Comalito - Review - The Heights - Houston - The Infatuation

"Opening a taqueria inside a marketplace full of Mexican dry goods and produce could feel like putting a hat on a hat. But thankfully Comalito and Houston Farmers Market are both cool hats, so it works. The Mexico City-style taco spot serves a long list of suaderos, quesadillas, and crispy cheese-slathered tostadas dim sum-style in the back of the market. And the food tastes so good, it's worth doubling back through the market again to eat there again. Like most dim sum spots, ordering starts by numbering items on a double-sided menu and sliding it to the edge of the table for someone to grab. Then, after a brief wait, hot plates of arrachera and thin pineapple-laced pastor arrive almost immediately. Depending on what gets ordered and how much, fleets of little plates arrive with wonderful handmade tortillas filled with charred chicharron or bistek, or smothered in sauteed cheese and onions. Normally, grabbing tacos behind a market often means a barebones dining situation. But Comalito is big, flashy, and not inexpensive, and the lack of direction might make you not sure who to talk to or how to get started. When you want more (which you will) you can just grab more paper, flag someone down, and start the entire dance all over again." - Chelsea Thomas

Houston’s Underbelly Burger Will Open Its Second Outpost in Spring Branch Saturday | Eater Houston

"I note that Comalito, a taqueria inspired by Mexico City, officially launched Friday at the Houston Farmers Market as another recent opening from Underbelly Hospitality." - Brittany Britto Garley

New Taqueria Comalito Opens in the Houston Farmers Market Friday | Eater Houston

"This new taqueria from Underbelly Hospitality channels Mexico City street-style taquerias, emphasizing house-made masa and tortillas produced from corn imported from Central Mexico and processed via nixtamalization. Led by chefs Luis Robledo Richards and Atzin Santos, the menu features tacos, quesadillas, volcanes and parrilla dishes that use fresh tortillas and tostadas, as well as soups, crispy cheese costras stuffed with pork ribs, pastor, sirloin, skirt steak or marinated chicken, and vegetarian items like mushroom al pastor tacos and a cactus-and-purslane salad. Prices are generally $3–$7 for smaller items and $16–$18 for larger plates like alambres. Drinks are a focus too, with an in-house agave bar decorated with damajuanas offering aguas frescas, mojitos, Mexican beer and tequila- and mezcal-based cocktails. The spot replaces a previous Underbelly concept at the Houston Farmers Market, will officially open Friday with regular hours of 11 a.m.–8 p.m. daily, and plans to add breakfast (tacos, pastries, chilaquiles and coffee) and expand its tortilla production in the future." - Brittany Britto Garley

Cute spot hidden in Pasadena. We stopped by to get breakfast this weekend and like how well thought out everything is. Good music, good food, good service. Definitely plan to go back, to try more of their menu. I recommend the chilaquiles for breakfast.

Tried this out for 1st time. Will definitely be back for albondigas soup! It was so flavorful and perfectly seasoned. Also had the grilled beef platter for 2. Beautiful presentation and very tasty! Their sauce they bring out with chips. Fire roasted tomatillos...perfect heat and flavor. This was very affordable and delicious!

Went for breakfast. I had the chicharrones breakfast plate. Everything was delicious. The chicharrones were tender, the beans and potatoes were great, the eggs cooked perfectly and the corn tortillas were hot and tender. The place is small and has only 9 tables so it can get packed during rush time. The servers were helpful and attentive. I look forward to going back.

We went after seeing someone sharing that they had gone and enjoyed it. We thoroughly loved it. Dont be fooled by their salsa, it does have a spice! The chochinita tacos were outstanding. My son enjoyed his plate of carnitas. My bf said his gordita was 'pretty good' and a larger than average size.

This place is amazing, the horchata so delicious, that’s my favorite drink. The serving size for every meal that I have gotten there is huge. The food has such a delicious flavor, I love it. From the tacos with ham with the flour tortilla to the pollo empanizado to the asado de puerco, cant forget about the huge pancakes, omg everything is so delicious !!!!!!! I recommend people to go try this restaurant out, 10/10 !!!!!!!!!!

Service and food was fantastic. Everything was fresh and tons of flavor. Chips and salsa were homemade. The enchiladas is the picture were some of the BEST in Houston, I’ve had. This place really does deserve more love.

I am not from Pasadena , so I went online to find a place for breakfast. They had a lot of things to choose from. I had the Machado plate ALa Mexicana ( I did not order it that way , but with the language barrier , that is how I got it). I normally just don't care for the cooked tomatoes , but it was so good. Everything was fresh and hot , the potatoes were crisp outside , soft inside, and the refried beans were very good , not stiff , but not runny. I also got homemade flour tortillas, and they were very good and piping hot , just right to spread butter on. Next time I am in the area , I will come for breakfast and try something else . Small place service could have been a little quicker , but the food was excellent.
