The 15 Best Wine Bars In Los Angeles - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Amid the protected bike lanes, baby strollers, and other telltale signs of gentrification on the stretch of Venice Blvd between Mar Vista and Venice, El Chucho stands out as being pretty cool. The space (formerly La Potranca) had been a neighborhood dive for years, serving cheap beer and screening soccer for Spanish speakers stopping somewhere before heading home from work. The new owners have kept the pool table, soccer, crass posters, and cheap beer. And they’ve also added natural wine, vinyl DJ sets, and given the bathroom a deep clean. El Chucho is a total scene on weekends (in case you need to wait in a line to feel something). On weeknights, it’s a tame spot for a catch-up." - brant cox, arden shore, sylvio martins

The 18 Best Bars For Singles In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"El Chucho is one of the best places on the Westside to meet people whose names you'll forget mid-conversation. A cross between a divey pool hall and a natural wine bar, this sceney spot doubles as the neighborhood clubhouse of Venice/Mar Vista, and it’s usually filled with folks who really want you to know they flew to Miami for Art Basel. A solid lineup of rotating vinyl DJs spin records Thursday through Saturday nights, so you might have to wait to get inside. But there’s a good chance you can infiltrate a new friend group while standing in line." - brant cox, nikko duren, sylvio martins

Google
I go here with my friends from time to time if we want to get drinks in the neighborhood. It’s definitely known for its wine, which compared to other wine bars in LA this place is reasonably priced. The bartenders always give great recommendations and often let you try it before committing to a bottle. The biggest complaint is that the music was way too loud inside. I don’t know what the strategy is but you can’t even hear your own thoughts. The patio is great, but definitely get there early because it gets packed.

Okay so there is only beers, wine, and hard kombuchas available (with a selection of unalcoholic drinks as well and soda) so there aren’t any cocktails or spirits. However, this works ??? Somehow it elevates the atmosphere, the wine with the beer it’s just the essentials. The DJ they brought in was so GOOD, (DJ Barrett). The bartenders are so nice, at one point the diva was left alone behind the bar but she was killing it. She was so nice regardless of how many people were waiting for their drinks, she deserves a raise I love her. The prices are decent compared to other LA bars I’ve been to. Overall a good bar to pre game and hang out and have a smoke.

The bartender charge me a lot more without my consent (she put the highest tip I assume). I order 5 beers for me and my friends, she brought the card reader closer to me without showing me the total until I check it in my bank account. This Is a complete lack of respect for the consumer.

Fun bar to hang out with friends. Security guard is cute.

Google
What a fun place! My buddy told me about this spot and it is really an enjoyable environment. Cool place, cool brews, cool crowd. The only feedback I have for the business is that volume is not a substitute for quality when it comes to music. The music was significantly overamplified, and while palatable, lacked discernment and seemed a bit random. Otherwise, though, it was a fun place to party.

Google
Do you like natural wine? Cool, you’re used to paying 15-17 a glass for that. Cute spot, great wine, super chill dive vibe. Seats are def limited so don’t get grumpy if you don’t have somewhere to sit. There’s 1 pool table which seems to be in good use.

Google
I love this place! Great wine & dive bar vibes. Honestly, Caitlin makes this entire experience. She is so empathetic, warm and friendly that she draws the most incredible crowd. 🫶

Yelp
When I think dive bar I automatically think of this place and I mean that in the most endearing way possible. One of my friends was djing and I came through to support her and was pleasantly surprised by the vibes. They have a pool table that is packed with people watching and calling next. The crowd was anywhere from 21-35 and is a great place to catch up with friends. They serve beer and wine and they're all reasonably priced. The bathroom isn't that nice but the character of the bar makes it worth it.

Yelp
Natural wine bar -yay. The live DJ they have on Thursdays is awesome - Paul T but the crowd is way too young for me - so good if you are a 20 something or want to pretend you still are. Also not sure what culture the owners are from but their fake altar behind the bar was kinda offensive.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place, great drinks, great people, went here 3 nights in a row!!

Yelp
Great divey vibe. Perfect for what this neighborhood needs for a local, simple spot for drinking, with good bartenders. Mike was great. But Dear Owners, please please please lower the prices. The cheapest glass of white wine is $16. I understand it's "natural wine", but for a place where you are going for the divey vibe, with no liquor and no beer on tap, the prices are exorbitant. It's also clear to me that with inflation you must charge more for your service, but this is way too much. I really want this dive to succeed, but what this neighborhood does not need is a place where I'm out the door for $68 for 3 glasses of wine. It just won't succeed at this price point in this space. I hope to come back and see the prices more reasonable. This being said, the beer prices are good for LA, $7 a pop and $6 for seltzers. Cans and bottles only though. If you want me coming back, you'll need something on draft, otherwise I can drink $7 modelo bottles on my couch.

Yelp
Don't fucking tell anyone about this place. It's the best bar on the westside. I don't really have anything more to say. They serve Homage Brewing cans and, I think local wines.

Yelp
Pretty cool little new dive bar. Went on a Friday night at like 10 PM and they had a really good DJ spinning all vinyl. Pool table. They currently only can sell beer and wine. The bartenders were really friendly and attentive. Many people were there and seemed happy to have something in the neighborhood like this.

Yelp
I grew up in Venice and was bummed out that the old school paisa bar la potranca is now El Chucho. The vibe and ambiance was good. I enjoyed my time hanging out drinking my favorite beer Pacifico.

Yelp
Cute little local bar. Very small but cute and friendly staff. They don't serve food, but the spot next door does amazing Korean bowls. They have a pool table, but I hope they are getting it cleaned up. It's in some rough shape. I loved my beer and look forward to trying some of their wines.

Yelp
Great staff, great vibes, and great drink options. The place to go if you're trying to meet cool people. Topher is the GOAT

Alexandra E S.

Yelp
$16 glasses of wine. 4 oz pours. I'd love to go back but between the prices and pours that haven't changed, we will go a little further down the street.

Yelp
I love this bar! Super chill vibes and great music. The bartender Steph helped me out and she was super nice. Super attentive and gave me good advice on the wine selection. Will be coming here again
