cut ( not frozen) real potatoes. I will definitely come back to try something else on their menu.

I decided to try a local place and I am glad I did. I arrived early on a Weds evening so no problem getting a seat. Nice atmosphere music but it's not too loud. I ordered the prime rib it came right away. Did I mention the service was great, too. This place was a great choice. Lucky me!

Let's be honest. People don't flock to a city like Laredo for the cuisine. No, people are in Laredo for other reasons, and my reason for being there is always work related. That said, El Capataz is a solid choice for Mexican-inspired seafood and other tasty options while dining in the "largest inland port in the U.S." El Capataz is a bit of an oddity. Part sports bar, part tequila bar, and part restaurant, you can go in expecting a halfway decent selection of draft beer and tequilas to choose from. The menu consists of two sides of a laminated card (presumably for easy wiping from encounters with said beverages), but don't let that dissuade you. My tablemate and I tried the ceviche, as well as the "Corvina Valenciana" (drum fish) and the fish tacos. Yeah, we're seafood people apparently. The ceviche was good, although it was shrimp-based instead of fish-based, which we didn't expect. It didn't matter, the ceviche was delicious. The fish tacos and the Corvina were also excellent, and I was excited to get so much good seafood in this "inland port" city. Service was good and attentive, if a bit slow--but I've noticed that is typical for border towns, so I'm not holding any grudges. I will say, however, that El Capataz is loud, and with TVs plastered all over the walls, I felt a bit odd paying $14 per entre in Laredo in what really sort of felt like a sports bar. A couple other notes on the Yelp listing. 1) While listed as "dressy," this place definitely isn't, at least by any normal standards (that's a good thing). 2) El Capataz is NOT open 24/7 (I think they closed around 11p on the Tuesday I was there). My bottom line: When in Laredo, try the seafood, tequila, and beer; and try them at El Capataz.

This is a bar restaurant. It seems new. Friendly wait staff. Full menu of appetizers and drinks. Had dinner here a few days ago. I ordered the fish tacos. The fish is fried, which was Not that great. Service was 4 star. Will return someday.

Supposedly updated interior - cute and cool vibe. We shared two appetizers (warm goat cheese and baguette slices and the fish tacos with the house salsa)...and I had a glass of their Chardonnay - tasty. I'm definitely going back the next time we pass through Laredo!

This was a great find! The food was delicious, and the service was exceptional! The Coconut Blackened Salmon had amazing flavor and was so tasty! I would definitely come back if I'm ever in the area.

Passing through for work, was recommended by a friend to come here, due to proximity to the hotel. My friend and i sat at the bar, bartender Stephanie couldn't be more sweet, attentive or amazing at her job. Unfortunately we sat next to two locals who were intent on being miserable to all the staff. Again, Stephanie was most gracious, as was the manager who stopped by to diffuse a situation that was completely made up in these other guests minds. Fantastic vibe, food and service. Well done everyone!

Being from Fort Worth Dallas area, our expectations were not very high . But we were completely surprised!!! We will dine here again!! Excellent! From the Appetizer of Queso Borracho to the Prime Rib that my husband enjoyed! I had the El Capataz burger, have to say it was one of the best Ive ever eaten! I went to Culinary School and all I can say is Complements to the Chef! When you can send Out Burgers along with prime rib and they are both excellent as well as the appetizers that's saying something!! The in-house Margaritas and the craft beers were as excellent as well!! Fantastic service fantastic Bartenders all I can say is this is definitely a five star restaurant!!

Although small selection menu it's good tasting food. Everything from tacos to shrimp to good cocktails. Their shrimp albóndigas and shrimp dish off their appetizer menu are delicious!! Happy hour at this place can never go wrong. The fries here are the BEST FRIES IN TOWN AND BEST FRIES IVE EVER TASTED!!!! Pictures coming soon. Margaritas not the best, way too sour. I'm the margarita connoisseur and this place will disappoint if margaritas are your poison like me. Any other cocktail is fresh and delicious!

Hubbys salmon was good but the green beans were cold. Had a really good cold taste. I had panko cod. Didn't like it or the sauce served with it. Asked our server for a different sauce and she charged me a dollar for ranch. Lol. The place was nice enough but our server was not the least bit interested in us.

Haven't had the chance to come back (and won't be able to anymore), but the owner took the time to reach out and apologized, and of course, invited me back. If life brings me back, I will absolutely visit.

Great atmosphere, top notch service, and good food. They have a huge selection of tequilas, and a great beer selection as well. Only open for dinner so get there early it fills up fast.

This place had all the right elements: good staff, reasonable prices, and great food! I had the fish tacos, best I have EVER had. The staff were quick and super friendly. My only complaint is that the restroom had no purse hook, which is fixed easily enough ;-) Probably the best place I have been to in Laredo. Loved it!

The wait at the door without acknowledgement should've been a clue. We gave them the benefit of the doubt. Proceeded to the bar after being told of a 15-20 min wait. Bartender and bar back looked at us several times in the literally 15 min we sat there with no menu, no drink order taken without even a nod. FAIL! We actually went next door and ended up having an unbelievable dinner! If your reading this go 500 ft left of this front door! Thanks for the response but I can definitely tell time and understand whether or not I have a menu. Obviously you have more than several that were overlooked recently as I did not mention to you what day we were there. Nice try but ironically, I'm the one being honest.

Excellent food and drinks. The fish tacos are awesome. On a recent get away to California I tried to find fish tacos better than this and didn't find anything close to el Capataz fish tacos. The cucumber martini was excellent as well. The goat cheese with marinara sauce was creamy and tart. Wash it down with some red wine and you can't go wrong. Excellent restaurant in Laredo. I'm impressed!
