The Chef Fueling Puerto Rico’s Renegade Kitchen | Eater

"An agroecological collective and nonprofit founded in 2010 that has evolved from a CSA to a food hub, a beloved restaurant and pop-up organizer, and—after Hurricane Maria—into a volunteer brigade and a regenerative agroecology organization. It is known for innovative plant-based fare served at restaurant locations and pop-ups, a public-facing organizer who led relief and farm-recovery efforts, and a quieter culinary lead who sources ingredients, cooks for brigades and benefit events, and translates the project’s food-sovereignty mission onto the plate. The group’s newly purchased farm property outside San Salvador (Caguas) is being developed with minimal solar power and rainwater catchment, and the nonprofit plans interconnected programs—community gardens, agroforestry and permaculture projects, a resource library for farm tools, seed production, and a future kitchen and communal housing—as it rebuilds infrastructure and support for Puerto Rican producers." - Keia Mastrianni

How Puerto Rico’s Food System Is Changing, Post-Hurricane Maria | Eater

"Founded by Tara Rodríguez Besosa as one of Puerto Rico’s first community-supported agriculture programs, this sustainability-minded project evolved from aggregating island produce for families and restaurants into a vegetarian café and retail hub housed in a converted garage and later a beachfront space. It sought to prove that a local, agroecological food system was possible—offering classes, workshops, and partnerships with community gardens—before Hurricane Maria flooded and heavily damaged the restaurant in September 2017, after which the partners put the operation on pause and the shuttered site suffered repeated break-ins. The organization pivoted from a fixed storefront to networked resilience work: its leaders helped launch a Resilience Fund to send brigades to farms across the island and staged pop-up dinners to reconnect producers with diners and revive the project’s mission of food sovereignty and community rebuilding." - Martha Bayne

A little hidden place offering amazing food. You walk past it and it might not look like much - BUT it is all you'd ever want! A great selection of healthy nutritious dishes - vegan/ vegetarian, great juices and drinks - my favourite was lemongrass water, and of course desserts (pumpkin pie was to die for as well as the ginger coconut custard! You can also buy some organic veggies and local products there. Highly recommended!

My wife and I found this gem today! I had the prickly pear with rice my wife had the vegan pancakes with mango syrup. I tried both dishes and was extremely satisfied with the great flavor, cost, and atmosphere. The ladies there spoke great English and were very helpful. The food was extremely clean and so fresh you could taste it clearly in the meals. I wish we had them closer to our home 😁 thank you Vero for the great experience!!

Great vegetarian fare in Puerto Rico? Are you kidding me? Absolutely fantastic restaurant with outdoor dining and hippie feel. Dishes are different every day. Can't recommend it enough!

Great, just great. Food straight out of Mimi Kirk. Not just vegi, but options of raw, and vegan. A real winner. No wonder they have all five stars. From the street it looks like a little hole in the wall, but once the food starts coming its all go. Can't wait to return. Scott

Service was insanely slow and unfriendly. Credit card machine didn't work. Food was good but there wasn't very much food at all for the cost. Great concept but won't be coming back. When I left a poor review on FB, their reply was "too bad". There was no apologies, no accepting responsibility, no acknowledgment that something there needs to change.

Fresh, inventive, delicious, and socially-conscious; one of the best culinary projects in the island, supporting local farmers. Give vegan a try. Even my "meat-only" mother loved it!

Great vegetarian/vegan restaurant with organic coop that is steps from the beach. Sustainable. Good vibes. Take $20 each for an all inclusive meal.
