"Juanita’s Cafe pretty much only makes Peruvian sandwiches, and they’re really good. Each one comes on a giant, flat roll that’s soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, and you also get your choice of regular fries, sweet potato fries, or salad. Most of the sandwiches involve large chunks of meat, like the Chicharon, which has crispy pork shoulder, sweet potato mash, and a spicy salsa. Come with your family or a big group, try some chicha morada (a sweet Peruvian purple corn drink), and sit outside on the patio when the weather is nice." - hannah albertine, bryan kim

Went here for Father's Day. Service was prompt to greet and sear us. The food to my parents was delicious. My dad got the surf and turf special, mother the salmon special, and myself the menu paella. Unfortunately I can't eat crab or lobster, and my parents were crossing utensils, so didn't get a bite of their food. My paella was great looks small but is heavy I could only eat half and took the rest home (looking forward to dinner). My one ding is I found the music a tad loud and found it hard to hear my parents at time. Otherwise a very diverse menu. They also had 2 pages of margaritas if you're into that. Reminder that it's street parking so plan accordingly for arrival times.

2/14/25 First time dining. Had dinner with friends it was packed. But that’s understandable because it was Valentine’s Day. Had a very good time, especially when the Mariachis started playing. The service, food, drinks, decor and ambiance were great. Our waiter Victor held it together because it was busy and he was wonderful. The only problem table setup should not interfere with people having to go to bathrooms.

Google
Food is exceptional. Service is superb. Ambiance is cultural. 6 dollar margs, 7.50 for some delicious wings, 7 day happy hour. It's safe to say that 'el coyote' is the best happy hour in the city. Jonathan was my bartender

One of my favorite spots in Jackson Heights since they opened (I live in the area). Had many delicious meals here and will update my review, as I find more photos.

I went here two weeks ago with a few friends. It was later in the night - we were the only customers in the establishment and definitely were the last to leave. I left my gift bag under the table , and called into the restaurant to get it the next day. When I got home , I noticed that my card had been opened and the contents were missing! Obviously, it was a member of staff who had stolen my gift!😡 Needless to say, we will not return to El Coyote , as the staff cannot be trusted! ***************************************** TO THE OWNER: I will absolutely not, take down my review! People need to be aware , that they must not leave anything behind , because, IT WILL be stolen. My bag was definitely not , given back in the same state as it was left. Fact : My card was opened and the contents were stolen. Check your cameras on Tuesday, March 4th - Wednesday, March 5th. You will find out exactly, which staff member has sticky fingers.

The service and food were great. The mariachis actually told us about this location and we were pleased with it. I recommend making reservation for evenings on weekends. Update 6/22/24 Noticed had a previous review 5 years ago. On this recent visit if find unpleasent when it comes to cleaniness. Restaurant unfortunately had bad odor on my visit in its dining room. I find it unpleasent to dine in a restaurant with bad odor so my update will be 4/5. Food was acceptable.

Google
Undoubtedly the best place to share with friends and family, the quality of service of the host to the excellent service of the bartender, Jonathan, friendly, charismatic, cheerful and attentive, joy and always with a smile on his face. Anyone would want to go back to this square. I think I would do it once or twice a week. The exquisite food. I don’t take long to arrive and the drinks uff!!! The best of the night, I took 3 old fashioned. 😎😎😎

Yelp
The service here is great as always and the food even better than last time. The guacamole prepared table side is a must -- so flavorful. And the steak fajitas are the best we've ever had. The peppers and onions get caramelized on the hot platter and the seasoning was just right. Also they are very generous with the amount of steak -- it's a good value.

Yelp
Christian, our server was very attentive at times. Though our food looked good and was plated very nicely, two friends and I became sick after eating the Paella and salmon for lunch. Contact was made with the restaurant a few days later about the situation and the manager on duty Geraldo was more defensive than courteous. With help I was able to leave my information and was contacted by the owner. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this restaurant. We are honest patrons and just want the owner and other patrons to know what occurred.

Yelp
This place gets a solid 5 stars and here's why: - they have happy hour on the weekends; food and drinks - they service was awesome; our server was super attentive - everything we ordered came super fast and were good portions - my virgin pina colada hit the spot - all the food was amazing; the quesadillas, the queso fundido, the flautas, the gordita, the taco, the chimichangas and the honey bbq wings - the space was huge and we got seated right away I would definitely come back! We had an amazing time with good food and drinks! You can't beat that.

Yanni K.

Yelp
The food across the table was delicious. The appetizers of steak nachos and ceviche were great! The meat for my fajitas were made to perfection. The plantains were perfect. Wife's Enchiladas were the best she ever had. The simple tacos were destroyed by my son. The shrimp fajitas were so flavorful. The deserts of fried ice cream, tres leche, and churros were just as good. The drinks the zombie and my margarita was perfect. The service was amazing. Provided recommendations and was personable. The vibe in the place was great. Good music and good people. Loved the decor. I'd go again and again.

Yadi C.

Yelp
Service was amazin. Food was good the portions of food is massive. Ambiance was nice spanish music.

Yelp
Good was so So good The chicken soup hit the spot on a very cold night in NYC. Paella was so good

Ashlyne T.

Yelp
Yessssssssssssssss this is the spot. Nice music playing, excellent, friendly service and when I tell you the food is amazing. Omg, it is delicious

Michelle C.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour with my family and it was such a good time. The service was great, servers were attentive and friendly. The happy hour appetizers were absolutely delicious. We ordered their Buffalo wings and cheese quesadilla. The Buffalo sauce was not too spicy which was great. Only downfall is they only had blue cheese, no ranch. Their drinks were absolutely delicious, I had their frozen passion fruit margaritas which were only $6 during happy hour.

Cecilia S.

Yelp
Very impressed with this place. Our server was very hospitable and attentive. The Sombreros Rellenos are a must try! Even the dressing on their house salad is not your typical vinaigrette. Cheese quesadilla with crunchy tortilla yet oozing with cheese and pico de gallo. I'll need to go back and try their desserts!

Angie M.

Yelp
We been coming for happy hour for years! We always get the best service, drinks and food... this is my group of friends and I best spots, right before going karaoke! All the waitresses/ waiters and Jhonny the bartender always take good care of us he's such a good hearted person

Alexander R.

Yelp
Friday nights at El Coyote is great! Band playing nice Latin music, and the drinks are great! Big beautiful drinks made with real natural ingredients. We went there for the music and drinks. The food had gotten some bad reviews and I can understand some of the complaints, however it wasn't that bad. The guacamole was excellent, and freshly made. The other food ordered by the group was acceptable, that being said, is it good enough? The venue is quite classic with nice wood panels and beautiful classic Mexican artwork adorning the walls. For a Friday night the place wasn't crowded which I'm sure had to do with the food. The service was excellent as the server took care of our every request including one of our most finicky friends. The place is big with lots of seating all in quaint spots throughout the restaurant. I would definitely go back especially for drinks and music.

Javone B.

Yelp
So I took my team of co-workers here for a team building experience on Cinco De Mayo and I'm so glad we found this place. The food was amazing, the servers took great care of us. They had plenty specials. We ordered the pitchers of margaritas instead of individual drinks. Very cost effective that way. Definitely would go back here.

Boloave E.

Yelp
wow bartender eating behind the bar no attention to the customer, all the time on the phone , no silverware on my food bad service on monday afternoon mmmm suck

Rosmery D.

Yelp
The food and the service were amazing. We went on a Saturday afternoon, the pace was empty when we got there, so we were served right away. We order ceviche and seafood soup, I forgot what it's called, but it tasted fresh. The seasoning wasn't over powering. It tasted delicious. I will definitely come back.

Christine H.

Yelp
Good friendly service Clean and nice decor I recommend this restaurant for drinks and the chips guacamole The spicy margarita was delicious and had pieces of fresh jalapeños The food needs more attention and better presentation. The entrees need more flavor, the rice and beans did not look appetizing neither did the salad. My vegetable chimichangas were just ok and they needed to be fried better. We ordered the chicken fingers and French fries for our son and he wasn't really into it. I would come back if they get a new chef/cook

Charo S.

Yelp
Excellent food. We haven't been there for years (pre- pandemic) the food still good. Definitely going back.

Anahi R.

Yelp
Service is the worst, not welcoming at all. It ruins the ability to enjoy a drink here.

Edgar A.

Yelp
I asked them to split the bill when I gave them two credit cards. They gave us the bill and both halves were charged to my card. Be careful, check your bill when they split it. They can be prone to make the most avoidable of mistakes.

Francis S.

Yelp

Rob P.

Yelp
Food and service and the margaritas were great. Our server was so nice. Nice ambiance. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Holy guacamole! I had walked, went and ate here today by myself for dinner on a warm Monday evening to try this place out for the first time and was super curious if it's going to be expensive to go and eat 'cause it looks like a fine dining Mexican restaurant. Anyways, I'd ordered and brought only the flautas and it was really good, delicious and a bit expensive to eat it that I asked to have it with steak as well. The service there was also really good, quick, fast and amazing! I didn't wait too long to get my order and be served! Finally, I hope that I will eat here again next time! :)

Briana P.

Yelp
1 star because -000 stars isnt an option. I ordered here once before and i decided to order here again yesterday for lunch. I ordered their lunch special chicken quesadillas and when i got my food the quesadillas were very tiny for $13. I went back and asked why are they so small for $13 and the gentleman in the front was like "thats the tortilla they use." I will not be ordering from this place again!! Huge rip off. For $13 I could have went to latino bites and got more for my buck for the same price. I was left hungry after eating those pathetic quesadillas. Please do better el coyote! Especially with customer service.

Maritza P.

Yelp
You can't order happy hour appetizers unless you purchase happy hour drinks so it's not cool for the non alcohol drinkers . I did purchase the drink and appetizers were good .

Mimi B.

Yelp
El Coyote is the best Mexican restaurant in Queens! I always order my favorite; chicken fajitas! The waiters are always sweet and attentive. My meal was delivered extra hot, the peppers and onions done to perfection and the chicken was deliciously spiced and tender. And then I got to wash it all down with an incredible frozen margarita! What a treat on a chilly autumn day!

Glenn V.

Yelp
Having always held a little torch for street food due in part to the grit of the initial experience -- the simplicity of the menu and the extra efforts employed for the short stay. But I'm not quite yet, no -- not at all actually -- I'm just not warming up to eating food in the street and, to be frank, it's future for me is not looking good. All I think about is a runaway car that splatters me all over Northern Blvd as I'm sipping my margherita as I'm sitting there watching the world go round. So I picked a spot where I could see on coming traffic clearly and then quickly ordered an extra shot of tequila to loosen me and as a just in case painkiller. I'm reading the menu and thinking just how dull I've become with my ordering prowess, remembering to a time not so long ago that I'd order a pigs butt quesadilla, if it was available. And now look what I've become, a three taco spendthrift with the culinary palate of a fourth grader. Yep, you guessed two out of three - steak and chicken and lastly, I went real wild with the carnitas and felt proud of my daring self for just a flash of a moment. I've come to know that El Coyote has multiple locations which takes a snippet of homecooking and traditional preparation thoughts off the top. This will only continue and increase as we in the USSA whirlpool into the chains clutches, chain restaurants that is -- were spiraling down folks. So with the chain snippet snipped off the score, we're down to two stars and maybe a smidgen less because the rice was crunchy and the beans were too watery and also resistant simple to jaw pressure. Saving the grade was the effort put in to create a well appointed outdoor dining space and mostly it was my server as she poured my water goblet full multiple times and always on time, presented me with a new fork upon fumbling mine to the floor. A professional that saved the grade.

Adriana T.

Yelp
Food is really good- Waiters/waitresses are always really pleasant The manager does carry on an actitud and he seems to not care if a customer is satisfied or not with service / Food.

M C.

Yelp
El Coyote is 1 of my favorite restaurant/bars in my neighborhood & I also enjoy the 1 in Forest Hills. Their prices are very reasonable . I'm unemployed at the moment so I have to be budget conscious when I want to treat myself to dinner. Aside from pricing their food is always delicious . I've been a regular customer for almost 10yrs if not more so I've tried just about everything! Since Covid I've missed their bar & happy hour menu!!! Looking forward to their return

Nick C.

Yelp
Food and service were excellent! We got the guacamole and sombreros rellenos to start. Both delicious. My group got the churrasco, paella, and steak/shrimp fajitas. The steaks we had were some of the best cuts of meat I've had. Huge portions too. Only thing I could improve were the frozen margarita flavors. I'd stick to classic here.

Isael P.

Yelp
One year dealing with the covid pandemic, I finally able to revisit El Coyote restaurant. First thing is a temperature check. Then plenty of seating either inside or out. Our server was very attentive and kept checking in with us. The food was good. Maybe one issue would be with the fajita combo (just 3 pieces of shrimp). Also make sure to ask for less peppers and onions as the main dish would be that. My parrillada was good. The hot plate continues to heat the food so make sure to move it off that or else the food will be over cooked. 3rd time coming here and it really doesn't fail. My company and myself had a goof dinner experience and will of course come back in the future.

Debra B.

Yelp
We use to love this restaurant! Had several large parties of 20 and more there. We were very disappointed the last few times we ate there. If we hear their food has improved we'll go back, but not until then. It's a great neighborhood location for drinks, but not for their food.

Yelp
Thanks, Mr Ravi J for Yelping about this upscale Mexican Restaurant in the Jackson Heights area. Bf and I stopped by for dinner. We got the following: 1) Freshly Made Guacamole - MUST GET! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4Fe6J1brxdVHdhFW1iKUlQ?select=4rsZMULiMC44D5_A3zT6LA 2) Paella El Coyote with Sweet Plantains - Good. Seafood was cooked perfectly. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4Fe6J1brxdVHdhFW1iKUlQ?select=7dJDLfsb_a9asyqxs3Jr2g 3) Coyote's Shrimp Fajita with Rice & Beans - Good. Bf and I felt the pepper were cut too chunky... which made the jumbo shrimps seem small in comparison. Otherwise, flavors are there. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4Fe6J1brxdVHdhFW1iKUlQ?select=RpJny21dkCnslvUlZlu4wA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4Fe6J1brxdVHdhFW1iKUlQ?select=X_31q1Z7p0UHBNK405mpzQ For drinks, we got: 1) Lime Boat Margarita - MUST GET! - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4Fe6J1brxdVHdhFW1iKUlQ?select=YRfrmXTcViaav9j1lnVTVA 2) Don Eduardo Blanco (Tequila) We were served with free chips & salsa. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4Fe6J1brxdVHdhFW1iKUlQ?select=YPvvrJKFRIZrWkx7YgerWw For dessert, we ordered the Chocolate Lava Cake & Ice Cream. YUM! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4Fe6J1brxdVHdhFW1iKUlQ?select=fQZQNqWLIfRgHhwgJKdZVg More Pictures - Part of the Dining Room http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4Fe6J1brxdVHdhFW1iKUlQ?select=CNxMZdMvlMzGtnZPKYF4sw http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4Fe6J1brxdVHdhFW1iKUlQ?select=Kohgtg_FL7lppl7-9J8VsA Overall, food was good. DEFINITELY get the Lime Boat Margarita & their Freshly Made Guacamole! Some specials: 1) Happy Hour - Mon through Fri from 4PM to 8PM 2) Mariachis - Thurs & Friday 8pm through midnight 3) Karaoke - Sat from 11pm through 3am

Vernalie P.

Yelp
Not a good visit. My frozen margarita was good but my friend's coconut margarita had to be sent back. I saw the waiter drop the tongs on floor, pick them up and use them to put coconut shavings on frozen drink. When he arrived at our table I just asked that he remake the drink because I saw he used dirty tongs. No fuss from him, he turned right around and asked bartender......she scooped off top of drink with a spoon and was going to proceed to add fresh coconut shavings. I walked over and told them, "if department of health were aware, you'd have a huge fine". No comment from staff. My friend and I just walked out. Be careful of sanitary conditions here. Staff either isn't informed on basic hygiene, or just doesn't care.

Jose M.

Yelp
Food is not even authentic Mexican food. Only good thing about this place is the live Mariachi band. If you're looking for good Mexican food, this place is not it. They had the audacity to include $40 gratuity to my total, not even worth the money in my opinion.

Serious T.

Yelp
No res req. We had a great time here. It started to rain and we weren't under the main awning. Luckily there was a 2nd umbrella. I enjoyed the sidewalk seating. The music & lights added to a festive vibe. Portions enough to take food home

Muggz P.

Yelp
When we came the first time here, the Mariachi band kept asking us what songs we wanted to listen to, never said they were charging per song! Long story short, he charged us an extra $50 on top of the regular bill just for songs. Which we've never seen before! He first tried to tell us that it was $80. Then after complaining he lowered it to $50 lol! The food and service wasn't all that either, but we paid it since they made a big deal and we honestly started to feel a bit embarrassed since other customers were seeing what was going on... so we figured it was the norm here ::shrugs:: A few months later- we decided to give El Coyote another try- lol needless to say when the Mariachi band came to the table we asked them to leave us alone... ahhh should've gone to the Taco truck. Authentic Mexican food? Not quite the case here. Our tortillas were super stale and our beans plate was scorching hot but the beans were cold. How?! We tried to speak to the manager but he was just as arrogant and our waiter. So we paid and left. We're done with El Coyote. On top of that, the Band wouldn't quit trying to persuade us to ask for a song lol

Kaitlin D.

Yelp
i enjoy coming here when I'm craving some tacos with a nice margarita. I've gone to many Mexican restaurants, and I have to say El Coyote is pretty good. If you come late on the weekends, it is pretty busy especially in the bar area. That's where the real party is. My favorite dish is her Tacos de chorizo, and their chorizo is off the hook. Their staff might not be as attentive, but there are always many of the busboys and waiters walking around that if you need something, they got you. Ambience is bright, themed and always with great choice of music. Check it out and tell me what you think.

Brenda H.

Yelp
Nicely decorated spot. Food was tasty for the most part, drinks tasty as well too bad for the service. The guy at the bar was nice however I ordered the cheese quesadilla and didn't like it. I wasn't aware that it would be packed with onions. When I informed the staff they told me they had to ask the manager Geraldo and he said I couldn't send it back or get it off my bill so I paid for food I didn't consume. I would've given a higher rating but this isn't the first instance where the same manager has made my experience much less than satisfactory. I hope this place reshapes management structure to reach its potential.

R.B. D.

Yelp
El Coyote is a wonderfully decorated high end Mexican eatery. Unfortunately, that is where the kudos end. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, yet it lacks the fresh bold flavor I'd expect in an authentic Mexican restaurant. The caliber of food is the same as a Chipotle which is not a good thing if you're positioning yourself as an authentic experience. The bar is usually packed due to the happy hour specials which is not extended to table service! The sign outside says half off drinks, it does not say "at bar only", so if you sit down for dinner, you're paying double which makes no sense at all. "humm, let's charge the customers who are spending more money, more money" ????? The service is fair depending on who you get as a server, but mostly the waiters have to go check with the manager for anything more than a simple substitution. If you ask them anything about the food, they'll be stumped. They also have a mariachi band which might sound great at first until you realize that you can no longer hear yourself think when they play. The prices are high for the quality of food and neighborhood so I'd say this was my last trip there. I'll focus my efforts on finding a four star spot.

Camille C.

Yelp
The happy hour here is so good... I had the flautas and they were delicious... My wife had the buffalo wings and she enjoyed them very much... The server was nice and the restaurant is very cute inside... I'll definitely be returning for happy hour and will definitely try the main menu!

Zack Y.

Yelp
Drinks quality has really declined -- previously great margaritas now taste like they use a cheap mixer. Taco salads remain strong, service remains mixed.

Christine C.

Yelp
Must try the Piña Colada in the Pineapple! It was perfection as well as the vibes at this place.. perfect for a casual date night

Two Girls ..and One Review ..

Yelp
First of all I must say Happy hour is amazing me and my partner have been going to El Coyote since the Forest hills one opened . We both were at Grand opening we know the owner he's an amazing guy .. And knows how to run his business especially his Drinks wow! Amazing but one thing I must say is the chicken wings are horrible they are dry and huge they look like turkeys wings ( Not Good ) I wouldn't recommend them..and I must say his wife or Ex wife is a huge crunch a Rude individual never smiles .But this place is definitely a place to go and eat and have drinks ...The owner and his Brother opened these Restaurants together and made it what it is today an amazing place to go and get twisted , eat and listen to music ..They also have one in Connecticut ...Orale way !!! To the Brothers !

Kathryn K.

Yelp
During teacher conference, only had 45 minutes with 8 of us, they made the magic happen. Maybe I loved it cause we put the pressure on but truth is the staff rocked it. They moved fast, soup and nachos were greatttt! I was told sangria was great, but I drove lol. Nachos were Mexican style and loved it. Lunch special, 10 bucks for meal and 1 sangria! Can't go wrong Highly recommend it! Go waiter! Coming back

Jeanette C.

Yelp
It's a nice local restaurant in Jackson Height. A neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Food is good. Reasonable. The inside decor isn't amazing but fair. I've been a few times and might be going back.

Cora T.

Yelp
El Coyote Restaurant you are absolutely amazing, I had a lovely experience here today. Loved the atmosphere, and style of the decor. Each and every single menu item that we purchased was very fresh and flavorful. The crew was very helpful and service is fantastic. Highly recommend El Coyote Restaurant if you're visiting the area.

Leticia N.

Yelp
Order the Mixiote dish .... horrible desition !!! Do not order !!! Food is spoiled they took it out of the bill but still they included 20% of gratuity. I know it's not the waiters fault but still the manager was aware not only 1 but two dishes were bad. The second error was the stake Ranchero; we ask mw they brought it rare. I'M MEXICAN and for sure I can tell you this is the worst food I'd tasted. I gave two stars because the waiter was nice and so the place but turned young manager and the food was horrible!!!

Terry C.

Yelp
As I sit here right now for nearly 20 mins before anyone came to me. Many waiters passing by and none of them acknowledge me. Totally unacceptable when there are so many employees walking around and the place is empty. Chips for the salsa and guacamole were stale and tasted just awful. The chicken quesadilla came out as just a slop on the plate with no proper presentation. EL COYOTE GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER

Chris R.

Yelp
Great food, great drinks, awesome atmosphere.. parking is a bit of a pain but overall no complaints

Megan D.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night (7pm) to have quick dinner with our friend... this is not the place you're looking to go to if you want a quick bite. It could have been our server, perhaps it was the kitchen, I'm not quite sure. Drinks were slow to come out, and our meal had us wondering if they were butchering the meat in the back and then preparing it for dinner. The steak was delicious but way over priced and it's a shame most meals are in such small portion sizes given the price. On the plus side, they had live music which was nice.
